B
You
mr.
chair
October,
2nd
of
2014,
this
body
took
the
initiative
to
decriminalize
small
amounts
of
cannabis,
with
30
grams
or
less
on
that
was
done
by
then
councilman
Kenney.
Now,
our
mayor
and
this,
this
vital
real
leadership
was
the
largest
city
in
the
United
States
to
actually
decriminalize
small
amounts
of
marijuana
at
that
time
was
estimated
about.
B
Seven
million
dollars
per
year
would
be
saved
by
taking
this
action
on
just
over
the
past
three
years
have
been
9,000
fewer
arrests
based
on
this
legislation,
I
made
by
this
body,
which
was
about
a
75%
of
reduction
I'm.
In
addition,
the
ACLU
has
stated
that
in
the
african-americans
are
eight
times
more
likely
to
be
arrested
than
other
ethnicities
based
on
cannabis
and
a
number
of
other
states
throughout
the
country
have
decriminalized
cannabis.
B
However,
at
the
federal
level
I
still,
it
is
still
a
Schedule
one
drug
and
so
senator
Booker's
bill
Senate
bill
1689,
also
known
as
their
marijuana
justice
act,
seeks
to
reverse
decades
of
failed
drug
policy
that
has
disproportionately
impacted
communities
of
color.
It
also
allow
us
to
use
bail
cannabis
throughout
the
nation
for
those
who
are
dealing
with
some
of
the
ailments
I
just
just
like
autism,
ALS
and
cancer
and
I
believe
that
follow
the
leadership
of
this
body
will
now
have
an
opportunity
at
the
federal
level,
to
also
decriminalize
cannabis.
