are

beginning
of
the
agenda
and
it
is
my
pleasure
to
welcome
mr.

Thank

I'll
begin
with
a
few
brief
comments,
then
turn
it
over
to
Laurie.
The
first
slide
is
Toronto
Pearson
today,
and
the
main
theme
from
that
slide
is
good
news.
The
growth
continues
at
Toronto
Pearson
48
million
passengers
expected
this
year
up
from
forty
five
and
a
half
last
year.
Growth
continues
and
growth,
as
we
all
know,
is
a
good
thing
for
the
airport,
a
good
thing
for
the
local
communities,
a
good
thing
for
the
province.
So
that's
all
good
news
growth
bring
brings
with
it
a
necessity
to
respond
to
that
growth.

So
I'll
just
talk
about
four
things
that
we
at
the
board
are
focused
on
in
response
to
this
good
news:
growth
story.
The
first
is
to
maintain
the
passenger
experience
of
Pearson,
which
we
think
has
been
enhanced
in
the
last
few
years,
and
so
we're
focused
very
hard
on
making
the
adjustments
to
the
airport
to
accommodate
the
growth.
So
the
passenger
doesn't
feel
that
the
growth
isn't
is
making
a
crowded
experience
for
them.
So
we're
very
focused
on
that.
The
second
thing
we're
focused
on
is
listening
to
local
community
growth.

There's
about
60,000
residents
of
Toronto,
who
are
employed
because
of
airport
activities
to
keep
the
airport
running,
there's
a
significant
amount
of
companies
who
we
do
business
with
through
contracts
and
services,
and
so
it's
a
hundred
and
fifty
million
dollars
worth
of
those
contracts
and
services
in
Toronto
based
companies.
Companies
like
IBM,
black
and
McDonnell
pave
all
Gazzola.
D
We
also
make
sure
that
we're
making
investments
back
in
our
local
neighborhoods
around
the
airport.
We
have
a
project
called
the
propellor
project.
I'll
talk
a
little
bit
more
detail
on
that
in
a
slide
coming,
but
it's
about
380,000
dollars
that
we
do
invest
back
and
then
we
also
have
a
community
relations
straight
team.
That's
out
meeting
with
members
of
the
community
at
festivals,
at
barbecues,
at
farmer's
markets
and
the
summer
our
team
was
out
into
20
different
events
in
the
city
of
Toronto.

The
connectivity
that
Pearson
provides
is
a
significant
benefit
to
Toronto
in
terms
of
the
role
we
played
for
friends
and
family
visiting
for
tourism
and
for
business,
you
can
see
on
the
left-hand
side
out
of
Toronto.
You
can
reach
those
seven
percent
of
the
world's
economies
as
the
airport
grows
looking
forward.

Today
we
have
a
five
different
carriers
that
offer
about
sixty
one
flights
a
day
into
those
key
markets
at
amazon's
and
just
interested
in
so
that's
new
york,
the
DC
area
and
the
bay
area
and
we're
working
very
closely
with
toronto.
Global
help
support
that
we
need
to
plan
for
the
future
and
there's
no
question
that
growth
is
happening
all
around
us.
The
numbers
on
this
screen
are
the
growth
Secretariat
numbers
coming
out
of
the
province
of
Ontario.
You
can
see
populations
growing,
GDP
is
growing,
and
that
translates
into
demand
for
aviation.

Right
now
is
about
forty
nine
million
passengers
that
are
looking
to
travel
through
southern
Ontario.
We
expect
that
to
grow
to
about
a
hundred
and
ten
million
in
the
next
thirty
years,
and
we
also
know
the
challenges
that
congestion
play
today
in
terms
of
moving
people
and
goods,
and
we
expect
that's
only
going
to
get
worse
by
about
25
or
30
percent.
If
nothing
is
done,
we're
required
to
look
forward
and
plan
for
the
airport's
growth.
It's
called
a
master
plan.
We
updated
it
in
2008
we're
in
the
process
of
updating
it
again
this
year.

It's
a
plan
that
is
done
every
10
years,
but
it
looks
out.
20
basically
takes
the
forecast,
thinks
about
what
are
the
things
we
need
to
build.
How
does
that
mean?
We
use
use
the
lands
that
we
have
that
are
leased
from
the
Government
of
Canada
and
then
what
are
the
impacts
that
our
operations
have
and
how
do
we
mitigate
those?
D
These
are
the
forecasts
that
we
see
right
now
and
I.
Think
my
planners
and
probably
city
planners
would
tell
you
the
same.
The
only
thing
guaranteed
about
a
forecast
is
its
likely
to
be
wrong,
but
right
now
our
best
estimation
is
that
over
the
next
20
years,
traffic
in
terms
of
passenger
numbers
is
expected
to
grow
to
about
85
million
so
that
40%
growth,
that's
not
unprecedented.
We've
seen
airports
like
Hong,
Kong,
singer
or
Frankfurt
in
a
20
to
25-year
period,
Grove
40
million
passengers.
D
One
of
the
key
points
on
the
slide
that
was
passengers
numbers,
are
growing
in
a
six
seven
eight
percent
percentage
on
an
annual
basis.
The
actual
number
of
flights
is
growing
at
a
much
slower
rate.
So
since
2010
the
number
of
aircraft
movements,
as
we
call
them,
has
grown
about
1.5
percent.
We
expect
that
trend
to
continue
what's
happening
is
the
planes
operating
out
of
Pearson
are
getting
larger
and
they're,
putting
Airlines
they're.
Putting
more
of
us
on
that
same
size
plane,
so
you
can
see
that
106
people
on
average
per
aircraft.

We
expect
to
be
about
140
in
20
years
from
now,
and
we
expect
what
those
larger
planes
will
also
be
accommodating
more
and
more
air
cargo.
As
we
grow.
We
expect
to
have
to
build
additional
terminal
to
deal
with
the
growing
passenger
numbers,
more
baggage
capacity,
ultimately
a
single
terminal
and
ground
transportation
which
we'll
talk
about
in
a
second.
We
don't
expect
to
need
to
make
investments
in
additional
runways
so
from
a
ground
transportation
perspective.
We
know
we
have
some
good
services
today,
but
we're
lacking
in
a
significant
way
with
any
sort
of
higher
order.

Transit
we've
got
the
uptick
Express
and
we
have
a
number
of
bus
services,
but
we're
really
looking
to
bring
the
eddington
LRT
Finch
LRT
Mississauga
BRT,
even
looking
at
you,
know,
bending
the
goaline
and
bending
high-speed
rail
and
creating
a
more
of
a
multimodal
hub
to
serve
the
airport's
needs,
but
also
the
region's
needs.
Western
GT
a
really
is
starving
for
better
transit.
We
unveiled
this
concept
of
a
regional,
multimodal
Transit
Center
earlier
this
year,
and
we
have
this
out
in
an
RFP
dekat
engineering
and
design
concepts
by
October.

David
talked
about
the
regional
system.
There's
a
lot
of
great
aviation
assets
in
southern
Ontario.
So
how
do
we
leverage
those
as
that
growth
is
coming?
So
Pearson
can
continue
to
play
the
role
as
your
major
International
Airport,
like
a
JFK,
does
in
the
New
York
area,
but
have
other
airports
that
support
general
aviation
cargo,
business,
aviation
and
the
like,
of
course,
with
that
growth
we
also
do
have
impacts,
and
so
we
see
ourselves
as
a
leader
in
environmental
sustainability.

