Description
Finance and Economic Development Committee meeting – July 5, 2016 – Audio Stream
Agenda and background materials can be found at http://www.ottawa.ca/agendas.
A
A
This
is
the
Beggs
and
heads
levy
carried
economic
development
branch.
We
have
a
presentation
by
sad
Beshear
on
that
Ottawa
tours
and
summits.
We
have
a
brief
presentation
by
Councillor
clits
here
we'll
get
to
that
after
we
do
a
consent
agenda.
Thank
you
sparks
late
BIA
and
mall
authority
governance
review
carried.
Thank
you.
Thank
you
to
staff
for
your
on
that
lines.
Down
partnership
annual
report.
We
have
two
presentations,
we'll
come
back
to
that.
Planning
and
infrastructure,
urbanism
infrastructure
brownfield
grant
program,
application,
245,
Rideau,
Street
Demond
that
I
cover
the
program.
A
They
don't
Sanks
it'll
cats,
ain't
promenade
in
a
vast
show,
carried
I
have
a
motion
on
behalf
of
2017
that
the
rules
be
suspended
due
to
potential
need
to
finalize
degrees
over
the
summer
on
encroachment
on
suspension
carry
so
basically,
this
motion
is
from
time
to
time
over
the
course
of
the
summer
a
good
example
in
councillor.
Cloutier
knows
we
have
this
lemma
shin,
for
instance,
which
is
this
gigantic
dragon
and
spider.
That's
coming
down
Wellington
Street
from
time
to
time
it
will
be
stopping
on
certain
locations.
A
That
would
technically
be
an
encroachment,
but
it's
part
of
a
show.
Another
example
is
we
have
displays
by
provinces
and
the
the
median
in
the
Byward
market.
We
want
them
to
be
open
to
the
public
at
many
hours
as
possible
as
a
free
service.
So
this
is
a
way
to
basically
save
boy
through
a
whole
encroachment
process.
So
I
can
read
the
whole
thing.
I
don't
know:
does
everyone
have
a
copy
of
this?
A
Whereas
in
order
to
be
successful,
a
number
of
the
aforementioned
activities
will
require
access
to
city
properties,
including
parking
spaces
and
services
which
may
be
subject
to
fees
and
charges
such
as
those
related
to
encroachment,
whereas
the
city,
whereas
to
ensure
the
success
of
some
2017
events,
would
be
in
the
interests
of
the
city
to
provide
the
waiver.
Amendment
of
encroachment
fees
or
other
access
to
city
spaces
were
feasible
and
reasonable
to
do
so
in
a
timely
fashion,
whereas
on
May
13th
2015
council
delegated
authority
of
the
city
manager
to
enter
the
necessary
salt.
A
The
service
agreements
that
excuse
me
and
ancillary
contracts
with
celebrations
ottawa
inc
required
to
support
the
ottawa.
2017
celebrations
to
report
it
back
to
canadian
council
on
a
semi-annual
basis
and
staff
is
recommending
extending
this
delegation
as
the
most
efficient
means
of
ensuring
the
request
for
waiver
of
fees
for
encroachment
permits
and
similar
matters
do
not
become
an
unnecessary
barrier
to
the
timely
management
of
the
2017
celebrations.
A
Don't
ya?
Ok,
so
we
will
come
back.
I'm
gonna!
Ask
these.
We
have
a
colleague
here,
counselor
cute
CA.
Excuse
me
before
we
get
to
the
first
item:
item
3!
Well,
actually,
we
have
yeah
well,
I.
Think
we'll
go
with
with
current,
with
concurrence,
will
do
the
tourism
summit
and
then
Lansdowne
and
then
go
to
sad
Bashir,
because
we
have
outside
guests
at
the
Lansdowne
event,
so
counselor
Cloutier.
As
you
know,
I
appointed
to
chair
the
Ottawa
tourism
summit,
which
was
a
very,
very
positive
experience.
A
There
were
over
I
think
250
people
at
the
Shaw
Center.
It
was
coordinated
through
economic
development
as
well
as
the
Economic
Club
of
Ottawa,
and
we
had
all
over
the
major
tourism
players
there,
plus
many
from
other
jurisdictions,
including
Quebec,
City
and
Toronto,
and
the
information
is
in
your
package,
but
I
asked
health
Sirk
Lucia
to
come
and
give
an
overview
from
his
capacities,
chair
of
that
and
how
that
ties
into
2017,
because
the
summit
was
held
so
that
we
don't
have
what's
called
a
tourism
hangover
in
2018.
A
B
Mayor,
thank
you
very
much.
It
was
an
honor
to
to
serve
as
chair
of
the
tourism
summit
and
through
you
to
my
colleagues
on
fedko
and
the
residents
of
the
City
of
Ottawa
just
want
to
give
a
three-minute
summary
of
the
summit.
It
took
place
on
May
31st
at
the
Shaw
Center
attracted
275
members
of
the
and
stakeholders
of
our
local
tourism
industry.
It
was
a
sold-out
event,
it
was
a
ticketed
event
and
that
just
shows
the
very
high
interest.
As
the
mayor
said,
it
was
a
joint
effort
between
the
city
ottawa
tourism.
B
The
ottawa
got
no
Hotel
Association
and
Shaw
Center,
and
it
was
designed
for
a
tourism
sector
to
come
together
and
just
start
planning
for
how
to
maintain
the
momentum
and
the
growth
post
2017.
As
the
mayor
said,
we
don't
want
to
hang
over.
We
want
the
the
new
tourism
level
to
be
the
new
floor
of
the
of
the
tourism
activity
in
Ottawa.
The
event
started
with
the
tourism
luncheon,
the
Honourable
buy
dish.
Chatter
minister
of
small
business
and
tourism
was
present
on
behalf
of
the
Government
of
Canada
and
brought
greetings.
B
I
moderated
the
discussion
between
the
mayor
mare,
Watson
and
new,
our
tourism
president
CEO
Michael
Crockett.
They
shed
their
vision
for
the
industry.
What's
needed
to
achieve
it.
The
mavim
laksa
pleasure
pleasure
pour
on
de
la
ville
de
terroir
is
a
chaotic
Pumbaa.
Lavista
lacks
also
Bipasha
community.
She
never
let
him
in
asthmatic
lender
at
all.
The
cool
these
are
legalities.
Are
the
Santino
vacío.
B
B
The
afternoon
of
the
of
the
summit
was
the
destination
next
session.
It
looked
at
results
from
200
local
survey
participants
and
we
had
a
very
high
respondent
rate
to
see
how
we
could
improve
the
experience
of
visitors
to
Ottawa
and
just
to
let
you
know.
Overall
respondents
have
an
outstanding
perception,
a
better
perception
of
Ottawa
in
terms
of
destination,
strength
compared
to
other
cities
and,
of
course,
there's
always
areas
to
improve.
These
are
mobility
access
and
improved
pedestrian
wave
findings.
The
group
had
a
breakout
sessions.
The
results
were
shared
with
the
whole
group.
B
The
ideas
were
collected
and
will,
of
course,
influence
artists,
tourism's
Ottawa,
tourism's
long-term
strategy
and,
of
course,
individual
bent.
Businesses
that
work
in
the
tourism
sector
overall,
a
very
successful
event
that
brought
out
that
brought
the
tourism
community
together,
demonstrating
its
strengths
and
it'll
help
us,
of
course,
to
prepare
for
the
post
2017
era.
I'd
encourage
you,
as
the
mayor
said,
to
have
a
look
in
in
the
fedko
file
of
the
Ottawa
by
the
numbers
graphic
it.
It
provides
a
lot
of
information.
B
Because
it,
as
you
all
know,
I'm
sure,
tourism
is
the
third
most
important
sector
after
government
in
high
tech
employs
40,000
people
and,
of
course,
events
like
this
are
important
for
our
local
economy
and
appreciate
the
opportunity.
Mr.
mayor
and
members
of
Fecteau,
to
have
the
presented
this.
This
brief
summary
to
you.
If
there
any
questions,
I'd
be
happy
to
learn
to
answer
them.
Thank
you.
Great
are.
A
There
any
questions
for
councillor,
PJ
I,
think
maybe
just
want
one
observation
in
the
report
itself:
I'm
glad
that
they
mentioned
some
of
our
so-called
legacy
projects
like
the
Bayview
Innovation,
Center,
Arts,
Court,
Art,
Gallery
and
our
federal
partners
will
be
opening
in
2017
scattered
throughout
the
year,
not
just
on
one
day
the
science
and
tech
museum
which
opens
in
the
fall,
which
I
think
is
in
your
ear,
Ward
the
new
National
Art
Center,
the
currency
museum.
So
there
are
a
lot
of
you
know.
A
New
initiatives
and
one
of
the
things
we
heard
at
the
summit
was
in
order
to
get
a
person
who's
visited
Ottawa
to
come
back
to
Ottawa.
You
need
new
things,
and
these
are
new
institutions
that
are
going
to
be
quite
popular
and
they're
going
to
be,
as
I
said,
spread
out
throughout
the
year.
So
we
don't
have
all
of
our
visitors
just
in
July
first,
but
you
know
we
have
events
taking
place.
A
Art
arts,
court
and
art
gallery
opens
near
the
end
of
the
year
as
just
the
science
and
tech
museum
and
currency
and
NAC
opens
on
July
1st.
So
there's
there's
plenty
of
reasons
for
people
to
come
back
to
visit
Otto
on
that's
part
of
the
push
that
I
think
we
heard
from
Quebec
City,
which
had
a
very
successful
400th
anniversary
and
then
the
ripple
effect
still
remains,
because
you
know
they
brought
Red
Bull
Crashed
Ice,
which
we
now
have
in
Ottawa.
So
thank
you
very
much
for
for
doing
that.
A
I
found
it
very
enlightening
and
I
was
very
pleased
that
that
we
filled
the
room
to
capacity.
It
was
a
very
good
opportunity
to
get
a
lot
of
tourism
partners
under
one
roof
and
have
some
people
from
the
outside
tell
us
how
they
maintain
the
momentum
so
Bravo
to
you
and
the
team
now
see
on
the
report
received.
A
So
our
next
item
is
with
outside
guests
is
the
Lansdowne
partnership
plan
annual
report.
We
have
two
presentations,
one
from
Dan
Sheng,
a
general
manager,
Parks
Recreation,
and
the
second
is
from
oh
say
our
partners
at
O
sake,
Roger
greenberg
and
Bernie
ash
and
while
you're
getting
set
up
gentlemen
I
just
wanted
to
mention
a
week,
doesn't
go
by
Roger
and
Bernie
and
Dan
where
someone
doesn't
come
up
to
me-
and
you
know
thank
the
city,
it's
not
just
the
city,
it's
it's
you
folks
as
well,
but
thank
for
Landsdowne.
