So, basically, just subscribe thing can be added to the header and we are good to go with that. uh Apart from that I like this section as well, about the service mesh patterns book. This one thing is since this page, like this website, is about service mesh patterns and less about what a service mesh is I.

Think this body thing like the content: it's not your fault, like the content thing, would be changed more about uh to talk more about what patterns are and how to use patterns, so that could be one update to the page, because this is why should you use any service mesh? It's not like it's sort of related to this, but we also want to focus on what patterns are and how to use service, mesh patterns and stuff like that. So maybe this content needs to be changed. This is also good chapters.

I think this is the same design that we are following, but uh subra had worked on, I think yeah.

One thing that I mentioned to him and I'll mention to you again is since this is a call out like layer, 5, Community discussion forum and all these chapters thing as well. All of them look like the same buttons right now like, since these are chapters. This is a drop down. This is a call out. There's no difference between the design for all of these like these are also like. The design is like a button.

If you uh want to stick with this design for the chapters, you can probably change the design for the uh drop down and for the call out you could use pictures since we don't have a lot of switches to the book right now like we only have this picture, you can use uh like a visually appealing call out for the discussion forum and something like we have on the layer, fibroid dioxide. You can be different like it would be good if you don't do the same thing.

If you come up with something even better, but something like this so that like people are compared to go, click on it uh Alexis, are you taking notes or should I like I, hope, you're taking notes because I'm not commenting on this exam.

Yeah, so uh my mentors since this site is about this is the body of the site right, so it could mention more about patterns and action or how to use patterns instead of what service measures are like I. Just think this is not appropriate as the content like uh I, think, like you can reach out on the website's Channel or in the blog question, Channel I think ibar already did that and we can discuss what content should go in there and based on that, this portion can be changed.

Like if possible, because pictures I'm not sure what pictures you'll find for the discussion forum, but like something apart from just a button like this part, is just button like there's no difference. So that is why I thought that it would look better if you do something different with this, and this.

Yeah, but one thing is I, think uh lee was mentioning on one of the calls that he wants the technical reviewers to be on the home page, but with this current design we can't just have that so I think we'll wait for him once to finalize what we should do about this section and then we can move, but otherwise the section looks good I think according to me, but we'll just yes, yeah, So, Okay cool, so I think this is ready, like since Kamal Kamal you're working on the about the service mesh uh part.

You can just add this component in and if you can just add the subscription thing as well and uh like this will be the uh same one that we use over here on the layers I see subscribe to our newsletter, the same link uh but following this design.

Yes, we wanted your uh suggestion on one thing like I said: I was thinking that the about the author's page like the component on this page is looking it's making the page a bit too long. But since you mentioned that we wanted the technical reviewers on the home page, do you suggest that we move this to a separate page? And is this what you wanted in terms of technical reviewers.

Yeah yeah, it's a shame about the length of the page or if it feels too long um that said having them on a separate page would be. His word is yeah. It's unfortunate. Are we just yeah? We can't do it, we gotta have them next to the authors, um or if we had a lot more things, we could potentially break them out.

Even then it's um yeah, we don't have a lot more things and it's best that they sit next to the authors, um yeah um like it or not, I designed the technical review by it very briefly, and it was to um try to, and we can certainly change it if you guys want to go ahead and it doesn't have to have that extra padding down below look I was in a big hurry.

um The I thought that it'd be nice. If we showed their face, gave them links to their social profiles, and their name is probably more certainly I mean. Actually the fact that there's that they would even be listed on the website is so much more than technical reviewers. You generally get and then get their picture up there and links to their stuff. Like that's, that's um quite a bit um and so yeah, if folks feel like changing it around, you know give it a give it a go. Otherwise this is okay and yeah.

It's kind of unfortunate about the length, but it's I don't have any better ideas. Oh wait! So um so yep we shouldn't it shouldn't be a single page site, though right it should be the same structure that we originally had. I I put down a lot of justification for why we should stay in the same yeah. Okay, so Alexis are you guys still working toward single page or single page site stuff.

