Welcome to the viewer connections and SharePoint framework by weekly sync, the goal of the Microsoft 35 platform Community today I'm your host and I'm Paulo Pelosi from psis.com.

So uh let's dig into the content of these uh bi-weekly meeting and today we will have the latest updates on SharePoint framework, as well as on the parliament, practices, libraries and Community projects. Then, like always, we will also dig into the community samples updates and we will take few seconds or a couple of minutes to have the famous picture time with together mode, and then we will move to a couple of great demos, one from Luis Manet and one from Cooney, while Trisha sangani, hopefully I I, did it right and sorry if I didn't. Okay.

So, first of all, as a reminder, remember that we are a really open and inclusive community. So we are open to the contribution of everyone else uh in this uh Award of micro 65 technology. So you can contribute by creating uh demos. You can contribute on GitHub by creating a pull request or just and simply reporting issues in the GitHub repositories or by helping people answering to their questions as well as clearly. You can also contribute by providing your feedback through the various channels that we have mainly through the GitHub repositories.

We do it in a safe space opportunity where we do not record you can ask any and all questions without fear of it being recorded.

Everybody starts somewhere, so we want to work together with you and show you and work right alongside how you can contribute back to the community. They are absolutely free of charge. What's going on in the SharePoint framework area, from an engineering, Microsoft engineering point of view so base up, please let us know.

Keep quick updates and here's. The latest version for production uses is 1.16.1. Some of you might have actually noticed. We wrote about 1.16.1 and then we did actually momentarily flipped back the latest attack in the mpm 2.1.16, because there was a server-side dependency in 1.16.1 which wasn't out and all of that, but now it's all fully out and the latest tag. So as you, as you run the install from npm, it is points into the 1.16.1 which has some small additional fixes.

On 1.16., we can see the the growth patterns on the spfx usage since January 2020 uh to July, 2022 uh or sorry December 2022.. We, we did actually break one huge milestone uh earlier. December I cannot go to exact details and on the numbers, but it is tens of millions of monthly active users worldwide, using spfs components built by you so built by our partners and customers across the Microsoft 365.

uh Quick recap: nothing really traumatic. Your 1.16.1 is the latest version which we're recommend to be used in production.

um It's been tested closely and verified and, of course, and you can follow up on the issue list, if there's any any uh new findings, 1.17 is expected to go ga or available in the first quarter in 2023, uh with a bot framework powered Microsoft, Vivo cards in preview, node 18 supports and a lot of other stuff, as well in general, we're looking into kind of a potentially do an spfx V2 with a potential renaming and all of that within 2023, but all of those decisions and details will be defined a bit later, but that's a quick update from the SPF hexi.

Of course, the light is my primary goal: uh version 3.10 was released, December 13th, we had some general document. Patient updates, uh a long-awaited fix for the caching pessimistic behavior that got broken by something else, uh and it was something that I was the only one apparently using. So it was fine if it was broken for a while uh fix, get sharing information. We added the ability to select fields from the sharing information, because that's a big section of a big chunk of JavaScript that it brings back.

So that was an important ad uh Patrick did the uh did the awesome work of add an update and delete methods for taxonomy, that's in the SP endpoint. So that's an awesome ad and we did some updates to graph OneDrive endpoint and if you are interested in that graph, OneDrive endpoint I am almost ready with a massive overhaul, with a bunch of new methods added to OneDrive for our next release, which will be 3.11 and that will be in January.

Don't forget if you see uh if you've submitted them a pull request, or you see a pull request, that's of interest to you. You can check out and it's merged. You can check out the nightly build. So if you install the at PMP, slash, SP or slash graph or whatever at V3 nightly, you will get the latest build based on.

