Former state representative Michael J. Driscoll was sworn in today as a new member of Philadelphia City Council, representing the 6th Council District in Northeast Philadelphia.

Following his victory in the special election held on May 17, Driscoll resigned his PA House seat representing the 173rd District, which he had held since 2015. In addition, Councilmember Driscoll's prior public service includes serving as deputy secretary of the Pennsylvania Department of General Services under Governor Robert Casey, Sr. Driscoll attended LaSalle University and the University of Pennsylvania, and resides in the Torresdale neighborhood with his wife and five children.

“I’m proud to take the oath of office and join City Council, representing the people of Northeast Philadelphia and the 6th District,” Driscoll said. “I feel as though my entire public service career has prepared me for this moment, and I cannot wait to get to work. The people of the Great Northeast and 6th District need an advocate, and I plan to serve them with all the passion, energy and experience I have.”
