So, wouldn't it be nice if you could give them a well-deserved break? Well, some of us care about the school libraries. different
ways
that
you
can
close
a
library
if
you
have
a
system
where
you
have
certain
libraries
that
close
down
for
Seasons
like
we
do,
then
you'll
want
to
be
able
to
close
your
libraries,
and
you
can
do
that
in
different
ways,
depending
on
what
your
goals
are.
So
we'll
be
talking
about
that.
But
first
we're
going
to
talk
about

us.

first
thing
I
do
when
a
library
is
going
to
be
closed
and
the
most
common
for
me
here
in
at
Northeast
Kansas
library
system,
we
have
one
school
district
with
five
School
libraries,
it's
they
all
start
with
a
pH
in
their
codes.
Phx

so
it's
the
Axtell
School
Sabetha
Elementary,
Sabetha,
High,
School,
Sabetha,
middle
school
and
Wetmore
Academy,
and
so
the
first
thing
that
I
want
to
do
when
I
want
to
close
the
school
for
the
summer
is
I.

So
that's
the
first
thing:
I
do
the
second
thing:
I
do
is
also
a
system
administration
thing
I
go
in
and
there's
a
system
preference
called
OPAC
hidden
items
and
well.
I
should
change
this
because
Winchester
is
open
now,
but
there's
a
the
way
this
works
is
you
use
the
the
in
this
case
it's
home,
Branch,
colon
and
then
a
pair
of
brackets,
and
then
you
just
put
the
branch
code
in
there
of
the
branch
that
needs
to
be
closed.
So
if
I
was
closing.

the
Axel
school
for
the
summer,
I
would
put
home
Branch
THX
still
and
as
soon
as
I
save
that
none
of
the
Axel
items
will
show
up
in
the
search
results
in
the
OPAC.
So
that
prevent.
That
means

you

nobody
isn't.

holds

items
that
are
owned
by

taking
them
out
of
the
putting
them
into
pack.

items
means
their
items
won't
appear
in

The
issue
that
comes
up
when
we
close
the
school
for
the
summer,
the
biggest
issue
is
that
patrons
may
already
have
requests
placed
on
those
items
and
those
aren't
going
to
be
filled
until
the
school
reopens
in
August
and
the
way
that
I
deal
with
that
is
I
use.
The
the
news
features
in
koha
to
put
a
message
on
the
OPAC
saying
that
these
schools
are
closed
until
a
specific
date
and.

Right
one
of
the
issues
with
doing
that
that
I
found,
though
I
don't
like
to
do
that,
and
the
reason
I
don't
like
to
do.
That
is
because,
if
a
patron
that
has
the
school
district
as
their
home
Library
goes
into
the
catalog
and
places
a
request
and
they
forget
to
change
if,
if
the
pickup
location,
if
their
home
Library,
is
no
longer
a
valid
pickup
location,
the
default
pickup
location
for
that
Patron
becomes
whatever
library
is
at
the
top
of
the
list
alphabetically
for
that
location
for
that
Consortium.

values

the

and
then
I
put
the
branch
name
here
and
the
alternative

here
it
would
be

they
don't

staff

does
is
it
sets
the
whole
starts
on
date

alternative
date,
but
only
when
you
pick

closed
location.

the
date
that
I
use
the
value
of
that
date
was
3,

2023
because
they
reopened
on
313,
so
that
way
holds
would
start
flowing
to
them.
When
the
library
you
know
the
day,
the
library
reopened-
and
this
actually
worked
really
well
and
I-
think
I
might
do
it
for
the
school
district
this
year
for
the
for
the
request
placed
in
the
staff,
client
and
then
just
use,
my
alternative
branch
for
polls
placed
in
the
OPAC
right
but
it'll
be
a
different
way
of
doing
things.

Placing
the
requests
through
the
staff
client
during
the
summer
are
teachers
that
work
there
and
they
want
the
things
that
they're
requesting
to
come
straight
to
the
school.
So
it's
less
work
for
them,
so
they
can
get
those
things
and
be
ready.
You
know
for
the
first
week
of
school,
and
so
by
using
this
code,
which
will
instead
of
completely
shipping
those
libraries
to
a
different
place,
it'll
just
hold
those
requests
in
advance
until
school's,
ready
to
open
right.

rerouting
or
your
work

For
you
know
a
library
that
doesn't
have
a
pickup
location.
I
was
thinking

create

jQuery

isn't
in

pickup
list,
it
could
alter
that
drop
down
list
based
off
of
that,

report
that
finds
unfilled
requests
from
a
library,
and
so
it
tells
me
which
things
have
already
been
requested
at
the
date
of
closure
that
haven't
been
filled
yet
so
that
I
can
go
in
and
either
change
the
dates
or
suspend
those
so
that
the
things
that
are
requested
to
be
sent
to
that
Library
don't
get
sent
to
that
Library.
While
they're
closed
our
Courier
system.
Here
in
Kansas,
we've
got
a
robust
Courier
system,
a
Statewide
Courier
system,
and
so
when
things
get
sent
to
a
library
that's
closed.

