A
A
Hi
I'm
Donovan
Jackson,
the
public
information
officer
for
the
Ascension,
Parish,
Sheriff's,
Office
and
joining
me
today
is
Sheriff
Bobby
Weber
and
we
are
very
excited
to
introduce
to
you
the
2022
special
Apso
annual
report.
Now
Sheriff,
it's
been
a
while,
since
we've
put
out
a
report
like
this,
tell
us
why
it
was
so
important
for
you
to
make
sure
you
got
this
information
out
to
our
citizens.
Well,.
B
You
know
some
sheriffs
put
out
an
annual
report.
We
don't
do
that
here.
We
we'll
go
a
couple
years
and
then
we'll
put
out
a
special
report
and
it's
just
important
for
our
citizens
to
get
a
glance
of
what's
going
on
in
our
Sheriff's
Office
there's
so
many
facets
of
the
Sheriff's
Office.
Some
people
think
it's
it's
just
Patrol
or
it's
just
detectives.
B
No,
it's
a
full
service,
Sheriff's
Office
that
provides
a
lot
of
services
to
our
community
and
having
a
special
report,
gives
the
citizens
an
opportunity
to
see
what's
what's
going
on
in
our
sheriff's
office
at
this
time-
and
you
know
we
just
come
out
some
pretty
tough
years
in
Ascension
Parish
well
throughout
the
the
world
really,
and
we
wanted
to
take
the
opportunity
now
that
we
may
be
out
of
covid
just
to
let
our
citizen,
no
citizens,
know
what's
going
on
in
our
sheriff's
office,
but
before
we
get
too
much
further
into
that
report,
I
want
to
offer
a
special
thanks
to
Paris
government
for
allowing
us
to
use
this
beautiful,
new
studio
that
they
have
and
the
crew
that
works
there.
B
A
Us
to
use
it
definitely
certainly-
and
you
know,
like
you
said,
there's
a
lot
of
great
information
in
this
report.
You've
detailed
a
lot
of
the
great
things
that
we've
been
able
to
accomplish
since
2019
and
I
wanted
to
highlight
a
few
of
those
accomplishments.
One
of
the
big
things
that
I
noticed
when
you
first
open
up
is
Kalia
accreditation,
tell
us
a
little
bit
about
that
accreditation
and
how
it
impacts
our
community.
Our
relationship
with
the
community
well.
B
You
know
Donovan
I
will
soon
be
starting
my
38th
year
in
law
enforcement
and
one
of
the
things
I
wanted
to
do
as
a
sheriff
and
I'm
in
my
first
term
as
Sheriff
I
was
elected
in
2019,
is
I
wanted
to
see,
see
our
sheriffs
just
build
on
the
success
of
our
predecessors
and
one
of
the
ways
I
wanted
to
do.
That
was
take
on
the
challenging
challenges
of
being
accredited
through
a
national
accreditation
team
for
law
enforcement.
B
It's
rarely
done
we'll
be
only
the
fourth
sheriff's
office
in
Louisiana
to
be
accredited
and
there's
a
very
few
Across.
The
Nation
I
just
happen
to
be
a
wardened
several
years
ago,
and
I
was
able
to
get
our
jail
accredited
through
the
American
correction.
Association,
so
I
knew
what
that
meant.
So
having
that
under
your
belt,
taking
on
that
challenging
challenge
being
transparent,
applying
and
implementing
the
the
best
standards,
the
best
rules,
the
best
protocols
and
the
best
policies
in
law
enforcement
is
something
that
we
really
wanted
to
do.
It's
not
easy.
B
You
don't
go
through
accreditation,
because
it's
easy,
you
go
because
it's
hard
and
you
do
it
because
it's
challenging
and
I
will
say
it
was
a
three-year
process,
led
by
a
great
team
here
at
the
Ascension
Parish
Sheriff's
Office,
under
the
deputy
chief
Laura
grimio,
and
the
team
that
worked
with
her
and
it
took
everybody.
It
took
the
entire
Sheriff's
Office
to
now
Implement
and
live
by.
What
we
think
is
the
gold
standards
in
public
safety,
and
it's
just
it's
it's
good
to
do
it.
B
It's
great
policy,
it's
great
protocol,
it's
great
training
and
we
are
so
happy
that
we're
finally,
after
three
years
of
hard
work,
was
awarded
their
credit
that
accreditation
in
the
Sheriff's
Office
first
time
in
our
history
that
we've
been
accredited
and
I
always
will
say
this
that
you
don't
want
to
bring
your
parent
to
a
hospital.
That's
not
accredited
and
you
don't
want
to
send
your
child
to
a
school
or
a
college.
That's
not
accredited
it
is.
B
A
And-
and
is
this
something
once
you
get
that
accreditation,
you
got
it
it's
done
or
do
you
have
to
go
through
that
reaccreditation
process
and
stuff
like
that?
