the

are
here:
hi
I'm,
Heidi
Markel
with
Parks

Recreation,
and
you
have
tuned
in
to
the
weekly
report.
Today.
Harley
and
I
are
here
near
the
mayor's
Christmas
tree
by
the
ice
arena
in
Crown
Center
and
we're
dressed
in
our
holiday
finest
say:
hi
Harley
Harley

way.
B
B
Are
you
ready
to
tell
your
holiday
wishes
to
the
fairy
princess
since
1935
Kansas
City
children
have
been
telling
the
fairy
princess
exactly
what
they
want
for
Christmas
this
year
due
to
renovations
at
the
Kansas
City
Museum?
You
can
visit
the
fairy
princess
at
the
garment
district
museum,
but
you
must
make
an
appointment
go
to
Kansas
City
Museum
org
to
purchase
a
ticket.
B
B
B
People
often
only
think
of
Crown
Center
as
a
place
for
ice
skating,
but
did
you
know
you
can
also
ice
skate
at
the
line,
Creek
Community,
Center
and
Ice
Arena
and
in
fact
you
can
skate
with
Santa
on
December
the
15th
and
before
you
put
up
your
holiday
lights,
there's
still
time
to
rake
your
leaves
for
curbside
pickup.
The
second
round
of
collections
begins
on
November,
the
26th
in
the
central
zone.
Northland
pick
up
is
the
week
of
December
the
3rd
and
South
Zone
pick
up
begins,
December
10th.
B
Remember
you
may
leave
up
to
20
bags
or
bundles
of
leaves
and
brush
on
your
curb
on
your
regular
trash
pick-up
day.
The
city's
leaf
and
brush
drop
off
sites
are
also
now
open.
The
sites
are
located
at
1:1,
six60,

B
Please
don't
push
your
leaves
into
the
storm
sewers
that
can
clog
up
or
damaged
pipes
and
sometimes
causes
backups
into
basements.
On
your
block,
the
annual
Veterans
Court
graduation
was
held
at
Municipal
Court
this
week.
The
graduation
recognizes
participants
who
have
completed
the
year-long
substance,
abuse
and
mental
health
program
and
recognises
their
mentors.
C
Well,
the
veteran's
treatment
Court
program
in
Kansas
City
has
been
around
since
2009,
and
it's
really
important
because
many
of
our
veterans
have
been
suffering
from
PTSD
substance,
abuse,
other
mental
illnesses,
even
TBI
or
traumatic
brain
injuries,
and
we're
giving
the
veterans
an
opportunity
to
go
forward
with
their
lives.
Try
to
become
better
people,
try
to
get
them
housing
get
them
back
on
track
off
drugs,
get
them
the
treatment
that
they
need
and
to
become
productive
citizens
in
the
community.
B
The
city
is
hosting
a
series
of
public
meetings
to
gather
input
on
a
proposed
new
housing
policy.
The
new
policy
will
address
affordable
housing
redevelopment
and
other
long-term
housing
issues.