A
A
You
went
through
many
challenging
meetings
to
get
to
this,
but
I
think
when
you
walk
through
the
site.
You'll
see
the
place
has
come
to
life
and
we're
very
much
looking
forward
to
your
presentation
and
we
thank
you
for
the
positive
relationship
you've
developed
with
the
city
and
certainly
Dan
from
your
perspective
and
your
staffs
perspective.
I
can't
count
the
number
of
times
I've
been
to
events
at
the
horticultural
building
and
the
Aberdeen.
The
numbers
obviously
are
through
the
roof.
People
wanting
to
use
those
facilities
and
I'm
very
pleased.
I
know.
You've.
A
How
positive
that
space
has
been
both
the
water
feature
which
I
know
we're
gonna
get
stronger,
Jets,
I
think
shortly
as
well
as
the
apple
orchard,
the
community
gardens
the
green
space
people
just
picnicking,
throwing
a
frisbee
around
and
and
having
a
good
time,
and
the
children's
play
area
is
always
packed
as
it's
the
skateboard
park.
So
it's
been
I
think
better
than
what
a
lot
of
us
probably
expect
it
and
I
appreciate
all
of
the
work
that
you've
done
to
get
us
to
the
stage
and
we'll
hand
the
floor
over
to
I.
C
Thank
You
mr.
chair
members
of
the
committee,
we're
happy
to
be
here
this
morning
to
give
you
our
second
update
on
the
city
portion
of
Landesbank,
Park
I
have
with
me
Natalie.
Oh,
so
Natalie
is
the
program
manager
that
oversees
the
city
operations
at
Lansdowne
Park
this
morning.
We
want
to
talk
to
you
a
little
bit
about.
C
What's
happened
at
the
park
since
last
October,
the
last
update
we
provided,
you
was
to
September
2015,
and
so
essentially,
this
update
is
from
October
2015
until
June
of
this
year
talk
to
you
a
little
bit
about
community
use
of
the
park.
As
the
mayor
just
mentioned,
it
is
a
happening
place
with
continuous
bookings.
Talk
to
you
a
little
bit
about
direct
city
programming
that
has
started
at
the
park
as
well
as
some
of
the
special
events
that
we've
been
able
to
host,
as
some
of
them
in
partnership
with
with
friends
already
was
sake.
C
So
in
terms
of
rentals
at
Landsdowne
Park
from
last
October
to
the
end
of
June
of
this
year,
facilities
in
the
urban
park
was
hosted.
A
hundred
and
thirty
five
different
rentals
to
community
and
private
groups.
Horticultural
building
remains
the
most
popular
having
had
hosted
98
rentals,
Aberdeen
24
and
the
Great
Lawn
six.
So
it's
a
very
popular
place
in
terms
of
recorded
attendance
at
these
facilities,
we're
somewhere
close
to
three
hundred
and
fifty
thousand
people
in
in
that
span
of
time.
C
Significant
events
during
that
time
included
of
the
briar
patch
that
was
hosted
in
Aberdeen
pavilion
through
through
a
partnership
with
a
sake
the
Scottish
Society
of
Ottawa's
Hogmanay
on
New
Year's
Eve
the
second
year
that
it
was
held
that
at
the
park
to
great
success,
Dave
Smith's,
Wild,
West,
Jamboree,
fundraiser
and
the
site
is
becoming
an
extremely
popular
location
for
community
fundraisers.
The
Fort
Mac
fundraiser
that
was
just
recently
held.
C
They
st.
Patrick's
party,
Canadian
tour
festival
for
the
first
time,
with
the
help
of
our
economic
development.
Friends
were
able
to
become
a
host
site
for
the
tulip
festival,
and
that
was
a
great
success.
For
the
first
time
this
year,
just
a
note
that
also
is
our
on-site
partner,
both
in
terms
of
event,
logistics,
maintenance
support
and,
and
just
overall
partnership.
It
may
have
been
key
and
helping
us
in
all
of
these.
C
Things
are
number
of
rentals
have
tripled
from
from
the
same
period
the
previous
year,
and
that
is
really
attesting
to
the
increased
popularity
of
the
site
for
community
events
of
all
time.
It
really
is
becoming
a
gathering
place,
went
on
revenues
in
the
same
order,
have
also
tripled
and
are
now
just
shy
of
300,000
for
those
facilities.
C
Believe
I'm
out
of
sequence
here,
occupancy
of
the
horticultural
building
in
the
Aberdeen
pavilion
has
reached
54
percent,
and
that
is
an
annual
average.
We
have
to
say
in
Natalie
telling
me
this
morning
that
for
this
month
of
June,
essentially
for
the
prime
time
with
a
100
percent
occupancy,
the
June
calendar
for
both
buildings
looked
completely
full.
C
As
the
mayor
mentioned
in
his
opening
remarks,
we
now
have
a
new
commercial
tenant
at
the
front
of
Aberdeen
that
will
be
selling
Jurado
and
panini
and
those
types
of
treats,
and
we
look
forward
to
that,
bringing
new
attention
to
the
building
new
activity
around
the
site
and
we're
also
they
can
at
some
point
there
is
another
space
of
error
at
the
front
of
the
building.
That
is
also
at
Felice.
C
That
could
also
presents
some
interesting
opportunities
for
the
buildings
in
terms
of
direct
city
programs
offered
by
the
staff.
We
have
many
drop-in
free,
drop-in
programs.
The
filming
and
yoga
program
remains
very
popular,
a
variety
of
registered
programs
as
well.
We
now
have
attendance
of
close
to
3,000
registered
in
our
program,
read
and
dropping
into
our
programs
for
her
variety
of
things.
C
C
C
The
Oakdale
market
did
open
on
May
1st
of
this
year.
There
are
plans
to
expand
the
outdoor
market
at
peak
times
into
the
Aberdeen
pavilion,
which
is
an
innovation
which
hopefully
will
address
some
of
the
issues
when
they
did
reach
peak
vendor
times.
The
Christmas
market
was
a
huge
success
with
over
7,000
shoppers.
The
Sunday
winter
markets
continued
to
be
popular
with
thousand
shoppers
per
event.
And
again
you
note
that
folks,
at
our
sect,
are
critical
to
making
the
setup
and
operation
of
this
a
success
through
their
ongoing
support.
C
Winter
needed
for
the
second
year
in
a
Lansdowne
park
became
a
winter
lead
site.
We
came
back
with
with
the
popular
event
of
snow
escapes.
This
year
we
had
eight
entries
that
were
sculpted
by
teams
of
local
residents,
950
amateur
sculptures
took
took
part,
and
we
had
two
professional
sculptures
done
as
well
very
well
received.
We
had
over
5,500
visitors
for
each
week
of
the
events
that
were
held
there,
and
it
was
a
fairly
a
very
good
success.
The
skating
Court
was
critical
to
this.
C
C
C
Accordingly,
net
results
for
end
of
2015
for
the
full
year
exercise
was
a
under
spent
by
thirty
three
three,
three
hundred
and
thirty
three
thousand
dollars
looking
forward
to
what's
happening
this
year,
significant
improvements
to
Aberdeen
pavilions,
some
issues
that
need
to
be
resolved
will
be
undertaken,
notably
repairs
to
the
sprinkler
system,
to
the
floors
to
the
doors
and
windows
all
work.
That
requires
some
strategic
scheduling
around
events
that
will
that
will
happen
for
the
rest
of
the
year,
the
most
notable
being
city
folk
coming.
C
This
fall,
which
will
be
hosted
for
the
second
year
at
Lansdowne,
Park
again
and
looking
forward
to
2017
a
whole
variety
of
events,
often
in
partnership
with
those
site
hosting
events
on
in
in
their
facilities.
But
we
expect
the
part
to
be
very
busy
with
secondary
sites
for
many
of
these
events,
and
we
certainly
expect
a
great
success
of
audible.
Welcomes
the
world
an
initiative
where
local
embassies
will
be
coming
in
and
as
of
now,
we
have
36
embassies
taking
part
43
Natalie
tells
me
embassies
taking
part
throughout
2017.
C
D
Mr.
mayor
I
just
want
to
say
thank
you
for
your
kind
words
of
introduction
at
the
outset
of
the
meeting.
Certainly
much
appreciated
I'm,
frequently
there
on
site,
as
well
as
it
was
last
night
and
showing
a
guest
from
Toronto
around
and
and
and
all
the
activities,
and
you
know
everyone's
always
amazed
by
what
we've
done
and
I
I.
D
I
reflect
being
at
this
very
table
several
years
ago
as
we're
in
the
planning
stages
and
one
of
the
council
colleagues
who's
not
on
current
council,
but
was
remarking
that
he
couldn't
support
the
plan
because
he
didn't
know
if
it
was
the
best
plan
possible.
I
didn't
really
have
a
response,
because
I
don't
know
how
you
ever
say
that
the
best
plan
is
what
yeah
before
you
cuz.
Somebody
may
come
up
with
something
better
the
next
day,
so
we
persevered
and
I
think
we
can
all
say
that
we're
we're
glad
that
we
did.
D
You
know,
as
we
go
through
our
report
now
with
Bernie,
which
we'll
focus
a
little
bit
more
on
some
of
the
financial
numbers
and
other
activities,
but
we
know
that
there
are
still
things
that
need
to
be
improved
and
we
are
continuing
to
deal
with
issues
within
the
old
Civic
Center's.
Some
of
us
still
call
it
the
arena,
and
there
there
are
issues
in
there
that
we're
continuing
to
deal
with
it's
a
it's,
a
it's
an
older
building
and
their
issues
on
the
site
that
continuously
amaze
us.
D
You
know
that
that
that
come
out
of
the
blue,
the
diplomatic
corps,
don't
want
to
be
particularly
helpful
with
with
parking
from
time
to
time.
These
are
issues
that
that
come
up
and
anti
Bernie
I
just
want
to
say
Bernie
and
there's
other
colleagues
back
here.
Marg,
Aldi
and
Stephanie's,
Busan
and-
and
you
know,
are
working
very
very
hard
to
whenever
issues
come
up.
D
D
Already
this
season
were
double
the
number
of
players
on
our
injured
list,
and
yet
we're
still
continuing
to
have
a
very,
very
strong
team
and
we're
putting
you
know
pride
for
the
CFL
back
into
into
Auto
were
as
one
of
the
model
franchises
in
the
league,
so
we're
continuing
to
work
on
all
the
activities
in
67's
and
and
and
and
the
fury
as
well
as
well
as
everything
that's
taking
place
on
Lansdowne.
