what

I
always
seem
to
have
to
say
it's
gmt
plus

We
are
right
at
the
equator,
like
the
equator
passes
through,
where
I
stay
very
closely,
and
it's
mostly
tropical
here
and
maybe
a
few
rainy
months,
but
mostly
25
degrees
plus
weather.
So
it's
a
really
awesome
and
beautiful
place
to
live
in.
So
I'm
currently
a
pm
with
the
microsoft
graph
team,
specifically
developer
experience.

work
on
the
sdks
with
my
team
and
a
lot
of
our
priorities
are
around.
You
know
low,
friction,
tooling,
to
help
people
integrate
with
m365
apps
through
the
graph
and
I've
been
working
at
microsoft.
Now
for
a
year
and
two
months
I
joined
last
year
late
september.
So
I
just
clocked
a
year
two
months
now.

Well,
I've
worked
with
startups,
like
I'm
very
still
early
in
my
career.
I've
only
been
kind
of
like
in
the
job
scene,
for
I
think,
maybe
six
years
now
and
I
throughout
those
whole
six
years
I
was
working
with
startups
so
yeah
it
was
intimidating
walking
into
a
company
with
like
100
300
000
plus
people,
the
biggest
team
I
belonged
in
before
that
was
like
150,
and
I
was
already
like
yeah
there's
a
lot
of
people
to
talk
to
so
the
dynamics
were
completely
welcome.

Yeah
they
say
welcome
to
microsoft,
but
you
really
don't
get
it
till
you're.
Actually
there
like
the
scope
of
even
the
projects
you
walk
on
like
one
of
the
places
I
used
to
work
on
before
we
had
a
logistics
application
and
we
had
a
huge
celebration
getting
to
a
hundred
to
a
thousand
users,
and
then
I
come
here
and
one
of
our
sdks
has
like
100k
or
250k
users
right
a.

Yeah,
it's
it's
mind-blowing,
it's
my
employing,
but
also
the
structure
like
the
structural
aspect
of
being
in
a
bigger
company
like
really
trying
to
find
out
how
you
fit
into
the
big
picture.
That
was
definitely
like
intimidating
and
I
think
it
took
many
many
months
for
me
to
kind
of
see
like
what
impact
my
specific
role
has
in
the
bigger
picture.
But
it's
really
interesting
that
there
is
a
bunch
of
resources
and
there's
like
somewhere
to
start.
So
that
was
great
for
me
yeah.
So
far
it's
been
pretty
cool.

I
think
that
the
one
of
the
learnings
which
I
actually
wrote
down
in
in
the
quick
tweet
at
some
point
I
said
with
after
15
years-
is
that
don't
be
perfectionist,
be
improvingist,
so,
basically,
whatever
you
do
just
keep
on
improving
gradually
and
then
go
forward.
But
you
can't
be
perfect.
This
is
impossible.

It's
not
even
possible,
like
that's
the
other
thing.
There's
like
a
huge
mindset
shift
right
like
this
is
the
first
company
I
walked
into
where
growth
mindset
was
just
like
the
first
thing
I
had
like
from
day
one-
and
you
know,
having
like
a
perfectionist
fixed
mindset,
really
doesn't
allow
you
to
have
a
growth
mindset.

Sure
sure
and
that's
that's
well,
that's
something
actually
we've
been
talking
pretty
much
recently
with
one
leg
is
that
is
that
one
of
the
things
around
the
growth
mindset
is
that
every
now
and
then,
of
course,
you
get
frustrated.
Why
don't
they
understand
this
idea,
and
this
is
going
to
be
huge,
but
it's
not
necessarily
the
right
time.
So
you
need
to
push
the
train
forward,
one
step
at
a
time
until
it
is
the
right
time
for
people
to
then
understand
the
great
idea-
and
that's
that's
a
bit
tricky
for
sure.

and
like
on
the
pm
side
like
coming
from
like
the
startup
scene,
where
rapid
iteration
meant
that
you
could
like
switch
an
idea
like
any
day
anytime.
You
should
be
ready
to
let
it
go
it's
kind
of
now
that
yeah
you
can
iterate
rapidly,
but
it
has
to
be
deliberate
and
there
is
like
a
lot
of
relationship
building
that
needs
to
happen
before
you
pull
something
and
it
screws
over
a
bunch
of
teams
right.

And
I
wonder
how
you
experience
the
dynamic
of
like
being
new
and
your
team,
basically
like
keeping
isolating
you
from
the
bigger
microsoft
like
the
huge
company
and
basically
allowing
you
to
do
your
job
and
then
the
more
you
find
your
place.
The
more
you
become
aware
of
the
bigger
like
different
teams
and
different.

