Hi,, I'm wiley baker and welcome to the sixth year of ann arundel, county public, school's.

A

'athletes n action'. at chesapeake high school,. Let's stick our neck in with two time: defending 3 a state.

A

Champion cougar field hockey team, and head coach,, joan johnson.

A

When it comes to chesapeake cougar field, hockey,, it's more than a team.

B

Its family. [joan], we know what hard work needs to be put into the program.

B

coaching., two of us played under gerry taylor,, and I still communicate with her til. This day.

B

A lot she put into this program, we're trying to do the same exact thing.

C

They're, just an amazing group of girls,. There are a lot of freshmen coming in that.

C

I'm really excited to work with.

D

Throughout the practices we've just come together and been working really well together,.

D

With passing. everybody's getting playing time,, you know, you're playing almost the whole game, so there.

E

Has to be a lot of support with everybody,, and since we have such small numbers,, we usually.

E

Have to work harder than most other teams.

B

My seniors are very focused and very motivated to come home with a third title.

B

They would love nothing more to continue making history here at school,. No one can ever take.

B

That away from you. [wiley], the coaches, fit staff, and squad, have come together to achieve amazing goals.

E

Joan being a graduate here, she's, so proud of this program.

E

It just makes her twice as a better coach as anyone else, because she has so much pride.

E

From being here,, so when she sees us win games and sees the progress, we're making, it just.

E

Makes her happy? Because she was once out on this field as well.

B

Being back here at my alma mater, it puts a little bit more importance on things.

B

I feel, like you, have a much higher dedication level playing for your alma mater, and wanting.

B

To come out here and do your best. [wiley] to keep this small but talented group of felines on the prowl,, the health.

A

Component is a key factor.

A

[joan]. We do have a strength and conditioning coach, kyle flynn from old line. Crossfit,.

B

And kyle speaks with them about nutrition when he's working with them.

C

We always try and maintain a healthy, good running.

C

And throughout the practices we have our coach, kyle, and he trains us and we keep up with.

C

Everything, and off the field, we always try to maintain a healthy diet.

D

[Hannah] we ask kyle about what we should be eating, and what we should be doing and.

D

He is very great at giving us advice and what we need to do.

A

[Wiley], smart cats,, it's all about that.

D

You definitely have to balance school and field hockey, and family and everything.

D

We try to do a little study. Hall, you know, after school,, before a game,. We try to get.

E

Together and study, do some homework.

B

I am very honored to have two national scholars of distinction on my team through the national.

B

Field hockey, coaches association.

B

both earned that honor as a junior last year: mason, fractal, and aaron beal.

B

So academics do come before athletics.

B

family,, school, and field hockey.

B

yeah charlotte!.

[Wiley] cougar fans, roar about their championship field hockey, team.

C

Last year, at the state championship,, we had a group of fans that actually took their.

C

Shirts off in the freezing cold weather, with 'cougars' written out on their chest.

C

And its just amazing to have such great fans.

B

[Joan], those kids are there and support each other,. Every sport supports each other,.

B

And I think that's important.

E

Two times state champions,, we were always the underdogs.

E

Our program's so small,, like nobody thought of it, and then we're all over the papers,.

E

Like wow! chesapeake, high school!, so more people just started coming.

A

To streak to another fantastic season?.

E

My goal, is, of course,, a three-peat.

E

that would just be amazing,, you know?, that's like, unheard of, really..

E

That would be an amazing goal. but,. We play one game at a time.

C

Maintaining a good head, space, and making sure we're not getting ahead of ourselves,.

C

Or we're not getting too beaten down on anything.

C

Just really make sure that we stay in the path that we want to follow.

D

Winning the states would make it the best season, but, just to go as far as we can, everybody.

D