So
Bernie's
going
to
go
through
a
more
fulsome
presentation
and
then
we're
both
happy
to
take
questions
at
the
end.
E
E
E
Today
we
will
update
you
on
the
2015
year.
We've
had
many
success
stories
at
TD,
Place
and
Lansdowne.
In
our
short
time
of
operation,
we
will
update
on
our
collaboration
in
city.
Run
programming
will
provide
a
financial
update.
Both
the
vibin
video
condo
towers
are
now
complete.
I
will
update
the
occupancy
and
on
the
office
building
on
Bank
Street
will
review
our
ongoing
transportation
success
story
and
I'll
give
you
an
update
on
some
community
initiatives
and
a
number
of
jobs
that
we
have
created,
that
Lansdowne
2015
rosy
of
transition
for
Lansdowne.
E
The
stories
of
construction
in
2014
are
now
behind
us.
We
are
still
in
start-up
mode
as
new
retailers,
open
and
condo
owners
take
occupancy.
Approximately
2.5
million
people
visited
the
site
in
2015
a
number
that
we
are
very
proud
of.
Our
sports
teams,
the
redblacks
fury
FC
and
ottawa
67's
all
exceeded
expectations
in
2015.
E
What
a
year
we
reach
the
Grey
Cup
for
the
Red
Box,
the
Soccer
Bowl
for
the
fury
in
the
67
s
returned
to
the
playoffs
Ottawa
gained
a
national
reputation
for
exceptional
fan,
experience
and
that's
not
just
about
winning
and
losing
it's
making.
People
feel
welcome,
feeling
good
about
coming
to
tu
place
and
Lansdowne.
Who
can
forget
the
excitement
of
the
eastern
final
in
November
and
a
modern
version
of
the
catch
for
us
to
Ellingson?
E
We
hosted
one
of
Ottawa's
biggest
stadium
shows
ever
when
30,000
packed
TV
place
to
experience
ac/dc
and
in
the
arena.
Performers
like
Serena,
Ryder,
Alabama,
Shakes
and
Def
Leppard,
true
fans
of
all
ages
to
Lansdowne
many
came
early
for
a
meal
and
stayed
late
for
a
post
concerts
snack.
We
also
hosted
cracking
up
the
capital,
a
Comedy
Festival
that
raised
important
funds
from
mental
health
awareness
and
keep
these
free.
Ottawa
rocks
concert
for
public
servants.
E
The
world
was
watching
last
summer
when
TD
place
hosted
the
FIFA
Women's
World
Cup
nine
matches
were
played
in
two
and
a
half
weeks,
attracting
almost
200,000
visitors,
generating
29
million
dollars
of
economic
activity
over
7
million
fans
in
Europe
and
another
5
million
in
the
u.s.
tuned
in
to
watch
those
matches
on
TV.
They
saw
beautiful
images
of
our
city
and
on
their
radar
as
a
possible
vacation
destination.
E
In
2015,
we
were
able
to
open
the
doors
to
the
playing
field,
an
arena
for
all
kinds
of
events
for
amateur
athletes
in
the
community.
At
large
we
hosted
high
school
football,
the
Panda
game
between
Cal
to
new
Ottawa
McAfee
football
club
soccer
minor
hockey,
and
we
even
offered
free
public
skating
on
PD
days.
E
We
also
encouraged
minor
hockey
youth
soccer
players
to
come
to
the
67th
and
Fury
games
by
joining
67s
prospects
or
the
fury
fanatics
kids
get
in
free
feedback
from
their
parents,
and
coaches
has
been
great.
Both
these
programs
were
designed
to
help
develop
long
term
fans
for
the
teams
and
feel
a
long-term
growth
for
Landsdowne.
E
Our
city
partners
of
Parks
and
Rec
ensured
that
Lansdowne
Park,
along
with
the
horticulture,
Building
and
Aberdeen
pavilion,
were
well
used
in
2015.
The
farmers
market
experienced
steady,
increasing
crowds.
As
you
heard
earlier,
there
were
large
and
small
events
in
the
park
from
yoga
to
Van
Morrison
headlining
city
folk,
a
tremendous
music
festival
that
drew
almost
40,000
fans
over
three
days
and
evenings
posix
collaboration
with
Dan
Shannon,
Natalie
Olson
and
their
team
increased
and
thrive
throughout
2015.
E
E
E
The
operating
loss
of
$985,000
is
a
significant
improvement
over
the
eleven
million
dollar
operating
loss
in
2014.
This
includes
improvements
in
TD
place
or
venue
of
2.5
million
and
an
improvement
in
retail
of
five
million.
It
doesn't
appear
in
this
chart,
but
after
non-cash
items
and
interests,
the
net
loss
of
twelve
point.
Six
million
is
a
3.6
million
improvement
over
2014.
So
we
are
definitely
moving
in
the
right
direction.
E
As
for
the
outlook,
our
new
term
view
is,
the
partnership
will
see
normalized
operations
in
2017
and
2018.
At
that
time,
gross
revenue
will
be
approximately
50
million
dollars.
Net
retail
rents
will
be
at
11
million
dollars
per
year
compared
to
5
million
in
2015
normalized
event
levels
will
be
at
a
hundred
to
110
events
per
year
compared
to
85
events
in
2015.
E
The
long-term
view
on
waterfall
distributions
has
improved
since
our
last
update,
while
the
2015-16
results
will
be
lower
than
last
year's
pro
forma
estimates.
There
are
increases
in
revenue
growth
under
committed
contracts
that
will
offset
this
total
distributions
over
the
third
year.
Partnership
will
be
457
million
compared
to
last
year's
estimate
of
424
million.
The
city
will
receive
distributions
of
32
million
dollars
compared
to
last
year's
estimate
of
0.
E
The
reason
for
this
increase
is
the
agreement
last
year
by
the
city
to
guarantee
a
24
million
dollar
loan,
to
o
sake,
to
settle
the
dispute
over
the
cost
to
remediate
the
stadium
in
the
Ottawa
Civic
Center
roof.
This
loan
will
significantly
reduce
interest
costs
in
the
partnership.
There
are
other
additional
benefits
to
the
city.
Although
a
long
term,
there
will
be
annual
contributions
to
the
capital
replacement
fund,
which
totals
64
million
dollars,
which
will
ensure
the
asset
is
maintained.
In
addition,
city
will
benefit
from
its
50%
interest
in
the
retail
partnership.
E
Less
our
retail
district
is
now
97
percent
leased
and
with
the
opening
of
craft
beer
market
last
month,
all
major
openings
are
now
complete.
Crap
your
market
11
other
Lansdowne
retailers
are
unique
to
Ottawa
such
as
Whole
Foods,
Sporting,
Life,
Cineplex
VIP,
and
a
few.
The
smaller
shops
on
the
site
jose
has
exceeded
the
40%
target
for
first-to-market
retailers.
E
The
resale
retail
district
has
also
undergone
some
significant
upgrades
in
wayfinding
and
safety.
In
the
last
year,
directional
signage
in
the
underground
parking
garage
has
been
improved.
New
directional
signs
have
been
added
on
the
surface.
We've
expanded
vehicle
road
closures
on
event
days
for
the
increased
pedestrian
traffic
on
the
site.
The
vehicle
pedestrian
mix
is
working
well
and
were
continuously
monitoring
activity.
This
is
a
priority
for
us.
A
the
viet
condo
tower
in
the
northwest
corner
of
the
site
was
fully
occupied
in
2015
the
Rideau,
which
overlooks
the
canal
no
stadium
field
started.
E
E
The
office
tower
is
an
important
part
of
increasing
the
site
density
and
daytime
activity.
One
floor
is
now
occupied.
The
second
floor
is
committed
under
lease.
The
remaining
three
floors
of
the
office
tower
are
actively
being
marketed.
Now
that
the
site
is
vibrant,
interest
levels
have
picked
up
the
small
two-story
building
between
the
office
tower
near
Ito
condo
tower.
The
annex
building
is
now
committed
under
lease.
E
E
Shuttle
bus
volumes
were
down
primarily
because
people
shifted
to
OC
Transpo
or
found
alternative
methods
to
get
to
games
fans
embrace
the
convenience
of
the
transportation
model
for
all
other
events
that
lands
down
the
targets
for
transit
and
active
modes
have
been
exceeded,
as
reported
to
the
Transportation
Committee
in
April,
and
once
the
new
pedestrian
cycling
bridge
over
the
Rideau
Canal
at
Fifth,
Avenue
is
complete.
We
expect
to
see
solid
increases
in
those
active
modes
of
transportation,
which
will
result
in
decreased
on
street
parking
in
the
Glebe
and
old
ottawa
south.
E
E
Consultation
and
communication
with
our
neighbourhood,
community
groups
and
business
organizations
our
key
priorities,
Faro
say
we
participate
in
regular
meetings
with
the
city,
a
ward
councillor,
David
cherish
anko,
the
Glebe
Community
Association,
the
old
Ottawa
self
and
old
Ottawa
East
community
associations
and
we've
also
established
an
excellent
working
relationship
with
the
Glebe
BIA
mosaic
has
also
gained
insight
into
the
effectiveness
of
our
transportation
management
programs
on
nearby
neighborhoods
by
participating
in
the
regular
LT
MOC
meetings
with
community
stakeholders.
Those
meetings
have
been
very
helpful.
E
The
survey
of
glebe
in
Ottawa
self
residents
conducted
last
fall
by
their
community
associations
had
some
very
good
findings.
Over
67%
of
respondents
were
either
positive
or
very
positive
about
Lansdowne,
and
one
of
the
great
stories
of
Lansdowne
is
job
creation.
Job
creation
has
been
a
positive
success
for
the
partnership.
We
have
created
thousand
full-time
equivalent
jobs
over
the
entire
site
when
combined
with
the
economic
impact
of
events.
This
is
a
great
economic
story
now
see
now
see.
Thank
you
for
this
opportunity.
We
look
forward
to
questions
great.
A
D
I
think
I
should
probably
wait
and
I'm
not
sure
if
it
is
or
isn't.
That's
where
my
Minto
hat
is
not
my
oh
say
cat.
It's
a
it's
an
office
juice
I
can
say
that
it's
not
it's
not
a
retailer.
Oh
so
it's
an
office
use
and
they
should
be
doing
it
fit
up
now
with
being
in
occupancy
in
mid-september,
and
it's
someone
in
Ottawa
that
you'll
recognize
okay,.
