Alchemy NFT just announced a funding round from the likes of Mark Cuban who clearly sees opportunity in an API layer for NFTs. Rather than pump out derivative after derivative, Alchemy allows users to create stackable layers of value that have use cases in DeFi, real estate, art and much more besides. The secret sauce is Token Script (linked below) and the first implementation of this is an autograph tool for NFTs allowing NFT owners to request and price an autograph from anyone they wish.

first
look
at
who
has
invested
in
this,
so
mark
cuban
has
invested
in
alchemy
nft
because
he
clearly
saw
something
of
value
in
here,
and
I
was
on
top
of
what
was
going
on
with
alchemy
for
some
months
now,
because
I
read
back
in
when
was
it
april,
I
believe
it
was
yeah.
Viktor
zhang,
one
of
the
founders
of
alchemy
wrote
this
medium
post
called
the
rise
of
remix
nfts,
bringing
a
new
liquidity
layer
and
unlimited
utility
to
nfts.

in
this
blog
post,
they
made
the
example
of
a
punk,
buy
a
punk,
and
then
you
could
add
additional
layers
of
value
to
that
punk
in
various
different
ways,
and
the
example
they
gave
was
an
autograph.
So
you
have
a
punk
there's
autographs
by
elon
musk
and
it
gains
value
as
a
result
of
having
that
autograph
attached
to
it,
and
they
said
okay,
what?
If
we
we
add,
mark
cuban's
autograph
to
that
and
then
what?
If?
On
top
of
that,
this
punk
has
been
remixed
or
reimagined
by
people?

Now
that's
another
layer
that
can
sit
on
top
now.
All
of
these
things
normally
would
be
done
by
issuing
a
derivative
a
new
asset
on
top,
but
with
the
alchemy
nft
layer.
This
can
then
be
built
on
top
of
the
existing
entity
in
such
a
way
that,
if
you
do
not
want
those
additional
layers,
you
can
unwrap
them
and
go
back
to
the
original
state.
Now
you
can't
do
that
with
derivatives.
Derivatives
are
just
here's
the
original
asset,
here's
a
new
version
of
it,
a
completely
separate
asset,
but
with
alchemy.
That
is
not
the
case.

One
of
the
projects
I've
been
most
excited
about
is
remark
which
is
bruno
schrock's
project
and
he
wrote
a
really
fascinating
blog
about
art,
legos
rap,
putting
layers
on
top
of
nfts.
This
is
basically
doing
the
same
thing
and
it
may
sound
super
trivial
but
ish,
for
instance,
gary
vee,
who
has
just
bought
a
punk,
and
we
probably
has
more
than
one
punk,
but
he
bought
a
punk
for
a
lot
of
money.

instance,
you
could
remove
that
garyvee
autograph
and
put
your
own
one
on
that'll
be
an
historical
event
that
will
be
recorded
on
the
blockchain,
and
that
will
give
you
some
really
weird
dynamics
in
terms
of
the
history
and
the
provenance
of
these
assets.
Now,
that's
quite
an
extreme
example,
but
starts
to
give
you
an
idea
of
how
this
one
single
asset
can
represent
its
history
visually,
but
also
on
the
blockchain
in
rare
and
un.

and
unusual
ways
now
alchemy
is
a
lot
more
than
just
that,
but
their
fundamental
sales
pitch
is
that
they
are
adding
utility
to
your
nfts
and
allowing
them
to
operate
kind
of
like
apis.
So
the
best
way
to
think
about
this
is
smart
contracts,
open
up
functionality
for
tokens
they're
programmed
in,
but
that's
quite
complicated,
and
it's
also
a
little
bit
kind
of
locked
in,
like
you
have
to
design
it,
and
then
it's
it's
there.

is
building
is
this
utility
called
tokenscript
that
will
allow
there
to
be
an
interface
layer
between
apps
and
end
users,
tokens
that
is
trustless
permissioners,
but
opens
up
a
bunch
of
functionality.
That
can
also
be
changed
over
time
and
it
will
allow
you
to
do
all
sorts
of
weird
and
wonderful
things.
So
they
talk
about
attestations,
so
the
ability
to
just
say
this
is
this
is
really
the
owner.
Or
this
is
the
really
an
event
that
happened.
We
can
remove
well,
we
could
potentially
solve
fake
news.

It's
still
very
kind
of
visionary
statement,
kind
of
stuff
at
the
moment,
but
if
you
go
to
the
tokenscript
site,
what
it
effectively
is
is
the
javascript
xml
framework
which,
as
they
say,
creates
a
layer
between
the
blockchain
and
user
devices.
So
it's
just
this
kind
of
interactive
logic,
layer,
that's
devolving
the
logic
from
the
token
and
moving
it
into
a
place
where
it
can
be
a
lot
easier
to
control
and
a
lot
easier
to
architect
for
different
use.

might
have
and
they've
got
examples
of

which
I
definitely
recommend
looking
into
now,
I'm
going
to
go

all
of
that
at
the

what
I'm
going

look

the

that

fascinating.

piece

puzzle

interesting
and
this

opportunity
to
remix
nfts,
I
think,
is
fascinating,
genuinely
fascinating.

ability
to
put
additional
layers
on
top
of
vanities
are
really
fascinating
because
it
will
probably
kill
the
derivatives
market
stone
dead.

the
provenance

derivatives
should
be

where
the
source
material
in
their
heart-
and

think,
if
you
can
do
that,
then
derivatives
will
be
really
exciting

like

still

very
early.

curious
about
how
these
autographs
are
going
to
work.

certainly
feel
like
there's
room
for
sports
stars,
esports
players
musicians
to
take
advantage
of
this.

don't
know
how
much
an
autograph
is
worth.

asset
is
worth
in
the
secondary
market,
but
what
I
do
know
is
that
if
you
can
start
taking
an
asset,
that's
already
valuable
and
stack
additional
layers
of
value
on
it
that
reflect
its
ownership
and
reflect
its
history
in
a
way
that
is
non-destructive.

is
a
massive
idea.