Just
yesterday,
David
was
actually
in
Dallas
Fort
Worth,
where
we
received
recognition
for
the
investment
we're
making
to
reduce
our
carbon
emissions
and
we've
renewed
our
carbon
accreditation
through
airports.
Council
international
made
significant
investments
in
stormwater
about
a
hundred
and
fifty
million
dollars
to
make
sure
that
we're
not
impacting
the
local
municipal
systems,
our
waste
diversion
targets
are
doing
very
well
and
managing
all
the
materials
that
go
into
the
airport
and
being
very
thoughtful
about
that.

We
do
also
need
to
be
cognizant
of
the
fact
that
when
airplanes
fly
over
homes
it
does
make
noise
and
that
there's
impacts
that
that
has
on
our
communities,
so
we're
working
very
hard
to
manage
those
impacts
and
right
now
we're
in
the
process
of
receiving
a
study
that
will
be
released
next
week.
Looking
at
best
practices
around
the
world
as
pearson
grows
looking
at
some
of
the
biggest
airports
in
the
world
and
what
are
they
doing
in
terms
of
best
practices?

you
probably

expecting
these
questions
so
being
a
representative
Etobicoke
during
the
construction
of
the
east-west
runway,
I
think
there
was
a
lack
of
communication
with
the
elected
officials.
We
got
an
email
on
a
Friday
night,
just
partly
starting
the
construction,
the
neighborhood's,
a
huge
increase
in
traffic
over
their
heads
and
it
formed
mm
bur
back
in
2008.

When
you
turn
master
plan,
it
didn't
seem
to
be
a
big
deal
other
than
Etobicoke,
but
as
you
move
forth
here,
new
one,
what
is
the
plan?
I
think
you
guys
acknowledge
that
you
came
a
to
drop
the
ball
a
bit
on
the
consultation
piece
with
the
community.
They
seem
to
be
fired
up
at
this
point.
So
what
is
the?
What
is
the
your
new
plan
to
communicate
with
with
the
elected
officials
from
the
MPP,
the
MPs,
the
councillors
as
we
move
forward?
This
master
plan.

You're
absolutely
right
the
communication
that
we
had
in
advance
of
that
runway
rehabilitation
did
lack
and
we
apologize
for
that.
There
was
significantly
more
operations
on
the
north-south
runway
than
we
had
anticipated
going
forward.
What
we've
done
is:
we've.
We've
we've
looked
out.
We
actually
have
contacted
the
city
of
Toronto
to
understand
how
the
city
manages
its
communications
for
major
construction
projects.
We've
looked
how
other
airports
do
it
so
that
we
can
learn
from
what
they're
doing
in
terms
of
the
master
plan.

As
I
said,
we
don't
anticipate
the
need
for
an
additional
runway
going
forward
in
our
planning
horizon
the
reason
we
operate.
The
way
we
do
today,
which
is
about
you,
know
only
about
five
or
six
percent,
using
the
north-south
runways,
primarily
because
of
wind
and
weather
conditions
and
the
capacity
that
the
airport

are
looking
at
ways
to
manage
the
capacity
going
forward
and
we
are
engaging
with
community
and
residents
in
Etobicoke
through
our
community
environment,
noise,
Advisory,
Committee
and
through
other
means,
as
that
growth
keeps
coming
so
moving.

see
these
numbers

other

look
at

so
you
know,
runways
will
have
to
be
added
and
on
david's
comments
at
looking
at
partner,
the
airport's
all
right
amazon
may
be
coming
in.
How
are
we
looking
at
parting
Hamilton,
which
is
a
hair
port
that
seems
to
be
underutilized?

Yes,
so
that
southern
Ontario
region
has
a
number
of
airports
that
we
think
will
have
to
play
larger
roles
to
help
support
that
growth.
You
know
it's
not
dissimilar
to
regions
like
if
you
look
at
the
UK
and
the
London
area,
airports
there's
one
main
international
and
then
a
number
of
other
airports
that
focus
on
business
aviation,
cargo,
point-to-point,
low-cost
carriers,
Paris
California,
New
York.
They
all
have
so
that
similar
so
we've
sort
of
reached
that
point
where
we
need
their
airports
to
start
to
play
larger
roles.

Specifically,
on
Hamilton
Hamilton
is
very
much
part
of
the
dialogue
that
we're
having
with
the
network
of
original
airports,
as
is
Kitchener
Waterloo,
ash
wall,
etcetera.
So
they're,
it's
a
wonderful
thing
that
our
CEO
horaday
introduced
no-confidence,
isn't
a
competitive
thing.
This
is
a
cooperative
thing
and
that
message
has
gotten
out
and
the
regional
airports
have
adopted
that
view
that
we
have
to
cooperate,
not
compete
great.

So
I
mentioned
this:
carbon
accreditation
were
one
of
very
few
airports
in
North,
America
who've,
achieved
that
carbon
accreditation
standard
and
we
actually
renewed
ours.
There
were
27
airports
just
yesterday
that
were
acknowledged
in
North
America
for
what
they're
doing
this
is
the
second
time
we've
achieved
that
accreditation,
I
think
the
first
time
we
got
ours.
We
were
just
a
couple:
airports
that
met
there,
so
we're
stocking
up
very
well.
One
of
the
things
we've
also
done
is
set
a
very
long-term
target.
So
from
a
GHG
perspective,
it's
a
80%,
a
reduction
by
2050.

So
we
continue
to
move
the
bar
so
that
we're
always
achieving
even
higher
targets
going
forward
and
something
we're
doing
differently
is
rather
than
using
the
offset
system
and
funding
offsets.
What
we're
doing
is
we're
taking
the
money
and
we're
using
those
dollars
to
reinvest
in
the
airport
and
other
initiatives
that
help
to
drive
down
our
footprint.

The
way
I
did

the
opportunity
to
sit
on
the
GTA
that
noise
Advisory
Committee
for
a
couple
years,
and
at
that
time
there's
talk
with
the
you
know.
The
care
is
caring,
more
people
on
their
aircraft,
but
quieter
planes
is
that
moving
along
there.
You
know
a
lot
of
complaints
we
were
receiving
was
the
low
low
and
the
noise,
but
I
hear
the
the
carriers
are
going
toward
quieter
planes.
Where
are
we
with
that?
So.

Planes
are
getting
quieter,
Pearson
is
probably
handling
or
using
most
of
the
quietest
fleets
that
are
out
there.
So
there's
some
things
you
can
do
around
the
margins.
One
of
the
things
that's
come
up
in
our
best
practices
review
is
the
a320
family
of
aircraft
have
a
particular
wine
to
them.
So
one
of
the
things
that
can
be
done
there
was
this
retrofit
to
the
engine.
It's
like
taking
a
beer
bottle
and
blowing
in
the
top
of
it.
It
creates
of
that
sort
of
noise.
We've
all
done
in
our
university
days.
Probably
that's.

