Councilman Bill Greenlee (At Large) led presentation on behalf of Council President Darrell Clarke (5th District) honoring North Philadelphia's Odath Baker on his 102nd birthday and congratulating him on his stellar voting record. Mr. Baker has voted in every election since the 1940s.

him
for
his
stellar
voting
record,
whereas
Oda,

faker
was
born
on
December
6
1916,
one
of
12
children
in
Georgia,
he
never
completed
high
school
but
managed
to
make
a
living
as
a
shoemaker
earning
19
dollars
a
week
in
1942,
which
he
said
was
pretty
good
money.

the

Baker
married
his
lovely
wife
on
his
21st
birthday
and
to
their

born
three
wonderful
children.

grandchildren
and

great-grandchildren,

moved
to

Bailey
Street
in
Philadelphia

African
American
homeowner

the

He
was
employed
for
four
decades
at
the
camel
soup
company
and
he

worked
for
ten
years
as
a
crossing
guard,
a
pillar
of
his
community.

Baker
served
as
a
committee
person
for
five
years.
He
was
well
known
as
a
political
activist
and
spreading
the
word
to
get
out
the
vote.

recovery,

and

and

him

wonderful

therefore,

it
resolved
by
the
Council
of
the
City
of
Philadelphia
that
we
hereby
honor
and
congratulate
mr.
Otis
Becker
on
his
memorable
occasion
of
his
one
hundred
and
second
birthday
and
for
his
stellar
voting
record
here
in
the
city
of
Philadelphia,
be
it
further
resolved
that
an
engrossed
copy
of
this
resolution
be
presented
to
mr.