Well, um we, as you have just said, we can always do multi-page. So from what you just said now that means we have to make it two pages wherever. If we are still sticking to one page, then we would have to reduce the negative space, but that now are on the for multiple page.

Okay, so I think looking at the current design, the this section is ready to be assigned like to be put down, as coded so any volunteers on the call to take up the meet the office section.

Before we do that, just to clarify yes, nice yeah, sorry to interrupt it just before we move forward with those assignments, I want to clarify the single site versus multi-site. There were some notes. I thought we'd cover this last time, but there's some notes in here about kind of justifications for why we designed a multi-page site um Alexis. Are you sharing? If so, can you find those that justification.

Anyway, Alexis I um thoughts as to why to consolidate or any.

So Alexis, what do you think, then, between single single page and multi-page? Any reasons for a single page.

I think we should still stick to single page, because that would reduce the bounce rate of our should I see our users or people who are visiting the site, because if we use more than one the probability of them moving to the next page and then having waiting having to wait for it, they would more often than not just abandon whatever it is. They were doing whether they wanted to read through the book or whatever. So we can just keep them good to this single page. That would be.

That would be great, so we can reduce the negative space and then just stick to the single page um plan that we have so I'm for single page.

Got you yeah yeah, the bounce rate, so that that's that seems like an un wait. So Alexis are you're not working in the layer, five design file? That's probably why I I, I, actually I, don't know why Evar created a separate design files.

Oh okay, then I, don't know why you did I suggest you consolidate, because it makes it difficult for people to collaborate like to give you feedback if you're asking for feedback last week and you didn't get any, maybe it's because people have a hard enough time getting to the design file that is shared by the community, much less one that you've forked and created somewhere else and that there are links to necessarily so if you can consolidate your work into the same design file just mark it under draft.

If you see the, um let me let me share for a moment um so Alexis in the in each of the there's three design files inside the community. One is for how to layer five, which has a bunch of different sites, um one's called measure UI, which has Mastery and mesh map, and another one is for Nighthawk um in each of them. We should find at the top of the page, there's these contributing instructions as to how it is we're going to facilitate collaboration within figma figma.

Does this amazing thing of facilitating real-time collaboration and they've enhanced it recently with kind of a huddle-like feature and some chat and some ability to stamp and things, but for all having said all that it doesn't natively have any approval or draft type workflow which is um dumbfounding to me, and so this is the workflow that we've proposed and been using for a while. If there's improvements to this, please call them out, but it essentially says come on in contribute when you do um make a copy of the design, that's within the file.

So so not the design file itself, but just the existing design in the in the file uh that way, you're not editing someone else's work directly, and then we have a hard time like undoing it or comparing between what was there before label your design, so that you know people can get oriented I'll, let you read the rest um part of it says: here's how you'd lay out each page each one of these Pages, which they should mostly be in that format.

But what it does is says that you know there's the kind of the current design, the the approved design and uh draft design, any number of draft designs down below, and um ideally the single page part you could put here. Thank you in context of this page and in that way we can review them side by side.

Okay, but then on this on this uh particular file, now everyone right has view only right. So if you have to move what we've done from the wrong fault only link to this site, how can we now work on it so to speak, because we only.

Yeah yeah, you can.

Imagine yeah, you can imagine uh yep you just get edit access to the to here. So Alexis is a named individual. um Someone that's been here for a few weeks now he's not here trying to he's a not malicious and B is competent and so C should be, and he wants to work on ux and so C. He should be granted added access to the files um you can imagine.

uh Do you know a lot of people that don't know how to use figma um I do as a matter of fact, most people that come here don't and it's amazing, because it's a ux tool and it's not that intuitive people come in and screw it all up. Well-Intended nice pleasant people who are good contributors come in and F it up, and it's extraordinarily frustrating um and that's.

Why there's a view only given, as a matter of fact, there's not even view only automatically assigned um most of you have filled in your new Community member form. If you haven't you, don't have access to a number of things you don't have calendar invites you don't have a number of things um anyway. That's the reason behind the um view. Only it's the same thing as forking code.

