A
A
So
there's
they
come
with
high
bandwidth
network
interfaces
and
we
also
have
partnerships
with
various
other
goe
labs
and
other
major
facilities
where
we
transfer
data
we
monitor
and
chance
for
data
between
them
and
make
sure
that
the
rates
stay
high
and
our
data
transfers
are
optimized
between
these
centers
so
on
these
DT
ends,
you'll
have
access
to
every
global
nurse
file
system.
So
this
is
the
project
file
system.
These
are
homes.
This
is
HP
SS
and
kori.
A
Scratch
can
be
accessed
on
these
DTN
nodes
and
you
can
use
these
either
to
move
data
internally
between
their
systems
and
in
between
there's
HP
s
and
nurse
HP,
SS
and
but
they're
primarily
used
to
move
large
volumes
of
data
into
and
out
of
nurse.
So
if
you
have
a
large
data
set,
that's
at
some
other
do
a
lab
or
at
your
home
institution
you
need
to
move
them
in
you're,
most
likely
going
to
come
in
via
these
DTN
nodes.
A
So
the
recommended
tool
that
we
use
that
we
suggest
for
moving
large
volumes
of
data
is
Globus
online.
Have
any
of
you
guys
use
Globus,
ok,
so
at
least
you're
familiar
with
it.
It
has
a
really
nice
UI
and
it
takes
care
of
a
lot
of
the
kind
of
nitty
gritty
details
of
data
transfer.
It
just
optimizes
them
for
you.
So
it's
really
nice
to
use.
A
If
you
like,
you
can
just
point
your
browser
at
dub,
dub,
dub,
Globus,
org,
and
then
once
you
go
in
there,
you
can
authenticate
with
your
nurse
credentials
we'll
talk
about
that
more
in
a
little
it,
but
it
has
this
nice
GUI.
That
comes
up,
it
does
automatic
retries
for
failed
transfers,
automatic
parallel
striping
for
large
files,
so
you'd
have
to
worry
about.
You
know,
setting
the
granularity
of
your
transfers
and
then
it'll
send
you
an
email
when
it's
finished
in,
let
you
know
whether
it's
irrevocably
failed
or
succeeded.
Most
of
time'
succeeds.
A
A
A
You
can
also
set
up
an
endpoint
on
your
own
laptop
with
this
globus
connect
server.
If
you
wanted
to
transfer
stuff
more
locally,
so
these
are
their
managed
Globus
endpoints
for
most
use
cases,
you're,
probably
going
to
find
that
you'll
be
able
to
serve
this
with
the
nerdy
TN
endpoint.
We
have
three
other
endpoints
that
are
first
sort
of
special
use
cases.
A
The
first
is
the
nurse
HP
SS
endpoint.
This
is
what
you
would
use
if
you
wanted
to
do,
transfers
via
Globus
directly
into
and
out
of
HP
SS,
and
then
we
have
an
Edison
endpoint.
This
is
only
if
you
need
to
transfer
data
from
Edison
scratch.
This
is
the
only
endpoint
that
it
has
that
has
access
to
Edison
scratch,
and
then
we
have
a
dedicated
one
for
PDS
F,
which
is
for,
if
you're
doing
transfer
for
the
local
storage
from
from
stuff.
That's
look
called
only
to
PDS
F.
We
have
a
couple
other
endpoints.
A
A
You
can
log-in
either
with
the
globus
ID
or
you
can
use
the
nurse.
There's
a
pulldown
menu
and
it'll.
Tell
you
all
the
different
various
institutions
that
allow
authentication
via
Globus.
So
you
can
choose
nurse
from
this
and
then
hit
continue.
You'll
be
hit
with
this
little
page
where
it
wants
your
nurse,
username
and
password.
You
go
ahead
and
fill
that
in
once
you
do
that
then
it'll
bring
you
to
this
page,
which
is
the
this.
Is
the
GUI
that
she'll
be
working
with
most
of
time
when
you're
transferring
files?
A
So
you
can.
You
can
also
click
on
endpoints
if
you
want
it
to
look
at
what
they
are,
so
there's
a
whole
bunch
of
tabs.
If
you
go
back
here,
you
can
see
how
there's
these
different
tabs
here,
transfer
files
activity
endpoints
most
the
time
you'll
be
in
the
transfer
files.
Sometimes
you'll
go
to
activity
and
that'll
show
you
the
various
tasks
that
you
have
waiting.
If
you
want
to
look
at
how
things
are
going,
then
you
can
look
at
our
endpoints
there.
A
So
if
you
go
to
the
endpoints
tab
and
you
select
search
all
and
type
in
nurse
you'll
see
all
the
options
come
up.
It'll
tell
you
whether
or
not
you've
activated
them,
which
is
fairly
simple
to
do
you
just
put
in
the
name
of
the
endpoint
nurse
DTM
that
you
want
to
activate
and
then
it'll
give
you
this
prompt
and
you'll
activate
it
with
your
nurse
username
and
password
the
default
activation
time
is
12
hours.
A
You
can
ask
for
more,
you
can
go
up
to
277
and
it's
just
basically
because
we
don't
want
to
have
live
credentials
sitting
around
being
unused.
So
that's
why
there's
just
time
limit?
