Everyone
I'm
chris
herren
with
animal
health
and
public
safety,
and
this
is
the
weekly
report
I'm
standing
here
today
in
front
of
the
new
headquarters
for
animal
health
and
public
safety
and
what
will
be
the
new
Kansas
City
animal
shelter.
For
the
first
time,
Kansas
City
will
have
a
shelter
designed
specifically
to
take
care
of
all
of
our
domestic
animals.
It
will
also
be
the
first
time
animal
control
officers
will
be
in
the
same
building
as
the
shelter.
This
go.
Kacy
project
will
be
completed
later
this
year.
B
Memorial
Day
is
the
unofficial
kickoff
to
summer
in
recognition
of
the
Memorial
Day
holiday
on
Monday,
May,
27th
city
hall
and
other
city
offices
will
be
closed.
Curbside
trash
and
recycling
pickup
will
also
be
delayed.
One
day
that
week,
for
example,
residents
who
usually
have
Monday
collections
will
receive
the
service
on
Tuesday
and
residents,
who
usually
have
Friday
collection,
will
receive
it
on
Saturday.
The
summertime
curfew
also
begins
Friday
May
24th
and
runs
through
the
end
of
September
for
minors,
15
and
younger.
The
curfew
is
set
at
10:00
p.m.
from
minors,
ages,
16
and
17.
B
C
E
This
has
been
a
great
partnership,
and
many
of
the
partners
who
have
been
mentioned
earlier
are
certainly
to
be
thanked.
Like
kcata
and
also
the
Kansas
City
streetcar
Authority
together,
we
are
helping
shape
a
multimodal
transportation
system
that
will
work
for
everyone
in
our
city.
So
whether
it
is
you
know,
supporting
and
getting
around
by
scooters
if
it's
bike,
if
it's
foot,
if
it's
car,
if
a
streetcar,
we
are
changing.
What
transportation
looks
like
here
in
our
city,
bird.
F
G
I
want
to
just
take
one
quick,
second
to
thank
city
staff
and
electeds
for
working
on
great
infrastructure
projects
like
these
new
bike
lanes
that
were
on
here.
Without
these
types
of
projects,
things
like
scooters
and
electric
bikes
are
going
to
have
a
lot
a
lot
harder
time,
interacting
with
the
rest
of
traffic
around
us.
So
it's
tremendously
helpful
for
the
entire
city,
no
matter
what
mode
of
transportation
you
choose.
G
B
My
dog
Prince
loves
to
play
in
the
water
while
I'm
out
fishing,
but
it's
important
that,
whenever
he's
outside
with
me
that
he's
protected
from
things
like
ticks
and
fleas
and
heart
worms,
you
can
get
preventive
from
your
veterinarian
in
a
topical
form
or
achoo.
That'll
keep
them
safe,
while
they're
outdoors
this
summer
and
remember
hot
dogs
are
for
picnics.
B
In
addition
to
your
age
infection,
municipal
court
held
their
annual
drug
court
graduation
this
year
in
cooperation
with
Kansas
City,
Parks
and
Recreation
drug
courts,
participants
can
now
purchase
memberships
to
Kansas
City
community
centers
at
a
discount
exercise
has
proven
to
enhance
the
participants
overall
wellness
now
check
out
this
video
about
the
municipal
drug
court
program.
Along
with
these
other
great
videos
for
the
weekly
report,
I'm
chris
herren
have
a
good
week.
H
It
is
national
recovery
month
and
Kansas.
City's
municipal
court
has
a
special
program
called
drug
court,
which
celebrated
by
recognizing
graduates
of
its
recent
program.
Now
the
court
has
also
received
a
1.9
million
dollar
grant
which
will
allow
it
to
expand
its
program,
which
provides
offenders
treatment
in
lieu
of
jail
time.
This.
I
J
Important
to
remember
is
that
when
these
people
are
coming
to
drug
court,
they
are
at
the
lowest
point
in
their
lives.
In
order
for
you
to
be
mandated
to
go
to
treatment,
that
means
you've,
probably
exhausted,
all
your
own
options.
It
means
it's
very
likely
you're
serving
jail
time.
It
means
you
probably
are
homeless.
If
you're
in
our
court
and
the
fact
that
people
come
out
of
that
scenario,
they
work
hard
instead
of
deciding
just
to
serve
their
time
for
six
months
or
a
year,
they
go
out,
they
get
treatment.

Go

report
here
on
Kansas
City's
East
Side,
look
at
the
beautifully
improved
22nd
Street
with
new
streets,
sidewalks
and
bike
lanes.
This
project
creates
a
better
transit
connection
between
hospital,
Hill,
the
Jazz
district
and
the
prospect
corridor
linking
people,
jobs
and
economic
development
opportunities
in
June
2018.
We
started
construction
on
the
city's
new
animal
shelter
in
Swope
Park
at
Gregory
and
Elmwood.
H
P
H
Two
also
ramped
up
the
new
sidewalk
repair
program.
