Description
Keynote: OpenShift Everywhere: Red Hat's Hybrid Cloud Vision
Karena Angell (Red Hat)
This OpenShift Commons Gathering was held on July 6th, 2022 live in London, England
https://commons.openshift.org
A
Okay,
the
last
time
I
was
here
was
the
last
openshift
commons
in
london.
So
what
that
was
the
start
of
the
pandemic
right,
I
see
some
familiar
faces,
I'm
glad
to
see
everybody's
joining
again
and
to
give
you
if
you
haven't
been
a
part
of
openshift
commons,
to
give
you
an
idea
of
what
openshift
commons
is.
A
Now
my
name
is
karina.
I
am
an
openshift
product
manager,
I'm
on
the
product
management
team,
and
we
have
a
couple
others
here
today
too,
from
the
product
management
team.
You'll
hear
from
them
later
now,
there's
a
qr
code
up
there.
If
you
want
to
scan
it,
if
you're
not
part
of
commons
scan
it
join
us,
we
have
slack.
We
have
these
gatherings.
We
also
have
briefings
so
so
many
different
ways
to
get
involved
make
sure
you
are
involved.
A
Now
we
have
such
a
packed
agenda
again.
We
have
product
management,
we
have
lightning
talks
from
our
partners
and
stick
around
towards
the
end
of
the
day.
We
have
an
ama
session,
so
live
q,
a
where
you
can
so
keep
your
questions
in
mind.
Ask
them
at
the
end
of
the
day,
okay,
I'm
going
to
do
a
show
of
hands,
we'll
just
get
a
little
warm
up
here.
I
won't
make
you
stand
up
it's
still
too
early
in
the
day
everybody's.
A
I
would
hope
so
right
what
about
10
years?
A
I
I'm
embarrassed
to
say
I
am
thank
you
now.
This
is
great
35
40.
A
All
right
now
I
started
in
tech
when
I
was
14..
I
was
writing
and
editing
manuals
user
guides
for
hierarchical
storage
management
software.
So
those
of
you
that
have
been
in
tech
forever,
yeah
and
so
from
there
we've
had
such
an
evolution,
but
not
only
an
evolution.
A
A
Some
of
the
systems
are
still
around
like
20
years
later,
but
walking
in
and
you
see
you
know
a
wall
of
two
terabyte
hard
drives
right.
They're
still
around
go
in
and
set
up,
mainframes
they're
still
around
right.
A
A
A
A
So
as
we're
trying
to,
as
we
think
about
each
different
platform
that
comes
in
each
different
application
that
comes
in
the
reality
is,
is
that
it's
hard
to
get
rid
of
the
old
ones?
It's
hard
to
move
to
the
new
ones,
the
new
cloud
native
technologies?
Unless
it's
a
green
field
right,
sometimes
it's
easier
just
standing
up
something
new,
but
the
reality
is
that
we
have
so
many
different
technologies
different
run
times,
different
workloads
right.
A
So
that
brings
us
to
our
red
hat.
Oh,
if
you
saw
the
notes
you'd,
be
you
see
how
I'm
looking
at
this,
but
jumping
ahead.
So
that
brings
us
to
the
challenge
of
hybrid
cloud.
So
what
we're
talking
about
is
red,
hat's
vision
for
hybrid
cloud,
and
so
the
challenge
is:
is
that
as
we
come
as
we
see
all
these
disparate
platforms,
all
these
different
applications,
it
turns
out
that
most
companies
are
actually
hybrid.
Most
companies
are
hybrid
by
accident.
A
A
A
And
so
to
meet
this
vision,
the
goal
is
to
be
able
to
deliver
consistency,
flexibility
and
scalability.
So
between
your
traditional
applications,
your
cloud
native
and
then
newer
workloads.
I
mentioned
that
it's
hard
to
get
rid
of
the
old,
and
sometimes
it
doesn't
make
sense
to
refactor,
even
though
we
want
to
so.
We
need
to
provide
ways
to
enable
you
to
move
old
technology
into
your
new
technology
in
a
way
that
makes
sense,
and
we
need
to
make
sure
that
this
is
consistent
across
your
platforms
right
and
we
talk
about.
A
A
A
And
then
we
as
red
hat,
we
build
on
it
right.
We
look
at
the
different
projects,
we're
involved
in
the
different
projects
and
we're
very
prescriptive
right.
We
moved
to
openshift
four,
which
is
based
on
core
os
right,
got
more
prescriptive
and
we
also
are
incredibly
involved
in
strimsy
just
to
name
a
few.
The
operator
framework
helm
mentioned
the
operator
framework
because
martin
hickey
will
be
here
talking
about
operatives
later
and
he's
also
a
helm
contributor.
So
our
maintainer,
I
should
say
you
know
rook
cni.
A
A
A
So
cryo
we
are
moving
working
on
moving
to
graduation
key
cloak
identity
management,
that's
another
one
that
we
are
also
right
now
doing
due
diligence
to
move
to
incubation
in
cncf
and
donate
it.
We're
also
actively
involved
in
k,
native
and
istio.
Now
both
were
just
announced
to
be
transferred
to
the
cncf.
A
A
A
Maybe
one
line
of
business
is
aks
eks,
maybe
another
one's
open
shift.
Now
we
don't
want
to
say,
hey
sorry,
you
can
only
manage
your
openshift
clusters
now
we
allow
you
to
manage
others
right
so
consistent
deployment,
but
also
consistent
management,
and
that's
really
important
too,
for
your
operations.
Teams.
A
A
And
now,
if
you
are
in
say
a
financial
field
or
a
telco
or
any
enterprise,
really
you're
going
to
worry
about
security
and
governance,
so
those
are
also
key
and
we
have
a
lot
of
work.
We
are
doing
a
lot
of
work
to
make
sure
that
you
can
meet
your
compliance,
needs
you'll,
hear
about
some
of
that
in
the
roadmap
session.
A
A
A
A
A
A
A
A
So
openshift
is
built
for
operations,
it's
built
for
developers
and
it's
built
for
the
business
leaders.
I
mentioned
that
each
line
of
business
sometimes
is
so
different
from
the
others.
Each
application
group
has
different
technologies
than
the
others.
So
really
we
talk
a
lot
about
modernization.
We
talk
a
lot
about
digital
transformation,
but
that's
going
to
mean
something
else
for
each
of
your
teams.