Thanks Paulo uh yeah, so what's been going on with CLI, so we have a new Beta release, so this is version 6.1. uh Last month we actually had our uh major release of version. Six we've got lots of new commands that have been added and so I'm, starting with SharePoint framework. This is an update. So, as Facebook already mentioned, there was 1.16.1 that was released, and so we've added support for upgrading your projects to that version, and we have Microsoft planner. So we've got some updates, uh a command that helps. You update the plans.

uh We've got several Power Platform commands as well that have been added so getting removing chat, Bots uh listing rows from dateverse tables and adding solution Publishers to environments and as well as a as more commands actually for Microsoft purview. So if you're interested in security compliance, we've got commands to list and remove retention labels and also, if you're, using teams meetings which I'm sure you all are, and you want to list all the attendance reports for those meetings, there's now a command for that as well and check out the release.

Notes, uh that's linked on the screen are in the chat, because there's lots more updates bug fixes improvements to existing commands as well. So definitely please check that out. If you want to get the the latest beta then just use the the beta tag. So, if you're getting that from npm user app, Beta And, if you're using the docker container, then just use the beta tag on there.

So great great idea now, another really interesting component or library of components provided by the PMP Community are the spfx reusable components. So we have Alex telling us what's going on there.

Thank you Paula. So not many of you in here we are still on 312 for react, controls and 311 for uh property controls. I want to encourage you to uh contribute to the uh controls. For example, there are a lot of issues in both of those libraries, so feel free to go to the issues list, and if you can help with the fixing, some of that issues did that will be just uh awesome and that's all I have.

Thank you thank you, Alex, and so let's move on and let's talk about the PMP, modern search and the PMP modern search components in this area we released a new version version 4.8 for espc 22 couple of weeks ago. In that one we have some really powerful new capabilities like well, for example, the update to a shopping framework 115.2, as well as support for adaptive cards, which are now actionable.

So you can provide the results of a search query through adaptive cards, which can be clicked by the user and can be interactive almost like what happens with the Viva adaptive card. Just to give you an idea, as well as plenty of fixes and new features, and just to let you know, uh the old version 3 of the modern search web parsa is now old enough. That Michael will stop taking care of it and coding it.

So please move to the latest one and if you're still on the old one V3 upgrade to the V4, because it is now time to do that and to enjoy a bunch of new capabilities in this new uh release. That said, we can also talk about the PMP spfx samples.

Hi everyone I'm sharing my screen, so please, let me know when you can see: I see it so you can go okay! Thank you! um Yeah in this demo, I'm gonna show you what's kyota and how we can use it inside an spfx web part. Very quick about me.

H

My name is Luis Mania I work as a Chief Architect at Green people, I'm, a Microsoft, this device, development, MVP and also I just want to contributor in this amazing community, and you can find me in the usual social networks at Luis Manet, so feel free to film me with any question feedback. It's always good and well apologies in advance.

If the you were expecting some kind of some new rice or anything related with the Japanese culture, but the truth is that kyota is um Swahili word and, and it means nest, but what's kyota exactly well kyota, it's a common light tool that generates a client, an SDK if you will for any API described using open API.

H

So the advantage are really clear because, instead of you coding your SDK for for the API, your client for the API and you just wanna command line and you're gonna, get it and in in just a seconds and even more because if you need to provide different sdks in different languages cover as well, because currently support most of them. Well known, languages like CSR, Java, typescript and and so on. Everything is in the official documentation.

Please know that it's still in in public preview, but as per my experience and it's very stable and also I'd say that even Microsoft is already using it for some of their graph sdks internally. So and it looks pretty pretty stable and that's it. You just need to run this command. There's a bunch of different properties.

Everything will documented, but you can say, kyota generate you pass the open API of your API, the language you want to use and also where the one do you want to place them the generated files and that's all uh by the way. If you don't know about open API, open API is just a standard for describing an API.

H

So a bunch of expert in development apis gathered together and create this um a standard, and you can see an example in the in this slide, but you basically say hey: this is the title of my API version, all these endpoints, my HTTP paper, for example in the response code and the different objects for input and output in the in the endpoints um and yeah. This girl is the one and only AEG in arenas, so good for us is in there.

Okay, what we have in the in the sample- and we want to see in the demo- is um we have a custom, API called dimified API, it's secure by a reluctant directory and that API calls a Microsoft graph API to do some actions around the team's endpoint.