A
F
Well,
thank
you
for
your
presentation
and
for
being
here
just
a
couple
questions
and
the
first
one
involves
the
significant
shift
improvement
in
the
financial
performance,
but
I
just
don't
understand
why
the
last
time
they
were
here
we
saw
we
were
shocked
at
how
you
know
the
potential
profit
for
the
city
had
eroded
away
to
almost
nothing
and
now
it's
kind
of
swung
back
to
where
it
was
before
and
seems
like
a
big
shift
to
me.
So
maybe
two
Miss
America
and
yet
there's
not
a
lot
of
detail
in
this
report.
G
The
big
swing
you
saw
was
actually
because
of
the
decision
you
made
last
year
to
take
the
cost
of
of
the
beams
that
there
had
to
be
replaced,
which
I
think
was
26
million
dollars
and
then
combined
with
some
other
things.
I
think
it
ended
up
being
32
or
34
million
dollars
that
needed
to
be
to
be
funded
and
as
opposed
to
having
it
as
equity,
provided
with
bio
seg,
which
means
it
would
then
be
paid
at
with
on
8%
and
they'd,
be
paid
back
over
time.
G
So
there
ends
up
being
money
that
comes
back
to
the
city
as
a
result,
so
do
I
expect
that
to
change
like
another
big
windfall
in
the
future.
The
answer
is
no,
because
this
was
a
one-time
event
that
happened
because
of
that
decision
you
made
to
deal
with
that
expense
as
an
expense
and
not
an
equity
contribution.
Okay,
thank
you.
Thank
you.
D
G
D
If
I,
if
I
can
just
to
put
into
perspective
it's
an
8%,
it
would
have
been
an
8%
equity
contribution
versus
about
a
two
and
a
half
percent
loan.
So
with
the
city
guarantee
on
the
loan
that
difference
of
about
five
and
a
half
percent
over
the
20-year
repayment
had
a
significant
impact
on
how
the
funds
would
come
out.
D
So
when
we
made
the
presentation
it
was
before
last
year,
it
was
before
the
city
agreed
to
guarantee
that
loan,
so
that
that
would
be
about
three-quarters
of
it,
and
then
some
of
it
also
comes
from
enhancements
that
we
believe
over
the
course
of
30
years,
will
take
place
in
terms
of
revenue
streams
coming
into
the
model
as
well,
something
that
will
update
every
year.
Okay,.
F
D
The
performer
read
what
the
variable
will
be
is
things
like
attendance
at
the
sporting
events,
how
much
people
will
pay
the
ticket
fee,
revenue
that
we'll
be
receiving
the
number
of
concerts,
etc?
Things
that
we
can
do
I.
Think
as
you.
It's
not
necessarily.
It
wasn't
a
good
story
necessarily
a
few
weeks
ago,
but
we've
made
the
decision
to
put
air
conditioning,
for
example,
into
the
the
Civic
Center
TV
of
the
arena.
D
Tv
place,
that's
something
that
that
building
has
never
had,
so
it
never
really
had
an
opportunity
to
have
events
in
the
summertime,
because
it
was
too
hot
bad
luck
for
us
that
the
UFC
event
went
on
at
the
hottest
day
of
the
year
and
went
on
for
seven
and
a
half
hour.
If
it
had
been
a
little
bit
less
and
a
little
less
warmer
day,
no
one
would
have
known
it.
We're
at
60%
capacity,
then
we're
now
at
100%.
The
work
has
been
completed
so
as
we're
starting
to
make
some
of
these
capital
enhancements.
D
F
Thank
you.
My
next
question
is
about
I
guess,
fundamentally
it's
about
the
partnership
and
I
know
when
we
started
the
partnership.
We
had
I
think
the
city
had
some
agreement
on
the
types
of
events
that
we
could
hold
in
our
buildings,
the
Aberdeen
Pavilion
in
the
horticultural
building
and
I've
heard
one
blings
I,
don't
know
if
this
true
and
I
have
heard
rumblings
that
there
have
been
some
disputes
about
the
kind
of
events
that
the
city
can
hold
in
their
building.
So
when
they
ask
you
is
that
the
case
and
how
are
those
disputes
mediated.
E
There
are
no
disputes
on
any
of
those
programming
activities.
What
rumblings
you
might
have
heard
were
coordinating
events
that
happened
on
redblacks
game
days
last
year,
as
our
first
year
of
operation,
events
were
held
in
Aberdeen
that
drew
a
certain
number
of
people,
as
you
know,
red
black
scheme
drawing
24,000
people.
What
we
have
learned
over
the
course
of
last
year's
red
black
season
and
planning
for
this
year's
red
black
season
is
to
better
coordinate
the
scale
and
size
of
events
that
can
take
place
on
a
red
Black's
game
day.
E
F
C
Joe,
maybe
I
could
address
that.
There
is
an
agreement
with
the
UI
center
that
the
city
portion
of
the
site
we
will
not
host
trade,
shows
to
compete
with
the
I
Center,
and
that
was
part
of
the
agreement
dating
back
some
time
ago.
In
the
initial
stages
of
our
occupancy
of
Lansdowne
Park,
there
were
a
couple
of
hits
and
misses
in
terms
of
types
of
events
that
we
attracted
that
did
did
cause
us
to
have
to
go
back
to
UI
Center
and
have
a
discussion
about
the
types
of
events
that
we
host
at
Lansdowne
Park.
C
We
did
have
a
very
good
discussion
with
them,
I
think,
probably
about
a
year,
perhaps
eight
months
ago,
to
establish
some
ground
rules
in
terms
of
the
things
that
we
would.
We
would
host
there
and
the
kind
of
things
that
they
would
host
and
an
understanding
that
in
some
cases,
even
when
there
are
events
that
possibly
would
be
excluded
for
I
understand
that
we
talked
to
them
and
they
have
they
last
while
been
accommodating,
where
it's
possible,
where
they
didn't
see
that
we've
been
doing
something
that
would
unduly
compete
with
them.
C
They
have
been
open
to
lifting
that
provision,
but
there
is
still
a
restriction
and
we
still
often
get
requests
for.
Events
that
are
purely
trade
shows
that
we
generally
have
to
send
to
other
venues
because
of
that
prohibition,
but
because
of
the
understanding
with
ey
Center
and
a
clear
understanding
now
of
what
what
we
can
accommodate
and
what
we
can.
It
hasn't
been
problematic
in
the
last
little
while
so.
F
C
Climate
limitations,
because
Aberdeen
is
not
completely
heated
during
the
winter
months.
It's
not
as
attractive.
It's
fine
for
things
like
the
winter
market,
where
people
keep
their
coats
on
or
for
large
events
like
Hogmanay,
where
there's
enough
stuff
going
on
that
it
that
it's
warm
enough,
but
it's
not
a
full
use,
winter
building,
and
so
our
limitation.
C
But
as
I
mentioned
earlier
during
the
month
of
June,
it
was
almost
100%
occupied
for
the
entire
month
in
terms
of
activities.
Horticultural
building
again
is
the
same
thing.
It
falls.
It
follows
a
seasonal
pattern.
Its
limitation
is
the
lack
of
air
conditioning
in
the
summer
months
and
and,
of
course,
the
natural
flow
of
events
at
this
time
of
year
during
festival
season
in
the
fall,
it
will
be
very
busy.
F
F
Okay
and
just
one
last
question-
you
mentioned
mr.
Cheney
about
the
the
kewpie
movie
screen
and
so
I
had
the
Kippy
movie
screen
in
my
ward
for
an
event.
Last
summer
movie
night
in
Gloucester,
South
Gate,
we
had
over
300
people
out
wanted
to
do
that
again.
This
year
and
I'm
told
that
it's
no
longer
traveling
around
the
community
as
it
used
to
do
from
community
to
community,
because
it's
now
permanently
installed
at
lands.
C
C
What
it
means
is
that,
as
as
a
base
of
operation
for
efficient
use,
it
will
be
there
and
we've
planned
ten
events
there
as
a
central
location,
it
means
that
to
move
the
two
other
locations
will
really
require
those
extra
resources
to
move
it
and
set
it
up
and
run
it,
and
the
benefit
of
redstone
is
that
we
have
on-site
support
to
be
able
to
do
that.
Okay,.
G
You
mr.
mayor
and
thank
you,
everyone
for
presenting
it's
lovely
to
see
you
back
here
again
and
the
excitement
continues
and
the
success
is
even
greater
than
it
was
mr.
maryk
and
I
ask
questions
and
do
a
summary
at
the
same
time:
okay,
so
mr.
Shane
yeh,
when
you
were
talking
about
the
deficit
that
we
continue
to
see
in
the
in
your
slide
deck
and
talking
about
you
know
it's
a
matter
of
getting
the
program
each
of
the
right
level
in
order
to
do
defeat
that
or
combat
it.
G
C
C
It
was
balanced
to
the
good
service
so
that
we,
in
fact,
of
our
budget
savings
of
three
hundred
and
thirty
thousand
dollars
overall,
as
a
department
last
year
and
of
2015.
We
broke
even
for
the
first
time
in
four
or
five
years,
so
we
were
at
the
line
still
very
close
to
the
line,
but
overall
covering
off
our
entire
budget
with
Lansdowne.
G
G
With
that,
and
so
you
were
talking
about
having
a
I-
think
a
capital
maintenance
fund
at
land
stone,
64
million
dollars-
one
of
you
was
talking
about
that
mr.
Shandy.
How
does
that
I
mean?
You
know
we
look
at
our
facilities.
I
know
I'm
using
my
cash
in
lieu
of
parkland
for
things.
As
you
know,
that
would
be
traditionally
life
cycle
maintenance.
What
we're
nowhere
near
to
that
having
that
kind
of
a
padding
for
investment,
maybe.
C
Mister
the
buildings
on
the
city
side,
the
horticulture
of
the
Everdene
and
the
city
infrastructure
is
under
a
regular
is
the
asset
management
program.
I
believe
I,
know
me
as
an
expert
but
I
believe
the
the
the
funds
that
we're
talking
about
in
mr.
Ash's
presentation
is
is
for
their
portion
of
their
of
the
site
as.
D
So
it
has
nothing
to
do
with
the
retail
and
activities
that
we're
taking
place
there.
This
reserve
fund
is
really
as
a
capital
reserve
for
those
major
facilities
and
then
the
city
can
decide
at
the
end
of
30
years.
What
does
it
want
to
do
with
the
with
the
arena
and
the
state
in
which,
at
that
point
parts
of
it
will
be?
You
know
something
like
80
years
old,
but
fortunately
it
probably
won't
be
us.
I
will
be
making
that
decision.
