the

cover
us
cataloging
special
interest
group.
I
had
one
thing
that
I
wanted
to
bring
to
the
group
to
see
if
anybody
else
has
noticed.
I
have
started
printing
spine
labels
and
barcodes
from
koha,
and
when
I
open
an
item
record
and
edit
items
and
I
select
print,
I
can
then
go
to
my
batch
print,
a
spine
label
and
it's
beautiful
print,
a
barcode
and
it's
beautiful
and
the
barcode
has
our
library
name
on
it
and
it
looks
all
spiffy.

so
far,
I'm

have
a.
I
have
a
lot
of
blank
label
stock
and
I'm
using
ancient
zebra
tlp,
two
eight
four,
four
printers,
these
little
tiny
things,
but
they're
just
little
workhorses,
and
so
I
figure
I'm
gonna,
use
that
as
long
as
I
still
have
the
blank
stock
and
then
maybe
as
I
get
to
the
end
of
that
investigate
things.

like
you
add
that
in
on
the
layout,
rather
than
that,
so
there's
like
four
different
things
you
do
in
the
label
maker
and
the
layout
is
where
the
name
gets
added.
So
it
could
be
that
when
you're
selecting
the
layout
it
totally
up
isn't
picking

up,
and
maybe
that
is
a
bug
with
the
print
range
we
don't.

it.

tool

noticed
in
our
elastic
search
configuration
that
the
246
variant
titles
were
not
appearing
in
all
the
indexes
that
we
wanted,
so
we
made
sure
that
they
were
appearing
in
things
like
a
title
phrase,
search
that
sort
of
thing.
So
I
would.

would
recommend
that
people
who
are
on
elasticsearch
take
a
look
at
your
settings
for
where
the
246
appears,
because
the
246
is
kind
of
new
in
in
olden
days,
variant.
Titles
used
to
be
more
often
than
a
740,
so
but
246
appeared
along
the
way.

may
know
way
more
about
this
than
I
do,
but
we
have
to
to
enhance
the
searching
of
our
child
records.
We
put
an
item
record
with
no
barcode
on
them.
That
says
something
with
the
call
number.
It
says
something
like
magazine
article

there's
no
barcode,
but
there
is
a
location
and
a
holding
library,
so
the
limiting
works.

bunch

really
nice

a
feeling

you
registered

hybrid.

us

can't
travel
like
me
are
still
gonna,

able

attend

participate.

lot
of
libraries.
It
doesn't
really
matter
our
library.
It
matters
a
great
deal
because
we're
extremely
specialized
we're
a
a
maritime
history
museum.
So
our
users
come
in
and
oftentimes
they're
things
like
historic
shipwringers
that
are
putting
in
very
specific
terms
and
if
they
don't
get
hits
on
that
they'll
be
like
oh
well,
there's
nothing,
I'm
not
surprised,
but
in
a
public
library
you
know.

you're
starting
to
get
users
who
probably
are
going
to
start
using
subject
terms
and
want
to
come
across
subject
terms
and
a
great
example
is
the
recent
discussion
of
you
know:
people
are
doing
research
and
they
put
in
undocumented
and
they're,
not
finding
anything
and
the
library
of
congress
heading
was
illegal
aliens
and
they're
like
what
so.
There
are
various
ways
to
do:
authority
control
and
I
always
think
of
authority
control
as
a
spectrum.
A
There's
on
one
end
is
absolute:
perfect
authority
control.
You
have
an
authority
record
for
every
single,
controlled
heading,
every
name,
every
place,
every
subject,
heading
and
all
of
the
headings.
In
your
cohort
record,
your
co-bibliographic
records
that
should
be
linked
are
linked
and
it's
it's
glistening
and
it's
shiny
and
it's
perfect,
and
that
does
not
exist.
That's
like
a
platonic
ideal
and
then
at
the
other
end
of
the
spectrum
is
utterly
no
authority
control
at
all.
But,
as
I
said
for
a
lot
of
libraries,
it's
fine.

So
if
you
have
money,
but
no
staff,
I
mean
who's
in
that
position,
but
some
people
are,
you
can
send
your
database
to
a
vendor
and
they
will
run
the
database
against
a
database
of
authority
records,
correct
things,
match
them
up
and
return
your
database
with
corrected
records
and
the
authority
records
matching
them
and
then
the
records
that
they
couldn't
match
that
need
some.
You
know,
intervention
and
and
you're
in
a
really
great
place
to
then
look
at
those
records
that
didn't
match
that
are
probably
things
like
very
specialized
items
for
your
institution,
etc,
etc.

no
money,
but
a
lot
of
staff
time
and
that's
that's
my
setting.
We
have.
We
have
no
special
funds.
I
simply
you
know
worked
on
getting
some
reports
that
are
things
like
you
know.
I
can
I
concentrated
on
headings
that
I
knew
were
local
terms
that
were
old
and
not
helpful,
and
I
had
this
special
vocabulary
set
and
I
started
to
work
on
that.
I'm
working
through
those,
then
I
have
reports
of
headings
that
are
not
linked
to
authority
records.

at
those
subjects
first,
because
those
I
know
are
messiest
in
my
library
names,
I'm
not
so
worried
about,
because
people
our
researchers
tend
to
keyword,
search
on
the
names
anyway
et
cetera,
et
cetera.
So
I
always
say
it's
it's
it's
a
way
of
trying
to
figure
out
how
most
of
your
users
are
using
your
catalog,
and
for
this
I
talked
to
our
reference
staff
and
and
in
people
searching
and
just
did
a
lot
of
conversations
like.
How
are
you
searching?