H

So um you can get a list of the different themes in your tenant and you can get um detail of a specific theme and also you can provision a new team and then we also have an spfx web part that is going to use a Toyota generated client in typescript and to call that API and really really easy. Let's, let's have a quick look on how authentication works on on kyota and Azure active directory, and the API is secure, whether at the directory.

So um we need the kyota client to be able to get a token for calling the the API and to do so and first we have the entry point. The entry point is then a client generated by by kyota there's a main class as an entry point. That class requires what is called a request adapter for all the networking operations and the request. Adapter also needs an authentication provided and an access token provided. These are different packages in the in in kyota, provided by kyota.

Everything by the way is open source, so you can take a look to the to the short code and finally, the document provider is using the aid token provider that is coming from SharePoint framework, so the action to get the token is actually done by SharePoint framework by the spfx using the aid a token provider, the other classes from kyota is kind of a wrapper and and the action is done by the aid token provider.

Okay, let's take a look to the demo so well. Fortunately, the the web part is nothing to fancy. To be honest, I have already the the Web Bar running locally, so in the workbench there's a team's list web part and is so in the different teams in the tenant, with title description, picture and and some of the members of the of the team, the interesting part is how we are calling the the API using using kyota. So let's take a look into this.

This is a visual studio code with the with the sample. Everything is already in the GitHub repository, so you can take a look to the code and I've already placed an open, API Json file, and this Json file by the way has been generated using swagger I'm, pretty sure you, you know Swagger from the asp.net it's already available in the in the template when you create a new usp.net web project and using swagger I got this open.

Api Json file with the different endpoints input, output, response on the different and the different objects and then we're gonna use kyota to generate a client, so I'm jumping into the console, and if we do something like Yota generate we'll specify the open API. We are saying and we want typescript and we're also specifying the the main class name, which is called dignified, API client, and we want to place the generative files into the kyota generated folder and if we do so is done um so at this.

At this point, we've already generated the the files, but also take a look that Yota is saying here: hey if you want more info about the list of dependencies that you need to add to your project. You can write this Kyoto info command, so, let's copy paste and what this is doing is telling you all the different dependencies and in this case, as the language is typescript and is getting you, the npm install commands that you need to run into your. In this case the spfx web part project.

If you are using.net, then you're gonna get the download package command one with the different packages from from nougat and I guess it was the same way with them with all the different support languages. I've already moved them generated a code to this and to the spfx and webpart project.

So we have the different packages in the in the package: Json, the abstraction authentication and and so on, and let's see now how we are using kyota inside the the spfx web part, instead of doing it from this on the studio code, let's jump in into the slides.

This is just what we've seen well, we're not gonna go into much detail into the API. It's just a standard, minimal, sp.net web API is secure by using uh active directory with this with this code and configure to be enabled to call graph and on behalf of the on the user.

These are the three endpoints provided by the API, as already mentioned, get a little bit of the themes, a list of teams, the specific and any information for a specific team and provisional team, and actually the API is using the Microsoft graph SDK. The dominated SDK, and so everything is done by the graph service, client and so here's the code for getting the different deals of the tenant, and this is the code to to provision a new and in teams just using the vsdk.

Okay, the important part is is now here in the spfs web part. So this is the code from the from the web part itself and the web part is calling A team's list and we have component and that component is getting as a prop the aad token provider, Factory that it's already in the context in the SharePoint and Web Bar context. Remember from the authentication on a slide that we're gonna need this aav token provider for authentication.

So we need to pass the the factory in this case that is already in the in the context and when the web bar is Mount and what we are doing is calling the token provider Factory and when the promise is resolved, and we already have a token provided an IED and token provided. What we are doing is creating a new authentication provider.

This is coming from kyota the Azure ID spfx authentication provided pass in that token provider and some other parameters like the Azure ID application, Theory from module ID when you register the the application and when you have the authentication provided you create the fetch request, adapter passing that out provider and finally, we created timified, API client.

This object is the one created by a kyota and we pass the the adapter once we have the client it's as simple as calling the client dot teams, because our endpoint is, is teams dot get and when the promise is is resolved. We get the the list of themes we pass to the reactor State and we render them and the different teams using the flu and UI document component as easy, as as it is, let's take a quick look to the code generated by by kyota so coming back to we saw the story again.