D
If
we
were
selling
in
me
being
here
wearing
a
young
man,
I'm
in
tow,
had
if
we
were
trying
to
sell
in
today's
market,
I
probably
wouldn't
have
a
smile
on
my
face.
These
units
were
the
bulk
of
them
were
sold
at
a
time
when
the
market,
the
condominium
market,
was
much
better.
So
we
sold
them,
probably
in
the
2013
late
2013
timeframe,
early
2014,
the
economy,
new
markets
slowed
substantially
from
above,
mid
2015
on
so.
G
G
This
is
because
councillor
Eglin,
they
were
talking
when
you
were
presenting
about
how
great
a
place
it
is
I
mean
you
can
have
a
job
there
and
if
you
don't
have
a
job
there
and
you
work
in
government,
you
can
walk
to
your
job.
You
did
enough
to
get
bus.
You
know
you
can
bike
to
your
job
along
the
the
beautiful
I
mean
you're.
It's
amazing
to
see
how
holistic
it
is
in
in
that
setting
which
isn't
very
large.
But
it's
calm.
G
It's
so
compact
that
it's
amazing
also
noting
the
it
looks
like
a
forest
around
it,
because
the
canopy
and
the
gleave,
and
that
it's
it's
quite
stunning
I
wanted
to
also
say
that
I
think
that
what
you've
accomplished
and
I
think
and
when
I
say
that
I'm
not
just
saying
it
to
OH
sake,
I'm,
definitely
saying
to
the
city
and
all
the
players.
Certainly
mr.
Kent
mr.
Kent
raucous
today,
but
really
mr.
Kirkpatrick
I
mean
he
carried
the
ball
and
in
a
very
significant
way
on
this
file
for
many
years.
G
Appreciate
it
because
I
think
the
way
we
are
now.
It's
phenomenal
that
you
have
reached
the
the
levels
you
have
in
all
areas
and
so
many
of
the
areas,
and
we
know
where
our
weaknesses
are,
that
we're
going
to
go.
But
in
such
a
short
timeframe,
I
really
I
really
truly
do,
and
you
know,
as
far
as
it
being
a
city
wide
city
pride
place,
I
just
have
a
couple
of
antidotes
from
bar
Haven
people
that
I
think
are
significant,
so
my
son-in-law
for
their
anniversary
last
August,
they
went
out
to
WestBow.
G
They
left
bar
Haven.
He
went
to
West
burrow,
they
had
they
had
dinner,
they
went
to
Lansdowne
and
for
special.
You
know,
dessert
and
coffees,
and
that
afterwards-
and
he
sent
me
a
note
which
I
copied
to
these
cities-
to
the
chief
of
staff
and
I
said,
and
he
said
this
place
is
phenomenal.
You
guys
absolutely
for
all
the
dirt
you
took
on
this.
It's
an
amazing
place
and
we'll
be
back
so
many
times.
Of
course,
now
they
go
back.
Take
the
kids
to
the
playground.
G
Another
comment
was
from
my
sister,
who
was
thrilled,
who
doesn't
bar
Haven
was
thrilled
to
get
from
her
daughter
who
works
at
the
gym,
their
tickets
for
test
out
the
gym
for
the
cinema
and
for
dinner
for
Christmas
present
at
Lansdowne,
and
then
my
daughter
well,
I
have
five
of
them,
but
the
oldest
one
she
has
just
booked
for
the
bar
Haven
Business
Improvement
area
an
evening
at
the
Red
Box
in
October
and
having
a
meet
and
greet
and
networking
and
all
that
kind
of
stuff.
So
here
we
are,
you
know,
I
mean
we're.
I!
G
H
Mr.
mayor,
you
know
what
a
pleasant
difference
a
few
years
have
made
when
we
would
see
lands
down
on
the
on
the
agenda
for
a
community
meeting.
We
would
all
kind
of
cringe
and
and
and
batten
down
the
hatches
for
the
for
the
discussion
and
the
debate,
and-
and
this
is
so
much
more
pleasant
and
it's
it's
always
a
pleasure
to
get
the
joint
report
from
both
the
private
and
the
public
sector.
I
have
a
question
for
you.
Mr.
C
It
doesn't
have
that
feel
and
that
we
have
tried
some
of
our
local
associations
of
tried,
traditional
programs
and
by
and
large
they
are
not
what
seems
to
be
working.
The
neighborhood
has
two
local
community
centers
that
do
an
excellent
job
through
their
associations,
so
we're
trying
to
innovate
with
things
like
drop-in
workshops
by
attracting
groups
that
can
make
use
of
large
larger
spaces
like
that,
often
on
a
rental
basis,
but
I
think
we
also
have
to
look
at
some
creative
ways
of
making
the
space
available.
C
C
C
C
How
we
could
do
it
outdoors
in
terms
of
placement
of
speakers
if
we
are
going
to
have
outdoor
events
sound
levels,
all
those
kinds
of
things
so
we're
in
the
learning
mode.
This
is
year
two
and
we're
still
learning
a
lot
about
the
site.
What
works,
what
doesn't
work
as
well
and
and
and
we're
working
with
that
just.
H
A
good
call
if
you
talked
about
working
at
other
suppliers
or
whatever
you
see
what
trends
were
so
what
what
would
be
some
of
the
comparables
that
you
look
at
in
terms
of
venue
in
Canada's
that
we
could
sort
of
make
a
reference
to
and
do
you
have
a
sense
of
what
of
what
their
occupancy
numbers
are
internally
I
think
you
said
we're
running
at
54%,
so
some
of
the
other
comparables
that
have
been
around
longer
and
more
of
a
more
of
a
sense
of
their
place.
How
would
we
benchmark
against
them.
C
We
haven't
done
extensive
benchmarking.
We've
talked
to
large
central
core
parks,
including
New
York
City,
including
Seattle,
to
look
at
those
kinds
of
venues
to
see
what's
work
there
and
we've
done
some
benchmarking,
but
the
problem
is
that
most
of
these
places
have
been
some
of
them
very
long
time
in
existence
and
some
of
them
at
least
a
few
a
decade
or
two.
C
So
it's
really
hard
to
compare
after
year,
one
and
year
two,
especially
since
the
infrastructure
is
still
a
work
in
progress
in
terms
of
adjusting
things,
repairing
things
getting
them
up
to
their
optimal
performance,
the
54
percent
on
average
throughout
the
year
for
both
buildings.
We
think
right
now,
given
the
potential
for
both
buildings
and
their
limitations
is
pretty
good
in
the
seasons
that
are
optimal
for
those.
The
occupancy
is
seventy-five
to
a
hundred
percent
with
often
a
waiting
list,
and
they
are
creating
niche
markets.
C
Now
we
have
bookings
going
into
2019
for
things
like
weddings
up
in
the
horticultural
building,
so
they
are
developing
a
community
profile
that
is
attractive
to
people
and
that
will
I
think
help
us
grow
some
of
those.
Some
of
those
lines
of
programming
that
we
offer,
but
we
haven't,
been
able
to
compare
them
and
accurately
benchmark
utilization
rates
for
both
buildings,
simply
because
it's
in
growth
mode
right
now,
and
it's
really
hard
to
pin
down
a
last.
H
Question
we
heard
a
little
bit
about
the
UFC
event
hottest
day
of
the
year.
No
air
conditioning-
and
you
Dan
also
referenced
air
conditioning
as
an
issue
for
the
rental
of
the
buildings.
So
is
it?
Is
it
a
cost
issue
in
terms
of
having
the
the
air
conditioned
put
in,
or
is
it
simply
the
age
of
the
building
that
that
an
air
conditioning
system
wouldn't
wouldn't
really
achieve
what
we
want
it
to
do?.
C
Mr.
chair,
in
the
case
of
the
horticultural
building,
it
is
cost
in
order
to
do
it,
sensitivity
and
respect
the
heritage
of
the
horticultural
building.
The
estimate
we
are
working
is
just
shy
of
a
million
dollars.
At
this
point.
There
are
cheaper
alternatives
of
window
units.
That
would
be
totally
unacceptable,
in
my
view,
in
terms
of
the
quality
of
the
site.
C
I
C
I
I
Around
10,000,
so
maybe
that's
what
helps
contribute
to
the
good
financial
status.
The
fact
that
you
chose
the
redblacks
over
the
Antiques
Show,
so
thank
you
for
the
effort.
Also,
what
compliments
on
the
UFC
I
was
able
to
get
a
chance
to
run
into
you
at
the
event.
So
I'm
happy
to
hear
you
fix
the
air
conditioning
because
it
was
a
hot
night.
But
could
you
tell
me
it's
not
a
record
crowd
for
that
building
because
certainly
the
biggest
crowd
I've
seen
in
30
years
I've
been
going
around
there.
It.
E
Was
the
largest
crowd
inside
that
arena?
Ever
it
was
the
fastest
sellout
that
we've
had
inside
that
arena,
and
we
did
extremely
well
that
evening
on
total
revenue
from
all
sources,
so
it
was
a.
It
was
a
tremendous
success.
Regrettably,
the
air
conditioning
was
that
was
the
only
flying
with
that
night.
Thank.
I
I
It's
every
time,
I
go
down
and
I'm
just
impressed,
but
how
much
is
going
on
in
the
area?
How
many
people
are
there
they're
coming
from
all
over
the
city,
the
goal
there
and
you
other
than
the
odd
parking
complaint?
You
never
hear
anything
negative
about
it,
and
so
I
really
want
to
congratulate
you
on
your
efforts
and
thank
you
for
it.
Okay,
Thank
You.
Mr.
mayor
great.
J
You
very
much
well
I
used
to
joke
mostly
darkly.
That
Lansdowne
is
my
life
I'm
glad
to
say
this
term.
Lansdowne
is
only
a
quarter
of
my
life,
and
most
of
that
is
good.
Many
a
fine
summer
evening
and
fall
afternoon
sitting
in
stands,
watching
games
and
taking
part
in
all
sorts
of
events
there
and,
as
I'm
sure
you
all
know,
I.
Of
course,
I
continue
to
actively
participate
through
our
transportation
group
through
our
community
groups.
J
So
there's
plenty
of
opportunities
for
me
to
if
I
could
call
it
micromanage
or
at
least
get
involved
in
some
of
the
micro
issues
and
I
will
bring
up
any
of
the
micro
issues
here
today,
because
we
have
those
venues
or
forums
to
do
that.
A
few
questions
I
think
I
got
the
answer
to
the
on
page
number.
Five.
There
is
a
remark
about
the
30-year
projection.
