A
Thanks
very
much
thanks
a
lot
for
the
opportunity
of
translation
here
very
interesting
in
your
working
groups,
and
it's
it's
an
honor
to
be
here
so
today
we'll
talk
about
a
little
bit
of
data
science.
Research
at
undergraduate
institution,
I'm
currently,
my
main
affiliation
is
that
produced
for
twain,
an
affiliate
member
of
the
asean
system
at
university
of
washington.
A
So
I
will
briefly
introduce
myself
what
purdue
for
university
for
trainees
and
then
we'll
talk
a
little
bit
about
the
research
activity
that
we
do
at
our
institution
and
specifically
the
activities
that
I'm
more
responsible
of
so
I'm
an
assistant
professor
of
the
science
of
applied
statistics
at
who
do
fortune
in
the
department
of
mathematical
sciences.
A
So
purdue
fortune
is
the
largest
university
in
northeast
indiana,
with
about
eight
thousand
nine
thousand
students,
at
least
in
2020.
Psw
is
a
m1
institution
and
focuses
primarily
on
undergraduate
teaching
with
some
master
level
education
in
several
several
several
programs.
A
A
So
recently
we
have
a
split
in
the
two
colleges
from
the
college
of
arts
and
science.
They
became
a
college
of
science
with
dean.
Dr
friedman
college
of
liberals
with
in
dr
badil-
and
we
have
it-
is
in
my
college,
which
is
the
one
on
which
the
department
of
mathematical
sciences
is.
We
have
six
departments,
24
degree
programs,
three
centers
of
excellence,
12
student
organizations
and
a
lot
of
them
have
some
relationship
to
the
data
science
programs.
A
The
lean
part
on
data
science
is
taken
by
the
department
of
mathematical
sciences,
which
is
one
of
the
largest
he
has
about
28
faculty,
including
tech
truck
tenure,
faculty
and
lecturers.
We
have
four
master
degrees,
one
is
on
data
science
and
applied
statistics.
We
have
several
minors
and
certificates,
and
recently
we
have
successful
embassy
mathematics.
A
We
also
used
the
center
of
excellence
in
applied
mathematics
and
statistics,
so
in
one
of
the
largest
team
in
in
our
department
is
the
one
in
you
know,
statistics
and-
and
it
was
professor
zubawik
brother,
chanwan
presuden,
professor
francis
fresozowski,
and
professor
and
myself-
and
there
is
a
nice
picture
with
a
few
months
after
I
arrived
and
because
of
the
success
which
is
basically
with
the
comparison
competition
of
where
our
students
arrive.
A
Second,
so
I'm
very
happy
about
talking
about
this,
so
so
I
was
concentrating
the
in
my
talk
about
like
research
at
institution,
specifically
in
data
science.
So,
as
I
mentioned,
we
are
primarily
devoted
to
undergraduate
teaching,
but
there
is
a
commitment
of
the
university
currently
maintaining
as
well
high
quality
research
through
the
hiring
or
qualified.
A
So
there
are
some
events
at
the
institutional
level,
which
are
very
interesting,
very
important
for
research
programs
across
disciplines,
and
one
is
the
undergraduate
summer
research
program
which
is
which
takes
place
in
the
spring
and
sees
the
participations
of
students
across
departments.
A
We
also
have
some
research
programs
where
students
can,
you
know,
be
supported.
I
have
some
students
support
it
through
that
program
and
do
some
research
with
professors
from
the
school,
maybe
in
interactions
with
the
local
communities,
and
also
we
have
the
centers
of
excellence
which
try
to
provide
research
facilities
to
to
the
interesting
student
as
well
as
the
faculty.
A
So
our
student
population
is
interested
in
finding
mainly
jobs
at
local
companies
and
northeast
indiana
is
a
manufacturer
industries
and
but
there's
also
some
centers
of
research
which
are
in
biology
medicine.
There
are
some
local
local
hospitals
and
research
centers,
for
example,
parkview
med,
pro
lutheran
hospital.
We
also
have
high-tech
defense
companies.
There
are
many
I've
mentioned.