We have scrolled again and then we take a look to the folder in here client, and this is the code generated by kyota. We don't care that much it's kyota's magic and so we're good. But this is the main entry point that I already showed you in the in the in the previous slide and well.

This is the client, so you can see there's a request adapted in the Constructor and this kind of things, all the different models and from the API, the channel, the team and so on, and all this code is generated by kyota. So you don't need to do anything it's already there and for using. You just need three lines: three lines of code, jumping back to the slides, as I said, the the sample is already available in.

Repo, so have a look, and let me know by the way the the spfx authentication provider is, is a contribution from from myself to the kyota repository. So now it's time for the next demo, which is about building an ace for showing real-time trade prices of Stocks by Kuni Bal Krishna sangani. Thank you. Thank you, Paolo. Please. Let me share my screen. Okay, perfect! Thank you. Thank you. So, uh yeah today we'll be looking into uh one of the sample which I have created, uh which is uh based on adaptive card extension. It is displaying a real-time stock prices, Forex and cryptocurrencies. So uh a little bit about myself.

I

My name is kunj and I like to contribute in PNP Community I even do write blogs in C sharp corner, so you can check out and connect with me, and even if you face any issue in any of my sample, you can connect with me. I would be happy to help you, so this is the link where the sample is currently present. So if you want to try it out, I would recommend you to please try it out and give me feedback if in case you want to change something or add something as a feature.

So what was the driving Factor was uh like in in my organization there was a new adaptive card extension which they were looking for, wherein they display the stock prices of the organization, uh because there were many uh esops which were given to employees and they want to calculate what was their actual amount and all those things, and they want to see it in real time.

I

So this was one of the driving factor and uh nowadays like because uh the cryptocurrency market is crashing right now, but previously everyone were investing in cryptocurrency and wanted to see what their uh Bitcoin or ethereums or cryptocurrency values were in real time. So this was another driving factor and that too, in a dashboard which, uh in in the Viva connection itself, so first, what we'll do is we'll see the demo and then and then I'll walk you through the code. So uh this is uh the Adaptive card extension which I have created it.

It displays the ethereum real-time data. As you can see, this is the Adaptive card extension, which displays the real-time data of the ethereum in the USD. So this data is coming from the coinbase uh crypto exchange. So if you see uh this is showing in INR, but if I change to USD, it would be the similar price which we see over here, which gets updated in real time.

Okay, for this, we are using an API called as finhub API, uh we'll see this more in detail in the code section, but uh this adaptive card extension can even show uh not only the cryptocurrencies but uh even the uh the stock prices and the Forex Market as well. So if I go and change this, so what I have given in in the uh property pane is uh the finhub token. So this is used for getting the fetching the API and there is a symbol for each stock or Bitcoin.

So we can change from uh this and if I want to see what is the Euro to USD price. Currently, I can just change to Euro to USD republish it and go back to my SharePoint home page, wherein we can see the dashboard and it should show us the price. So we we can even change the title as well as per our requirement, so this would show us uh the real-time data from onada. So this is one of the Forex exchanges which gives us a converter from Euro to USD, okay.

So this now coming to the code part. So, as I mentioned, we are using the API provided by finhub, so you can get the free API key or else. If you want to use it for your organization, you can get a paid one as well for the real-time data. If I go to the code section. uh The first file, which we updated was the property pane. So we have added a few property pins called as fenhub token and fin Hub symbol.

So this we are using and if I go to the code itself, there's only one method which I have updated: nothing fancy. We are using primary text card only and on the init function. What we are doing is we are using websocket to get the real-time data and there is this token which we are replacing and uh there are few events which we are listening to. So one of them is opening the websocket and then getting the message from it.

So once we get the message, we get the trade prices and we display it in into our adaptive card, so in the card view. So this is a very simple uh adaptive card extension, but it could be very helpful for your organization, so I would like to get feedback and I would like to here. Everyone uh like what what are your thoughts about it. So, yes summaries. We are using the finhub API, you can check the finhub API uh and uh this is it. So. Thank you.