And
it's
a
fairly
inexpensive
retrofit
that
other
jurisdictions
have
done.
The
tons
has
voluntarily
done
it
in
Europe
and
it's
something
that
communities
have
talked
about.
It's
something
I
think
as
as
industry,
so
air
carriers,
Government
of
Canada
and
Airport,
can
come
together
and
and
and
move
on.
So
there's
some
things
you
can
do
around
the
margins
of
again,
because
it's
very
limited
number
of
things
that
still
right
go
to
the
source
of
noise,
which
is
at
the
aircraft

is
the
only
one
with
a
single
ground
transportation
of
all
the
others
have
two
or
three
ground
transportation
hubs.
Toronto
needs
the
second
ground
transportation
hub
and
the
place
to
have.
It
is
in
the
west
part
of

city
that
Pearson,
so
there's
lots
of
dialogue
going
on
between
various
governments,
because
this
only
happens
if
people
coordinate
and
not
worry
about
their
own
sandbox.
So
it's
it's
happening
that
a
fair
summary

the
airport,
including
Mara
Tory
and
Minister
del
Duca,
to
the
airport,
to
talk
about
the
ground
transportation
hub
in
April,
and
there
was
solid,
positive
support
for
making
the
investments
and
studying
further

opportunity
of
creating
this
multimodal
hub
at
Pearson.
So,
yes,
any.

question
that's
been
asked
by
councillor
Grimes
with
respect
to
capacity
and
how
you
are
reaching
and
working
with
other
airports
in
the
vicinity
in
areas
such
given.
Your
success
and
I
think
your
numbers
were
a
year
or
so
ago,
is
45
million
passengers
and
now
you're
at
48
million
and
I
gather.

Up
there,
when
we
were
working
with
airports
from
across
southern
Ontario,
we
did
include
Transport
Canada
at
the
table,
given
their
oversight,
role
of
those
lands
and
their
responsibility
to
ultimately
make
a
decision,
whether
or
not
any
airports
built
there.
So
it's
in
the
mix
you're
right
when
we
look
forward
110
million
passengers
flying
through
southern
Ontario
when,
as
David
mentioned,
our
capacity
is
probably
about
85
million,
so
decisions
related
to
whether
or
not
a
Pickering
Airport
is
required
will
be
up
to
Transport
Canada
to
make.

And
our
CEO
has
said
this
before
holidaying
the
notion
of
having
two
international
airports,
ultimately
the
long
term
in
the
Charter.
It
doesn't
make
sense.
You
just
need
one
but
Pickering
make
come
to
pass
in
a
form
where
it's
not
an
international
airport,
but
an
airport
that
provides
domestic
service,
etc.

And
safety
issues
at
the
airport
are
dealt
with
through
sort
of
the
management,
health
and
safety
committees,
and
so
those
crossed
beyond
just
GTAA
and
the
1,400
employees
that
we
have,
but
across
the
whole
airport,
so
dealing
with
some
of
those
issues
and
concerns
that
you
mentioned
is
something
that
we
do
take
very
seriously
and
play
a
role
because
a
lot
of
times
the
the
facilities
that
people
are
working
in
are
GTAA
facilities,
and
so
it's
definitely
work.
That's
constantly
ongoing
and
hearing
feedback
both
from
employees
and
from
other
companies
to
address
those
concerns
right.

Absolutely
is
so:
we've
been
reaching
out,
I
guess
the
first
point
it
says
a
lot
of
what's
in
this
plan
is
not
a
it
shouldn't,
be
a
surprise
to
anybody.
We've
been
out
engaging
on
ground
transportation,
growth,
the
regional
airports
and
a
network
for
a
number
of
years
now,
but
in
particular
about
this
plan
coming
out,
we
are
meeting
with
city
planning,
staff,
transportation
and
land
use.

during
the
construction
of
the
these
West
runway,

it's
important
that
this
communication
plan,

we
move
forward,

councillor
Thomson
working

city,
but
making
sure
people
have
the
right
information.

it's
great

Lorie,

we're
not
adding
runways,
but
we
get
that
out.

friction

particular

in

that
is
no
longer

case

fact,
we
wholeheartedly
support

certainly
endorse
the
direction
that
the
airport's
going

course,

council
Grimes

brought

need

councilor
holiday
yesterday
at
some
about
some
of
the
challenges
and,
of
course,
that
we
want
to
be
able
to
work
with
the
Airport
Authority
and
in
terms
of
addressing
the
concerns
and
residents

brought
forward

issues.

that
the

success
of

airport
brings

great
benefit
to
everyone

the
area
and
in
the

frankly,
and
we
realize
that
there
are
elements
and
challenges

growing
pains

inconsistent
with
respect
to
any
other
Airport
organisations
around
the
world.

city
can't
have
two
international
airports
within

close
proximity

facilitate

needs

opportunities

Amazon
and
others
and

they
look
at
airports.

access

the
ability
to
conduct
business
and
really
demonstrate

real
value

how
important
airport
facilities
are
to
the
growing
economy

meet
with

people

used

Toronto
as
a
hub
coming
in
and
going
through
varying
destinations

the

States
and
elsewhere,

from

McMurray

east

talking

airport

people
are
very
happy
talking

Give
you
an
update
really
on
the
international
trade
development
program
that
we
partner
in
the
City
of
Toronto,
on
with
the
city
of
Toronto
and
I,
brought
some
of
my
colleagues
from
World
Trade
Center,
just
because
I
think
they'll
probably
be
the
best
ones
to
answer
questions.
The
our
presentation
is
quite
brief
and
then
we
get
to
questions
and
if
they
need
to,
we
can
have
them.
I
Molecular
zookas,
coordinator
of
our
tap
program
or
trade
accelerator
program,
highly
successful,
Katherine

