B
Thank
you.
Council
president,
today
we're
honoring
the
legacy
of
the
joseph
fox
bookshop,
a
great
contributor
to
the
literary
culture
of
philadelphia,
joseph
fox,
the
founder,
started,
selling
books
in
1951
71
years
ago
in
1990,
michael's
son
took
over
the
running
of
the
bookshop,
but
fox
bookshop,
really
prided
itself
on
an
excellent
children's
section,
architectural
section
and
many
others.
It
was
a
small
mom
and
pop
book
shop
like
if
some
of
you
remember
that
small
little
book
shop
in
the
movie
with
tom
hanks
you've
got
mail.
B
B
While
the
office
buildings,
close
they've,
lost
a
lot
of
potential
customers
and
they're
also
going
to
retire,
but
the
positive
news
is
they
had
an
amazing
run
in
2020
when
you
look
at
the
average
lifespan
of
a
business,
a
large
business
according
to
standard
poor's,
it's
21
years,
in
fact
down
from
32
years
in
1965,
but
for
a
small
business,
the
numbers
are
very
different.
The
average
lifespan
of
a
small
business
is
eight
years
fox,
was
in
business
for
71
years
and
was
the
oldest
bookstore
in
the
city
of
philadelphia.