J
The
improvement
there,
primarily
resulting
from
a
shift
and
increase
in
revenue,
projection,
satrom
shift
and
increase
puzzled
me
is
that
one
missed
similar
key
or
responding
to
in
terms
of
the
dish
increase
in
revenues.
I
can
get
that
with
the
shift.
Part
was
in
terms
of
these
steel,
beams,
etc
or
shifting
it
onto
loan.
That's
what
that
refers
to
that.
J
J
C
Mr.
chair
two
things
really
that,
in
terms
of
programming,
one
is
exactly
what
you're
saying
registered
programs
that
would
traditionally
be
in
a
community
center.
There
hasn't
been
an
easy
carryover
of
that
product
without
looking
at
how
we
might
change
it,
and
we've
tried
and
the
Jenaya
has
tried
with
limited
success
and
don't
know
if
it's
partly
venue,
partly
that
we
haven't
built
the
market
for
that
kind
of
product
there.
C
The
other
thing
that
we've
learned
is
that
matching
some
types
of
rentals
with
those
buildings
is
not
a
good
mix,
and
you
will
notice
because
you
get
the
emails
as
well,
is
that
some
of
the
events
are
simply
too
loud
for
for
those
buildings
and
we
so
we've
looked
at
that
and
are
targeting.
You
know,
we've
run
through
the
commitments
that
we
have
made
and
taking
our
lumps.
J
I
certainly
appreciate
it,
although
of
course
it's
it's
still
a
work
in
progress,
there's
been
significant
improvement
and
we
always
have
to
deal
with
the
you
know
the
cliche
or
unfortunate
throwaway
line
about
you
know
neighbors
around
land,
sound
they're,
just
not
like
fun.
Well,
you
know,
we
know
they
do
like
fun.
Just
not
every
night
till
2:00
in
the
morning
and
and
I
appreciate
the
efforts
that
have
been
made
there.
J
Perhaps
a
couple
of
other
I'd
like
to
think
I
know
the
answer
to
this,
but
I
want
to
make
sure
I
get
this
publicly
dispelled
the
other
farmers
market,
NIT
and
ion
exchange
yesterday
we're
yet
another
person
said:
I
was
at
the
market
and
I
heard
from
one
of
the
style
holders
that
half
of
the
spaces
that
were
promised,
weren't,
delivered
or
or
oh
Sega
isn't
giving
up
the
space
that
they
said
they
would
and
I'm
glad.
That
sounds
to
me,
like
a
rumor
that
got
you
know
via
telephone
game.
J
C
Mr.
chair,
the
original
plans
that
were
worked
out
for
the
farmers
market
we're
pre
occupancy
before
we
had
the
opportunity
to
actually
see
the
site
experience.
What
Marche
Way
looks
like
on
a
busy
Saturday
and
the
layout
of
the
stands
was
such
that
when
we
experienced
in
the
first
season
was
such
that
they
simply
didn't
work
as
a
rigid
as
originally
envisaged
and
so
full
we,
oh
she
Asian
of
the
occupancy.
We
knew
that
we
had
to
come
up
with
simpler
with
a
solution.
C
C
J
Alright,
thank
you.
I
think
we
could
say:
we've
learned
lessons
about
designing
water
features
that
are
art
that
we
should
not
design
something.
That's
an
art
feature
in
a
place.
That's
going
to
attract
people
to
play.
What,
where
we
now
the
point
I'm
making
a
little
bit
sideways
is
that
these
were
art
features,
but
naturally
you
put
water
up
on
a
fine
hot
day.
People
want
to
go
play
in
it
only
to
be
told
you
can't
play
in
that.
It's
an
art
feature
in
terms
of
Parks
and
Rec.
Have
what
have
we
learned
on?
J
C
Is
probably
three
things
that
I
can
offer
in
this
case
the
first
and
the
most
fundamental
is
the
modifications
that
were
agreed
to
as
part
of
our
initial
experience
last
year.
That
will
be
done
this
summer.
We
anticipate,
probably
in
August
I'm,
told
that
the
holdup
is
getting
the
slate
to
match
the
installation
so
that
it
so
that
it
doesn't
look
like
a
haphazard
modification,
so
that
will
be
done
to
address
those
immediate
issues
that
were
identified
last
year.
C
C
The
staff
have
purchased
some
large
Plaza
toys
to
to
help
enhance
a
little
bit,
take
it
from
primarily
an
art
piece
to
a
bit
more
of
a
fun
fun
space
simply
because
we
realize
that
it
is
being
used
as
a
splash
pad
and
that
some
more
animation,
fun
and
Colour
is
probably
in
order,
and
even
though
we
can't
do
anything
permanently,
we
can
enhance
the
space
with
some
move
on
move
off
objects
that
kids
can
play
with.
It's.
J
Certainly,
the
lesson
that
I
take
away
from
this
was
let's
be
sure
that
in
the
future,
in
any
facility
in
the
city
that
we
don't
design
a
water
feature
that
can't
be
played
in
because
people
will
want
to
play
in
it
and
then
we'll
be
asked,
why
is
it
so
unsafe
and
so
inaccessible,
etc?
So
I
think
that's
something
for
us
to
keep
in
mind.
A
couple
of
the
other
issues
are
ones
that
I
know
we'll
keep
working
on
it's
already
being
mentioned,
as
sort
of
a
sound
bleed.
J
How
that
works
very
high
winds
this
weekend
that
sound
traveled
very
far
not
surprising
competing
music
on
the
side.
I
hear
about
the
fact
that
every
bar
wants
to
use
music
to
attract
its
then
use.
We
tend
to
get
sound
clash,
that's
more
than
sort
of
a
no
sex
venue
to
suggest
or
work
with
your
your
clients
in
that
area.
E
J
If
there's
a
lot
of
people
coming
to
the
site,
it
has
to
be
adequately
served
with
what
with
transit
and
I
assume,
now
that
that
is
something
whether
it's
under
the
SEC's
purview
or
the
cities
that
anyone
running
an
event
is
put
through
that
same
screen
of
this
is
how
it
works.
If
you're
expecting
these
numbers,
you
have
to
pay
for
and
provide
sufficient
bus
service.
J
E
For
sure
we
collaborate
on
all
events,
in
fact,
that's
a
great
example
of
the
Asian
market,
where
we
all
came
together,
even
though
it
was
not
technically
a
no
saiga
event
to
come
up
with
solutions.
The
most
important
criteria
that
we
use
is
to
ensure
that
there
is
a
ticket
that
people
can
print
out,
whether
it's
a
free
at
home,
free
print
at
home,
ticket
or
a
paid
ticket,
so
that
they
can
use
OC
Transpo.
All.
C
C
This
new
document-
that's
developed
by
OC
Transpo,
just
as
an
extra
layer
of
emphasizing
when
we
signed
a
contract
with
a
group
that
part
of
the
condition
of
using
this
site
is
compliance
with
the
transportation
requirements,
because
in
the
past
that
has
been
perhaps
less
formalized
than
it
needs
to
be
and
going
forward
for
all
contracts.
That
will
be
formalized.
Thank.
J
You
now
one
final
short
question:
I
guess
to
mister
I've
heard
about
this
boat
service
canal
board
service,
but
I
never
got
any
details
on
that
can
can
you
describe
how
its
intended
to
work
I?
Take
it
we're
going
to
be
pretty
small
numbers,
it's
not
as
if
serving
Lansdowne
by
boat
is
going
to
become
a
major
way,
but
can
you
describe
what
the
current
plan
is
for
this
season?
You.
E
Would
like
to
offer
packages
for
people
to
you,
know,
get
off
and
get
back
on
again
at
Landsdowne.
He
has
we've
met
with
him
and
a
couple
of
occasions,
and
he
has
met
with
some
of
our
restaurants
and
they're,
putting
some
packages
together.
So
it's
something
that
he
intends
to
when
he
gets
fully
operational
intends
to
do
and.
E
K
E
Counselors
a
good
question:
we
are
I'm
going
to
be
putting
in
place
measures
this
year
for
the
67th
to
improve
the
ability
of
67's
families
to
park.
The
first
thing
we're
doing
is
to
hold
more
games
on
Saturday
afternoons
and
Sunday
afternoons,
which
we
heard
from
our
67s
families
that
they
would
prefer
over
the
Friday
night.
E
It
also
was
difficult
to
manage
the
parking
lot
on
Friday
nights
when
restaurants
have
their
peak
evening
during
winter,
so
we're
also
gonna
be
operating
free
shuttle,
service,
school
bus
shuttle
service
from
Carleton
University
and
a
drop-off
rate
at
the
door,
so
that
will
help
with
with
families
who
want
to
park
free
nearby,
and
it's
about
a
seven
minute
commute.
So
we
are
gonna.
Try
both
those
measures
this
year,
promote
the
heck
out
of
them
and
hope
that
we
will
see
you
know
increased
numbers
from
families
coming
to
67's
games
in
the
winter.
One.
E
Don't
believe
the
volumes
will
be
sufficient
to
operate
it
here
at
the
City
Hall
and
it's
it's
a
good
point.
City
Hall
was
a
very
popular
shuttle
parking
lot
for
for
out-of-town
visitors,
for
for
the
Brier
and
for
FIFA
and
for
a
couple
of
the
other
events.
We've
done
so
we'll
monitor
it
and
in
determine
if
it
helps
as
well
is.
E
Happy
that
the
frequency
of
service
of
the
number
one
and
number
seven
buses
are
sufficient
to
get
families
who
who
parks
a
north
of
the
Queensway
and
get
on
a
one
or
seven
and
come
down
to
the
site.
But,
as
you
pointed
out
earlier
in
your
comment,
the
issue
is
really
January
in
February
weather,
when
it's
when
it's
a
really
cold
night
or
day
with
kids
adults
can
handle
it
little
kids,
not
so
much.
K
To
see
that
the
boat
issue
is
finally
working,
that's
something
that
we
talked
about
and
a
way
back,
I,
remember
that
wasn't
an
option
that
I
was
mentioned
at
Busch
and
consider
and
I
think
it's
a
fantastic
tool
on
tickets
for
tourism
and
everything
you
know,
packages
with
new
restaurants,
it's
a
win-win
and
they
get
seeing
a
girl
from
Reno
Canal
and
they
get
to
see
our
new
stadium,
often
the
Rideau
Canal,
and
then
they
go
on
site.
You
know
it's
it's
fantastic
just
in
case
and
then
we'll
enjoy
the
report.
K
We
looked
at
2014,
11
million
dollars,
operating
loss,
know
you're
down
to
$175
and
I.
Think
that
shows
a
very
good
positive
movement
as
we're
going
forward.