There's
some
retail
areas
va
system
general
dynamics
for
tractors.
A
There
are
many
others
and
we
have
a
lot
of
reference
to
which
we
have
in
our
department,
especially
a
strong
connection
with
our
prior
program.
I
mentioned
like
a
link
of
language
and
groups
with
medical
metro
and
the
central
insurance,
and
the
other
issue
is
that
most
of
the
students
which
come
to
our
campus
are
somehow
work
part-time
during
academic
year
and
they
tend
to
not
have
not
be
available
to
do
research
for
reasons
which
are
independent
of
their
skills
right.
A
So
that's
one
of
the
one
of
them
things
to
say
and
which
are
important.
Of
course,
doing.
Research.
Student
research
at
undergraduate
solutions
has
many
many
challenges
which
are
common
across
fields,
but
there
are
specific
also
to
the
science.
Some
of
our
students
are
mid-career
students,
so
maybe
they
are
doing
some
jobs
and
their
feminists.
They
tend
to
be
interested
only
in
activities
during
class
time.
I
think
this
is
you
know
some
issues
more
of
of
the
faculty
which
have
to
promote
better
certain
activities.
A
Maybe
then
they
are
interested
in
the
jobs
which
of
course
have
some
sort
of
resource
component
as
well,
but
it
might
not
be
perceived
so
by
the
students
work
during
class
time,
as
I
mentioned,
so
they
tend
to
have
a
limited
amount
of
time.
They
communicate
to
interaction
with
their
students,
the
professor.
Maybe
they
don't
care
about
research.
They
care
about.
You
know
getting
their
job,
getting
things
fine
from
the
financial
perspective,
not
because
you
know
having
the
financial
support
to
sustain
your.
A
Your
living
is
more
important
to
research
right.
So
if
we
are
at
the
level
that
there
is
a
choice
which
needs
to
be
made-
and
of
course
sometimes
they
cannot
think
long
term
or
they
have
important
family
situations
that
they
have
to
deal
with.
We
don't
have
a
huge
amount
of
students,
so
8
000
is
good,
but
our
department
is
pretty
big,
but
maybe
we
have
less
than
two
digits
graduating
our
program
every
year.
I
don't
remember
exactly
the
numbers.
A
We
have
the
possibility
to
have
online
students
which
creates
opportunities
about
challenges,
so
we
are
able
to
reach
a
broader,
broader
geographical
era.
Of
course,
there
are
specifics
online
courses
and
maybe
join
them
with
making
them
fair,
with
face-to-face
and
average
components,
and
of
course,
we
all
know
that
it
and
created
for
the
challenges.
A
Of
course,
according
to
the
strategic
plan
of
the
of
the
university
and
the
division
emission
of
the
school,
I
will
mention
some
of
the
things
that
that
that
we
are
that
were
in
place
at
our
campus
so
and
of
which
I'm
responsible,
so
we
are
leading,
so
I
am
responsible
for
the
science
material
and
summer
series,
which
involved
many
researchers
from
many
many
different
areas,
interdisciplinary
areas
and
across
departments
across
schools
international.
A
We
have
some
research-based
courses,
as
we
mentioned,
that
is
important
in
the
previous
previous
presentations,
which
have
a
data
science
component.
We
have
a
different
science
week
at
the
end
of
the
fall,
so
it
is
going
to
be
the
third
edition
I've
been
leading
mathematics
program
programmer
science
community
in
last
year.
A
We
embed
the
student
presentations
new
publication
into
all
these
activities.
We
have
interactions
with
local
authorities
and
top
scientists
which
make
them
come
to
their
classroom
right
or
where
they
could
come
in
person
or
present
online.
We
have
an
outs
high
school
outreach
program
which
is
successful,
service
learning
as
well,
and
we
try
to
support
all
of
these
with
grants,
so
the
science
machine
summer
series
is
in
practice
is
a
summer
series
which
I've
seen
the
participation
of
many
many
resources.
A
As
I
mentioned,
we
try
to
you,
know,
attack
those
challenges
or
solve
those
over
campus
challenges
by
simplifying
the
participation
of
the
students
in
this
activity.