It's like hey, we don't let the code sit there in edit mode, so anyone can just drive by and poop on it or accidentally stumble stub their toe on it and mess up the whole project same philosophy. Here last week we dismissed someone from the community because they were um transiting eight gigs worth of copyrighted material on the Google shared Drive. So there's just there's like tons of examples of either malicious or incompetent or whatever incidents.

So that's why there is an edit but I'm glad you asked, which gives me a chance to explain all that and lets. You know to request added access, we'll get it to you, because those those are the two qualifications, no malicious intent and competent. If you make an act, an oopsie, then poop happens and we Undo It We Fix. It somehow.

um So I'm, looking for the notes that I took I took down like six points about why it is that we would want to stick with multi-site, you're I. Think the single most point about keeping a single site um makes sense, although it's an unfair comparison. The bounce, what's the bounce rate for a single page site.

Okay, so bounce rate is typically, it simply means how long your user stays on the site, so the the lower the bounce will, the better. It is for your side, the higher it is, the what's your site, I'll ask nice to see if someone should land on that page now, and it takes them like five minutes to get through everything.

That is a very good bounce rate, because Israel, but if you say Isa enters the page now and is now looking for the uh the auto side, now the authors and the technical reviewers, and how to know more about layer, 5 community and he finds out that he has to go to another page, the the the attention span of a human right. Now, this digitized age is very small, so the the seconds of the attention is limited or rather jump to another.

That would now mean that the balance rate is very high, so they will just stay on this page, for let me see six seconds seconds 10 seconds, knowing fully that there's another page, you can go through wait.

Oh no hi, my attention span. He lost me, no I'm, just I'm, just messing with the Alexis, the reason I'm interrupting and actually I'm, throwing a ton of sarcasm your way and so I'm hoping that it's well received. I uh yeah, that's an interesting I! Don't I had understood bounce rate to be different.

um That was more like it's more like just representing the percentage of visitors who enter the site and then leave rather than continuing to view the other Pages within the same site, calculated by counting the number of single page visits and dividing that by the total visits. So multi-page visits versus total there's an aspect of what you'd said about like how long they're here, that's certainly important to measure, and we should maybe pull that one up and kind of look at it because I think it's.

It's certainly educational for me, because I actually didn't know quite all right. This is what I thought. Bounce rate was, but I wasn't quite 100.

Confident, um like just talking about bounce rate, it probably wouldn't make you know, could be fair to compare a single page site versus multi-page on Bounce rate, because the bounce rate for a single page site is going to be a beautiful number of like zero percent right, because there's another page to go to, but I hear what you're saying, though, about like well I'm, assuming that this is the the way that balance rate is measured, there's probably there's probably a different measurement, or maybe another version of Bounce rate that does account for time spent like 80.

You know time spent and do people get to all your content. Yeah! That's a that's a good consideration! That's an interesting thing to think through some of the justifications before I hesitate to go over the rest of these because we went over them before, but is um additional um was potentially more opportunity for SEO um is I. Don't particularly enjoy is like a single page site feels kind of cheap to me. It's like one of those things that you normally do for a book site like this, which is um put up a single page.

That's just bootstrap has bootstrap on it or what have you and quickly goes through all the contact us and here's where you get the book and here's what it's about? This is meant to be more than that and that's why there's there's I, don't know I'm, not sure how many people have contributed to it just yet, but it will have been more than just one, which is what it normally is for, like the books I the a lot of times, the author themselves will put up the book site.

um This is really like the point of actually having it isn't for the glory of Lee and let's put Lee's ugly mug up on the site, because that's what people want to see trust me they don't. The purpose of the site is actually to give um all of us collectively something to do so. This is kind of nice. This is like part of learning about balance. Trade is like part of the reason of doing this, because learning is just interwoven into all the things that we're doing but another.

The other primary reason for doing the site is to allow people to explore the patterns and hopefully get them to use measuring to use the patterns, because Mastery can take any of the 30-ish patterns that are in that the first volume this first book and they can take and import the pattern and and try it out and that's our overarching goal.