You
know
what
could
happen
to
them.
So
those
are
the
steps
I
take
every
year
to
to
kind
of
deal
with
these
school
closures.
And-
and
you
know
we
do
have
from
time
to
time
closures
like
the
closure
of
Winchester,
where
they
had
a
pipe
break
because
it
got
cold
and
the
pipe
froze
and
the
pipe
broke
in
the
wall.
And
it
flooded
the
wall
and
flooded
the
carpet.
And
then
it
got
moldy
and
they
had
to
pull
up
the
carpet
and
take
out
a
part
of
the
wall
and
fix
everything.
So
things.

on
our
system,
I
I,
don't
I,
don't
do
the
same
approach.
I
I
do
a
similar
approach,
but
it's
basically
a
there's
a
three-step
process
to
what
we
do.
We
have
two
schools
in
our
system
and
they
usually
let
us
know
when
they're
getting
ready
to
close
and
when
they
want
to
close,
and
they
want
to
know
they.
They
want
books
returned
by
a
certain
date.

And
then
the
second
thing
that
we
do
is
we
set
the
whole
policy
so
that
there
are
no
holds
allowed.
So
that's
how
we
stopped
their
holds,
so
we
set
a
hard
due
date
and
then
you
know
so
we
set
the
hard
due
date
in
advance
and
then,
when
it
comes
time
to
to
close
the
library
turn
off
their
holds
and
we
turn
off
their
pickup
locations.
Much
like
you
showed
that's
pretty
much
all
there
is
to
that.

yeah
I
much
much
simpler
approach,
but
we
only
have
two
schools
and
it's
been
pretty
routine
year
after
year.
So
we've
been
doing
this
for
quite
a
while
I
have
in
the
past
prior
to
us
being
able
to
turn
on
and
off,
because
I
don't
think
we
had
the
ability
to
turn
off
the
pickup
locations
in
the
past.

as
it
is
existing

took
advantage
of
that,
but,
prior
to
that,
I
was
doing
something
similar
in
changing
pickup
locations
in
in
jQuery,
so
that
they
couldn't
choose
their
Library

basically
deactivated
it.

grayed
out
out
and
they
had
to.
They
had
to
go
and
choose
something
else.
So
yeah,
you
know
just
graying
it
out
kind
of
blocked
it
them
from
being
able
to
save
it.

would
tell
them
they
needed
to
pick
up
a
you
know:
choose
a
pickup
location,
so
it
stopped
them
in
their
tracks
and
they
had
to
go
and
visit.
You
know
they
had
to
do
something
it
wouldn't
default,
because
the
item
was
still
there,
so
I
didn't
take
it
out
of
there
completely
I,
just
disabled.
It
basically.

So
you
know

guess
you

in

it
depends
on.
You
know
how
you
want
to
approach
it.
You
know
the
pickup
location
is
easy
enough
to
just
turn
on
and
off.
But
yes,
it
does
leave
a
hole
in
a
lead,
leaves
possibility
of
mistakes
in
pickups.
If
you're
not
paying
attention
to
that,
and
you
know
you
can
address
that
by
doing
some
jQuery
to
automatically
reroute
them
to
a
more
suitable,
pickup
location,
or
maybe
you
could.

Maybe
you
know
if
you
notice
the
the
pickup
location
is
not
the
same
as
your
default
Library
you
might
have
it.
You
know,
show
something,
as
you
know,
closed
and
force
them
to
pick
their
own
location
rather
than
us,
forcing
a
pickup
location.
So
there
are
a
few
ways
that
you
could
approach
that
and
I'll
play
around
with
that
and
see
what
would.

big
difference,

One
thing
to
consider
would
be
the
complexity
of
your
Courier
system,
because
for
us,
if
something
goes
to
you

we
use
a
third
party
company
Statewide.

outside
vendor
to
manage
our
Courier
system
and
many
of
their
actual
couriers
are
our
contractors
or
subcontractors
to
them,
and
some
of
the
couriers
are
subcontractors
to
the
people
that
are
subcontracted
to
the
company
that
we
have
as
our
subcontractor.

So
you
know
the
complexity
of
The
Courier
system.
That's
one
of
the
issues
that
we
have
is,
if
something
you
know
goes
to
the
warehouse
and
it
could
possibly
pass
through
three
different
warehouses
to
get
from
point
A
to
point
B
in
our
system,
and
that
makes
you
know
sending
something
and
saying:
could
you
just
set?
Let
this
sit
in
the
warehouse
for
three
months?

I
will
say
that
I
also
put
out
a
a
news
event
for
the
staff.
They
know
that
those
you
know
we'll
announce
that
schools
are
closed,
so
in
general
staff
are
pretty
Savvy.
You
know
if
they
see
something's
being
routed
to
one
of
the
schools,
they'll
bring
it
up
to
the
Circ
manager
and
we'll
go
deal
with
it
right.
Rather,
you
know,
because
you
know
I,
don't
think
our
staff
would
stick
something
in
a
career
and
get
handed
off
to
a
career,
knowing
that
the
school
is
closed.

So
yeah
be
good
with
that,
especially
with
the
number
of
libraries
that
that
we
have
to
deal
with
yours,
I
understand
much
bigger
system.
Things
can
fall
through
the
cracks
so
yeah.
So
