Description
SIG Instrumentation Bi-Weekly meeting, Apr 29th 2021
A
A
And
we've
got
caps
caps
kept
caps
announcement
release
schedule
is
out
for
those
of
you
who
don't
have
the
agenda
link
candy.
I
will
paste
it
in
the
chat,
so
it
really
schedules
out.
I
put
it
on
the
first
page
of
our
meeting
notes,
but
just
for
announcements
sake.
A
The
release
cycle
is
a
little
bit
changed
this
time
around,
because
we're
moving
to
a
15
release.
Sorry
15
week
release
cycle
this
year,
which
means
three
releases
and
we
are
going
to
move
enhancements
freeze
a
little
bit
earlier
and
so
we're
gonna
have
a
longer
time
to
write
code
yay,
so
enhancements
freeze
is
may
13th,
so
we'll
spend
a
little
bit
of
time
going
over
enhancements
today
and
code.
Freeze
is
thursday
july
8th
test.
A
Freeze
is
thursday
july
15th
and
target
releases
wednesday
august
4th,
so
we'll
have
about
eight
weeks
to
actually
write
code
for
this
release,
which
is
awesome.
Any
questions
about
the
release
schedule.
A
No
and
next
item
k-log
ownership.
A
I
think
I
put
it
on
the
agenda,
but
I
don't
know
if
I'm
the
right
person
to
talk
about
this.
I
will
summarize
very
briefly,
which
is
that
lumiere
filed
an
issue
against
k,
log
flagging
sig
instrumentation,
saying
that
it
was
initially
owned
by
sig
arch.
It
was
moved
over
to
sig
instrumentation,
but
the
owner's
files
in
k
log
do
not
reflect
the
sig
instrumentation
ownership,
which
I
don't
necessarily
agree
with,
because
dimms
is
a
member
of
sig
instrumentation
in
part
because
of
his
involvement
in
k
log.
A
B
Yeah
I
mean
I
would
imagine
during
the
structured
logging
thing,
that
the
working
group
would
own
it,
but
working
groups
are
temporary,
so
long
term.
I
guess
it
does
make
sense
for
us.
E
B
Yeah,
let's,
let's
do
that,
let's
update
the
thing
let's
put
in.
A
Oh
yeah,
we've
got
actually
it's
it's
a
very
fair
point,
because
there
are
some
very
outdated
approvers
on
k-log
like
some
folks
who
haven't
contributed
in
quite
a
while.
So
we
might
want
to
clean
that
up.
I
don't
know
that
we
necessarily
went
through
k
log
as
part
of
our
annual
report.
So
I
guess
that's
a
to
do
for
us
who
should
be
responsible
for
that.
B
A
F
C
A
B
A
A
A
But
I
will
okay
great
cool:
do
we
want
to
cover
anything
else
before
we
go
into
caps
because
they
always
take
up
a
lot
of
time.
A
A
Okay,
so
I
think
that
we
have
two
that
we
know
the
status
for
sure,
which
is
the
api
server
tracing
and
the
metric
cardinality
enforcement
or
sorry,
three
that
we
know
for
sure,
because
I
heard
from
clayton
today
we're
not
gonna
try
to
ga
this
in
122.,
so
that
one's
out
we've
got
a
bunch
of
question
marks.
A
A
Because,
typically,
you
don't
ga
immediately
after
you
go
to
beta
unless
it
was
like
a
bug,
fix
or
something
and
so
clayton
said,
he's
gotten
some
feedback.
He
wants
to
get
more
feedback
and
it's
too
soon
to
ga.
A
So
that's
no
problem,
so
yeah
we've
got,
we've
got
a
few
net
news
and
then
I
think,
while
working
through
blogging,
we'll
probably
be
coordinating
what
we're
doing
on
structured
logging.
I
think
we
still
are
supposed
to
own
the
cap
until,
like
you
know,
they're
fully
chartered
and
we
can
transfer
it
over
to
them.
So
maybe,
let's
talk
about
that
one
last.
Is
there
anybody
here
to
talk
about
this
custom,
metrics
router.
C
I
mean,
I
think,
someone
just
finally
took
a
lead
on
something
that
we
had
been
discussing,
I
think
up
to
three
years
ago.
Does
anybody
need
a
like
a
summary
of
this
or.
A
Oh
no,
no
so
so
let
me
tell
you
about
the
new
process,
because
every
release
there's
always
a
new
process.
Luckily,
this
releases
new
process
is
actually
probably
easier
than
last
releases
because
there
are
less
emails
involved.
There's
now
a
spreadsheet
that
we
put
all
of
our
hand
enhancements
in
and
in
fact
maybe
I
can
go
find
the
spreadsheet.
A
And
limited
people
have
the
ability
to
edit
this
document
and
the
only
tab
that
we
can
edit
is
this
one,
so,
basically
anything
that
we
want
to
work
on
this
release.