Just.
B
The
opposite:
some
will
say
that
the
the
easy
part
is
being
accredited
the
first
time
the
real
tough
job
is
becoming
reaccredited
and
you
become
reaccredited
every
four
years.
So
now
we
have
to
prove
that
we're
living
by
those
standards
that
we're
living
by
those
policies
that
we
adhere
into
the
training
protocol,
and
so
that's
the
tough
part.
So
so,
not
only
will
we
get
audited
every
year
by
Kalia
in
four
years,
they're
coming
back
in
a
big
way
to
make
sure
that
we
are
living
by
these
golden
standards
in
law
enforcement.
Awesome.
A
B
Nothing
is
more
precious
than
our
kids
and
what
we
do
with
them
every
day
is
we
send
them
to
school
and
there's
thousands
of
our
kids
today
in
our
high
schools,
our
middle
schools
and
our
elementary
schools,
and
we
worked
with
the
school
board
and
I
will
tell
you
this.
We
are
so
fortunate
in
Ascension
Parish
to
have
a
vibrant
school
board
and
a
unbelievable
school
superintendent
and
his
staff.
B
You
know
we
see
it
throughout
the
country,
it's
it's
our
greatest
fear,
years
ago,
when,
when
the
incident
happened
at
Sandy
Hook,
we
knew
we
had
to
do
more
than
just
provide
security
at
our
high
schools,
which
we
do,
which
we
did
then,
and
we
do
now.
We
had
to
get
into
our
middle
schools.
We
had
to
get
into
our
primary
schools
and
we
began
doing
that
where
our
officers
every
day
would
make
a
walk
through
of
all
of
our
primary
and
middle
schools,
and
that's
what
we
think
we
can
do.
B
We
can
also
build
on
that
a
lot
of
things
that
used
to
to
be
common.
For.
For
me,
when
I
was
in
school
with
fire
drills,
now
we
have
to
continue
the
fire
drills,
but
also
do
lock
down.
Drills
also
do
active,
shooter
drills,
and
we
usually
do
that
in
the
summer
when
there's
an
empty
school
that
we
can
train
in
and
the
school
board
allows
us
to
do
that.
But
it's
also
wonderful
to
build
a
relationship
with
the
deputies,
the
principals
at
the
schools
and
those
kids.
B
So
we
have
our
school
resource
officers,
our
school
security
officers
through
all
the
schools
we
permanent
in
the
high
school-
and
you
don't
want
to
I-
don't
want
to
tell
you
the
schedule,
but
it's
important
to
make
sure
that
our
deputies
get
leave
the
road
and
go
walk
through
our
middles
and
our
primaries
and
have
them
there
as
much
as
possible.
I
think
in
the
school
system,
they're
starting
to
build
schools
very
similar
now.
So
you
kind
of
know
the
layout
of
that
school.
B
But
it's
important
for
all
of
our
deputies
to
know
where
the
cafetorium
is
where's,
the
library
where's
the
front
office.
So
that's
important
so
we're
taking
that
to
another
level
here
at
the
Ascension
Parish
Sheriff's
Office,
and
we
we're
not
doing
it
alone,
we're
doing
it
with
a
great
superintendent,
his
administrative
staff
staff,
all
the
teachers
and
principals
and
a
unbelievable.
A
School
Board
awesome
and
you
know
not
to
get
off
track
too
much,
but
I
speaking
of
schools
and
education
and
students.
I
saw
this
great
picture
here
with
you
doing
some
construction
there,
and
that
looks
like
something
that
we
have
going
on
in
Donaldsonville,
where
there's
the
groundbreaking
or
where
there's
doing
some
work
for
Education
Early
Education
Center.
Can
you
tell
us
a
little
bit
about
that
Center
and
and
what
inspired
you
all
to
do
that
yeah.
B
So
it's
it's
a
great
story:
Donovan!
You
know
we
believed
in
community
outreach.
We
believed
it
in
a
big
way
and
we
put
it
on
steroids.
Now
we're
doing
things
in
our
community
that
probably
no
other
sheriff's
office
in
the
region
is
doing.
B
The
city
of
Donaldsonville
has
always
been
involved
because
that
Park
and
that
Center
is
located
right
there
in
the
heart
of
Donaldsonville
in
an
affectionate
place,
we
called
back
a
town,
but
now
we
move
into
another
level.
We
are
going
to
build
with
Partnerships
a
early
childhood
development
center
right
there
on
that
lot.
In
Donaldsonville
right
off
of
St
Patrick
Street,
there
was
an
old
school
there,
the
old
west
Ascension
Elementary
that
was
built
in
1966..