Also multiple Pages allow you to have more than one or two call to actions, because on each page you could have a different primary call to action, um which is kind of nice, because that we've got a couple of different ones. One is like Please Subscribe another one is maybe go access. The book I could care less. If people buy the book or not, but that'd.

uh Another one is to you know: go try out, meshery, see them in action. Anyway, we wrote down the call to actions up here. um I'll try to find the notes about the multi-page. So the reason I interjected is to say I think as long as the sections are basically the same between the single and multi-page, it wouldn't hurt to have people start working on the sections. It's just. um If the discussion of single versus multi is unresolved, there might be some rework as people go to start building out the sections.

Do think that one of the things I said is true, which is it affords us an opportunity to highlight different call to actions, because, if you're on a page kind of highlight the one things or reinforce it, you know drive people to click click here and if you have multiple pages that you get more opportunities, some of the rest of what I said is like man I, don't know that was just Lee's opinion like does it really feel cheap that it's just a single page, not multiple like?

Isn't it easier to navigate or, like you know, is there cheapness? So you know like you know anyway. What I'm trying to encourage everybody to do is like um challenges and stuff that I'm saying, because it might be coming from my rear end.

So we don't uh um I mean one of the things like the very first thing that Alexa said like wait hold on, like that's a really strong.

If, statistically speaking like, it would have to be further assessed, but it's like, statistically speaking, you you'll find that, like people, if, if patterns, was what you're trying to get people to and let them get to those patterns in action and that's on like the middle page there's some certain percent, there's like where do most people land, the home page, all right are the patterns right now on the home page, no, all right, well, you're, risking there's some certain percent, that's just like not going to make it to the like.

There's, definitely Merit to that to what Alexis was saying there and so I, don't know that we have to anyway, as long as the sections themselves are relatively similar in terms of the design, people can get started, and it's very easy to just add the section to a different. You know to break up the pages or to put them back together.

It's just the menu that will change. That's all.

So I just didn't I just want it to be one of those things like. Oh who started this call um lead it Lee was there at the beginning, oh okay. So let's just vote for what Lee said, because you know that sound you know we don't want to. uh We don't want to argue with that guy. You know I'm encouraging you to argue, because what Alexis is saying Alexis is studying, human-centered design or you know, ux graphic design and all these things it's got. Some obviously has some knowledge around SEO Etc.

Please back on the matter of um having separate the duplicate, um the main layer, 5 design file, if I, either and other people who would like to contribute to this particular aspect, which is the service service mesh pattern sites have only view access that would make it difficult for us to either comment or then make changes. That's why we decided to take that approach of making a separate one right and then share it with anyone who would want to come and you know other contributions and then, when um no matter how long it takes right.

When we finally get something of an approvable format, then we cannot bring it to this.

Yeah yeah, that makes sense we could um I, don't know how you're gonna it's gonna be yeah. It's uh might not be ideal either way. Let me ask you this with view. Only access do you or do you have the ability to comment or no.

I can try that's really helpful, because the challenge like I, don't know how you'd measure it the inconvenience of either one the challenge of having a separate design is that now, in the separate copy of the other design, you're gonna have to give everybody else added access to that one. So they could do provide feedback there and you're gonna have to help them get the link to it and so yeah I. You know.

Something to think about.

We have a ton of other agenda items to cover after this, so are we uh finalizing the multi-page site? You know, Alexis. Are you, okay with that.

Cool, so not a lot of changes, similar structure about the authors of the main page move this to a separate page and whatever feedback I told you about this, like move from service measures to more about patterns and action, this needs work, but otherwise it's okay, and once you have a structure ready like uh by this week, or maybe after the call you can ping on the website's Channel Once, you have the paid structure ready like how many pages what each page has and we can assign the various parts to people.

You can because there'll always be people touching and touching and touching it so I'm.

Yeah yeah, it kind of is reminiscent of the fork model of like a like a GitHub reposit of a git repository. So there's the there's, the central one where various contributions are. You know curated.

What's a better system for there's some plugins in figma for like workflow and approval I, think I don't know that they solve the problem.

But there's caveats both both ways like if you take a copy of the designs and you work on them privately then you'd like for people to see those. How do you get that in front of people.