Oh,
of
course,
and
and
we
are
here-
we
are
here
for
questions
we
are
here,
for
you
know
also,
and
we
have
the
email
list
too,
if
you'd
like
to
share
any.
You
know,
questions
thoughts,
progress,
there's
a
lot
of
really
helpful
reports
for
getting
at
things
and
getting
at
these
headings
on
the
report,
wiki
and
also
in
mana.

Do
authority
control
you
end
up
touching
all
of
the
illegal
alien
records,
every
single
one.
You
touch
all
the
vietnam
war
records
because
those
headings
are
huge
and
changed.
The
cookery
records
all
changed
a
few
years
ago.
If
you
have
authority
control,
you
change
the
authority
record
and
it
flips
all
of
the
attached
headings.
If
you
don't
have
authority,
control
you're
touching
every
record,
it
is
a
way
to
save
time
and
to
make
things
consistent.
You
touch
one
thing:
it
affects
the
entire
chain.

overlay

match
on
the
zero
one
zero
field
in
the
authority
record
and
for
for
my
bib
records
that
are
linked
to

authority
record

changes

overlays

All
the
linked
headings
are
updated

to
do
it

in
a
batch
and
mark
edit.

I've
heard
somewhere
that
that
doesn't
work.

still
researching

used
mark
added
an
exported
records,
a
chunk
of
records
and
then
sorted
by
done
the
searches
on
the
fields
and
when
you
do
that,
you
can
see
immediately
if
the
indicators
match
and
then
you
can
go
back

it's

clunky
workaround,
but
it
works.
This
is
where
you
really
do
have
to
do
the
reports.
God
help
us

new
authority
for
the
same
thing
because
it
was
all
yeah,
so
we
merged
those
down,

there's
still
cleanup
to
do
but
like
being
able
to
bash
those-
and

think
you
probably
could

that
mark
edit

the

ends
or
the
nine,
but
it
does
seem
sort
of
dangerous,
so
something
else.
As
far
as
workflows
go,
you
can
hook
up
the
library
of
congress
subject
headings
via
z3950
and
overlay.

big
project,

have

research

it
keeps
getting
to
the

bottom
of
the
list
and
I'm
like
one

part

the
problem
also
is
we're
needing
language
subject
headings

lc
doesn't
prove

trade
catalog

trade
catalog
is
the
more
common
phrase,
of
course,
that
everyone's
using
at
least
in
in
my
library.
So
I
had.
I
had
two
authority
records.
I
had
a
150
commercial
catalogs
and
a
155
trade
catalogs
and
all
my
bids
with
commercial
catalogs
were
not
about
commercial
catalogs.
They
were
actual
trade
catalogs
and
there
were
lots
of
headings
linked.
So
I
used
the
merge
authority
tool
to
merge
the
commercial
catalog
record
and
the
trade
catalog
record,
but
my
650s
did
not
turn
into
655's.

I
don't
know
like
did.
I
do
something
wrong
something
like
that.
So
I'm
I'm
working
on
updating
those
commercial
catalogs
to
trade
catalogs,
and
I'm
going

look
for
another
instance
of
this
happening
and
keep
track
of
my
workflow
more
because
again,
maybe
I've
discovered
something
that
coha
doesn't
do
that
it
could
do
better
like
if
you
merge
different
types
of
authorities,
you
know
get
get
the
bibs
corrected
correctly.

we
have
a
couple
thousand
books.
Hardly
ever
used.
Most
of
us
have
us
online.

would
love
to
have
author
authority
control
in

authors
catalog,

upload
from
mark
edit
well
convert
from
medline
to
mark
with
a
mark
mark
edit
upload
it,
and
the
way
it
appears
in
the
medline
record
is
how
it
goes
into
the
catalog
and
it
could
be
rollin
fairbanks,

terry

fairbanks.

question

names
and
dead
names,

this
is

I'm
showing

ignorance.
If
someone
has
changed
their
name
that
gets
linked
to
their
dead
name
correct,
but

they
have
written
things

search

their
dead
name
for
that.
But
then,
if
they've
written
things
under
their
new
name,
you
search
for
the
new
name.

time

one
tends

different

multiple
authority
records
for
the
same
physical
being
is
a
physical,
being
who's
publishing
under
different
pseudonyms
and
then
you're
going
to
have
different
records
with

authors
and
non-fiction
authors
that
do
that,
but
it's
very
rare,
okay,
yeah

those
are
usually
pretty
well
documented

the
library

catalog

our

bib,
and
it's
great.
It's
really
great,
and
also
taking
advantage
of
the
feature
that,
if
I'm
cataloging
something
that
we've
that
my
institutions
put
up
on
youtube,
it
plays
right
in
the
player
on
coha.