B
We
was
able
to
tear
that
school
down
and
open
up
that
land
and
working
with
Paris
government,
the
schools,
the
library,
the
city
of
Donaldsonville,
I,
hope
in
2024
you're,
going
to
see
a
a
real
early
childhood
development
center
being
built
right
there
next
to
our
park
in
Donaldsonville.
We're
really
excited
about
that.
That's
going
to
be
something
that
you
haven't
seen
before:
I,
don't
I,
think
it'll
be
a
model
for
Ascension
Parish,
but
I
also
think
it'll
be
a
model
for
the
state
and
the
nation.
When
we
have
that
complete
awesome
going.
A
B
Again,
you
know,
after
37
years
in
law
enforcement
and
always
trying
to
build
Upon
Our
Success.
You
know,
we've
seen
the
growth
in
Ascension
Parish,
we've
seen
it
like
never
before
it's
one
of
the
fastest
growing
parishes
in
the
state,
and
it
has
been
for
the
last
oh
15,
20
years,
so
we've
seen
that
kind
of
growth
and
it
was
important
for
us
to
say
you
know
what
there's
so
many
people
that
are
living
here
now
and
for
good
reason.
B
B
We
broke
it
down
into
those
districts
and
we
assigned
a
captain
with
his
supervisory
staff,
his
lieutenants,
his
staff
sergeant
and
the
road
deputies
who
are
now
in
charge
of
a
smaller
geographical
area,
and
you
have
to
have
buy-in
to
your
District
that
Captain
I
hold
him
responsible.
I
expect
him
to
know.
Where's
the
businesses
are
or
where's
the
subdivision
where's.
B
The
residence
and
I
expect
his
patrolman
to
know
that
District,
like
the
back
of
their
hand,
so
whether
that
so,
rather
than
one
captain
or
one
Lieutenant
running
the
the
whole
Parish
they're
restricted
to
a
district,
and
that's
worked
out
very
very
well.
I've
heard
a
lot
of
compliments
from
our
residents
that
they
really
like
having
those
districts
just
strategically
placed
throughout
the
parish
district.
One
is
our
historical
district
in
Donaldsonville,
our
Paris
seat
and
District.
Two
is
kind
of
that.
B
Santa
Monica,
Sorrento
AC
area
and
three
is
probably
our
most
populated
district,
and
that's
going
to
be
that
North
End
that
previo
Galvez
Dutchtown
area.
That's
seeing
a
lot
of
growth.
So
it's
worked
out
really
really
well
for
us,
and
those
captains
take
their
job
very
seriously
and
it
seems
to
be
going
well
because
now,
as
you
know,
we're
seeing
so
many
calls
for
services.
What
I
think
the
last
census
had
is
that
about
126
000.
A
Awesome
and
going
back
to
kind
of
talking
about
in
when
you're
talking
about
Partnerships
with
the
Parish
government.
There
was
some
discussion
in
here
about
the
glcea,
the
partnership
that
we
have
with
the
parish
is
that
something
you
can
kind
of
elaborate
on
a
little
bit
of
why
it's
so
important
to
build
that
partnership.
Well,.
B
Having
a
partnership
is
important
in
any
business
that
you
do
at
the
jail
is
real
important,
I,
don't
know
how
many
of
our
citizens
really
know
this,
but
in
Louisiana
it's
a
little
unique.
The
sheriff
by
law
is
The
Keeper
of
the
jail,
but
Powers
government
owns
the
jail
and
they
provide
the
resources
for
that
jail,
including
maintenance,
but
guess
who's
at
that
jail
every
day,
the
warden
his
security
staff,
Correctional
staff.
We
know
that
jail
inside
and
out
and
that's
what
we
should
know.
So
it
was
a
I
think
a
win-win
situation.
B
When
we
talked
with
this
Administration,
this
new
Administration
has
said
you
know
what
we
probably
can
handle
the
maintenance
of
the
jail
more
efficient
than
than
Paris
government,
not
that
they
didn't
do
a
great
job
that
Jail's
been
around
for
a
long
time.
Some
of
that
jail
was
is
50
years
old
and
there's
been
expansion
throughout
the
years,
and
you
know
what
they
took
a
look
at
it.
B
They
want
to
do
the
right
thing
and
they
like
to
try
to
do
cost
saving
measures
and,
and
they
agreed
they
said
you
know
what
we
can
sign
a
contract-
Sheriff,
we'll
let
you
handle
the
maintenance
of
the
jail,
because
you
know
it.
You
know
what
part
of
the
roof
needs
to
be
fixed.
You
know
what
Plumbing
is
going
bad
and
that
has
worked
out
that's
fairly
new,
but
it's
worked
out
really
well.