The
level
of
like
historical
information
that
lives
in
so
many
people's
minds
and
is
not
even
documented,
was
the
biggest
challenge
like
and,
and
that's
just
been
something
that
we
we
have
to
always
keep
trying
to
get
better
at.
I
was
just
never
really
into
writing
culture,
like
writing.
Just
the
basic
low
level,
ideas
or
conversations
that
aren't
going,
but
now
it's
become
like
a
stable,
essential
thing
to
happen
and
like
during
planning
it
becomes
even
more
intimidating.

Because
how
do
you
determine
what
a
high
impact
item
or
the
next
six
months
is
going
to
be
it
when
you
don't
really
know
the
customer?
Well
enough-
or
you
don't
even
understand
the
business
goals
well
enough,
and
you
understand
that
the
company
has
very
clearly
defined
priorities
by
breaking
it
down
and
like
having
to
use
relationships
to
find
out
your
role
in
the
big
picture.
That
was
the
that
was
the
craziest
thing.
For
me,
like
six
whole
months,
I
was
just
like
okay.

And
then
it's
also
interesting
because
in
I'm
in
the
africa
development
center
right,
which
is
its
own
individual
site,
which
is
a
fairly
new
site
right,
and
so
you
have
to
orient
yourself
with
what
your
site
does
and
what
your
site
contributes
to
the
goal
of
the
company.
And
then
there
is
now
your
role
within
the
m365
team
and
how
that
scales
up
to
business
goals
and
then
there's
all
these
ergs
that
are
happening
on
the
side
that
actually
also
contribute
to
bigger
company
goals
like
diversity
and
inclusion.

you
have
to
position
yourself
there
and
it's
it.
It's
not
the
conventional
scope
of
work
that
I
was
used
to
like
in
the
startup
scene.
Your
contribution
would
primarily
be
tied
to
the
metrics
of
success
that
you
are
told
to
check
off.
But
then
this
like
really
demands
you
to
be,
like
all
rounded,
in
terms
of
relationships:
the
goals,
the
metrics,
the
your
your
physical
location
and
the
site
that
you're
in
and
how
you
contribute
to
that.

So
it's
it's
a
lot,
but
it's
also
really
interesting,
because
then
it
helps
you
zoom
in
on
the
unique
challenges
of
your
individual
site,
because
I
am,
I
think,
I'm
the
only
pm
now
in
nairobi,
who's
working
in
the
devex
team.
It
used
to
be
me
and
betty,
but
she
moved
so
I'm
the
only
one
now
and
it's
kind
of
like
it's
so
easy
to
get
detached
from
your
contributions
on
your
individual
site
and
focus
on
your
collaboration
with
the
rest
of
the
team.

Now,
how
does
that
actually
work?
Can
you
talk
about
a
bit
on,
like
you
said,
you're,
the
only
pm
right
now
in
the
dev
tv?
Maybe
there
will
be.
Hopefully
there
will
be
multiple
new
people
in
the
future,
but
how
does
that
dynamics
work
with
your
team,
so
the
rest
of
the
team
is
partly.
Is
it
scattered
in
canada,
u.s
europe
or
how
does
it
actually
work.

East
african
time,
so
the
first
couple
of
months
was
hard
to
adjust,
because
then
I
have
to
actually
have
conversations
with
family
and
friends,
and
I
will
do
breakfast
dates
and
not
dinner
dates
anymore,
because
I'm
going
to
be
working
like
in
the
evenings
right
and
how
the
site
here
works
is
that
there
are
it's
kind
of
just
like
how
most
sites
work.
I
think
there's
a
bunch
of
teams
from
identity,
there's
a
research
development
team
here
and
there
are
very
low.

There
are
very
few
places
where
all
these
teams
interact
and
we
mostly
interact
when
it
comes
to
projects
that
are
specifically
tied
to
being
in
the
sub-saharan
africa
region,
which
is
like
erg's,
volunteer
gift
campaign.
That
kind
of
stuff
we
work
together
but
like
teams
are
completely
walking
in
like,
are
working
on
completely
different
things.
So
yeah,
that's
kind
of
how
it
looks
like,
and
it's
gotten
a
lot
easier
for
our
team
now
to
collaborate
across
the
time
zones,
because
there's
just
a
lot
going
on.

good,
because

quiet
time
is
in
the
morning,
which
means
that
no
meetings,
no
human
interaction,
interacts
my
workflow,
so
that's
really
fun,
but
then
the
intensity
of
how
much
human
interaction
you

the
evening
when
it's
typically
the
time
when
you're
supposed
to
be
winding
down.
That
is
like
a
shock
to
my
system,
but
I
have
to
be
up
and
awake
and
energetic
at
around

pm

taken

little
getting
used
to,

I
it's
like
yeah,

much
better.

