Well, we're not dressing up, but I think we'll blow your mind with all the info we throw at you about holds and the Transport Cost Matrix. We'll lay out the basics about how holds work in Koha, and some important settings you need to know about, and how to fine tune the system with the aid of the matrix to maximize the efficiency of the holds system. Sorry...we couldn't get Keanu. I guess you'll just have to settle for the satisfaction of knowing SO much more than your peers that DIDN'T watch this video.

thing

probably
ought

talk
about
is
holds
and
requests
in
koha
and
how
they
work,
because
how
they
work
has
a
there
I
think,
there's
some
misconceptions
over
what
the
transportation
cost
Matrix
does
and
I
think
there's
some
misconcept
conceptions
from
people
about
how
the
holds
the
whole
holds.
Process
works,
so
in
koha,
when
a
patron
places
a
request
or
when
a
staff.

do
with
the
reserves
function,
circulation,
functions,
it's
just
a
a
table
called
reserves
and
I.
Think
it's
because
where
they,
when
koha
was
created,
you

New
Zealand.
They
might
call
requests
and
hold
something
else

reserves.
So
you
place
a
request
and
the
information
gets
put
in

hours

of
those
items
from
that
report
might
start
showing
up
on
holds
Q
reports
at
other
libraries
because
of
the
way
we've
got
our
system
set
up
to
run.
So
if
we
ran
it,
every
15
minutes
there's
a
chance
that
you
know
every
time.

Recently
I
think
it
started
in
2205,
but
they
did
create
a
new
way
that
the
the
holds
list
is
generated
because
in
the
past,
if
you
would
run
the
holds
list,
while
it
is
rebuilding
you
might
not
get
an
entire
list.
You
might
get
a
partial
list
and
now
now
there's
an
option
to
turn
on
that
will
allow
you
to
see
a
live
version
and
it
will
only
update
the
list.
It
won't
necessarily
clear
it
off
and
rebuild
it.

How
holds
Q
the
holds
Q
report
Cron
job
decides,
which
holds
from
reserves
it's
going
to
move,
to
hold
fill
targets
and
which
items
it's
going
to
assign
that's
what
the
hold
secure
report.
That's
what
all
these
other
system,
preferences
and
other
other
things
you
can
set
up.
That's
kind
of
how
it's
defining
what
to
do,
though,
to
the
holds
Cube
Cron
job,
so
they
all
go
to
reserves
and
how
they
end
up
in
holds.
Fill
targets
depends
on
a
bunch
of
system
preferences
and
how
often
that
holds
fuel
targets
is
rebuilt.

depends
on
how
often
you
have
the
Cron
job
set
up
to
run.
So
one
of
the
things
that
affects
this
is
a
system
preference
there's,
actually
three
system
preferences,
but
I,
always
just
search
for
the
first
one,
which
is
static,
holds

weight

default
for
this.
When
you
open
up
koha
out
of
the
box,
the
default
is
zero
and
zero
in
a
blank
space
according
to
the
the
manual.

the
way
that
I've
used
our
system
in
the
past
is

libraries

there's

closed
for
the
summer,
I
take
it
out
of
that
list
and
things
will
stop
appearing

holds
queue
for
the
entire

that
they're
closed

summer.

tell

based

a
library's
calendar,
if
you
tell
it
to
only
fill
holds
when
the
library
is
open
to
only
rebuild

queue

not

to

to
take

I
only
have
it
set
to

our
system
is
in
random
order.

priority

have
patrons

your
library

requesting
item

they
get
priority
over
other
requests,

regardless
of
the
order

requests

prioritize

live,

requests
from
your
library,
above
all
others,

has
been
a
really
good
feature.
We've
had
a
lot
of
great
feedback.
You

when
that

feature
came
out,
and
then
we've
made
some
improvements
to
that.

out
for
our
library
in
general,
we
had
items
that
none
of
our
other
libraries
had
and
we
wanted
to
share
the
wealth
with
that
particular
collection.
That
was
our
hot
spots,
and
so
we
had.
We
had
actually
helped
fund
an
enhancement
on
that
to
where
you
can
exclude
certain
items
from
that
local
holds
priority
so
that
it
will
get
distributed
throughout
the
the
libraries
so.

always

It's
a
three-part
system,
preference
I,
always
just
look
for
local
holds
priority,
but
the
first
part
is
give

don't
give,

we
have
ours
set
to
give
priority
fulfilling
holds
to
the
patron
whose
pickup
Library
matches
the
items
home
library
is
the
way
we
have
it
set
up.

when
we
got
into
koha
back
in
2012,
we
were
running
into
problems
where
we
we
had
a
hot,
a
top
heavy
Demand
on
certain
branches
in
our
Consortium,
because
it
was
always
hitting
the
the
library
that
was
at

top
of
our
list.
You
know
we
had
that
out
of
the
box
setting
with
the
with
the
weights,
and
so
it
was.

You
know
the
more
it's
it's
it's
costing
you
in
time
to
shuffle
those
things
around,
but
it's
also
costing
the
patron
time
because
you
know
it
may
be
randomly
picking
a
library
that
is
probably
the
furthest
away.
That
happens
to
fill
that
request.
Where
you

there
was
another
choice
that
that
was
a
lot
closer.
That
made
more
sense.
So
the
randomization,
you
know,
helped
the
problem,
but
it
didn't.
It
wasn't
a
perfect
solution.

when
I
was
at
my
previous
Library,
we
did
the
exact
same
problem.
As
an
item
would
be
requested
by
the
somebody
at
the
boville.
Idaho
library
would
place
a
request
and
it
might
be
at
another
library
in
that
Library
District
in
that
county
library,
or
it
might
be
at
a
library
that
was
in
one
of
the
bigger
cities.
But
invariably
it
would
be
the
library
that
was
furthest
away
and
had
the
most
number
of
couriers
to
move
through
in
order
to
get
to
from
point
A
to
point.

By
the
way
before
we
talk
about
that,
I
just
wanted
to
mention
one
aspect
that
we
didn't
talk
about,
and
that
is
with
the
whole
system,
even
though
the
item
may
be
in
a
specific
library's
hold
cue
if
another.
If
another
item
for
that
fulfills
that
that
can
fulfill
that
request
triggers
you
know
somebody's
doing
a
local
use
scan
or
they
check
in
their
item,
it
can
fill
that
hold,
even
though
it
that
request
is
on
somebody
else's
cue.

what
I
think
a
lot
of
people
default
to
distance
is
one
way
to
look
at
it
for
the
for
the
time
that
I
set
this
up
for
Layton
County
Library
District.
What
I
did
is
I
sat
down
and

talked

our
couriers
and
I
said:

need
to
know
which
libraries
you
go
to
and
what
order
you
go
to
them
in
and
I
found
out.

the

was
a

loop
for
the
city
of
Lewiston
and
I
found
the
order
that
the
driver
went
in
through
the
city
of
Lewiston
every
day
he
started
at
Lewiston
public
library.
Then
he
would
go
to
the
all

the
public
schools
in
Lewiston
in
this
order,
and
then
he
would
go
over
to
Clarkston
Washington
and
go
to
the
public
library
there,
and
then
he
would
do
the
schools
in
Clarkston.

so
shipping
from
Lewiston
to
Lewiston.
High
School
was
a
10.
and
but
shipping
from
Lewiston
to
from
from
Lewiston
High
School
to
Camelot
Elementary.
That
was
something
that
was
going
to
go.
That

it
a

it

going

to

library
and
spend
the
night

went
had
already
by
the
time

got
to