known
to
some
of
the
councillors
runs
our
market
activation
program,
which
is
inbound
and
outbound
trade
missions
and
Joshua
Brown
is
a
project
manager
managing
our
relationship
with
the
city.
So
I
will
get
right
to
the
presentation
a
little
bit
of
brief
discussion
of
why
it's
important
that
we
put
resources
into
developing
trade
for
Toronto
businesses,
31
percent
of
Canada's
and
53
percent
of
Ontario's
GDP
s,
our
GDP
is
actually
in
exports.
So
it's
really
critical
to
our
economy.
I
As
we
all
know,
67%
of
Toronto's
of
Canada's
total
exports
are
actually
generated
by
Ontario
and
one
in
five
of
all.
Our
workers
are
there
as
a
direct
indirect
result
of
people
doing
exports,
and
another
important
thing
is
that
99
percent
of
all
Ontario
companies
are
actually
SME
small
medium-sized
enterprises,
and
that
comes
to
this
rather
strong
statement.
If
Ontario
increased
its
share
of
SMEs
exporting
to
the
same
level
as
large
firms,
it
would
mean
an
extra
one
hundred
and
forty
six
thousand
businesses
generating
an
estimated
150
billion
in
new
export
activity.
I
And
when
you
think
about
where
those
businesses
are
in
Ontario,
they
are
mostly
in
Toronto.
So
there's
a
significant
opportunity
for
Toronto,
and
the
part
of
the
reason
for
this
is
that
in
Canada,
only
four
percent
of
SMEs
are
actually
X,
whereas
23%
of
large
companies
are
exporting,
which
is
part
of
the
reason
that
they
were
able
to
become
large.
And
if
you
look
around
the
world,
you'll
see
that
27%
in
France
28%
in
Germany,
14%,
Italy,
24%
in
Japan
and
so
on.
Our
SMEs
are
actually
able
to
export
and
in
Canada
only
four.
I
In
order
to
address
that
opportunity,
Toronto
region,
Board
of
Trade
through
World
Trade
Center,
is
running
three
trade
programs.
Three
major
trade
areas,
one
is
the
trade
101
program
which
we
partner
with
the
city.
We
run
events
at
city
locations
with
and
city
staff,
support
us
and
get
the
word
out
and
invite
this
is
for
people
who
don't
know
too
much
about
trade
yet,
but
have
an
interest
in
it
for
the
future
of
their
careers
or
their
businesses.
I
If
the
people
already
know
a
bit
about
trains,
they
have
an
up
and
running
business
and
they
may
even
be
trading
internationally,
but
perhaps
they
fell
into
it
a
little
bit
rather
than
being
strategic
about
it.
We
invite
them
into
our
trade
accelerator
program.
We've
been
running
it
for
two
years
and
on
the
next
slide,
I'll
talk
a
little
bit
about
its
success.
I
It
is
a
highly
successful
program
once
people
are
trained
and
understand
what
what
is
involved
with
running
a
trade
mission
or
international
exports,
we
take
them
on
trade
missions
or
we
host
them
here.
When
trade
missions
come
in
bound
and
that's
our
market
activation
plan,
we
also
run
research
services
and
we
leverage
our
World
Trade
Center
Association
relationships
around
the
world
in
88
countries
and
more
than
300
locations
to
help
people
connect
we're
going
to
slide
for
a
little
bit
about
trade
101.
I
We
promise
the
city
that
we
would
deliver
six
sessions
with
up
to
600
attendees,
as
of
today
we're
about
halfway
through
this
program
it
runs
from
April
to
March,
we've
run
three
trade,
101
seminars,
231
individuals
registered,
and
the
great
success
of
this
I.
Think,
aside
from
all
those
people,
learning
more
about
international
trade
and
getting
their
heads
into
into
trading
early
in
their
in
their
businesses
is
that
three
of
them
have
already
been
fed
to
our
tap
program.
So
we
we
met
three
individuals.
I
Already
three
businesses
at
those
programs
that
were
able
to
come
in
to
tap
tap
is
where
they're
going
to
really
get
trained
to
be
successful.
We
are
planning
to
run
five
to
six
more
sessions
because
we
don't
find
these
he's
hard
to
run
we're
able
to
run
more
than
the
six
we
had
planned
and
we
hope
to
have
another
three
to
four
hundred
registrants,
and
so
we
should
easily
eclipse
our
targets.
You
can
see
the
schedule
where
they
are
happened.
The
next
ones
are
happening
that
are
scheduled
and
we'd
love
it.
I
If
there's
an
opportunity
to
engage
a
counselor
in
coming
in
and
maybe
making
some
introductory
remarks
at
what
at
one
of
those
sessions-
and
so
I'd
be
happy
to
reach
out
to
you
after
this
to
see.
If
there's
anybody
interested
in
doing
that,
a
little
bit
about
tap
the
we
have
delivered
six
tap
session,
we
promise
to
deliver
this
year,
six
tap
sessions
for
one
hundred
and
two
hundred
and
fifty
companies.
We
normally
have
twenty
to
twenty-five
companies
in
every
tap
session.
It's
a
very
intensive.
I
There
are
four
days
of
of
intensive
workshop
programs
over
the
course
of
six
weeks
that
culminates
in
a
mentorship
we
bring
in
all
of
our
partners,
which
includes
EDC
and
Business,
Development
Canada
and
our
BC
DPS
and
CN,
and
the
government
of
Ontario
and,
of
course,
the
city
who
provide
expert
knowledge
on
their
specific
areas
of
business
related
to
exports
and
and
we
we
get
companies
exporting
by
the
end
of
it.
We
ran
three
sessions
so
far
this
year
with
50
companies
and
we
have
planned
to
six
additional
sessions
and
I.
I
We
can
also
make
that
schedule
available
we're
running
one
a
month
now
for
the
rest
of
the
year
until
March
in
Toronto,
so
we
anticipate
having
easily
another
hundred
and
twenty
companies
in
it
through
top
in
terms
of
Statistics,
as
in
a
survey
of
our
last
hundreds
tap
graduates
and
again,
this
is
only
a
year
after
taking
top
67
percent
of
them
have
increased
their
export
sales
and
that's
accounted
for
about
fifty
million
dollars.
Seventy
six
percent
have
already
hired
export
dedicated
staff
and
the
number
is
around
74
actual
staff.
I
So,
in
some
cases
it's
part
F
to
use
in
some
cases
as
multiple
F
to
use.
Sixty
percent
have
spent
on
export
in
marketing
and
business
development,
export
marketing
and
business
development
for
the
tune
of
about
a
million
and
a
half
dollars
and
22
percent
of
made
captain
investments
to
to
support
export
sales
21
of
those
companies
at
about
half
a
million
dollars.
Those
numbers
are
really
important
because
all
that
money
is
being
spent
locally.
I
Among
other
regions
in
much
from
and
there's
a
real
opportunity
there
to
continue
to
leverage
that
so
that
when
we
have
challenges
with
any
single
point
of
export,
you
know,
as
is
happening
right
now,
in
terms
of
NAFTA
discussions
and
softwood
lumber
and
so
on.
In
the
states
there
are
other
opportunities
once
people
are
through
tapped,
we
take
them
into
our
map
program.
I
The
first
thing
we
promise
to
do
with
the
city
that
we
partnered
on
was
to
develop
a
priority
export
markets
report
I'm
really
pleased
to
have
it's
done
today.
This
is
the
sort
of
the
first
of
the
coffees
where
that's
being
launched
at
noon
today
in
a
webinar
I'm
gonna
make
copies
available.
I
regret
that
I
didn't
bring
them
to
give
you
today,
I'll
make
sure
that
copies
are
sent
to
you.
I
We
plans
to
lead
or
support
up
to
three
outbound
trade
missions
and
host
and
operate
up
to
twelve.
So
so
far
on
the
outbound
missions,
we
have
we've
gone
to
London
for
tech
week,
and
a
couple
of
councilors
came
with
us
and
twelve
businesses
and
in
one
of
the
appendices
you
can
see
the
details
of
that,
but
it
was
highly
successful.
I
Katherine
led
the
mission
and
the
companies
have
given
us
great
feedback
in
terms
of
all
the
contacts
they're
able
to
make
and
the
future
contracts
they
hope
to
be
able
to
put
in
place,
and
we
can
certainly
answer
any
questions
about
that.
We've
also
hosted
I,
think
14
trade
missions
internally
already
I
think
our
metric
was
to
host
12
this
year.
I
think
we're
probably
at
15
actually
something
that
probably
since
this
was
created,
we're
all
right.
I
We
actually
had
one
last
week,
so
we
anticipate
that
we'll
be
able
to
do
at
least
another
10,
and
the
nice
thing
is
we're
somewhat
selective.
We
have
a
prioritization
process
with
the
city
where
we
share
the.
We
create
a
high
low
medium
priority
and
we
share
it
with
the
city
and
the
final
decision
is
made
by
the
city
and
we
put
our
resources
against
it.
Based
on
that,
so
we
anticipate
having
a
whole
lot
more
success
with
this
program
and
there's
so
much.
I
I
Nafta
is
is
an
opportunity
in
a
way
I
think
for
those
of
us
who
are
trying
to
support
companies
to
expand
their
horizons
internationally.
It's
very
easy
to
trade,
to
the
States
and
many
many
companies,
everybody
we
work
with.
Has
that
in
mind.
What
we're
trying
to
do
is
help
them
diversify
markets.
So
for
us,
it's
an
opportunity
since
we're
in
this
industry
the
NAFTA
itself
I
attended
a
session
last
week
where
the
chief
negotiator
talked
a
great
deal
about
it
and
he
was
very
positive.
I
He
talked
about
a
lot
of
the
challenges
they
and
they're,
seeing
in
terms
of
negotiating,
but
he
was
very
positive
about
Canada's
space
in
terms
of
our
relationship
in
NAFTA
and
our
and
there
that
they
would
have
a
good
outcome
and
I
can
tell
you
from
our
perspective
the
World
Trade,
Center,
Toronto
and
working
with
the
city.
We
have
hosted
a
large
number,
like
a
surprising
number
of
Governors
from
US
states
and
mayor's
from
major
cities
like
Dallas,
Fort
Worth,
who
have
all
come
here
and
told
us
the
same
thing.
I
Canada
is
our
number
one
trading
partner.
Toronto
is
the
economic
engine
of
Canada
you're
extremely
important
to
us.
When
push
comes
to
shove,
we
want
a
free
trade
agreement
with
Canada.
We
don't
have
the
same
issues
that
we
have
with
Mexico
in
Canada,
we
see
a
let's
trade
or
it
benefits
us,
and
so
my
life,
my
personal
belief,
is
that
will
come
out
of
NAFTA
doing
very
well.
It
was
a
agreement.
They
needed
a
bit
of
updating.
What's.