97
percent
Lisa
retail
amendment
and
discussions
way
back.
Those
know
stories
are
in
those
retail
and
would
never
be
occupied
and
there
was
no
interest
for
it.
Obviously,
it's
showing
that
it
is
working.
Condos
are
occupation,
novels
capacity
again
any
time
you
can
bring
more
density
to
the
site.
K
K
So
thing
you
see
on
the
red
box
after
year
to
go
to
the
Grey
Cup,
which
was
a
success
on
the
fury
FC
going
to
New
York
City
for
the
finals
and
yeah
and
the
first
two
franchises
the
first
two
years.
One
do
that
ac/dc
concert
young
women
asking
for
a
nap
concert
four
years
in
Ottawa
and
obviously
it
was
a
huge
success.
Fifa
you
mention
them,
but
meaning
people
not
more
watching
it.
If
we
get
the
Grey
Cup.
K
K
A
I
Very
much
mr.
mayor
mr.
Ashe
mr.
Greenberg,
mr.
Chen
yay
I'm
not
going
to
pile
on
with
everyone
else
and
with
the
praise,
but
we
asked
for
a
touchdown.
You
delivered
a
touchdown,
so
thank
you
very
much
for
for
a
transformational
piece
of
our
city's
fabric.
My
only
question
of
this
update,
mr.
Shetty
is
for
you
and
it
has
it's
with
respect
to
something
that
councillor
Eagle
I
had
touched
on
a
little
bit
and
a
few
of
the
other
councillors
you
know
hearing
mr.
Greenberg
mr.
I
Ashe
talk
about
you
know
the
opportunities
for
them
to
incrementally
increase
the
revenue
by
making
some
additional
investments
aka.
The
air
conditioning
for
the
67th
arena
area
type
thing
I
know
we're
struggling
with
that
same
challenge.
When
we
look
at
something
like
the
Hort
building,
so
you
know
we
have
the
we
put
our
our
assets
on
the
lifecycle
program,
so
they're
going
to
get
as
much
lifecycle
attention
as
we
give
everything
else.
I
Hopefully,
hopefully,
we'll
try
and
keep
pace
with
what
the
investments
are
being
made
by
the
private
sector,
but
I'd
be
interested
to
hear
from
you.
If
there's
any
plan
from
you
to
look
at
what
are
our
opportunities
you
know
to
as
mr.
Greenberg
kinda
laid
you
know,
we
did
numbers
and
said:
look
if
we
made
this
investment
in
air
conditioning,
we
could
double
that
investment
in
terms
of
revenue.
You
know
over
a
time
period.
Do
we
have
that
same
kind
of
analysis
going
on
in
our
pieces
of
the
property?
I
So
have
you
done
an
analysis
of
you
know
there
may
be
no
money
for
it
right
now,
but
if
we
put
in
air
conditioning
in
the
court
building,
would
we
see
a
return
on
that
investment?
If
we
made
I,
don't
know
what
the
other?
Perhaps
changes
might
be
to
some
of
the
infrastructure
that
we
own
there,
but
other
changes
that
we
could
make
that
perhaps
aren't
factored
into
any
budget
right
now,
but
that
could
yield
additional
revenue
opportunities
over
time.
C
Mr.
cheeley,
the
answer
to
that
is
that
our
first
step
was
under
culture.
Building
significant
amount
of
work
was
done,
so
it's
in
relatively
good
good
shape
with
respect
to
building
system,
so
it
is
lacking
air
conditioning.
Our
first
first
mission
was
to
understand
what
could
be
done
to
air-condition
the
building
and
in
leading
up
to
to
actually
figuring
this
piece
out.
There
was
some
suggestion
that
it
couldn't
be
done
in
an
environmentally
in
in
a
architectural,
sensitive
manner.
C
C
There
was
a
likelihood
that
the
answer
to
that
is
is
is
yes
could?
Could
it
justify
the
million
dollars
that
is
going
to
cost
I'm,
not
sure
that
yet
because
it's
proven
to
be
an
extremely
popular
building?
The
way
it
is
now
people
are
making
do
with
the
fact
that
we're
booking
weddings
throughout
the
summer
and
all
kinds
of
special
events
people
are
not
shying
away.
So
if
they
come
anyways,
maybe
the
business
case
is
not
that
strong.
C
However,
we
will
look
at
it
to
see
if
it
is
a
great
project
for
stimulus
and
infrastructure
projects
for
us
to
look
at.
So
we
want
to
be
able
to
fully
understand,
demonstrate
and
be
ready
to
apply
if
it
comes
up.
In
my
mind,
it's
probably
our
next
best
opportunity
in
terms
of
funding
that
is
coming
down
the
road
that
might
be
available.
C
I
You
very
much
it
was
just
to
follow
up
on
one
of
the
questions
from
councillor
Shankar
relating
to
the
transportation
plan
and
and
OC
Transpo
I.
Thank
you
for
the
answer
about
the
new
language.
That's
put
into
the
agreements.
We
know
some
difficulty
with
some
events
last
year
on
the
collection
of
fees
relating
to
those
difficulties.
Are
we
one
collecting
fees
for
that
service
before
the
provided
or
we
gonna
be
waiting
till
after
the
provision
of
the
service?
Two
o'clock
Duffy.
C
I'm
through
you,
mr.
chan,
our
understanding
at
this
pipeline
stand
is
not
collecting
the
fees
for
other
city
services,
and
most
of
these
would
be
identified
at
the
time
of
especially
for
the
large
events,
seat,
reviews
and
would
be
paid
directly
to
OCE
or
paramedics
or
police.
At
this
point,
so
we
don't
have
an
understanding,
a
direction
at
this
point
that
we
would
collect
that
source.
We
would
not
necessarily
know
the
actual
costs
and
when
currently
that
would
be
worked
out
by
OSI
staff
and
invoice
directly
to
the
group.
Okay,
thank
you
very
much.
A
Coming
off
the
canal
onto
the
site.
You
know
I,
remember
some
of
the
critics
of
this
plan
had
this
doom
and
doom
that
doom
and
gloom
scenario
that
you
know
they
McKeen's
Metro,
was
going
to
close
down.
The
Loblaws
was
going
to
be
killed
by
Whole
Foods.
In
fact,
both
of
those
properties
I
went
through
massive
renovations
and
they're
competing
in
the
competing
very
well.
They
found
their
niche
markets
the
same
with
Cattlemen's
I.
A
Remember
some
people
saying
what's
going
to
kill
kettlemans
kettlemans
doubled
in
capacity
it's
a
much
nicer
story
today
than
it
was
before.
I
think
the
you
know.
I
often
you
know
I
won't
do
this,
but
I
often
have
a
chuckle
when
I
run
into
friends
of
Lansdowne,
who
are
going
and
shopping
at
some
of
the
stores
are
going
to
city
folk
and
so
on
and
they've
begun.
Jim
Lee
said
you
know
what
the
thing
actually
has
worked
out
quite
well.
A
I
think
there
was
a
lot
of
negativity,
because
you
know
they
were
treating
this
30
acre
site
of
asphalt
and
crumbling
buildings
of
some
sacred
site
when
in
fact
it
was
a
civic
harassment.
You
know
we
had
not
put
enough
money
into
the
upkeep.
The
only
building
that
got
any
attention
over
the
years
was
the
Aberdeen
pavilion
and
we
saved
that
from
the
wrecking
ball.
The
rest
of
the
buildings
were
condemned.
The
Coliseum
building
you
couldn't
go
on
the
second
floor
because
it
was
condemned.
A
The
Kurla
drone
was
shut
down,
the
food,
fair
building
was
shut
down
and
demolished,
and
we've
replaced
all
that
asphalt
with.
You
know
this
wonderful
great
lawn
the
trees
which
I
know
you're
replanting,
a
number
of
them
in
your
area
that
didn't
survive
the
winter.
But
when
you
look
at
the
farmers
market
area,
it's
now,
the
trees
are
starting
to
get
mature
and
grow.
The
community
gardens
by
the
horticultural
building
are
flourishing.
A
You
know,
I
think
even
after
events
like
the
Asian
market,
which
I
went
to
on
two
occasions
and
FIFA,
and
so
on,
the
grass
comes
right
back
and
it's.
The
berm
has
created
a
wonderful
opportunity
for
people
to
watch
concerts
and
toboggan
in
the
wintertime.
So
it
really
has
become
this
year.
Law,
year-round
activity,
I
think
some
of
the
challenges
that
we
face
are
the
lunch.
A
Crowds
probably
need
those
office
buildings
that
office
building
due
to
get
fitted
up
and
filled
up
the
farmers
market
I
believe
that
they
still
do
Wednesdays
and
Fridays,
or
is
it
just
Sundays
I?
Don't
know
who
can
tell
me
is
that
the
farmers
markets
so
very
fact,
I'm
asking
that
shows
that
there's
a
marketing
problem
just.
A
It
used
to
be
last
year,
Wednesdays
and
Fridays.
I
forever
would
tell
Andy
and
others
I
said
why?
Don't
you
get
a
big
sign
that
says
open
also
on
Wednesdays
and
Fridays,
because
most
people
didn't
know
it
was
so
I've
been
to
the
farmers
market
a
number
of
times
this
this
summer
and
they're
doing
a
booming
business,
and
it
looks
great
so
I'm
very,
very
proud
of
the
the
partnership
that
we
have
worked
out.
I.
A
Think
financially,
the
plan
is
working,
better
I
think
logistically
from
a
transportation
point
of
view,
it's
working
well,
just
as
we
were
speaking
I
received
an
email
saying,
the
redblacks
game
is
sold
out,
so
I'm
glad
I
bought
my
tickets
earlier
this
month
and
I
think
the
success
we've
seen
of
Fury
and
FIFA
and
and
the
amateur
clubs
using
the
facility
has
been
great.
So
congratulations
to
our
partners.
Thank
you
for
your
patience.
A
Thank
you
for
your
thick
skin
and
all
that
you
had
to
put
up
with,
but
I
think
it
was
all
worth
it
in
the
end.
I
hope
you
believe
so
as
well
and
I
look
forward
to
continuing
the
positive
relationship.
So
we
have
three
recommendations
before
us
on
the
report.
Okay,
thank
you
very
much.
Lc
beaucoup.
Our
final
item
on
the
agenda
is
sad.
Bashir,
giving
us
an
Ottawa
economic
update.
A
I
thought
it
was
important,
given
the
turmoil
that's
taking
place
in
in
the
world
around
us
that
we
often
simply
receive
this
report
and
we
don't
go
in-depth
because,
obviously
we
want
to
ensure
that
the
health
of
our
economy
remains
strong
and
the
jobs
of
the
future
are
created
and
mr.