One
of
the
things
is,
you
know,
having
seminars
participating
in
the
classes
with
a
big
interactive
component
and
and
so
on.
It
has
been
very
successful.
A
This
next
week
is
something
which
I
started
when
I
arrived
in
2019.
I
know
we're
gonna
have
the
third
edition
this
last
year
edition
and
involves
keynote
speakers
from
international
international
academic
programs
and
schools.
Last
year
we
have
people
from
berkeley,
mcmaster,
university,
florida
state
and
many
others,
and
so
we
had
also
short
talks
for
the
students.
Those
were
recorded,
pre-recorded
and
posted
online
for
all
the
duration
of
the
program,
postal
presentation
as
well.
A
We
had
a
panel
with
industry
with
industry
partners
and
where
students
could
interact
and
understand
exactly
what
is
needed
like
in
the
in
industrial
company
and
what
is
required
for
for
a
concerted
essence,
expertise.
Many
many
parties,
but
we
liked
also
the
rooms
like
we
had
some.
You
know:
2d
environments,
where
people
were
working
around
and
funding
posts
that
was
a
lot
of
fun
and,
of
course,
a
structured
environment
which
is
common.
So
this
is
something
that
you
know.
A
We
were
very
very
happy
about,
because
we
were
able
to
include
the
most
diverse
communities
across
many
many
many
many
countries
and
institutions.
So
now
I
have
the
numbers
written
somewhere.
So
I
can't
tell
you
about
that,
but
this
is
one
of
the
pictures
that
I
like
the
most
about
all
these
activities.
This
was
a
concentration
on
you
know,
computational
methods
in
in
industrial
maintenance,
mathematical
methods
in
in
biology.
A
Then
I
want
to
talk
a
little
bit
about
systematic
program,
was
very
successful
and
received
a
lot
of
attention
from
you
know:
students
and
international
resources,
with
the
participation
of
local
authorities
like
the
mayor
of
fort
wayne,
the
city
where
I
mean
allen
county
a
commissioner
but
many
many
researchers
from
topic
solutions,
and
so
this
provided
a
way
to
embed
all
the
activities
into
a
large
framework
and
it
came
out
with
so.
There
are
many
many
outcomes
I
talked
about
later
on.
A
We
can
give
you
all
the
you
know,
links
to
all
of
these.
All
of
these
programs
and
another
thing
that
I'm
doing
is
a
college
v
fort
wayne
collaboration.
This
is
this
data
science
show
we
have
recorded
three
presentation
of
three
episodes.
Last
last
year,
we're
gonna
record
a
new
one.
I
think
not
this
upcoming
week,
the
week
after
so
yeah,
we
want
to
somehow
diffuse
the
business
knowledge
to
our
students,
but
also
to
local
communities
by
explaining
what
all
of
this
is
right.
A
So
one
of
the
things
which
came
out
of
the
which
was
embedded
in
mathematics
program
was
his
data
science,
epidemiology
coming
in
course.
So
it's
a
newly
developed
course
which
had
two
two
components
on
the
project-based
course.
It
involved
a
little
bit
of
everything:
some
mathematical
knowledge,
some
statistical
knowledge,
computer
science,
premiere
of
public
health.
So,
as
I
mentioned,
there
were
seminars
in
inside
the
class.
A
There
were
reflections
about
you
know
basic
principles,
so
equivalence
inclusion
and
many
many
many
many
things
you
know
the
reason
being
you
want
to
you
want
to
find
some
sort
of
balance
between.
You
know,
active
research,
teaching
and
you
know
fundamental
values.
Everybody
talked
about
ethics
these
days
here.
A
This
is
an
extract
of
the
outline
of
the
course
and,
of
course
having
so
this
is
so
the
course
the
projects
were
meant
to
favor
interactions
between
people
from
the
most
diverse
backgrounds,
as
we
believe
that,
let's
say
a
key
for
success
in
in
teaching
research
and
every
type
of
scholarship,
I
would
say-
and
of
course
people
with
different
skills
and
interests
were
interacting
in
a
very
productive
way,
and
so
I
mentioned
a
couple
of
or
three
or
four
presentation,
publications
that
we
made
together
with
some
students
and
faculty
advisors
in
mind.
