Philadelphia, May 17, 2017 – Mayor Jim Kenney, Council President Darrell L. Clarke (5th District), and Councilwoman Cherelle Parker (9th District) on Wednesday joined City housing officials and affordable housing advocates in Olney to celebrate fresh funding for key City housing preservation assistance programs.
Thousands of Philadelphians on waiting lists for the Philadelphia Housing Development Corporation’s (PHDC) Basic Systems Repair Program (BSRP), Adaptive Modifications Program (AMP), and Weatherization Assistance Program (WAP) will soon receive urgent home repairs and modifications that will allow them to remain in their houses for years to come. The first of many residents have begun receiving assistance because of $100 million authorized by City Council last year to eliminate the three-to-five year waiting lists for programs that assist with home repairs, long-term disability modifications, and energy-efficiency weatherization.

be
happy
about
the
improvements
that
we've
seen
taking
place
here,
because
these
residents
get
a
chance

see
their
tax
dollars
actually
at
work
in
their
neighborhoods.
And
that's
you
so
you
all
get
that
around
them.

it
actually
right
in
my
neighborhood,
so
we're
very
excited
about
it.
What
is
just
know
quickly
for
the
record
of
that?
You
know
that
the
city
of
Philadelphia
has
one
of
the
highest
home
ownership
rates
in
patients.
We
have
about
52%
home
ownership
rate
and
I'm
extremely
proud
of
all
the
residents
here.
I
want.
You
know
the
district
that
you
live
in
and
I
had
the
great
unobservant
as
a
61%
home
ownership
rate,
so
it
is
even
higher
than
a
city
and
some
portions
of
our
region.
A
That
number
goes
up
in
73
percent,
so
while
I
am
always
happy
and
excited
when
we
see
new
development
taking
place
in
our
neighborhood

thought

driven

much
as
I
could

on
the
issue

home
preservation,
because
the
new
development
is
nice,
but
we've
gotta
find
a
way
to
get
resources
in
neighborhoods

preserve
what
we

heart
of
our
tax
base.

pay
your
property
taxes
for
many
years
and
in
fact,
that
the
city
of
Philadelphia's
now
get
to
get
back
a
little
of
what
you've
been
doing
all

these
years.

important
anytime,
so
thank

community
neighborhood
preservation,
let's
make
it

votes

public
policy
in
this
vision,

in

qualify
for
certain
programs
that

sponsored

the
government

middle
neighborhood

before
data
needs
to
be
community.

community
sustainability
initiatives,

homes

low-income
Philadelphia.

are
the
program

resources

help
people

vulnerable,

happy

part
of
that,

even
after
the
math
dollars
spent
after
the
dull,
that's
home
is
right.

we're
still
going

they're
still
going
to
be
a
need
for
additional
resources
to
be
able
to
support
the
families
and
not
only
to
preserving
the
homes
that
we
have,
because
you
know
they're
in
poor
condition
and
very
old,

also
to
help
preserve
multifamily
development
and
also
create
new,
affordable
housing
opportunities.

in