policy,
snowy
weather
can
be
very
pretty
but
before
you
take
your
dog
for
a
walk
or
put
them
outside
in
the
cold
there's
some
things
you
should
know:
here's
a
video
with
winter
pet
safety
tips
along
with
videos
from
other
city
departments.
Thank
you
for
watching
the
weekly
report.
D
Hi,
this
is
special
investigator
Aaron
Dawkins,
with
animal
health
and
Public
Safety
for
the
city
of
Kansas,
City,
Missouri
and
I'm
just
here,
because
I
want
to
offer
you
a
few
safety
tips
to
keep
your
animals
safe
during
the
winter
season.
If
your
animal
stays
outdoors,
we
would
recommend
having
a
properly
insulated
house
for
your
animals
outdoors.
If
the
temperature
gets
below
freezing,
if
it's
cold
enough
to
where
a
human
don't
want
to
be
outdoors
chances,
are
you
should
not
have
your
animal
outside?
In
that
weather?
We
care
about
the
safety
of
the
animals.
E
F
E
Last
day
for
drop-offs
will
be
Saturday,
December
15th
until
then
Kansas
City
residents
and
those
who
live
in
32.
Other
participating
communities
can
drop
off
paint
light
bulbs,
motor
oil
and
other
items
for
free
on
Thursdays,
Fridays
and
Saturdays.
Wednesdays
are
set
aside
for
loads
larger
than
600
pounds,
and
an
appointment
is
necessary
and.
F
E
G
H
Well,
now,
legend
has
it,
but
this
building
was
originally
the
stable
for
police
and
fire
department
horses
when
this
was
pretty
much
still
parkland
later
on.
It
just
became
a
facility
or
storage
facility
for
parks
and
recs,
a
couple
of
bad
fires,
let
the
facade
up
and
they
decided
just
to
contain
it
as
a
facility
storage
facility.
A
A
H
Casey
melting
pot
came
about
as
I
was
a
teacher,
I,
retired
and
I
was
looking
at
what
I
wanted
to
do.
I
have
always
been
involved
in
theater
and
acting
and
so
I
had
a
play.
I
had
written
years
ago
and
I
was
I
want
to
do
this
play
and
so
I,
basically
long
story
short
I
got
it
together.
We
needed
a
place
to
do
the
play,
so
we
rented
out
space
here
just
our
Broadway.
H
It
was
trying
to
think
of
something
that
was
inclusive
way
back
in
my
college
days
a
long
time
ago,
but
way
back
in
those
days.
I
remember
one
of
my
world
history
where
they
talked
about
this
concept
of
the
melting
pot
and
how,
basically
you
had
different
cultures,
different
stories
and
that's
stuck
with
me.
It's
always
stuck
with
me
and
I
thought.
This
is
about
telling
stories,
and
we
all
have
stories
to
tell
and
so
I
thought
what
better
phrase
would
there
be
for
something?
That's
that
inclusive
than
the
melting
pot
and.
G
H
I'm,
it's
probably
one
of
the
things
I'm
happiest
about
doing
it's
a
Christmas
story,
mm-hm
and
like
one
of
our
promos,
goes
now
really
another
Christmas
story.
Yes,
it's
a
it's
another
Christmas
story,
it's
still
about
the
season
and
what
the
season
means,
but
it's
also
about
okay,
what
we
don't
normally
see
or
what
we
don't
normally
take.
I
kind
of
you
know
from
this
perspective
of
being
located
here,
just
our
Broadway
we're
in
an
area
where
sometimes
there
there
can
be.
H
You
know
quite
a
few
people,
homeless,
people
or
people
just
in
transient
conditions,
and
it
was
one
evening
I
was
leaving
and
I
was
noticing
those
people
around,
and
they
were
you
know,
kind
of
struggling
to
keep
warm
and
things
like
that
and
I
think
it
was
in
December
and
then,
as
I
left
here,
I'm
driving
off
toward
the
plaza
and
I'm
saying
the
lights
and
all
the
people.
You
know
in
a
little
more
upbeat,
handling
their
season
and
I
thought
to
myself.
It's
Christmas
for
everyone,
but
what.
H
I
H
What
you
can
afford
to
do
and
the
commercialism
there's
no
right
or
wrong,
but
there
should
be
some
recognition
of
both
and
so
I
thought.
I'd
give
a
little
look
at.
Maybe
the
people
who
are
a
little
less
visible.
You
know
during
the
season,
because
a
gift
is
a
gift,
no
price
tag
needed.
Sometimes
it's
just
a
handshake
sharing.
H
H
G
H
Website
it's
a
KC
melting
pot
comm,
and
if
you
go
there,
they
got
all
the
buttons
and
things
you
can
push
to
find
out
about.
Upcoming
shows
past
shells
purchase
tickets
becoming
involved
in
theater
volunteering
the
whole.
You
know
everything
you
could
think
of
so
the
best
place
to
go
would
be
KC
melting
pot
comm
and
you
know
from
there
you
can
take
it
where
we
want
to
take
it
great.
H
J
K
It's
hard
to
believe
that
in
just
a
few
short
days,
this
area
of
Crown
Center
will
be
transformed
into
a
magical
winter
wonderland
for
families
to
enjoy
this
holiday
season
featured
at
the
center
of
the
Crown.
Center
Square
will
be
a
magnificent
100-foot
Christmas
tree,
and
this
has
been
a
Kansas
City
tradition
since
1973
this.
I
K
Late
October
Lumberjacks
cut
down
the
tree
where
it
is
then
loaded
onto
a
custom-built
trailer
to
make
the
2,000
mile
trip
through
six
states
to
arrive
here
in
Kansas
City
after
the
holidays.
A
local
lumberyard
helps
us
recycle
the
tree
and
turn
that
tree
into
beautiful
Christmas
ornaments.
For
you
to
display
on
your
tree
every
year
we.
I
K
I
Was
such
an
honor
to
design
the
mayor's
Christmas
tree
ornament
this
year?
I
have
always
wanted
to
do
a
design
inspired
around
Kansas
City
and
my
kids
love
for
trains,
something
that
was
kind
of
timeless
and
cute,
and
we
wanted
to
have
that
smoke
coming
out
of
the
smokestack.
Give
it
a
little
bit
more
emotion
and
excitement.
I
couldn't
tell
my
kids
what
I
was
doing
every
day,
but
they
would
ask
me:
what
are
you
working
on
it?
I
K
I
K
Ornaments
that
were
created
from
last
year's
Christmas
tree
will
go
on
sale
exclusively
at
Crown
Center,
beginning
the
day
after
Thanksgiving
and,
what's
even
more
exciting
is
Matt.
Johnson
himself
will
be
here
at
Crown,
Center
signing
those
ornaments
on
November
28th
between
noon
and
2:00
o'clock.
Looking.
