Today,
as
six
more
weeks
of
winter,
is
predicted,
we
are
mindful
of
those
in
our
communities
who
are
struggling
to
find
warmth
and
housing.
Work
and
food
guide
this
assembly
in
their
work,
to
help
improve
life
for
the
residents
of
our
state,
grant
them
wisdom
and
discernment,
as
they
ponder
new
laws,
help
them
to
listen
and
to
learn
from
one
another
and
bring
among
them
a
spirit
of
collegiality
and
cooperation,
keep
them
safe
from
all
harm,
bless
them
their
families
and
all
whom
they
serve.

Assuming
one
binary
thompson,
I'm
going
to
make
some
remarks
once
we
get
sergeant
armstaff
here.
So
if
you
want
to
go
ahead
and
do
the
other
order
of
business
15.
A
A
A
A
Robin
gave
us
many
reasons
to
laugh
with
him
too.
He
was
well
known
for
his
pranks
and
was
particularly
good
at
playing
the
long
game.
Many
of
the
staff
and
legislators
in
the
building
have
stories
about
how
robin
would
build
up
for
weeks.
What
turned
out
to
be
a
prank
then
revealed
the
joke
with
a
hearty
laugh,
robin
joined
the
sergeant-at-arms
office
in
2001
and
immediately
professionalized
it.
He
wanted
the
office
to
reflect
the
seriousness
of
the
work
done
here.
A
He
proudly
upheld
the
traditions
of
the
assembly
and
represented
this
house
with
distinction
and
honor
both
here
and
nationally.
We
will
all
smile
when
we
hear
our
friend
call
us
into
the
chamber.
He
loves
so
much.
He
was
truly
the
heart
and
soul
of
this
chamber,
robin
passed
away
peacefully.
Last
night,
from
covet
19
at
home,
surrounded
by
his
wife
and
two
sons,
we
will
celebrate
robin's
life
later
in
the
session
when
his
family
can
also
join
us.
A
So
we
wanted
to
thank
the
sergeant-at-arms
staff
and
and
sergeant
arms
robin
and
his
family
for
generously
letting
him
be.
Such
a
wonderful
part
of
this
institution.
C
Thank
you
so
much,
mr
speaker.
Under
order
business
15,
I
know
that
we
are
going
to
be
celebrating
the
wonderful
and
rich
life
of
mr
bates
at
another
time
with
his
family
present,
but
I
did
just
want
to
put
on
the
record
how
deep
our
sympathy
runs
for
his
family
and
friends,
and
we
know
we
have.
He
has
family
and
friends
who
are
present
here,
family
that
might
be
watching,
but
also
other
friends
that
are
out
there.
C
I
saw
him
defuse
situations
that
could
have
easily
become
pretty
pretty
pretty
unsavory,
but
pretty
rowdy
pretty
loud,
and
it
was
because
of
his
demeanor,
always
kind
and
always
respectful.
C
I'd
look
forward
to
celebrating
him
later,
but
I
would
just
be
remissed
if
I,
if
I
didn't
put
those
a
couple
of
those
comments
on
the
record,
because
he
wasn't
just
a
sergeant-at-arms,
he
was
a
friend
and-
and
I
am
so
sorry
for
what
you
all
are
feeling
today.
I'm
sorry
that
we
had
to
wake
up
to
this
news.
C
Thank
you,
mr
speaker,
seeing
no
other
comments
before
us.
I
would
move
that
we
adjourn
in
the
memory
of
our
sergeant
of
arms,
mr
robin
bates,
and
that
we
stand
no
it's
okay
and
that
we
adjourn
until
thursday
february
4th
2021
at
the
hour
of
11
30
a.m.
