E
E
With
me
today
is
director
Brenda
Brenda
scalari,
who
serves
as
the
Director
of
Nevada's
Department
of
Tourism
and
cultural
affairs
and
is
a
Cabinet
member
for
the
Lombardo
Administration.
She
supervises
the
division
of
Tourism,
the
division
of
museums
and
history,
the
Nevada
Arts
Council,
the
Nevada
Indian
commission
and
Nevada
magazine
prior.
She
served
as
deputy
director
leading
the
marketing
public
relations
and
the
sales
and
Industry
Partners
teams.
She
was
also
the
chief
marketing
officer
overseeing
travel,
Nevada's,
award-winning,
creative
and
media
strategy
and
Native
nevadan.
E
Her
30-year
career
as
a
marketing
professional
has
included
a
broad
spectrum
of
creative
and
digital
development
in
both
the
public
and
private
sectors.
She
currently
serves
as
a
board
member
of
the
U.S
travel
Association,
the
western
states,
tourism
policy,
Council
Reno,
Tahoe's,
Regional,
Air,
Services,
Corporation
and
The
Advisory
board
on
outdoor
recreation.
I
would
appreciate
it
if
we
would
all
welcome
director
Scolari
here
to
the
senate
floor.
E
Thank
you.
I
also
had
the
pleasure
of
serving
with
the
director
on
the
commission
on
tourism
prior
to
serving
in
the
state
senate.
Now
we
also
have
a
proclamation
to
present
to
Ms
scalari
today
in
honor
of
Tourism
day
at
the
legislature,
so
I'd
like
to
take
a
moment
to
talk
a
bit
about
the
tourism
industry
and
the
role
of
the
Department
of
Tourism
and
cultural
affairs
in
2021
Nevada
welcomed
more
than
43.2
million
visitors.
Direct
spending
was
39.4
billion
across
Nevada's
economy.
E
These
are
two
of
just
many
statistics
that
demonstrate
why
tourism
means
more
as
the
chief
marketing
officer
for
tourism,
the
Department's
mission
is
to
effectively
promote
Statewide
tourism
to
enhance
the
economic
Vitality
of
Nevada.
It's
a
mission
that
the
department
does
not
take
lightly,
as
tourism
employs
more
than
355
000
people
who
rely
on
it
for
their
livelihood.
A
number
that
is
that
represents
more
than
19
percent
of
all
jobs
in
the
state
and
tourism
does
not
just
affect
metropolitan
areas.
E
The
department
is
seeing
more
and
more
visitors
take
road
trips
through
the
state
and
they're
stopping
in
our
rural
destinations
to
experience
all
Nevada
has
to
offer
funded
solely
by
3
8
of
1
percent
of
the
state
lodging
tax
the
department
works
to
defend,
strengthen
and
expand
the
industry
year
over
year.
Furthermore,
the
department
is
one
of
the
only
state
entities
to
generate
money
for
the
general
fund
each
year
without
drawing
any
money
from
it
to
learn
more
about
the
impact
of
Tourism
on
our
great
state.
E
A
M
M
The
lieutenant
governor
serves
as
chairman
of
the
commission
on
tourism,
and
he
had
some
prepared
remarks.
I'd
like
to
read
as
chairman
of
the
Nevada
Commission
on
tourism,
I'm
honored,
to
assist
our
state's
efforts
to
promote
travel
to
and
within
Nevada
Nevada's
economy
relies
heavily
on
the
thriving
tourism
industry
and
the
tax
revenues
generated
from
such
travel
and
tourism
help
support
essential
services
for
our
valued
residents.
So
today,
on
tourism
day,
I
want
to
thank
those
who
work
so
hard
to
make
Nevada
a
top
destination,
sincerely
lieutenant
governor
Stavros
Anthony.
Thank
you
better.
President
foreign.
H
Pro
tem
I
want
to
welcome
everyone
to
a
the
be
a
sweetheart
for
school
choice,
rally
which
will
be
out
front
after
this
floor
session
and
at
that
rally
we're
going
to
have
members
of
the
Charter
School
Association
and
some
of
the
local
schools,
Legacy
Christian
Academy,
Newton,
learning,
center
Bishop
and
Oak
Doral
Academy,
which
is
a
charter
school
in
Northern
Nevada
and
several
others.
So
we'd
love
for
you
to
join
us.
Thank
you.
D
D
I
love
being
from
Nevada
I
love
being
able
to
kind
of
see
all
of
the
beautiful
things
that
we
have
here
in
our
state,
because
I
think
sometimes
those
are
overlooked.
And
so,
when
we
think
about
tourism,
we
certainly
should
think
of
my
hometown
in
Las
Vegas
for
the
strip
and
all
of
the
The
Destination
type
events
that
occur
there.
D
But
we
should
also
think
about
the
rest
of
our
state
because
it
truly
is
beautiful
and
for
anyone
who
hasn't
taken
an
opportunity
to
get
out
there
and
see
what
Nevada
has
to
offer
I
would
highly
encourage
it.
I
think
if
you
stop
by
the
booths
that
my
colleague
mentioned
on
the
second
and
third
floor,
you
will
get
to
see
all
of
those
things
plus
all
the
amazing
museums.
The
Nevada
State
Museum
is
just
down
the
road.
D
Last
week,
on
his
birthday,
when
we
were
all
here
together,
which
I
strongly
encourage
that
we
should,
we
should
put
forth
a
piece
of
legislation
to
exempt
him
from
having
to
work
on
his
birthday
because
I
feel
like
it
may
happen
very
frequently.
But
we
are
very
grateful
for
all
of
your
work
for
making
sure
that
that
we
can
do
our
jobs
here
and
just
want
to
wish
you
a
very
happy
birthday
if
everyone
could
join
me
in
Wishing
our
secretary,
a
very
happy
birthday.