So,
first
of
all
on
sita
the
comprehensive
economic
trade
agreement.
I
believe
it's
this
week.
It
actually
gets
ratified
90
some
portion
of
it
has
already
been
in
effect
and
until
it
is
fully
ratified
at
both
sides,
it's
an
enormous
opportunity.
We
and
not
just
inbound,
but
not
just
outbound,
but
also
in
bounds.
The
Europeans
are
seeing
it
the
same
way.
We
hosted
a
French
delegation
yesterday
and
they
are
seeing
it
the
same
way.
I
They're
saying
how
can
we
access
North
America
through
our
heceta
agreement
with
Canada,
so
with
light
rule
with
respect
to
that
related
to
brexit
the
EU?
The
UK
is
always
going
to
be
a
good
trading
partner
of
ours.
There
are
a
large
market
themselves,
there
they're
highly
developed
and
economically
stable,
and
so
we
will
continue
to
trade
with
the
with
the
UK,
but
I
think
what's
happened
in
the
past.
Is
most
companies
that
we're
thinking
of
accessing
Europe
did
it
through
the
UK,
it's
their
language,
the
culture.
It
was
much
easier
to
do
personal
relationships.

It's
long
been
a
goal
of
the
federal
government
to
break
out
of
the
account
a
u.s.
trade
relationship.
You
know
it's
all.
The
other
perception
of
the
other
aspect
of
diversification
is
diversifying
the
product
moving
into
areas
that
you
know
are
traditionally
associated
with
Canada
in
terms
of
emphasis.
What's
which
seems
to
be
the
driver
between
those
two
well.
I
I
mean
nobody
has
really
owns
those
markets
yet
and
Canada
may
not
have
been
perceived
as
yet
to
be
a
leader
in
any
of
them
necessarily,
but
because
of
our
strengths
and
things
like
financial
services,
there's
a
real
opportunity
on
the
FinTech
side
and
so
on
with
the
others,
and
so
our
goal
is
to
use
this
report
to
guide
us
to
put
resources
into
supporting
both
the
markets,
diversification
and
the
sector
diversification.

four
prior

that
event

see
if
what
we
can
do
to
develop
a
real
business
network
between
us

developing
relationships

them

them
by
taking
them

trade
missions

taking
them
to
trade
shows
and
by
connecting
them

Trade
Center

in

branding
and

be
branded
in
other
parts
of
the
world,

culture,
differences
and
so

a

bit

the
difference
between
being
a
little
Canadian
company

enormous

successful
international

we
absolutely
stand
behind

need
to
do
that.
There's
another
really
interesting
thing.

When
you
look
at
how
to
sell
products
and
serve
especially
products
and
a
lot
of
food
products,
and
so
on
into
China,
ecommerce
is
becoming
a
really
critical
component
of
that
and
when
you
and
and
we
have
JD
comm,
which
is
the
largest
internet
business
and
the
third
largest
internet
business
in
the
world
and
the
largest
retailer
in
China
came
in,
we
hosted
a
mission
with
them.
They
told
us
that
they
actually
had
a
Canada
Day
because
pushing
Canadian
products
to
Chinese
consumers
is
easy,
so
they
they
are
literally
out
there
trying
to
do
it.
I
For
us,
and
we
need
to
be
on
the
same
page
with
them
and
participating
with
them,
so
one
of
our
goals
in
the
next
six
months
is
to
write
a
report
they
around
that
that
follows
on
this
report
a
little
more
in-depth
and
then
to
take
a
trade
mission
to
those
regions
to
look
at
e-tailing
and
to
look
at
how
we
take
brands
into
markets
and
what
it
means
to
be
branding
in
those
markets.

average
between
five
and
eight
inbound
mission
requests
per

averaging

spread

requests
come
through
from
economic
development
agencies
from
other
world
trade
centres

buyers

likes
of
Global
Affairs
worldwide.

of
missions
that
we

prioritization
process
that
we
work
through

you
guys
with
the
city
and
will
determine
on
the
basis

that

level

service
is
appropriate

offers

most
service
in
terms
of
our
business

would

Uruguay,
which
has
an
MoU
for
a
partnership
agreement
with
the
city.

that
they
provided

opportunity

about
infrastructure,
related
projects

businesses

same
attention.

be
failing
them
if
we
were
not
to
continue
to
work
through
this
exercise
in
terms

trying

help
them

non-for-profits
and
municipal
governments
and
provincial
governments
are
trying
to
make
the
Toronto
region
as
competitive
as
successfully
competitive

possible

the
feedback

as

are
chair

others

tell
people
you're
from
Canada,
they
smile
and
when
you
tell
them
you're
from
Toronto.
They
embrace
you
so
I
think
we've
got

lot

good
things
going
for
us,
but

can't
help

think
that
you

educate

motivate
people
and
corporations.

the
tools,

financial
context
within
which

act

receive

going

slog

complement

talking

Toronto
and

that

real
good

Centre
and
their
work
so
that,
in
a
sense
we're

complementary

investment,

about
working

in
the
region,

through
other
organisations.
In
fact,
the
one
thing
the
Toronto
global
will
do
is
that
we
extend
the
reach
of
the
City

Toronto
internationally
and

Explain
how
we
do
that
primarily
through
two
groups.
One
is
lead
generation
and
client
services.

That
means
identifying
international
firms
who
have
an
opportunity
to
come
to
the
Toronto
region,
working
with
those
as
clients
on
a
concierge
service
basis
to
make
sure
they'd
land
here
that
is
backed
up
entirely
by
marketing
and
communications,

research
and
insights,
which
are
driven
to
drive
the
Toronto
region
value
proposition
to
make
it
far
more
attractive
for
those
companies
that
are
coming
working
with
the
Toronto
Toronto
global
team.
The
City
of
Toronto
can
expect
these
five
things,
but
I
think
at
the
end
of
the
day.

be
aware
of
this,
but
the
involvement
of
the
municipalities
in
Toronto
Global's
operations
happens
at
two
very
essential
levels.

first
is
that
the
mayors
and
chairs
strategy
Council,
which
is
where
the
mayors

chairs

our
funding
municipalities,
said
they
do
three
things.
They
approve
the
annual
business
plan,
the
strategic
plan
and
they
nominate
to
the
board
of
directors.

is
a
private
sector
board
of
directors
which
is
chaired
by
mark
and
vice-chair
by
Janet
Acker,
but
we
also
work
very
closely
with
the
economic
development
officers
Management
Council
in
order
to
establish
operating
priorities

we're
working
smoothly
with
them.
This
is
our
funding,
we're
very
unique
model
in
that
we
have
funding
from
the
three
levels
of
government-
the
federal
government,
provincial
government
municipal
government,
and
we
also
have
operating
relationships
with
each
of
them.