That's
why
you
have
to
activate
every
so
often
so,
once
you
do
that,
then
it
starts
out.
It
shows
you
goes
as
endpoint.
It
shows
you
everything,
that's
in
your
your
home
directory
and
you
can
use
you
can
either
navigate
by
clicking
or
you
can
fill
in
this
path.
A
So
to
transfer
files
you
navigate
on
the
left
hand,
side
to
the
files
or
directories
that
you
want
to
transfer
and
then,
on
the
right
hand,
side
you
fill
in
the
destination,
so
this
could
be
another
do
endpoint.
This
could
be
inside
of
nurse.
If
you
wanted,
it
could
be
an
end
point
on
your
laptop
and
then
you
tell
it
the
path
you
highlight
what
you
want
to
transfer
over
there
and
you
just
click
the
big
blue
arrow,
and
then
this
little
box
will
come
up
and
says
we're
starting
the
transfer.
A
B
B
B
A
Those
pretty
notorious
for
throttling
transfers
of
all
kinds,
even
for
email,
so
yeah.
A
Yeah,
so
we
also
have
you
can
also
log
on
to
these
DT
NS
directly.
If
you
need
direct
access,
it's
got
a
pretty
familiar
module
environment.
So,
if
you
needed
to
like
let's
say
you
wanted
to
do
like
a
move
or
something
and
you
didn't
want
to,
it
was
small
enough.
You
didn't
really
need
to
go
through
Globus
or
anything
like
that.
You
could
log
on
to
the
DT
ends
and
do
it
there.
A
So
this
is
a
section,
okay,
so
transferring
inside
of
nurse
to
HP
SS.
So
we
talked
about
this
a
little
bit
earlier.
It's
a
tape
system,
it
sort
of
has
a
sort
of
an
interface
a
little
bit
like
an
object
store.
You
do
a
put
and
a
get
to
get
things
in
and
out,
so
you
can
either
use
the
DT
NS
to
move
data
to
and
from
nurse
to
the
file
systems,
or
you
can
use
the
x4q.
A
That
kind
of
depends
on
the
length
of
time
that
you're
running
and
what
you're
looking
for,
and
you
can
also
use
Globus
to
do
this.
The
only
caveat
here
is
that
Globus
doesn't
support
aggregating
files.
So
if
you
went
to
your
Globus
directory
and
you
had
10,000
sub
files
in
there
and
you
tried
to
transfer
that
into
HP
SS,
you
will
get
a
ping
from
us
saying
that
you
are
putting
a
bunch
of
small
files
into
HP
SS
and
we
need
you
to
bundle
them
up.
A
So
if
you
have
a
large
amount
of
data
that
needs
to
be
transferred
or
something
that
you
don't
feel
like
monitoring,
we
really
recommend
you
use
Globus
online.
If
you
can,
if
you
have
something
smaller,
you
know
you
can
just
do
like
a
just
a
secure
copy
between
systems.
If
you
don't
feel
like
dealing
with
Globus.
The
only
thing
we
ask
is
that
you
reserve
the
DTN
nodes
just
for
data
transfer
stuff.
Don't
you
have
a
workflow
thing
that
you
need
to
run?
A
We
have
a
different
place
where
that
should
be
so
just
reach
out
to
us
and
we'll
open
that
up
for
you
and,
if
you're,
just
trying
to
transfer
within
the
nurse
file
system.
So
you
could
just
go
with
a
plain
CP
I've,
actually
seen
a
lot
of
people
be
fairly
happy
with
using
like
let's
say
you
have
a
couple.
Terabytes
of
data
you
want
to
move
from
scratch
to
project
a
lot
of
people,
will
fire
up
Globus
and
it's
really
nice
because
of
the
retries
and
the
parallel
file
transfer,
even
within
the
center.
A
So
some
things
to
think
about
in
terms
of
performance,
most
of
the
time
when
we
find
that
users
are
writing
in
seeing
slow
transfers,
it's
often
limited
by
the
remote
endpoint.
So
if
you
you
can
imagine
if
you're
going
from
our
high
speed
DNS
to
university
to
your
house,
maybe
to
your
Wi-Fi
to
your
laptop,
the
slowest
point
is
going
to
be
somewhere
in
that
Wi-Fi
chain,
maybe
you're
on
your
laptop.
A
So
if
you
can,
if
you
have
access
to
two
performant
endpoints,
that's
really
the
best
way
to
move
a
lot
of
data
around
you
sometimes
can
run
into
problems
where
the
file
system
is
particularly
slow.
We
might
be
having
a
file
system
issue
which
case
it's
usually
a
transient
problem.
You'll
come
back
and
run
the
transfer
tomorrow
and
it'll
be
very
quick.
A
A
A
So
we
touched
about
talked
about
this
earlier.
If
you
had
a
bunch
of
data
that
you
wanted
to
share
in
sort
of
a
general
way,
you
can
create
inside
of
your
project
directory
a
dub
dub
dub
directory,
and
then
you
can
make
anything
in
their
world
readable,
and
then
this
will
give
you
a
portal
interface
that
go-to
portal
that
nurse
gov
project
your
project,
name
and
it'll-
show
whatever
is
in
that
directory.
