I mean so one I would say is actually wall street is totally aping in to what I'm talking about.

But the question now is: I mean yes, this is valuable, but um to bring this into the financial world, I mean everybody on wall street would say: okay, yes, I get your point, but in order to basically sell this asset or to make this as a profitable, there must be a buyer for this. So where is the buyer in in this story and how does the whole procedure? What does the whole procedure look like.

Yeah, so let's zoom back I mean so one I would say is actually wall street is totally aping in to what I'm talking about wall street itself is creating a market, a public market for companies that own these ecological assets. There was a bunch of news about it. Folks can google, you know. Wall street, natural capital, market and stuff will come up. So I'm a firm believer that we need to do this in a decentralized democratized way.

You know we can't sort of like we need to out out cooperate the competition there and create uh you know an eco-fintech infrastructure. That is really you know: high quality and community governed, but that's sort of an ideological or philosophical perspective. The market is already moving this direction, whether or not defy is in on it. You know this is the future. You know that like this is where capitalism is moving right. It's moving in this direction for one reason or the other.

So now, let's unpack, what does that mean in terms of the buy side and the sell side and the different actors, and to think about this? Let's go back to carbon right because that's where the go to market is, you know we we recently are we're launching the nature carbon time into the cosmos ecosystem, the ibc ecosystem.

um So it's sort of like a living breathing thing that's been happening and there's been governance on osmosis around it. So I think this will be more practical for folks to dig their teeth into, so um carbon credits represent sort of the um the a commodity that represents the right for a business to retire, that carbon credit and cancel emissions that are on their balance sheet. So a fundamental part of the understanding that people need to understand in these emerging markets is.

It is now widely at least culturally expected and accepted, as well as increasingly regulated that companies need to account for their carbon emissions, have a plan to reduce those carbon emissions and um be adhering to that plan in order to access basic um basic business functions like insurance or lending products right, and so increasingly, this is all to say that it's in the fiduciary duty of corporate executives to be balancing their carbon budget, and that is just how it is now.

I mean this: this has been a long 20-plus year process that the corporate world has been undergoing to sort of internalize and accept carbon emissions as an important part of what our is being tracked and accounted for on their balance sheet. But you know we in 2022 here we are. We now live in a world in which companies are accounting for carbon on their balance sheet and the emission and there's a bunch there's a whole complex and fairly esoteric art to how that happens, the good of it, the bad of it.

You know some elements are problematic. Some elements are inspiring it's complicated right and we don't need to go into all of the details there. But that's the basics. Is corporations are accounting for carbon emissions on their balance sheet. That means it's a liability, and so what a carbon credit is is an asset that you can purchase as a company and you can retire and it cancer cancels that liability with an asset. So you have the creation of a new asset class and a commodity right, it's a commodity because it gets used like wheat or oil.

It's not something that you just trade forever. It's a feedstock for economic activity, in this case that economic activity is balancing the carbon budget of a company. In order to meet your fiduciary duty and be able to get insured and get lit, you know qualify for lending and all these other things that companies need to do in order to to sort of stay alive and stay afloat.

This sounds like uh super interesting because um you basically talk about um an emerging demand here that emerged over the past years that you basically have to have these kinds of assets in your portfolio. But is this a thing that is like, or is this the situation like worldwide? So if I'm a u.s company like let's say a large used company and I'm talking to my cfo- will my cfo say: okay, you definitely need like at least um a part of these assets in your portfolio, but would it be completely different?

If I would, I don't know, have a company in china where I don't know this is not a necessity necessity. So um can you talk a little bit about this.

The the markets are global, although it's it's, it is um different in different places. So in europe is the most advanced. uh I guess market. There is a compliance market in the eurozone, uh carbon is trading or was, I haven't, actually checked since the war in ukraine, but carbon was trading above 100 a ton, um so it was like 95 euros or something per ton of carbon and the compliance market, um which was a monumental threshold. When that happened, um it's a big deal.

The price of carbon is a hundred dollars a ton. I mean it's just a big deal. It's kind of uh would yeah so.

It's mind-blowing.

Yeah and carbon uh carbon markets in china do exist. China, china has been implementing um yeah cap and trade uh regulatory market as well that just got stood up about a year ago in the united states. There's different regional carbon markets, but there's also very very strong demand in north america, the united states and canada, as well as sort of latin america, and you know the greater sort of asia-pacific economic zone for car for voluntary carbon markets.

So it's just really important to understand that stakeholders, shareholders are holding companies responsible, even in places that there are not regulatory regimes around enforcing carbon trading. So in the united states there is not a federal level carbon market, although it appears that that's going to be emerging in the coming years. um However, the united states has huge demand for carbon credits, and- and you know, many big companies based in the united states are aggressively purchasing and holding and and retiring carbon credits um voluntarily.

You know these are voluntary carbon markets that you know are sort of like pseudo-regulated, meaning they're, they're regulated because you're entering into contracts about claims, and so, if they're false contracts, there is a legal system that holds everybody accountable to to the asset, that's being purchased and sold, but they're not regulated in the sense that there's sort of like a cap of emissions, that's enforced by the government with some tax regime right.

Instead, it's shareholders and customers who are holding companies responsible for sort of becoming sustainable and that are pushing these massive gains in market acceptance of these carbon assets.