We
have
to
put
into
this
spreadsheet,
so
my
question
is:
which
of
these
things
should
I
put
into
the
spreadsheet.
C
Yeah,
I
was
just
gonna
say:
maybe
han
can
weigh
in
as
well.
I
don't
think
the
custom
metrics
router
needs
a
cap
as
such,
because
this
has
no
code
landing
in
kk.
A
They
just
might
be
confused
in
terms
of
the
the
problem.
Is
we
don't
really
have
I've
encountered
this
with
another
thing,
for
I
got
flagged
to
do
a
prr
review
for
cluster
life
cycle.
People
think
that,
like
anything,
that
needs
a
design
dock
has
to
go
through
the
cap
process.
But
if
it
doesn't
touch
anything
in
tree,
then
I
don't
think
that's
really
the
case.
So
if
that
one's
gonna
be
out
of
tree,
then
to
do,
I
guess
would
see
if
they
can
add
a
design
dock.
C
Yeah,
don't
get
me
wrong,
I
like
people
thinking
through
what
they're
about
to
do,
but
we
don't
need
to
make
them
who
like
jump
through
hoops
if
they
don't
need
to.
Why.
B
A
The
standard
place,
I
think,
just
for
you
know
searchability's
sake
like
so
before
we
had
caps
right.
Everything
went
into
the
community
repo,
so
I'd
suggest
we
put
it
there,
but
it
doesn't
have
to
go
there.
A
So,
okay,
so
then
no
doesn't
need
a
cat
because
out
of
tree
design,
dock
to
community
repo
or
question
mark
great
and
then
so
we're
definitely
gonna
beta
this
one.
I
can
add
this
one
to
the
spreadsheet.
C
There,
I
would
just
ask
han:
do
you
want
to
switch
each
other
around
here?
You,
you
do
the
approval
for
metric
cardinality
enforcement,
then
I
do
the
take
care
of
the
other
one.
G
Instrumentation
that
one
needs
docs
link.
I
don't
know
what
the
number
is
I'll
fill
it
in
later.
A
Not
doing
that
one,
I
will
skip
this
one
for
a
moment:
api
server
tracing.
I
know
we're
doing
right,
david
you're,
on
the
call
now
right.
F
Yeah,
sorry,
I
was
having
audio
problems
earlier,
but
yes,
I'm
there
and
I'm
adding
a
pr
to
enhancements
to
bump
the
version
of
the
cap.
A
Awesome
so
yeah
when
that's
up
I'll,
add
the
link,
and
then
I
think
so
you
you
were
gonna
reach
out
to
chelsea.
I
think
no
updates
on
this
one.
We're
not
doing
this
one.
This
release
is
that
accurate,
yeah.
A
E
Yes,
yes,
actually,
why
don't
we
do
this
like?
Although
we
don't
have
a
plan
for
moving
these
two
to
one
122.,
I
think
we
can
still
ask
chelsea
to
review
the
pr.
Maybe
you
can
add
me
on
the
pr
I
can
just
ping
chelsea
and
ask
her
to
take
a
first
pass.
A
Great,
I
can
definitely
do
that,
and
I
think
that
sounds
like
a
totally
reasonable
plan.
I
mean
you,
don't
have
to
have
a
cap
to
continue
working
on
things
that
have
already
been
accepted
and
we
just
need
a
plan
to
actually
get
it
graduated.
So
I
guess
that
leaves
us
with
this
cap,
which
I
think
is
a
stretch
and
what
we're
gonna
do
with
structured
blogging
for
this
release
david.
Have
there
been
any
updates
on
this
guy.
F
A
Should
I
optimistically
add
this
one
with
the
hope
that,
like
you
know,
there's
gonna
be
excuse
me
issues
that
will
need
to
be
resolved,
but
should
I
add
this
just
with
the
hope
that
it'll
be
yeah
looks
like
four
days
ago.
Should
I
add
this
one
with
the
hope
that
we'll
get
a
chance
to
approve
it
and
if
not,
it
just
slips.
G
A
G
A
The
prod
readiness
approver
am,
I
cool,
I'm
just
curious,
who
is
the
owner
there's
a
bunch
of
folks
who
have
been
working
on.
A
G
Let's
go
with
this.
G
A
A
D
Yeah,
so
the
working
group
was
approved
and
technically
established
yesterday,
so
yeah
we
at
this
point.
We
are
just
starting
organ,
like
we'll
start
to
organize
meetings
and
start
discussing
exactly
work.
So
I'm
working
on
the
road
map
and
one
of
the
things
would
be
pushing
the
cap
to
the
beta.
A
A
A
Oops-
and
I
don't
think
we
have
a
pr
for
that
one,
yet
that's
okay!
I
guess
I
can
double
check
the
list.
Maybe
we
have
something.
A
A
I
had
put
a
comment
on
here
asking
about
this
cap.