Bashir
working
with
invest
all
on
other
groups
has
done
a
very
good
job,
summarizing
the
status
of
our
economy
for
the
month
of
July
2016,
so
as
they're
getting
ready
for
that
I
believe
there
are
no
other
items
on
the
agenda.
L
Thank
You
mr.
chair
and
good
morning
councillors.
The
intent
of
this
brief
slide
deck.
An
exciting
run.
Full
of
data
is
to
review
some
key
metrics
that
are
used
in
the
assessment
of
the
economic
health
of
our
region,
and
it's
important
to
remember
that.
There's
no
shortage
of
data
that
can
consume
us
just
this
week
alone.
We
have
eight
economic
reports
coming
out
that
are
going
to
fluctuate
the
equity
markets,
but
the
metrics
we
use
report
on
Ottawa
are
a
bit
more
orthodox.
L
In
a
North
American
context,
our
US
economy
is
even
more
modest
and
in
a
truly
global
context,
we
are
one
of
the
smallest
g20
capital.
Why
is
this
comparison
important?
It
is
because
we
compete
with
these
regions
that
have
much
larger
internal
economies
because
of
their
populations
as
well
as
often
more
resources
to
suspend
to
incent
economic
development.
At
the
same
time,
in
economic
and
Ottawa
is
in
the
headline
for
a
positive
business
story,
a
new
tech
invention
or
a
new
innovation
company.
We
know
that
we
punch
well
above
a
relatively
low
economic
weight.
L
The
size
of
our
local
economy
is
not
the
end
goal,
but
instead
how
well
that
translates
for
our
citizens.
Our
GDP
per
capita
remains
amongst
the
highest.
That
shows
a
more
balanced
distribution
of
wealth
in
this
region
and
why?
One
of
the
reasons
money
sense
magazine
ranked
Ottawa
as
the
top
Canadian
city
to
live
in
2016
quality
of
life
is
also
a
key
differentiating
factor
that
helps.
Organizations
like
invest
Ottawa
make
the
case
for
employers
to
locate
here
and
for
talent
to
consider
Ottawa.
L
Since
then,
Ottawa
GDP
is
on
the
upper
track,
and
this
is
a
testament
to
the
private
sector
investment,
including
the
technology
sector
that
continues
to
perform.
Well,
some
of
the
investments
fueling.
The
growth
in
our
region
are
listed
on
the
slide
above,
which,
for
a
mere
1
million
population
city,
is
quite
an
impressive
record.
This
list,
of
course,
does
not
include
new,
exciting
developments
in
the
pipeline,
including
zippy.
The
new
are
of
a
hospital
on
the
Burton
flats,
which
will
continue
this
trend.
L
Health
and
education
sector
has
been
consistently
adding
new
jobs
and
now
rivals
public
administration,
as
the
largest
industry
in
the
Ottawa
CMA
aging.
Demographics
in
Ottawa
is
simultaneously
placing
pressure
on
and
creating
opportunities
within
the
healthcare
system.
According
to
the
recent
figures,
the
Ottawa
Hospital
employs
more
than
15,000
physicians,
nurses
and
healthcare
professionals.
The
Queen's
were
caught
in
four
thousand
and
Royal
Ottawa
1,700
employees.
Likewise,
the
Ottawa
post-secondary
institutions
employ
more
than
10,000
people,
while
the
school
boards,
an
additional
14,000
health
and
education
sector,
adds
to
the
quality
of
life
of
our
region.
L
So
it
is
a
positive
sign
to
see
economic
growth
in
this
area.
In
fact,
it
is
the
first
time
in
the
recent
history
that
the
sector
has
surpassed
the
public
administration
in
its
employment.
However,
both
of
these
are
heavily
dependent
on
senior
levels
of
government
funding
and
hence
they
have
a
tendency
to
fluctuate
compared
to
the
wild
unemployment
swings
in
the
90s.
The
slide
in
front
of
you
is
a
relatively
boring
chart
back
in
1995,
our
unemployment
raised.
L
What's
at
10
percent
and
then
down
to
less
than
6
in
2000,
given
the
2008
financial
crisis,
economists
use
it
for
before-and-after
comparisons,
and
although
right
after
2008,
all
of
us
saw
an
increase
in
its
unemployment
rate,
we
were
well
below
the
provincial
and
national
numbers.
This
is
natural
for
a
capital
city
that
sees
some
growth
in
the
recessionary
period.
When
the
federal
government
is
spending,
we
have
yet
to
see
the
5
percent
unemployment
rate
from
2008,
but
the
trend
line
is
moving
towards
the
right
direction.
L
L
The
housing
start
statistics
indicates
the
number
of
housing
units
that
began
construction
during
a
given
time.
Period
for
Ottawa
housing
starts
are
still
below
the
pre
2008
level,
with
a
relative
balance
between
three
housing
types.
It's
important
to
look
at
both
the
building
permits
and
housing
starts
in
conjunction
to
determine
the
confidence
level
in
the
local
economy.
The
building
permit
statistic
is
an
estimate
of
the
number
of
housing
starts
new
housing
units
that
have
been
issued
a
permit
during
a
given
month.
L
If
more
building
permits
are
issued,
it
may
be
assumed
that
your
investment
is
being
allocated
to
the
Ottawa
market.
A
decline
in
the
number
of
housing
starts
relative
to
the
building
permits
may
indicate
that
planned
construction
is
being
put
off
because
of
unfavorable
economic
conditions
for
Ottawa.
Generally
speaking,
residential
permit
activity
has
remained
stable
over
the
last
few
years
at
around
1.1
to
1.2
billion
dollars
annually.
However,
the
value
of
building
permits
issued
to
date
in
2016
is
trending
significantly
up
up
the
same
period.
L
This
is
a
really
important
metric
housing.
Affordability
for
Ottawa,
especially
when
it
comes
to
attracting
people.
Rbc,
has
been
compiling
this
data
since
1985
the
higher
the
reading,
the
less
affordable
is
the
home.
For
example,
a
reading
of
32%
would
mean
that
including
mortgage
payment
utilities
and
property
taxes,
it
takes
32
percent
of
a
typical
household
income
to
spend
on
their
house.
L
Veera
Maine
is
one
of
the
most
affordable
place
in
Canada
to
purchase
a
home,
while
the
chart
may
suggest
that
folks
in
Vancouver
are
probably
taking
two
jobs
and
skipping
meals
to
pay
off
their
mortgage
for
a
single
home
vacancy
level.
Vacancy
level
is
another
important
way
to
gauge
the
strength
of
the
local
economy.
The
most
recent
numbers
for
2016
suggest
that
Ottawa
continues
to
boast
more
office
office
vacancy
than
its
Canadian
counterparts.
L
However,
compared
to
pre
2008
levels,
vacancy
rate
remain
high.
It's
important
to
make
a
special
mention
of
the
downtown
Ottawa,
which
has
traditionally
been
a
competitive
office
market,
but
experiencing
challenges
specifically
for
its
Class
B
and
C
inventory,
and
two
main
reasons
that
are
driving
that
high
vacancy
in
the
downtown
core
for
Class,
B
and
C,
one
that
includes
the
consolidation
of
the
federal
footprint,
as
well
as
the
federal
workplace
guidelines,
are
called
for
more
collaborative
space
and
reduced
square
footage
per
employee.
L
As
we
know,
tourism
is
one
of
our
main
economic
drivers
and
helps
to
somewhat
cushion
the
fluctuations
in
the
economy.
We
have
roughly
similar
levels
of
same
day
and
overnight
stays,
but
it's
the
overnight
stays
that
we
pursue.
Given
the
economic
benefits,
not
every
visitor
to
Ottawa
has
the
same
spending
potential.
A
vast
majority
of
visitors
to
Ottawa
are
fellow
Canadians,
with
half
of
them
in
the
VFR
category,
which
is
visiting
families
and
relatives.
L
Many
of
the
VFR
visitors
are
less
likely
to
stay
in
hotels
and
spend
the
same
way
as
visitors
in
the
business
and
pleasure
category.
So
an
international
visitor
coming
to
Ottawa
for
work
and
staying
extra
for
pleasure
would
perhaps
be
an
ideal
visitor
for
us,
and
it's
no
surprise
that
Ottawa
tourism
works
on
creating
such
opportunities.
Working
alongside
with
the
Shaw
Center.
L
Ottawa
is
a
high-performing
market
when
it
comes
to
hotel
occupancy,
and
it's
no
surprise
that
we
are
seeing
a
small
influx
of
new
hotel
developments,
both
in
and
out
of
the
downtown
core
new
hotel
developments,
such
as
the
and
as
boutique
hotel,
the
all
property
and
a
few
others
are
expected
to
add
another
1,200
rooms
to
the
inventory.
This
does
not
include
any
big
major
hotel
development
at
lebreton
flats
and
as
we
get
the
new
properties
online,
the
room
occupancy
rate
can
experience
some
pressure.
L
However,
with
initiatives
such
as
2017
major
events
attraction
partnership
without
over
to
ISM,
this
industry
is
planning
to
continue
its
growth
trajectory,
particularly
with
the
Canadian
dollar
expected
to
remain
lower
than
the
US
dollar
for
the
foreseeable
future
and,
lastly,
some
key
messages.
All
of
those
economies.
Economic
outlook
is
positive.
That's
all
the
major
researchers
are
forecasting.
The
industry.
Diversification
is
key
to
make
sure
that
we
can
withstand
the
fluctuations
in
the
economy.
Housing,
affordability
is
a
differentiating
factor
for
Ottawa.
L
A
Great
thank
you
questions
to
mr.
Bashir
the
presentation.
Well,
thank
you
a
lot.
It's
it's
helpful
to
put
all
that
in
context,
in
particular
with
the
affordability.
I
know,
BC
and
Vancouver,
going
through
some
real
challenges
with
respect
to
affordability
and
that's
one
of
the
selling
points
we
have
as
a
city
when
we
go
out
through
trade
delegations
and
invest
Ottawa
and
we've
seen
Bruce
Lazenby's.
A
G
Can
I
just
ask,
and
you
remind
me
of
Bruce's
why
Ottawa,
which
I
think
was
phenomenal,
so
if
mr.
Bashir,
if
you
could
provide
us
with
this
PowerPoint
and
that
one
think
it
would
be
helpful
because
I
mean
we
have
all
kinds
of
opportunities
to
help,
you
sell,
Ottawa
and
and
I
think
that
this
is
I
really
like
the
information
and
it's
different
than
what
you've
given
us
before.
Thank
you
and.