A
Sorry
I
mentioned
here
two
or
three
or
four,
so
there
are
these.
I
share
workshop
on
machine
learning
for
parents
combating
the
pandemic,
publications
with
of
employment
students
in
ukai
201.
We
have
a
social
good
paper
with
another
student
of
mine,
so
noel
is
a
graduate
student
which
is
again
a
matter
of
system.
Kale
and
natan
are
undergraduate
students
and
they
done
a
fantastic
job,
and
this
was
you
know
very
successful.
Then
we
have
some
presentation
papers
in
local
journals.
A
You
know
there
is
this
paper
on
electron
science,
which
which
had
the
three
students
liam
justin
and
christopher,
which
participants
activity
and,
of
course,
I
think
it's
important
that
business
activity
are
involved,
also
local
industry
and
administrations.
A
We
have
some
so
called
technical
system
projects
which
involve
the
local
companies,
but
we
also
interactions
with
other
with
other
research
centers.
You
know
this
gives
you
the
opportunity
to
fund
research
for
students
as
well,
but
also
to
help.
A
The
communities
of
the
metropolitan,
the
metropolitan
area
of
our
university
to
to
embed
the
science
expertise
in
their
activities,
and
recently
we
have
been
with
the
successful
grant
applications
together
with
there
is
in
the
indiana
digital
crossroads
initiative,
which
emerges
from
the
work
of
professor
ward
in
in
west
lafayette,
based
on
his
data
mining
concept
and
involved.
A
Many
many
people
like
the
provost
of
west
africa,
professor
office
rockridge,
professor
rikuz,
as
well
from
west
lafayette,
and
it
is
the
purdue
first
way
team
with
professor
dragram,
which
is
doing
most
of
the
work
professor
drama
she's,
the
vice
chancellor
and
myself,
which
are
and
the
only
one
without
administrative
positions
in
the
team
and,
of
course,
the
key
strategies.
A
I
think
these
are
key
strategies
for
more
or
less
any
successful
interactions
with
students,
because
you
want
to
have
to
make
make
things
simple
for
them
and
not
from
the
perspective
of
the
level
of
the
depth
of
the
topic,
but
do
not
create
extra
orders
right.
If,
if
a
student
is
working
well,
you
have
to
be
flexible
in
certain
things.
If
a
student
has
family,
you
have
to
reflect
on
other
things
and
so
on
right,
but
I
think
it's
important
to
be
in
to
make
sure
that
you
are
on
their
side.
A
They
didn't
understand
you're
on
the
side
and
that
can
benefit
in
full
from
from
the
activity
of
the
class,
and
there
are
many
many
many
many
ways
to
open
source
material
or
using
sharing
the
notes
and
weekly
meetings,
office
hours,
flexible
office
hours,
of
course,
having
some
sort
of
social
networks,
type
of
type
of
interactions,
so
that
you
know
I
don't
know
if
life
is
can
be
considered
like
that,
but
somehow
having
having
a
way
to
be
reached
by
the
students
in
their
preferred
manner-
and
you
know
there
are
many
outcomes
of
these
activities,
and
some
of
them
are,
you
know,
used
as
a
measure
of
success,
so
in
the
last
couple
of
years,
overwhelm
the
students
and
been
involved
in
50
students
projects.
A
We
have
every
enrollment
in,
so
these
are
from
my
classes
right.
So
these
are
all
students
from
from
my
classes
that
have
participated
in
these
activities.
A
In
general,
my
my
many
part-time
players
are
literally
enrollment
with
respect
to
other
programs,
our
schools.
We
have
very
high
success
in
job
applications,
don't
prepare
for
italian
data
science.
You
know
we
have
some
students
which
go
to
the
phd
programs,
but
there
are
not
that
many
and
they
all
confirm
that
in
their
job
interview
they
were.
They
have
been
asked
extensively
about