I mean like, like okay, let's see um they say Joanne and a few persons that you feel like these persons have really understand what's going on unless they work on it and yeah, they approve it to you and you see it and you sort of approve and feel like. Okay. This is cool.

You can just copy it and keep it like this or it is an original copy there, where anybody can still come and add or contribute, but whenever they come to country, but you can always tell them that you have a copy that okay, you can either other move, because it's going to be very the way. It is now I'm sure. That's something.

Yeah, if yeah, if we're diligent about so we should I'll, say this and we can move on, and we should take this as homework. It's possible that, if we're diligent about um where the different copies individual copies of work, that's being done where those are.

Okay, uh so first is about the servicemen performance dashboard, so these are the performance tests that runs in cncf clusters lab and we are showing it visually on the service, my performance website, so for the next iteration there are a few updates that I would like to share. uh So the these are the things I've worked on uh like uh all these test specification datas, but some of them are missing. Like I'll show you.

And so, as you can see, the URL and the start time, uh and also the percentiles, where some of these values were missing in the test specifications so now I've fixed that and uh we can.

We can see all of those data in the test specification panel like URL and time and also I've, seen the color scheme of the individual page individual results, page like a Docker in the heading section and as we go down with the heading we'll progressively go lighter and lighter and uh other than that we are also planning to you know rename these performance profiles, uh because, right now, uh as you can see, the performance profile name does not see anything substantial like it's just a file name, but we are planning to rename in such a way that it's more informative, like uh yeah.

This is the one which we decided that we'll okay, no, this one. This is the one in which we give a proper human, readable name as well as some other information like service, mesh load, generator and other thing and other than that uh yeah. uh One uh suggestions I would like to ask: is that uh for the individual instrumental individual results, we are naming that our results in such a wing.

So these this is a date and time of which, when the result was Ran, So This is not so much informative, like it just uh numbers. So I thought that we should change this and I proposed uh I proposed a naming change of name convention, but that too seems you know vague as like it, just it also just date and time in a bit formatted way, so yeah I would want like. If anyone has installation how to name this, it would be good uh Shin did.

Harris uh did had a suggestion that we can name it like this, uh with istio load test with photo, and then we have a date like that. uh But I think this would be a long long result name for a very much result. So yeah some suggestions on what the name can be for the individual test results would would be good, yeah, I.

Mean right: yeah, you wouldn't right you're right the two shouldn't come together like you have any number of tests that are run for a given configuration and there should be a human, legible name or comprehensible name for the configuration. If you would do me a favor and do like month day year, which is what Us North Americans use and that are just so ethnocentric and incapable, we have small, we're small-minded, people I, just can't uh read it anymore.

um That's not that big of a deal. It doesn't ultimately matter that much the the time stamped, um but but yeah we've I mean yeah. If you're like on the back end, you need to sort as a timestamp, so you can do all.

This is the meshery docs and the numbers and the test results that are being displayed in this table are well they're, programmatically updated, so this site is based on Jekyll and the site is statically, compiled statically built and published the numbers, like the total number of versions, 70 74, 10, and you know, and and the other information that all gets updated dynamically as different GitHub repositories run a workflow GitHub action runs. The GitHub action has some output some results. It runs a bunch of tests that has results.

Those results are programmatically pushed over to the meshery docs repo. The site is rebuilt, automatically and published again, and so you know it's not like it's not like it's as about as real time as you would get with a static site like this or anyway. It's not the point, isn't about how fast it gets updated. The point is that it's done programmatically, which is um really helpful and it's one of the the only ways that we could maintain um all these Integrations.

So it's really neat and subedy's been well whether he likes it or not. He's been working with Jekyll fairly intensely for a while and we're we're using Jekyll across a number of sites, and so um he's certainly someone to go see. If you want to Branch out outside of the the service mesh pattern site or the layer 5, I o site or there's just there's just a ton of things to do.

I really appreciate by the way how Joan had not only spoken up and said, hey I think that we could be Hell Or Not only has she spoken up, but also she did two other things. She said, I think that here's where myself and maybe some others could be helpful, it's beautiful, which is perfect. The other thing that she said was like this doesn't look so good.
