The Election Compliance Audit Committee is an arm’s length City of Ottawa Committee and does not report to Ottawa City Council. Election Compliance Audit Committee reviews applications for compliance audits of the election campaign finances of candidates and registered third-party advertisers and considers report(s) from the City Clerk and Solicitor on apparent contraventions of contribution limits.

This
committee
hereby
decides
not
to
command
legal
proceeding
again
to
contributor
for
an
apparent
contravention
of
the
provision
of
the
municipal
election
act,
1996
relating
to
the
election
campaign
finance.
While
the
committee
recognized
that
there
has
been
an
apparent
breach
of
the
end,
the
committee
accepted
the
contributor
and
met
the
overpayment
and
attributes
the
excess
payment
to
being
unaware
of
the
limit
imposed
by
section
88.9
bracket
4
of
the
municipal
election
act.
He
indicates
further
that
had
he
known
of
the
contribution
limit,
he
would
have
complied
with
it.

Hidden
and
supporting
this
omission
is
found
in
the
fact
that
the
contributor
complied
with
the
other
monetary
limit
and
contribution
to
individual
candidate
in
the
act
that
he
was
aware
of.
Recent
changes
in
the
municipal
election
act
requiring
a
report
by
the
clerk
to
this
committee
has
focused
attention
on
the
size
of
contribution
to
two
or
more
the
date,
and
it
is
believable
in
that
circumstances
than
the
contributors.

publicity
relating
to
these
hearings
will
increase
awareness
of
gee
aggregate,
a
contribution
limit
and
act
as
a
sufficient
deterrent
in
future
elections

compliance
with
the
aims
of
the
little
agent
may
better
be
achieved
by
educating
then
further
legal
proceedings.
