6 Jun 2014

Existing state of OSE's CNC Torch table from Friday, June 6, 2014. We are using a gantry as this - http://opensourceecology.org/wiki/CNC_Torch-Router_Table_2_-_Gantry_-_3D_CAD - open the STEP file in FreeCAD.

We are using the Lasersaur open source CC-BY-SA controller - it has an advanced smart phone interface. The advantage is that it is a fully open source stepper controller - the only one we know of which can handle higher current (up to 7A and scalable to more).

The description above describes how to connect wirelessly to the torch table. The Lasersaur controller uses a Beagle Bone Black. Then we cover how we connect low-cost-stepper drivers (1/3 the cost of Gecko drivers).

The advantage of using the Lasersaur Controller is that we can use the same controller both for our Lasersaur laser cutter and for our CNC torch table.

Next steps include adding automatic gas control (cuttting oxygen gas turnon) for oxyacetylene cutting, spark igniter and capacitive sensing automatic height control. And perhaps a little trimming up of wiring.