time
to

parents,

working

home

working

startups
in
nairobi

walking

office

jeans

converse

how
do
you
go
to
work
like
that?
You
mean
you
can
walk

now
when
a
player
like
microsoft
comes
in
and
it's

oh
hybrid,
walk,
please

work
hours,
it's
still
so
new
and
people
just
don't
understand
how
you're
going
to
be
able
to

productive

you

by
giving
people
more
flexibility
over
their
time.

like
for
us
to
get
people
to
be
more
productive.

traditional
way
has
been
to
have
more
control
over
the
time
that
you're
paying
them
for
and
now
it's
opening
up-
and
I
think,
there's
like
also
a
mental
shift-
that's
happening
in
the
workforce
here
around.
I
don't
really
need
to
be
over
extending
myself
to
be
productive.
I
can
take
this
time
to
re-center
myself
and
that
will
make
me
drive
impact
even
more
but
yeah,
I
think,
maybe
having
an
engineering
background,
as
you
said
well
there
and
shipping
that
shipping
mentality
and
press
crossing
off
activities
definitely
plays
a
huge
role
right
now.

mindset
change
like
that
was
a
huge
thing
for
me,
new
being
new
at
microsoft
impact
versus
activities
I
used
to
do
activities.

do
a
lot
because
then,
back

look
back
and
say:
hey
I've
done
these
20
million
things
and
they're
done
and
they're
ticked
off,
and
I
have
things
to
show
for
them.

the

day-to-day
tasks,

sat
in
this

actually
background

leading
communities

I
I
wasn't
my
entry
into
like
computer
science
was
very
influenced
by
the
fact
that
my
dad
is
also
a
developer.
So
I
just
like
I
liked
the
whole
vibe
of
like
just
being
around
geeky
people,
so
it
was
pretty
straightforward
for
me
when
I
was
selecting
my
course
and
learned
to
strathmore.
The
computer
science
course
was
very
intense
in
that
there
was
a
lot
of
mathematical
context
that
I
didn't
get,
because
I
chose
to
do
a
diploma
in
business
and
I
t
instead
of
doing
like
a
diploma
in
math.

So
for
some
time
I
was
really
like
in
the
clouds,
but
the
easiest
way
for
me
came
from
learning
through
community
right
like
the
early
stage
stuff
was
nobody.
Has
it
figured
out?
These
are
new
technologies
that
have
landed
on
the
continent,
and
people
want
to
build.
Android,
apps
or
people
want
to
build
mobile
apps,
and
this
is
technology
that
we're
all
trying
to
explore
together.

perception
on

it
wasn't
a
perception
internet
coverage
in
kenya-

not
very
great,

maybe
more
urban
areas

nairobi

videos

little
videos
with

how
to
get
started
on

figure
out
how
to
distribute

have

I
did
this

my
second
year
of
uni.
All
the
way

my
final
year

time

was
in
my
final
year
of
uni,
I
was
like
the
lead
for
nairobi,
which
was
like
a
whole
different
dynamic,
then,
because
we're
talking
communities
of
up
to
like
15,
000,
20,
000
developers
and
we're
talking
like
80
percent
of
them
are
a
beginner.

the
distribution
on
who
could
train,
who
was
a
meme,
was
a
major
challenge,
but
I
think
there
have
been
so
many
great
stories
around
what
it's
meant
to
people's
careers
to
be
a
part
of
a
community
where
they
could
pop
in
and
ask
the
simplest
of
questions
like
here's,
a
snippet
of
what's
going
on
in
my
life,
somebody
helped
me
and
people
come
in
and
they
swoop
in,
and
it
becomes
a
really
con
producing.
You
know
conversational.

I
think
at
this
point
I
was
fully
doing.
Back-End
development
did
a
little
bit
of
mobile,
but
I
was
fully
fully
into
writing
java
and
known
language
called
scala,
and
I
was
geeking
out
on
it
like
I
felt
like
such
a
badass
at
that
point
and
yeah
you'd
be
like
no,
you
guys
are
still
writing
c-sharp.
Have
you
tried

it

because
I've
also
had
like
so
many
people
got
like
their
first
first
approached
by
their
employees
or
like
recruiters
through
community
presentations
and
events.

think

community
really

gives
back

getting
actively
rewarded
like
monetarily
for
your
contribution

I've,
I'm

a
living
testament
that
it

given
me

opportunities

position
myself

where
I'm
at
in
my
career
right
now.

big

bit
but

really
focused
on

developer
relations,
stuff,
which
is
when
I
was
working
with
africa
stalking.

was
such
a
great
travel
opportunity.

was
just

can't

imagine

this

would
have
never
wanted
to
be
devrel
if
during
covid,
because,
like
deborah
at
that
point,
was
this
group.

