A
Mushara
Houston
and
I
work
for
the
Florida
Legislature's
office
of
program
policy
analysis
and
Government
Accountability.
We
are
a
research
office
of
the
legislature
and
most
know
us
as
oh
pardon
I'm,
a
chief
analyst
in
the
criminal
justice
policy
area
and
I'm
responsible
for
evaluating
various
criminal
justice
issues
relating
to
prison,
community
supervision,
juvenile
justice
and
criminal
laws.
I
also
evaluate
Highway
Safety
issues,
I
actually
started
at
Okada
as
an
intern.
A
I
hold
a
bachelor's
and
master's
degree
in
business
administration
from
Florida
A&M
University
I
wanted
to
stay
until
a
happy
for
my
last
summer
semester
and
I
needed
an
internship
and
I
decided
to
apply
for
okada.
I
fell
in
love
with
the
responsibilities
of
the
job,
a
variety
of
the
job
and
I
decided
to
apply
after
only
a
month
and
a
half
upon
graduation.
A
My
friends
took
their
MBAs
to
corporate
America
and
started
very
lucrative
careers,
but
being
the
analyst
that
I
am
I
did
the
math
after
several
of
them
said
they
had
to
work
60
to
80
hours
a
week
to
earn
that
pay.
Let's
just
say
that
I
earned
more
than
they
do
per
hour.
But
for
me
it's
not
about
the
money,
it's
about
being
a
public
servant
and
working
for
the
citizens
of
this
good
state.
A
I,
evaluate
various
programs,
issues
in
law
at
the
request
of
the
legislature
and
provide
members
and
committee
staff
with
analyses
to
help
them
make
informed
decisions.
Members
typically
don't
have
the
time
or
the
resources
to
conduct
the
comprehensive
research
that
they
need.
So
we
assist
them
in
getting
the
information
and
the
data
they
need
when
they
need
it.
It's
a
good
partnership,
I'd
say
because
their
staff
are
busy
working
on
day-to-day
issues.
A
I
like
the
excitement
and
the
variety
of
my
job,
the
most
on
any
given
project
I
might
be
at
a
prison
looking
at
inmate
health
care
or
officer
Staffing's
riding
along
with
a
probation
officer
to
get
an
understanding
of
what
it
means
to
be
on
probation
and
to
actually
supervise
those
offenders.
I've
had
ride
alongs
with
the
Florida
Highway
Patrol
to
understand
they
day
to
day
jobs
and
I've,
even
worn
an
ankle
monitor
that
understand
how
it
is
to
be
on
GPS
electronic
monitoring.
A
The
best
day
on
the
job
for
me
is
any
day
that
I
finally
publish
a
report.
It
is
a
long
and
tedious
process
in
publishing
a
report
so
anytime
that
I
get
to
the
end
of
the
report
and
publish
it
and
it's
out
the
door.
That
is
definitely
my
best
day
on
the
job.
Every
time
I
pull
up
and
pump
gas
at
the
gas
station
there's
a
little
sticker
on
there.
That
shows
a
whole
bunch
of
when
that
actual
gas
pump
has
been
inspected.
A
When
I
first
started
at
Haga,
we
were
working
on
a
report.
I
brought
it
to
the
attention
of
the
department
that
the
ink
that
they
were
using
to
put
those
stickers
on
the
pumps
we're
fading,
and
so
they
changed
that
so
I
get
a
constant
reminder
of
how
I've
made
a
difference
in
the
state.
My
busiest
time
is
just
before
session,
when
I'm
getting
ready
to
present
any
reports
that
we've
done
or
finalizing
reports
on
a
session
day.
A
A
The
biggest
challenges
that
I
face
are
the
political
nature
of
the
environment,
because
I'm
not
working
directly
in
the
Capitol
on
a
day
to
day
basis,
I
like
to
say
that
I
am
out
of
the
political
day-to-day,
but
when
we're
working
on
reports,
especially
those
that
are
highly
charged,
I,
definitely
am
made
aware
that
we
are
still
a
part
of
this
political
process.
In
our
reports,
cars,
sometimes
driven
by
politics
in
pursuing
my
master's
degree
in
Business
Administration
I,
was
well
on
my
way
to
corporate
America.
A
But
I
made
a
stop
at
OU,
paga
and
state
government
and
found
that
this
job
provided
a
personal
satisfaction
and
rewards
that
I,
probably
couldn't
get
in
corporate
America.
I
did
not
have
a
devotion
to
public
service,
had
no
desire
to
be
a
public
servant
and
often
joke
with
my
friends
that
the
only
thing
I
knew
about
government
was
how
to
spell
it
and
the
three
branches.
But
once
I
got
here.
