From YouTube: Councilman Taubenberger, Mayor, and Philadelphia Union Announce "Sister City" Match 6-15-2018

Councilman Al Taubenberger (At Large) was joined by Mayor Jim Kenney and representatives of the Philadelphia Union MLS team for the announcement of the inaugural "Sister Cities Friendly" soccer match between the Philadelphia Union and Eintracht Frankfurt, a professional soccer club in Germany's top flight Bundesliga soccer league and winners of this year's German Cup Trophy.
A portion of the proceeds sold by city related agencies for this inaugural sporting event will benefit Philadelphia's "Sister Cities" program, which links Philadelphia to the world by creating special relationships with the ten Sister and Partnership cities, one of which is Frankfurt, Germany.
At the heart of the Sister Cities program is an agreement signed by the mayors of each city confirming their commitment, and that of their successors, to the program. Each Sister City agrees to send and receive delegations of political and business leaders, arts and cultural representatives, educators, technical experts and students.
The match will occur July 14, 2018 at Talen Energy Stadium in Chester, PA

somebody

said
that
sports
is
really
brings
happiness
to
people
well
I.
Hopefully,
what
we're
about
to
announce
will
bring
some
happiness
and
some
good
interchange,
culturally
business-wise,
with
our
sister
city,
to
begin
this
I
would
I
would
like
to
ask
my
colleagues
councilman
Kenyatta
Johnson,
councilman
Greeley
and
City
Commissioner
Lisa
D
Lee,
to
join
me
here
at
the
podium.

First
and
foremost,
I
like
to
thank
Mayor
Jim
Kenny,
a
union
chief
business,
official
officer,
Tim
McDermott
and
business
development
officer
called
Churkin
and
Siobhan
Lyons.
Although
Siobhan
is
not
here
today,
she
is
with
the
Philadelphia
Sister
Cities
program,
who
unfortunately
couldn't
be
with
us.
Without
these
talented,
committed
individuals,
this
event
would
never
happen
and
also
as
a
councilman
and
that's
why
I
had
my
colleagues
come
forward.

also
are
a
bastion
of
support
when
you
have
ideas
like
this,
we're
here
today
to
formally
announce
the
inaugural
Sister
Cities
friendly
soccer
match
between
the
Philadelphia
Union
and
Germany's
Eintracht
Frankfurt
professional
soccer
team
of
the
Bundesliga
and,
most
recently
they
are
the
winners
of
the
very
prestigious
and
no
one
expected
them
to
do
this,
something
like
similar
coming
from
the
NFL.
They
won
the
German
soccer
Papa.
They
are
the
National
Chamber.

The
pup
itself
is
portable
Kyle
and
we
have
a
very
small
replica
of
it.
But
if
you,
if
you
anyone
wants
to
pick
it
up,
it's
it's
actually
quite
heavy.
Our
soccer
game
really
was
an
outgrowth
of
the
development
that
Mayor
Kenny
had
with
our
sister
city
frankfort.
I
toughed
to
really
show
that
there
are
sister
cities
and
they
do
things
together.
What
greater
opportunity
to
end
to
have
a
professional
soccer
match
between
our
two
cities.
The
game
will
take
place
on
Saturday
July,
the
14th
at
7
p.m.
A
at
Talon,
Stadium,
home
of
our
beloved
Philadelphia
Union.
The
game
will
be
live
stream
the
match,
but
it's
our
intent
to
pack
the
stands
with
as
many
soccer
fans
as
possible.
It's
really
been
a
labor
of
love
for
me
to
make
this
long-held
dream
of
international
friendly
soccer
match
between
the
Philadelphia
Union
and
a
top-flight
German
team.

reality.
I
am
a
son
of
German
immigrants,
both
my
mom
and
dad
were
born
in
Germany.
A
They
were
great
soccer
fans
and
with
that,
have
given
me
a
great
appreciation
and
knowledge
of
the
Abdurrahman
and
its
people,
and
it's
pretty
good.
So
he
kind
of
be
skin-tight
reckon
I
can
speak
a
little
German
when
that's
when
it's
necessary
in
2016,
along
with
the
Commerce
director,
Howard
Epps
and
his
team,
we
traveled
to
Frankfurt
and
other
important
cities
of
Germany
in
order
to
further
strengthen
international
trade,
tourism
and
education,
cultural
exchange
programs
and
also
having
students
come
back
and
forth,
and
that's
also
been
a
great
hallmark
of
this.

trip
was
a
great
success.
Today's
announcement
is
a
direct
result
of
that
opportunity.
The
city's
friendly
is
is
really
something
very
special.
Indeed.
It
is
known
throughout
the
soccer
world
to
have
friendly
matches
and
they
can
develop
bonds
that
go
far
beyond
the
game
itself.
Of
course,
the
Philadelphia
Sister
Cities
program
is
the
catalyst
and
beneficiary
of
this
great
sporting
event.