came
back
from
Edmonton,
where
they
have
just
established
Edmonton
global
on
exactly
the
same
model
and
I
just
also
visited

gave

talk
in
Vancouver,

they're

exactly
the
same

We
do
strategic,
proactive
prospecting,
I'll
touch
on
our
pipeline
in
a
moment
in
these
sectors,
which
are
the
important
sectors
for
the
Toronto
region
for
FDI.

slightly
than
what
the
Board

Trade
has
put
together,
but
that
is
just

nature
of
the
difference
between
inbound
investment
and
trade.
These
are
our
focused
markets
in
Europe
in
the
United
States
and
Asia,
but

inquiries

may
come
from
any
other
part
of
the
globe.
The
Toronto
global
pipeline
is
something
I
wanted
to
touch
on
because
you're
going
to
see
the
way
in
which
we're
working
differently
from
other

from

previous
organizations.

we
are
spending
an
awful
lot
more
time
on
active
opportunities
in
the
target
area.
Those
are
leads
that
we
are
generating
ourselves
90%

the
work
that
we

front

to
drive
as
many
deals
that
we
can
identify
as
possible
in
February
when
we
were
launched,
we
inherited
only

we're
now
at

by
far
most
of
our
leads
come
from

United
States
interesting
uptick
from
Australia,
which
is
a
bit
of
an
anomaly,
but
it
shows
the
relationships

we
have
with
other
countries

huge
interest

digital

sector.

are
seeing
not
as
much
activity
in
the
other
ones,
but
we're
looking
through
a
strategic,
Pro
and
proactive
targeting
to
try
to
increase
the
numbers
in
that
area.

Toronto

think
this

interesting
because
sometimes
this
gets
people
don't
quite
understand.

have
to
have
had
a
strategic
cooperation

relationship
with
us.
They
have
to
have
confirmed
a
real
estate
investment
in
the
region
and
have
hired
and
confirmed
actual
job
creation.
So
that
is
very
quick.

unique

compare

municipalities

US

have

backing
us
and
excited.

talent,
attraction
and
talent
retention,
so

talent
attraction
is
where

we
get
people
from
so
we
obviously
have
ecosystem
here
of
400,000
people
in
the
tech
sector
and
the
access
to
our
universities

AI
programs,

things
like
that,
but
also
it's
a
fast
track
to
bring
people
in
from
around
the
world
is
a
huge
strategic
advantage
for
us.
So
working
closely
with
the
federal
government
on
that
Edie
Clark
was
appointed,
as
you
saw
from
the
premier
to
lead
their
part
on
the
on
the
on
the
provincial
side.

are
working
hand
in
hand
with
that
on

goes
really
to
what
is
the
province,
thinking
about
any
incentives
or
their
approach
to

the

we
strongly
feel
and

think

federal
government

place

company

us

terms

setting
precedent
on
a
global

People
will
be
watching

we're

sure
we
actually
strategically

Regional
has
to
offer

working
closely

IDI
Clark
on
that
and
he's
spearheading
the
chart,

charge

the
Minister
of
Finance
and
the
various
departments

we've
put
our
bid
team
together,
literally,
the
bid
is
due
October
19th,
but
we
probably
go
to
print
by
October

we
have

weeks

get

in
the
corporate
world

essentially
what
we
are
doing

we

working
with
each
of
the
municipalities

are
in

bid

consistent

that
are
very

think

to
be
able
to
pick
up
from
there
in
terms

offering
amenities.

Valley
thing

the

the
advantage

surround
region

we

turn
to
Amazon

meet

needs
any

offered

whatever

to
get

we're

50,000
jobs
from
Amazon
that
isn't
even
talking
about

multiplier
impact
that
they
will
have
locally.
This
is
a
huge
huge
thing.
50,000
employees
is
about
the
total
payroll
for
the
city.
When
you
carry
the
police
and
the
TTC-
and
we
are
the
number
one
employer
in
the
region,
so
it
would
be
the
equivalent
of
that
there
are
only
maybe
four
or
five
metropolitan
markets
in
North
America
that
can
absorb
it,
and
that
is
a
I
think
or
thing.

Another
comment:
we've
had
1,100
economic
development
professionals
from
around
and
the
world
in
town
this
past
week,
and
this
is
the
only
thing
they
talk
about.
The
competition
will
be
ferocious.
This
is
a
once
in
a
generation
once

millennium,
where
this
kind
of
thing
is
thrown
out
as
publicly
and
almost
naively,
as
has
been
done,
and
so
everybody
is
going
to
go
hard
at
it
that
we
need
to
keep
a
cohesive,
federal,
provincial
local,
regional
voice.

speak
volumes
to
to
Amazon
and
we
need
to
go
as
hard
as
we
can

assured

divisions
across
Toronto
build
workforce
development
month
activities
that
create
opportunities
for
jobseekers
to
enter
into
and
progress
through,
diverse
employment
sectors.
They
also
build
strong
community
connections
to
engage
diverse
communities
and,
of
course,
strengthen
private
sector
employer
partnerships.
Overall,
the
purpose
of
Workforce
Development
Month
is
to
demonstrate
the
variety
of
ways.

how
are
we
going
to
promote
workforce
development
month
in
2017?
We
believe
we
have
a
diverse
and
robust
marketing
and
outreach
plan.
We
have
heard
from
residents
and
job
seekers
that
there's
a
strong
preference
for
being
engaged
your
online
platforms
and
digital
tools.
That's
why
we
have
focused
on
increasing
our
online
presence
this
year.
The
video
you
just
saw,
for
example,
has
already
been
posted
on
the
city's
YouTube
channel
and
will
be
promoted
through
Twitter
and
Facebook
over
the
following
six
weeks.
It's
really
our
Workforce
Development
commercial.

If
you

we
also

promoting
workforce
development
month

in

September,
using
our
online
workforce
development
calendar
on
the
city's
WorkOne

which

mentioned
in

will
also
continue
to
provoke,
promote
events

activities

employment,
centers,
TPL
branches

in
our
community
centers
and
toronto
civic
centers
throughout
the
month.

leverage

partnerships

dozens

community

employment,
Ontario,
the
youth
employment

and
large
organizations
that

with
all

the

I

we

toward

jobseekers

single
parents,
the
LGBTQ,
2's
community
and
youth.

we
heard
about
a
lot

the

Events
continue

jobseekers

provides
indigenous
jobseekers
with

learn

construction
connections
program,
which
has
been
working

Yonge

Eglinton
employment
center

the
past
several
months
to
connect
young
people
to
apprenticeship
opportunities
and
employment
in
the
construction
trades,
it
provides
a
pathway
to
apprenticeship
with
a
wide
range
of
partners
in
both
the
trades
and
other
levels
of
government.

is
the
one
I
was
very
excited
about.
This
event
is
designed
to
prepare
job
seekers
with
criminal
justice
involvement
for
employment
except
success.
This
is
a
very
important
event
where
young
people
will
hear

successful

gone
through

same
challenges
and
barriers
as
them
to
learn
about
the
key
elements
for
success
in
finding
their
employment
opportunities
and
career
paths.

an
event
on
food
and
food
and
beverage
manufacturing,
which
I've
already
mentioned

isn't
just
a
little
out
of
order

Art
connections,
which
is
a
fine
art,
exhibit
and
sale.
This
event
supports
newcomer
entrepreneurs
by
promoting
and
showcasing
the
sale
of
fine
art
created
by
newcomer,
professional
artists
and
artisans.
These
artists
were
professional
renowned
artists
in
their
home
countries,
but
had
a
difficult
time,
transitioning
to
the
labor
market
and
the
cultural
sector
in
in
the
City
of
Toronto
and
unfortunately
had
fallen
into
poverty
through
tasks
and
our
caseworkers.

