NEAR is going global. To celebrate, this Town Hall is an exploration of the people and places helping the NEAR ecosystem expand in the digital world, and also IRL.

NEAR Foundation CEO Marieke Flament kicks things off by sharing the Foundation’s progress towards bringing the world to Web3. This is followed by Pagoda’s Head of Operations, Julie Bissinger, who will provide a snapshot overview of its recent launch.

Another big part of this month’s Town Hall will focus on how we’re helping more people learn, build, and create. NEAR Education’s Sherif Abushadi will be showcasing new and improved ways for instructors and students to learn the art of developing on NEAR. He’ll also be sharing insights into NEAR’s global education strategy.

The second edition of NEAR’s MetaBUILD hackathon is underway – and we’ve had nearly 4,000 applicants. Between now and March 3rd, 2022, judges are reviewing submissions. The winners will be announced in March.

With the events taking place in Ukraine, the original Town Hall slated for February 25th, 2022 was postponed. Instead, NEAR Foundation CEO, Marieke Flament, and Illia Polosukhin, NEAR Protocol Co-Founder, and members of the community, take a moment to address the latest events and growing concerns for the citizens of Ukraine and the global NEAR community.

Get up to speed on everything that happened in the NEAR ecosystem during the first month of the new year 2022.

The last 12 months was an incredible year for the NEAR community. The ecosystem grew at a phenomenal clip, bringing in new developers, projects and users. The NEAR Protocol was also successfully upgraded to Phase 0 of Simple Nightshade, making the blockchain faster and more robust, while keeping it carbon neutral.

“At NEAR, we believe in a world where people can control their assets, their data, and their power of governance,” said Marieke Flament, NEAR Foundation’s CEO.

That vision is not only shared by everyone at NEAR Foundation, but the wider community, too. That’s why this month’s town hall was all about championing the voices and ideas from the wider ecosystem.

Team members from the Open Forest Protocol and Sankore took center stage to discuss their progress and why they chose to build on NEAR.

NEAR Co-Founder Illia Polosukhin closed the Town Hall with an update on the MetaBUILD hackathon.

In this Town Hall, the NEAR Foundation is looking back at everything that has been achieved over the past year. The NEAR Ecosystem has grown at an unprecedented rate, while also the protocol itself saw important milestones achieved like phase 0 of the Nightshade Sharding Infrastructure.

This Town Hall starts with NEAR Foundation CEO Erik Trautman sharing the vision of the Open Web World, where people control their assets, data and power of governance. From there, Erik continues on how the NEAR Protocol empowers people to build the Open Web World on the Simple, Secure, and Scalable platform that NEAR Protocol is. NEAR Co-Founder Illia Polosukhin gives a recap of the past year in numbers and provides a comprehensive overview of everything that happened in the ecosystem. After Illia announces the new MetaBUILD 2 Hackathon, he introduces Head of Global Brand and Partnerships Chris Ghent and Founder of Mintbase Nate Geier to talk about Mintbase and the recent partnership with Deadmau5.

This NEAR Town Hall features Sasha Hudzilin from Human Guild, Riqi Ra from Paras Digital, and Jonathan Dunlap from Mintgate.

The Human Guild wants every human to be rewarded for bringing their creations to the world. Human Guild is helping to develop the Gaming ecosystem on the NEAR Protocol with dozens of projects.

Paras is a blockchain-based NFT Marketplace for card collectibles. In this Town Hall, Paras Founder Riqi looks back on recent developments and growth and looks forward to what’s coming in the future. Riqi has seen NFTs developing from Digital Art to Games, Films and Comics and expects that NFTs will deliver utility to many more sectors in the future.

Mintgate is building out the NFT infrastructure on NEAR by providing a no-code store builder for NFTs and token gated content.

In this Town Hall, the NEAR Foundation is celebrating the 1 year mainnet anniversary, the launch of the Rainbow Bridge and is announcing the upcoming EVM on NEAR called Aurora.

NEAR Protocol’s mainnet has been live for one year now, NEAR Co-Founder Illia Polosukhin looks back on the evolution of the mainnet. The mainnet has been fully community-governed for 6 months and keeps on getting more decentralized. The on-chain statistics also show very strong growth and more and more adoption of the network.

NEAR Foundation CEO Erik Trautman further explains what NEAR is and what it empowers.
“NEAR is the infrastructure for innovation which powers creators, communities, and financial markets to drive a more open, interconnected and consumer-empowered world.” This is followed by a rundown of what the creator economy is, and how that translates to the NEAR Protocol.

This Town Hall closes with the launch of the Rainbow Bridge, presented by Rainbow Bridge Project Manager Alex Shevchenko. The Rainbow Bridge is a tool for interaction between Ethereum and NEAR, allowing users to transfer Ethereum tokens from the Ethereum network to the NEAR Protocol. After the Rainbow Bridge presentation Alex announces the upcoming EVM on NEAR called Aurora. The Town Hall is concluded with an AMA with Illia, Erik and Alex.

This Town Hall provides an overview of where NEAR is coming from, where NEAR is now and where NEAR is going.

NEAR has gone through a lot of changes, the original idea for NEAR was to be an AI project slated to launch on Ethereum. When NEAR Co-Founders Illia Polosukhin and Alex Skidanov realized that Ethereum wouldn’t be able to scale to sustain their project, they decided to shift focus to developing their own sharded blockchain. From there, the story evolved into what NEAR is now.

This inaugural Town Hall for the NEAR Community kicks off with NEAR Foundation CEO Erik Trautman, providing an introduction on what NEAR is, how the NEAR Foundation is supporting NEAR’s development and what the current main goals for NEAR Foundation are.

NEAR Co-Founder Illia Polosukihin lays out the three stages in which NEAR Protocol is being rolled out and what the current status of the project is. Lately, the main focus has been around the distribution of the NEAR Token, which will officially start from today. The tokens can be delegated to validators to start securing the network immediately.

Head of DevRel Peter DePaulo continues with an update on the developer relations department and in which way you can start contributing to the development of NEAR Protocol.

Mintbase Co-Founders Nate Geier and Carolin Wend showcase the Mintbase NFT Platform and explain what utility can be expected of NTFs in the future.

Flux Protocol Co-Founder Peter Mitchell presents what the Flux application does and why Peter chose NEAR Protocol to develop on.
