From YouTube: Orientation - 2021 CESM Tutorial
Description
The 2021 CESM Tutorial will take place 09 - 13 August 2021. This year the tutorial will remain entirely virtual via Zoom due to continued uncertainty about travel related to the global pandemic. During the tutorial week, activities will occur during a 9 am to 3 pm MDT window, which includes breaks in between live sessions. A total of 50 students will be selected and all applicants will be notified by mid May, 2021. The deadline for applying is Monday, 1 March, 2021 at 11:59 PM Mountain Time.
The CESM Tutorial will consist of:
A mix of live and pre-recorded lectures on simulating the climate system. Students are expected to watch the pre-recorded lectures before the corresponding live Q&A session;
Pre-recorded practical sessions on how to run CESM, modify components, and analyze the output. During the tutorial week there will be daily live office hours dedicated to help students with any potential problems encountered during the practical sessions. Again, students are expected to complete the practical sessions before the corresponding office hours;
The CESM Tutorial is targeted at the graduate student level (2nd year and beyond), but postdocs, research scientists, and faculty members are also welcome to apply. race

gender

either
minoritizing

marginalizing
spaces,

always

take
your
focus
sometimes
in
america,
especially.

when
I
look
at
this,
so
I
have
some
things
like
my
post-secondary
education.
The
fact
that
I
am
also
in
first
english
is
my
first
language.

neurotypical,
although
coming
out
of
graduate
school,
I
started
to
to
kind
of
doubt
that
so
that
was
something
that
I'm
bringing
now
to
my
identity
as
well
and
trying
to
navigate
in
the
spaces
that

entering
and
and
how
and
learning
how
those
have
affected
the
spaces
that
I've
entered
before
and
how
I
leave
them
and
trying
to
leave
them.
As
you
know,
more
informed
for
the
next
generation,
and
I
believe
we
can
go
forward
to
the
next

can

that
for
any
of
these
that
there
are
ways
that
people
will
have
bias
against
others
and
that
might
be
their
size,
their
age,
their
sexual
orientation,
their
skin
color,
their
religious
beliefs,

wealth,

for
example,
just
yesterday
in
the
news
there
was
a
story
about
a
blind
and
deaf
swimmer,
para
olympian,
who
had
been
winning

kinds
of
world

awards,

olympic
committee
would
not
let
her
mother
attend

olympics
with
her.

On
the
other
hand,
golf
players
can
have
caddies
during
covet
and
horse
players
can
have
their
horse.
Riders
can
have
people
with
them,
so
those
are
sort
of
like
some
wealth
wealth
discrepancies
that
come
out
so
just
to
be
aware
of
the
kinds
of
phobias
that
we
and
isms
that
we
have
is
just
we
just
wanted
to
point
those
out,
and
that
sort
of
that
takes
me
to
the
next
slide.

the
this
really
it's
really
interesting
in
in
the
world
of
geosciences.
We
really
don't
hear
that
much
about
the
history
of
of
the
science
in
terms
of
racism,
sexism

so
on.

know
you
hear
about

various
great
wonderful
thinkers

work
they
did
and
the
exploration
that
they
did,
but
we
don't
hear
about
some
of
the
really
horrible
things
that
they
also
did
so,
for
example,
captain
cook
who
explored

really
get
a
context
for
the
history
of
racism
in
geology
and
we
kind
of
come
at
it
with
this
blank
slate,
not
knowing,
but
it
really
is
historically
entrenched
in

sciences
that
we
that
we
do
atmospheric

earth
sciences,
and
so,
if
you
go
to
the
next
slide,
there's
been
long
legacy
of
these
issues.
But
people
are
beginning
to
speak
out
this
young
man,
josh
annadu,
has
written.

was

in
nature
just
last
year

experiences
in
the
field,

think
I
saw
him

it

him
on
on
a
youtube
video
right
after
the
incident
that
he
describes
in

out
working

a
team
and
ended
up
being
confronting
being
confronted
by
some
white
supremacists
and
how
scared
he
was.

people

not

sure

people

stages

feelings

words
that

out
at

she

the

was

Aliens
have
standing
in

was
just
kind
of
like
that.

Terminology

offensive
and
outdated
and
incorrect,
and
so
I
not
really
begrudgingly,
because
it
was
something
that
I
thought
was
needed
to
be

spoke
up

that
language
is
offensive
and

me

started

own