Of
course.
Every
year
we
have
a
very
exciting
event,
which
is
the
city
career
information
event,
which
draws
hundreds
of
job
seekers
and
residents
from
across
the
city
to
meet
with
city
staff,
to
learn
about
the
careers
in
the
public
sector,
as
well
as
the
onboarding
and
hiring
process
at
the
City
of
Toronto.

we're
tracking
this
success
in
a
couple
of
ways,
certainly
the
degree
to
which
we
are
able
to
promote
future
partnerships
and
future
activities,
but
we
also
track
the
participant
who
are
there
and
what
what
their
outcomes

terms

connected
with
a
job
being,
don't
return
you
to
school
or
getting
enrolled
in
school
training,
etc.
So
jobs
are
really
one
of
the
big
objectives.

been
concerned

that

turn
up

heat

particular
issue

way

with

Police

get

law

trouble

this
society
and

appalled
at
that

appalled

reading

the
vice
chair

this
police
service
board
at
one
time,
and-
and
this
thing
just
boggles
my
mind
and
it
continues
to
happen
over
and
over
and
over
again-
and
we
hear
well,
you
know
it's
perplexing
it's
complex
and
so
on
these
young
black
kids
then
for
the
rest
of
their
lives.
It's
never
right
for
their
own
family.

never
right,
because
your
father
has
got
a
criminal
record,
and
so
what
are
the
sons
and
daughters
supposed
to
do?
And
so
we
have
this
society
talks
about
diversity
and
equality
and
Swann,
but
there's
a
lot
of
stuff.
That's
going
on

I'm
thankful
that
councillor
Fletcher
and
many
of
us
around
this
table
find
this
totally
unfair.

Quite
frankly,
we
have
to
do
what's
right,
because
we
have
to
speak
for
those
young
people
if
they're
causing
trouble

police
needed
to
intervene
absolutely,
but
in
this
particular
so
I
just
talked
about
that
situation,

there's

young
boy
in
Pickering
or
Whitby
who's
going
to
lose
an
eye
and
yes,
I
know
this
is
a
matter
in
front
until
the
courts
and
all
the
things.
But
it's
an
interesting
situation.
The
interaction
with
these
young
black
boys,
particularly
and
the
police,
and
it
doesn't
matter
what
color
the
police
is
going.

Frankly,
it
seems
to
me
that
is
just
a
systemic
problem.
Within
this
organization
we
want
to
root
it
out.
I,
don't
think
it's
all
police
officers
I
do
think
it's
some.
What
we
want
to
root
it
out,
there's
a
lot
of
fine
people
in
those
organizations,
but
there
are
people
who
are
creating
some
challenges
that
we
want
to
figure
out
a
way.
If
we,
as
politicians
are
not
able
to
resolve
this,
it
will
never
be
resolved
because
those
young
people
or
trying
to
make
sure
that
their
rights
are
heard.

recognition
at
that
time
because
it's

power
imbalance

corners
and

interview
with

just
brought
home
another
Emmy
in
the
last
few
days
with
the
groundbreaking
win
of
The
Handmaid's
Tale,

production

win

Emmy
and
is
shot
entirely
here
in
Toronto.
So
that's
truth
or
the
genre
horror
film
it
which
just
earned
the
distinction
as
the
highest-earning
September
release
of
all
time.
So
just
for
clarity.

It
spent
twenty
eight
point:
nine
million
in
sixty
days
here
in
the
province
of
Ontario,
the
bulk
of
that
in
Toronto
and
fourteen
point,
one
million
was
spent
on
payroll

contribute

that,

although
it's

something

cultural

these

productions
spread
across
your
wards

the
city
making
Toronto

place

business

study

light

critical
component

far
the
success

highlighted
you
on

the
our
abilities
to
surpass
the

mark
that
we
just
hit
recently

Portland's
and
south
of
eastern
employment
district
is
the
original
film

television
cluster
for
Toronto
is
the
heart
of
our
sector
in
Toronto
and
like
our
industry,
it
is
facing
a
number
of
challenges
over
the
next
few
decades.
The
study
before
you
makes
a
number
of
critical
recommendations
designed
to
ensure
the
survival
and
growth
of
the
film
television
and
digital
media
sector
in
Toronto
and
alongside
spotlight
on
Toronto
the
strategic
action
plan
for
the
film
television
and
digital
media
industry.

Mega
stage
is
significant,
so
Toronto
sees
a
very
wide
range
of
production
from
obviously
television
productions
that
are
shoot
for
a
longer
period
of
time.
High
budget
television
production
series,
as
well
as
now
our
fair
share
of
blockbuster
ten
pool
productions
and
the
mega
stage
is
integral
to
both
of
those
the
blockbuster
temple
productions,
but
as
well
as
the
higher
quality
of
the
television
series
that
we're
seeing
now
via
streaming
projects.
They
are
getting
larger.

All
the
buzz
around
TIFF
is
always
excellent.
This
year
was
no
different
I
think
the
changes
to
TIFF
were
instrumental
in
ensuring
that
still
is
valuable
not
only
to
the
industry
itself
as
a
vehicle
for
selling
projects,
but
to
the
residents
of
Toronto.
So
we
had
the
exo
to
which
is
right
on
King
Street
right
across
from
the
red
carpet
area
on
TIF,
and
there
was
non-stop
buzz
for
both
our
lounge
that
the
city
supported
as
well
as
just
the
TIF
in
general.

There
was
quite
a
few
sales
there,
so
Netflix
purchased
quite
a
few
projects,
including
the
long
road
home
which
I
believe
and
can
mess
the
title
up,
but
they
tragically
hip
documentary,
so
I
think
we've
had
some
excellent
sales,
which
were
critical
to
Canadian
pictures,
including
Indian
horse,
which
was
one
that
was
done
by
our
organization,
as
well
as
just
Tiffin
general,
which
is
a
huge
draw
for
tourism.

City
of
Toronto
and
I.

Was
wondering,
given
the
informal
character
of
the
relationships
that
people
in
the
business
might
have
when
they
bump
into
friends
or
people
in
the
set
working
in
the
same
general
area?
If
they
had
observations
about
what
could
be
done
to
further
improve
filmmaking
in
Toronto
or
if
they
reinforced
and
through
their
conversations,
the
perceptions
that
we
have
of
ourselves?

I
could
go
on
for
hours
about
just
the
perceptions
that
people
have
about
Toronto
in
the
film
industry
globally,
because
I've
been
there
have
been
Delhi
I've
been
to
India
talking
about
the
Toronto
film
industry
and
it
is
received
in
high
regard
around
the
world
high
quality
of
technicians,
the
high
quality
of
the
studio
space,
the
fact
the
city,
through
this
committee,
through
the
Film
Board
through
the
mayor's
office
through
councilors,
that
support
shooting
in
their
Ward,
both
with
the
shooting
and
the
businesses
that
exist
from
this
industry
in
their
Ward.
They
appreciate
it.

