The promise of hybrid multi-cloud applications has been something the industry has been touting for as long as we have had cloud computing. The reality though is sorely disappointing, with only a few super technical teams coming even close. This talk poses the challenge of identifying why it is so complex and what we can do about it. Attendees will see
– a view of why Multi-cloud deployments are interesting
– background on the challenges we are seeing across companies in going multi-cloud
– strategies to put in place to make it easier to get started

In this session recording, Rick Sherman summarizes his DevOps evolution from a high level. For most of Rick's software engineering career, his experience with DevOps was all about configuration management. But after many years of experience with some key mentors, he began to see DevOps as so much more.

You feel like you need to clone yourself to scale and maintain security — there simply aren’t enough hours in the year to do it all. Luckily, there’s an automation solution that allows you to get close to cloning how you would normally manage your full API delivery pipeline. Join Peggy Guyott, senior customer experience manager at Kong, and Ned Harris, solutions engineer at Kong, as they share ways you can eliminate the conflict between developers’ need for autonomy and freedom to innovate, and the need to maintain control of governance and security.
This session will leave you with tools you can use to further your influence in your organization by understanding how automation helps all the teams work together to delight your customers and be secure at the same time.

In this interactive demo, we will show how to encrypt and protect all services inside a service mesh using the Kuma Mutual TLS policy. We will then demonstrate how to control traffic permissions among each individual service using the TrafficPermission policy. In addition to security, Kuma provides traffic metrics using Prometheus and Grafana dashboards, as well as traffic tracing (APM) and traffic logging integrated into managed cloud logging and analytics services. In this example, we will be using Stackdriver on GCP.

As we grow our businesses, we transform our applications to become distributed and decoupled to iterate faster on customer feedback, adapt quicker to market transitions and improve reliability and availability.
In this new distributed and decoupled era, we introduce service connectivity at the backbone of our applications at an unprecedented scale, and we need to adopt a new kind of platform to abstract away service connectivity from the application teams so that the business can innovate with minimal fragmentation and maximum speed. We need a service connectivity platform that allows the organization to break down vertical silos like API management and service mesh for a fully integrated connectivity abstraction.
In this session, we will explore the market transitions that are defining this new distributed and decoupled era, and we will identify the main foundations for the new service connectivity platform category.

Building a tech stack in today’s world means constantly making decisions about whether to automate or abstract challenges, but the goals are always the same – simplicity, security and speed. As organizations embrace myriad technologies, such as Kubernetes, to abstract away DevOps challenges, they also increase the need for automation to help them manage increasingly complex processes across platforms. In this session, Kong’s VP of Product Reza Shafii will explore how organizations can use automation to reduce friction in adopting new platforms, eliminate repetitive, error-prone tasks and increase the overall effectiveness of their development teams.