of
the
very

to
strengthen
it

The
timing
of
our
inaugural
Sister,
Cities
friendly,
couldn't
be
better.
Just
recently,
we
announced
like
yesterday
that
the
World
Cup
soccer
matches
of
2026
will
be
held
in
the
United
States.

will
be
held
in
Mexico
and
also
in
Canada.
This
is
very
interesting
to
have
three
countries
host.
This
I
think
it's
great
opportunity
also.
It
gives
the
United
States
a
buy
to
actually
qualify
for
the
World
Cup
and
that's
important
one
need
only
to
look
at
the
crowded
used
soccer
fields
across
America
to
see
how
important
this
sport
is
taken
and
how
much
of
a
hold
it
is
taking.
Soccer
is
soaring.

Cup
announcement
is
great,

anyone

following
sports
right
now,
the
FIFA
World
Cup
games
are
going
on
and
I'd

special

mayor

about

from

first
date

office
and

Philadelphia
unity
cup,
which
creates
a

our
diversity.

love
for
what
the

world
calls
football

call
soccer
and
Mayor
Kenny
and
his
administration
and
his
team
has
really
developed
this
into
something
special
indeed,

take,

beloved
Philadelphia,
Union,
soccer
team
and
I
think
it's
something
that
will
continue
to
build
over
the
years.

is
something
that

well
become
a
tradition.

the
United
States,

Canada
and
Mexico,
was
awarded
the
World
Cup.

is
something
really
to
build
on
and
I
hope,

it

my
dedication
to
help
the
mayor

team

see
if
we
could
host
one
of
those
games
in
2026,
because
actually
it's
also
the

it
is
a
anniversary,

important
anniversary
of
our
birth
of
our
country,

happened
right
here
in
Philadelphia.

The
game,

is
just
one
month
away,
will
feature
our
own
Philadelphia
Union
and

German
football
culture
Cup
champion.
Eintracht
Frankfurt
Philadelphia
is
a
long
history
as
an
international
City,
and
our
diversity
has
always
been
a
large
part
of
our
city's
identity.
Our
connections
around
the
world
expand
beyond
those
held
by
individuals
reaching
into
international
business
communities
and
local
governments.

Germany
was,
and
continues
to
be,
a
strong
partner
for
Philadelphia
and
a
strong
ally
for
the
United
States.
Hopefully,
that
will
continue
our
sister
city
Frankfurt
holds
a
special
place
amongst
our
international
partnerships.
When

agreement
was
signed
in
July
of
2015,
it
was
Philadelphia's
first
new
sister
city
agreement
in
almost
23
years,
since
the
signing
there
have
been
several
inbound
and
outbound
delegation
visits,
including
the
trade
and
investment
mission
to
Frankfurt,
led
by
commerce,
director
Harold
Epps
at
September
of
2016.

During
that
trip,
councilman
talbin,
Berger
and
others
initiated
the
discussion
about
hosting
the
Frankfurt
team
in
Philadelphia
to
play
the
Union
as
a
lifelong
sports
fan
I'm
excited
to
see
our
relationship
grow
through
sports
and
soccer
in
particular.
Here
in
Philadelphia
is
al
mentioned.
We
lost
the
Philadelphia
unity
cup
now
entering
its
third
season
to
bring
the
city's
neighborhoods
together
and
celebrate
our
diverse
immigrant
communities
through
football
is
my
hope
that
the
sister
city
game
will
do
the
same
for
Philadelphia
and
Frankfurt.

like
this
are
a
great
opportunity
to
promote
the
sister
city
relationship
between
Philadelphia
and
Frankfurt,
and
highlight
the
other
programs
that
support
the
partnership
such
a
successful
education,
cultural
and
tourism
exchanges.

helped
make
this
possible,
starting
with
Councilman
talbin
Berger,
where
I'm
confident
he's
biggest
cheerleader
in
Philadelphia
I'm,
absolutely
sure
that
Carl
Karcher
could

filthy
Union,

well
as
the
presidents
of
the
German
Clubs
of
Philadelphia,
have
also
been
instrumental
I
wish
both
teams
good
luck.

is
really
important
that
we
do
these

long

and

going

Washington
now

kind

isolating
us
from
the
rest

Canada

we
need
two
cities
to
show
that
we're
still
open
to
the
world
that
we're
diverse,
that
we're
welcoming
and
that
we're
not
going
to
allow
what

nonsense
is
going
on
in
Washington
to
interfere
with
our
relationships
that
have
been
long
time
building
so
I
want
to
wish
both
teams.

the

in
the
very
beginning
in
the
1990s.
So
where
we

signed

mayor

will
become
law
and

Because
of
your
idea
and
your
thought
and
your
guts
to
ask
the
question:
we
now
have
a
new
city
ordinance
that
stops
smoking
at
bus
shelters.
