bill

Nine
one
heard
this
morning
as
a
result
of
the
challenges
that
we
are
continuing
to
face
as
it
relates
to
covet
19
and
many
companies
shifting
from
working
in
their
commercial
spaces
to
work
from
home,
but
also
reduced
foot
traffic
on
our
commercial
corridors
across
the
city.
Like
many
businesses,
newsstands
are
facing
some
incredibly
challenging
times.

So
after
consulting
with
various
stakeholders,
many
of
our
colleagues
and
constituents
I
introduce
bill
number
five:
nine,
which
would
expand
the
items
that
newsstands
in
philadelphia
may
sell
and
offer.
This
bill
is
just
one
part
of
the
process
to
help
philadelphians
succeed
during
this
incredibly
challenging
time.

Like
I
stated
previously,
the
bill
would
allow
newsstands
to
sell
or
offer
for
sale
additional
items,
including
septa
key
cards
tickets
to
bus
service
hand.
Sanitizers
face
masks,
toiletries.
You
know
the
all-important
ppe
and
specific
non-prescription
medication.
The
bill
would
also
permit
newsstands
to
provide
cell
phone
charging
stations
based
on
the
ongoing
conversations.
We
continue
to
have
with
stakeholders
and
the
administration,
namely
the
health
department,
the
streets
department
and
the
water
department.

In
order
to
sell
coffee,
newsstands
would
have
had
to
receive
permits
and
approval
from
the
health
department
and
then
construction
permits
to
build
sinks
in
newsstands
from
the
streets
department
and
the
water
department.
So
this
amendment
will
allow
newsstands
to
sell
and
offer
the
other
items
that
were
included
in
the
bill
without
requiring
additional
construction
work
and
permits
from
the
health
department
from
streets
and
from
water,
so
the
witnesses
that
we'll
have
for
this
particular
bill.

a
lot
of
expertise
to
offer
both
on
what
we
are
currently
doing
in
these
areas,
as
well
as
what
this
bill
will
change
in
regards
to
what
items
newsstands
may
offer
and
sell.
So
it
is
my
hope

this

a
positive
conversation
focused
on
solutions
for
newsstands
that
will
help
us
create
an
economically
resilient,
economically,
vibrant
and
healthy
city.

bill

newsstands

sell

offer

additional

including