Suddenly
so
busy
yeah,
but
it
was
a
globetrotter
kind
of
thing.
It
was
like
always
have
a
suitcase
packed
really
made
people
all
across
africa
also
got
me
like
some
global
exposure,
because
I
spent
some
time
in
san
francisco
doing
devrel
for
the
company.
I
was
working
on
at
that
at
the
time
and
general
is
also
just
like
a
great
place
to
get
a
feel
of
which
avenue
you
want
to
go
into,
because
I
would
have
never
gotten
into
pm.

If
I
hadn't
really
gotten
that
perspective
of
the
factors
that
go
into
planning
and
scoping
projects,
so
yeah,
it's
it's
it's
been
like
up
down,
but
then
at
the
same
time
I
always
see
that
this
pm
role
that
I'm
in
is
a
good
conglomerate
of
everything.
Right
like
I
have
to
tap
into
the
devil
inside.
I
have
to
tap
into
some
of
my
engineering
capacity
and
then
I
also
now
have
to
build
that
pm
muscle,
because
I've
only
been
a
pm
for
like
what
three
years
now
yeah
yeah
yeah.

I
guess
maybe
also
on
that.
I
think
that
there
are
also
two
aspects
to
being
a
pm
right
like
what
does
it
mean
to
be
a
pm,
and
you
can
you
can
do
your
work
and
take
the
boxes
or
you
can
think
about?
Okay,
what
can
I
do
more
to
maximize
the
empty
that
I
make,
and
that
will
then
involve
your
devrel
experience,
engineering
experience,
which
are
not
necessarily
a
prerequisite
for
a
pm,
but
they
do
matter
once
you
want
to
do
more
and
reach
more
with
the
work
you
already
do.

that's
that's
a
great
point,
because
also
it's
just
all
those
experiences
and
then
also
bringing
you
experience
as
a
developer
in
sub-saharan
africa
or
like
a
woman
in
tech
in
sub-saharan
africa.
It
really
plays
like
a
direct
role
in
the
day-to-day
tasks
that
I
do
because
I
mean
like
when
it
comes
to
the
dynamics
of
being
like
a
woman
in
tech
in
africa.
There
is
a
lot
of
like
moving
parts.

is
like
a
lot
of
bias
and
we're
still
very
early
staging
like
breaking
down
the
walls
that
really
bring
in
the
inclusivity
of
women.
Within
conversations
with
you
know,
companies
like
like
microsoft,
but
it's
it's
it's
way
way
better
than
it
was
when
I
was
like
in
uni,
because
it
seems
now
that
there
is
like
deliberate
effort
into
including
women
and
some
of
the
weird
things
that
we
used
to
have
to
do
during
community
was.
We
would
never
like
if
we
were
having
like
in
pass
on
meetups.

Things
that
really
made
a
difference
in
terms
of
like
bringing
in
more
women
into
this
space,
just
those
little
considerations
and
also
just
stuff
like
having
women,
be
the
people
to
lead
certain
initiatives
really
made
a
difference,
because
then
it
was
really
important
to
have.
You
know
see
somebody
go
through
the
track
that
you're
on
your
early
stage,
you
haven't
figured
out
what
your
path
looks
like,
but
you
see
somebody
who
also
had
maybe
some
similarities
in
either
their
background
or
either
their
educational
background
or
their
family
background
that
made
it
to
a
stage.

It's
yeah
yeah,
but
it's
it's
different
and
I'm
coming
back
and
we've
gone
a
long
way
on
this
journey,
but
there's
still
a
lot
to
be
done
in
the
u.s.
I
need
europe
and
in
and
in
africa
and
across
the
world,
but
until
we
are
in
full
equality
because
that's
that's
the
ultimate
goal
for
sure,
but
getting
there
one
step
at
a
time
again,
if
you're
being
perfectionist,
you
will
get
frustrated
and
angry.

push

to
forward
until
we
aren't
there,
hopefully
so
and
having

when
it
comes
to
even
determining
which
tools
to
use
it's
like,
what's
going
to
be
the
lowest
barrier
of
entry,
considering

much

product
costs
for
us
to
actually
just
get
something
going.

conversations
with
communities
that
have
tried
to
position
themselves
in

nairobi,
and
it's
more
of

coming
with
that
perspective

can
take
that
and
run

customize

based

receptive
to
certain
types