They
appreciate
what
they
what
has
been
achieved
here
and
they
want
to
see
it
succeed,
so
it
is
held
in
the
highest
regard.
Globally,
no
red
flags,
there's
always
red
flags.
There
will
always
have
to
be
red
flags.
This
industry
is
constantly
changing
and
it
changes
rapidly
and
I
think
the
city
needs
to
change
with
it,
as
does
the
industry
in
Toronto
need
to
change
with
it
and
I.
Think.
One
of
the
biggest
concerns
is
the
amount
of
studio
space
beside
the
workforce
development
piece.

So
we
need
to
increase
the
amount
of
studio
space
that
we
have.
If
we
want
to
surpass
the
2.1
billion
dollar
mark,
we
need
to
maintain
the
studio
space
that
we
currently
have
in
Portland's
and
in
the
eastern
and
district,
and
if
we
don't
do
that,
we
could
definitely
see
some
larger
red
flags
and
we're
currently
seeing
so
there's
concerns
out
there.
But
I
think
that
there's
more
positive
news
than
negative
news
I
remember.

Cinna
space
just
announced
the
plans
they
have
both
fifty
thousand
square
feet
that
they've
broken
ground
on
now,
and
part
of
that
includes
the
development
of
what
is
commonly
referred
to
as
a
water
tank,
so
a
place
where
you
can
do
underwater
filming
or
water,
filming
and
I
believe.
There's
another
initiative.

Others
floating
around
there
so
on
the
Pinewood
facility,
I
believe,
there's
discussion
about
that
potentially
and
then
there's
other
developers
who
are
out
there,
both
currency
owners
and
new
players
to
the
system
who
are
looking
for
employment
lands
in
and
around
the
City
of
Toronto,
including
in
the
study
area,
where
they
can
break
ground
and
and
spend
money,
foreign
money,
potentially,
but
definitely
local
money
on
developing
high
quality
to
your
a
studio
space
that
will
attract
and
continue
to
attract
high
quality,
tier
II
productions.
Both
television
and
film
now.

economic

dynamics

employment

City

Toronto.
Look
at
the
factors
for
success
for
the
film
industry,
and
one
of
the
factors
for
success
is
clustering.

In
the
film
industry
we
have
a
cluster
that
is
around
the
mega
stage
and
a
number
of
other
studios
in
the
south
of
Eastern
and
Portland's.
We
also
have
another
emerging
cluster,
which
is
in
councilor
Grimes
area
and
councillor
two
channels
area
on
kipling
avenue
which
hosts
William,
F,
white
and
large
studios.

So
we
needed
to
test
our
clusters
important
or
can
you
have
film
studios
that
always
follows
throughout
the
city
and
the
conclusion
is
yes,
they
are
and
that
there's
certain
factors
that
are
important
and
that
has
to
do
with
proximity
to
transportation,
proximity
to
downtown.
The
same
reason.
People
like
to
be
in
Toronto
at
TIFF
is
the
same
reason
that
people
like
to
shoot
close
to
downtown
because
it's
easier
for
them
to
get
back
and
forth.
So
it
is
a
challenge
at
this
point
to
maintain
that
cluster
and
grow
that
cluster.

But
there
are
different
recommendations
here
in
order
to
achieve
that,
and
one
of
them
is
to
have
a
strategy,
a
very
clear
strategy
within
the
growth
in
this
area
in
the
south
of
Eastern
Area,
and
also
the
Portland
to
maintain
the
film
cluster,
and
that
also
requires
a
commitment
and
I
know.
There
is
a
commitment,
through
economic
development,
to
figure
out
the
fine
nuances
as
downtown
is
moving
east.
And
how
do
we
maintain
this
particular
feature?

We've
been
very
successful
and
the
my
co-chair,
who
is
fantastic
and
all
the
film
board
members
which
includes
our
our
film
viewer
official
film
viewer,
councillor
Kelly
in
looking
at
ways
to
include
film
in
important
areas,
one

them
being
the
King
Street
pilot
study,
the
other
being
the
Teal'c
or
the
other
being
Expo.

what's
the
impact
on
filming.

we

the

the

been

Music
City,
Toronto
Music
City
is
a
federal,
not-for-profit
in
partnership
with
the
Daniels
Corporation.
We
are
seeking
to
develop
a
hundred
unit,
affordable
housing
development
exclusively
for
musicians
in
Regent
Park.
Our
vision
is
to
create
a
container
for
innovation
and
creativity,
a
space
for
musicians
to
live,
work
grow
and
play
and
which
offers
opportunities
to
collaborate
with
creatives
in
film
digital
media
and
technology
and
to
commercialize
their
works
through
third
party
media
partners.

envision
this
building
and
its
facilities
and
its
spaces
as
being
integral
to
the
region
park
community
and
adding
to
the
vibrancy
of
that
community,
as
it
already
is

zoned
and
it's
shovel
ready.
This
project
could
be
under
construction
realistically
by
2018
and
done
by
2020.
We
have
architectural
plans.
We
have
a
partner
in
terms
of
one
of
the
best
builders
in
the
GTA
being
Daniels,
and
the
Daniels
Corporation
supports
this
project
at
the
highest
levels,
and
we
could
not,
frankly
wish
for
a
better
partner.

We
have
a
rate
written
mortgage
commitment
from
a
leading
financial
institution.
What
we
need
right
now
to
move
this
project
forward
is
an
injection
of
some
type
of
money,
so
that
Daniels
and
Music
City
can
tie
up
the
land
and
move
it
forward.
We
have
a
written
mortgage
commitment
for
up
to
two
thirds
of
the
property,
so
we
are
we're
very
much
ready
to
go.

This
project
also
has
municipal
support
from
several
city
councilors,
who
have
expressed
their
support
for
the
project.
It's
also
supported
by
the
industry.
We
have.
We
have
support
from
folks,
like
SOCAN
from
the
major
record
labels
who
are
standing
up
and
recognizing
that
this
is
a
need
for
the
Toronto
music
ecosystem
and
they're
willing
to
support
this.

In
addition,
to
those
reasons,
I
want
to
tempest
a
couple
of
points,
I
think
what
we've
created
here
is
an
opportunity.
It's
is
a
limited-time
opportunity
and
to
rare
opportunity
and
a
lot
of
the
heavy
lifting
has
already
been
done
to
get
this
to
this
point,
and
what
we're
looking
for
here
from
the
city
is
some
recognition
of
support,
whether
that's
in
kind,
whether
that
is
financial,
to
move
it
forward.

every
time
we
talk
to
the
feds
or
the
LMDC
about
this
project,
which
we
have
their
answer
is
always
well.
What
is
the
city's
position?
What
does
the
city
think
and
we've
been
unable
to
concretely
answer
that
and
I'd
like
to
be
able
to
do
that,
and
we've
talked
a
lot
about
branding
and
I
know
councillor
Kelly
you
you
talked
about
this
as
well.
We
heard
from
the
Toronto
Global
folks
on
branding
the
city
I.

Think
projects
like
this
and
this
specific
opportunity
is
a
fantastic
way
to
bring
the
city
and
to
celebrate
our
cool
and
to
attract
people
here.
Nothing
in
the
world
in
terms
of
affordable
housing
for
creatives
exists
at
this
scale.
There's
a
few
units
in
Nashville
a
few
in
New
York,
but
there's
nothing
rapidly
with
this
kind
of
scale.
So
in
just

wrap

to

its

if
there's
an
opportunity

work
with
the
affordable
housing
office
and
with
other
city

to
make
this

such

difference
isn't
as
dramatic
as
it
used
to
be
so
we're
still
sort
of
in
the
good
side
of
being

wrong