This
has
been
alpha
for
quite
a
while
and
it
looks
like
we're
probably
gonna
defer
working
on
it
again,
and
I
think
that
if
we
can't
get
resources
to
beta
this
soon,
we
should
probably
deprecate
it.
A
Yeah,
because
this
one,
like
the
stale
bot,
keeps
coming
in
and
putting
stale
labels
on
it-
and
it's
been,
I
think
it's
been
alpha
since
119.
So
it's
been,
this
will
be
like
the
third
full
release
cycle
where
we
haven't
had
somebody
to
bring
it
to
beta,
which
is
quite
a
lot
so.
A
Because,
technically
this
one's
owned
by
sig
security.
But
I
just
keep
getting
pinged
on
this
one,
and
I
think
that
we
should
be
responsible
about
having
things
that
are
kind
of
in
eternal
data.
A
A
Yeah,
unless
anybody
else
has
any
other
agenda
items
thanks
so.
H
So
if
we
to
like
do
a
small
summary
we're
looking
into
adding
open
telemetry
tracing
into
etcd,
and
if
that
doesn't
land
by
mid-may,
then
it
will
land
in
3
6
at
city
which
will
be
in
a
year
or
so.
So
I
think
that
if
there's
any
either
like,
if
anyone
wants
to
really
do
that,
maybe
we
can
join
forces
and
try
to
get
that
in
before
code
freezing
that
city.
C
H
That
in
the
next
etsy
meeting,
which
is
next
week,.
H
So
the
release
that
the
tracing
stuff
would
land
in
would
be
three
five.
The
current
one
is
three
four
and
that
there
is
code
freeze
for
that
mid-may
end
of
may,
with
the
release
being
cut
in
august
autumn
time,
we're
trying
to
work
on
getting
releases
more
frequently,
so
that
should
be
coming
up
soon,
hopefully,
but
yeah
it's
more
like
do.
Do
we
think
we
can
wait
as
kubernetes
for
another
year
or
so,
or
would
we
like
to
speed
things
up.
A
H
Yes,
that's
my
thinking
as
well
like
we
are
trying
to
work
on
issues
to
get
our
releases
out
like
that
city
releases
out
more
frequently
and
there's
a
bunch
of
open
issues
before
that
city
gets
to
there,
but
I
think
that
having
tracing
and
it
would
then
land
right
when
api
server
tracing
should
be
beta.
I
guess
so
that
would
align
nicely
with
the
three
five
release
as
it
takes
a
while
before
kubernetes
adopts
but
yeah.
H
If
anyone's
interested,
I
started
looking
into
the
adding
open,
telemetry
tracing
I'll,
try
to
keep
the
issue
updated,
so
yeah.
E
A
Do
it
that's
that's
kind
of
where
I'm
at
for
people
who
are
not
familiar
with
this
sort
of
delay
in
release
uptake
just
this
is
based
on
some
data
that
I've
seen.
I
think
there
were
surveys
that
showed
that
currently,
the
widest
used
release
of
kubernetes
is
116.,
so
we
are
releasing
122
and
the
biggest
version
is
116.,
which
is
quite
old.
A
A
It's
not
114
anymore
and
it's
not
1
8,
which
I
was
working
on
long
past
its
expiry
date,
so
yeah
anything
else,
thanks
so
much
lily
for
bringing
that
and
for
driving
that
I
think
that'll
be
really
great.
F
We
can
follow
up
offline.
I
want
to
make
sure
I
I
know
that
we
discussed
this
in
the
issue:
the
go
sdk
and
api
for
open
telemetry.
F
Yet
so
I
want
to
make
sure
that
we
don't
further
hinder
fcd's
ability
to
get
releases
out
because
there
are
breaking
changes
coming
down
the
pipe.
H
F
H
I
had
I
had
a
look
quickly
at
the
project
board
of
the
open,
telemetry
client
and
from
what
I
understand.
It's
nothing
that
would
affect,
but
I
will
double
check
before
opening
any
aprs
or
anything
like
that.
From
what
I
understand
for
people
on
twitter
of
all
places
said.
H
Yes,
yes,
yes,
it
does.
That
was
our
like.
That
was
the
discussion
I
had
with
sam
that
maybe
we
could
have
it
under
a
flag
and
not
enabled
by
default
at
all,
at
least
for
one
release
for
the
three
five.
If
we
managed
to
get
it
in
that
one
and
then
that
way,
we
know
that,
like
any
possible
resource
problems,
we
might
have
with
open
telemetry
or
things
like
that.
A
Awesome
anything
else
from
anyone.
A
I
have
one
thing
which
is:
kubecon
is
next
week,
so
yay
announcement
kubecon
is
next
week
and
I
believe
that
frederick
is
speaking
on
our
behalf.
Thank
you,
frederick.
Do
we
want
to
cancel
triage
next
week
because
of
kubecon.