Workers
poured
almost
one
hundred
sixteen
thousand
square
feet
of
new
sidewalks
smoothing
the
way
in
neighborhoods
across
the
city.
Look
for
these
signs
in
your
neighborhood
to
signal
upcoming
sidewalk
repairs
in
the
Northland
north
of
Trafficway.
Reconstruction
is
well
underway,
with
completion
scheduled
for
end
of
summer
2019
in
south
KC.
We
kicked
off
a
section
of
135th
Street
improvements
in
year,
one
and
finished
it
in
year,
two
winning
applause
from
the
community
in
March
2019.
H
Before
there
were
no
sidewalks
on
this
busy
street
now
there
are
sidewalks
curbs
and
better
lighting
for
residents
and
businesses
at
the
Kansas
City
Museum.
We
finished
the
first
phase
of
a
multi-year
renovation
project.
Eight
million
dollars
in
go
KC
funds,
help
complete
significant
renovations
to
Corinthian
Hall
on
Beacon
Hill.
We
completed
three
million
dollars
in
improvements
as
East
Side
Economic
Development
continues
to
increase
a
splashy
project
restored
the
Delbert
haff
fountain
near
swell
Park.
It
features
a
new
basin
pipes,
renewable
energy
transformer
and
a
DA
access.
Q
Stone-Lined
puppets
is
a
Kansas
City
fixture
that
has
educated
and
entertained
audiences
in
Kansas
City
and
around
the
world.
They're
illuminated
waters
festival
happens
over
Memorial
Day
weekend
and
it's
supported
by
the
neighborhood
Tourist
Development
Fund.
Today
we
are
at
the
home
of
stone
lion
puppets
in
their
studios
and
in
their
offices
with
artistic
director
and
founder
Heather
Lowenstein
Heather.
Thank
you
so
much
for
having
us
here
and
giving
us
a
sneak
peek
of
what's
going
on
behind
the
scenes
of.
R
R
A
Q
L
R
It
really
got
off
with
stone
lion
when
we
were
performing
for
the
zoo,
so
back
in
1994.
We
actually
had
a
stage
at
the
zoo,
and
that
was
our
first
environmental
puppet
show
the
Eco
world
tour
and
we
performed
there
and
at
a
lot
of
other
zoos
and
I
mean
we
were
doing
like
300
shows
a
year
at
the
zoo
and
from
that
it
expanded
to
where
we
were
able
to
take
it
into
the
schools
into
festivals
fairs
and
work
all
around
the
world.
R
I
have
been
asked
for
several
years
now.
This
is
our
fifth
year
by
the
US
State
Department
and
the
US
embassies
to
go
overseas
and
actually
train
teachers
to
use
art
to
teach
about
climate
sustainability.
I've
been
working
with
universities
and
other
school
districts
in
Ukraine,
Fiji,
Cambodia,
Laos
Vietnam,
and
this
year
we
are
doing
a
project,
that's
multi
years,
long
with
for
the
sea
productions
and
national
geographic
Israel,
where
we
are
going
to
start
hashtag
plastic,
free
red
sea,
I'm,
doing
underwater
scuba,
diving
puppets.
R
Oh
my
goodness,
yep
I'm
diving
into
the
Red
Sea,
whether
underwater
puppets
and
it's
going
to
be
filmed
as
they
live.
Not
is
the
local
Kansas
City
filmmaker
who's
living
here
now
that
is
going
to
be
turning
that
into
an
whole
PSA
program.
The
municipality
of
a
lot
is
banning
plastic
on
the
beaches,
and
this
is
the
campaign
to
that
off
and
then
we're
spreading
around
the
world
with
this
project,
and
it
starts
filming
in
June.
So
yep
I
make
an
underwater
scuba
diving
puppets
right
now.
Do
oh,
my
gosh!
Well.
Q
R
So
this
can't
be
put
on
put
on
without
the
community.
It's
the
largest
free
community
art
events
in
the
area,
so
you
can
be
in
the
show,
mm-hmm
kids
from
the
age
2
and
up
can
be
in
the
show
and
they
get
their
own
starfish
puppet
to
keep.
And
it's
only
one
rehearsal.
You
can
volunteer
to
be
an
adult
with
us
in
the
show
or
in
the
glow,
manipulating
and
helping
backstage
or
you
can
come
to
Open
Studios
on
Sunday
afternoons
here
at
Stone
lion
and
actually
help
us
build
puppets.
Wow
and.
R
No
one
who's
ever
turned
away.
We
will
find
a
spot
for
you
that
you
shine
in
and
have
a
lot
of
fun
and
help
pay
it
forward
and
that's
what
this
is
all
about
is
showing
that
each
of
us
can
make
a
difference.
We
just
have
to
step
up
and
try
whether
it's
making
the
world
a
better
place,
creating
art
or
being
a
better
place
for
our
community.
You
know-
and
we
couldn't
do
that
without
our
sponsors,
like
Kansas
KC,
water
services
and
the
ND
DF
fund,
our
partnership
with
Kansas,
City,
Parks
and
Rec.