B
Not
only
do
we
think
we're
doing
it
more
efficiently
and
again,
not
to
say
Parish
government
wasn't
but
we're
doing
it
more
efficiently,
and
we
think
we
can
save
money
so
going
into
those
type
of
agreements
is
very,
very
important
and
we
do
that
all
the
time
we
do
it
with
the
library
we
do
it
with
the
schools
and
it's
nice
to
now.
Do
it
with
Paris
government
on
a
big
ticket
item,
which
is
the
Ascension
Parish
jail.
Awesome.
A
B
Yes,
there's
going
to
be
always
challenges
in
law
enforcement.
I
will
tell
you
this.
Throughout
the
country
we
have
seen
a
rise
in
violent
crimes
and
we
have
not
been
immune
to
it
here
in
Ascension
Parish.
We
have
seen
our
rise
in
in
violent
crime.
This
was
this
report
was
a
lot
of
the
data
from
this
report
has
taken
in
2021
and
we
had
I
think
seven
homicides
in
2021..
Now,
luckily,
we
was
able
to
solve
six
now,
you
don't
want
any
homicide,
but
we
had
seven
and
we
solved
six
this
year.
B
The
numbers
I
think
is
going
to
be
even
a
little
bit
higher
than
that.
So
we
have
to
do
some
things
working
with
our
legislation
and
our
delegation,
and
we
have
a
good
legislative
delegation
to
try
to
reel
in
some
of
these
things
and
get
tough
on
criminals
again.
I
think
we've
released
too
many
criminals
back
into
our
streets.
I,
just
I
feel
that's
one
of
the
reasons.
There's
other
reasons.
B
Obviously
I
mean
you
can't
say:
there's
one
valuable
that
will
cause
crime
to
increase,
there's
always
going
to
be
multiple
variables
for
that,
but
certainly
some
of
the
laws
that
we
have
to
take
a
look
at
you
know
we
are
continue,
we're
not
slowing
down.
We
will
continue
to
grow,
so
we
have
to
see
now
how
many
more
deputies
that
we
can
put
on
the
streets.
We
do
an
unbelievable
job
at
recruiting,
but
you
never
stop
recruiting.
B
So
you
have
to
look
at
your
budget,
see
how
many
more
deputies
can
we
add
to
try
to
retain
deputies.
That's
a
tough
deal
because
you
know
the
national
media
sometimes
is
beating
up
on
law
enforcement
and
I
will
say:
I'll
be
the
first
to
say
this
law
enforcement's,
not
perfect,
a
police
officer
and
a
deputy
sheriff
they're,
not
perfect,
they're
human
and
they
do
make
mistakes
and
I'll
be
a
sheriff
to
tell
you
that
some
when
they
make
those
mistakes
they
need
to
be
disciplined.
B
Some
need
to
be
terminated
and
never
allowed
to
work
in
law
enforcement
again
and
some
deputies.
If
they
break
the
law,
they
need
to
be
arrested
and
prosecuted,
but
this
year
alone,
I
want
you
to
think
about
this
Law
Enforcement
Officers
throughout
the
country.
They
will
have
contacted
over
60
million
people
and
less
than
one
tenth
of
one
percent
will
result
in
a
mistake
being
made
by
a
police
officer.
That's
an
astonished
astounding,
a
track
record.
B
If
you
ask
me
and
I
tell
young
men
and
young
women
that
working
in
law
enforcement
is
still
an
honorable
profession
and
we're
doing
everything
we
can
to
recruit
young
men
and
women
to
come
to
the
Ascension
Parish
Sheriff's
Office.
We
are
very
fortunate.
We
live
in
a
great
Parish,
we
well
funded.
We've
got
an
unbelievable
school
system.
It's
it's
great
to
live
here.
We
have
a
lot
to
offer
so
again
getting
those
deputies
we're
doing
a
good
job
at
recruiting.
B
Then
you
have
to
train
them,
then
you
have
to
retain
them
and
that's
our
some
of
our
challenges
and
we
have
to
fight
back
this
increase
in
violent
crime.
So
I'm,
looking
forward
to
the
the
next
several
years
as
servant
as
sheriff
and
and
looking
forward
to
working
through
these
challenges
with
my
Command
Staff
I,
think
you,
this
report
will
introduce
some
of
my
Command
Staff
and
let
let
the
folks
know
who's
helping
me
run
this
sheriff's
office.
B
So
it's
going
to
be
I
I
think
a
a
great
challenge
in
the
next
couple
years.
It
will
be
one
that
we
can
certainly
handle.
I
will
tell
you
this
in
my
first
term,
as
sheriff
with
this
unbelievable
team
that
we've
had
19
looked
great,
we
came
out
making
a
lot
of
changes.
Then
we
got
in
early
2020.
The
world
shut
down
right,
covid
here
and
I
also
try
to
remind
people
that,
in
in
between
2020
and
2021
Ascension
Parish
found
themselves
in
the
cone
of
over
six
hurricanes,
and
then
we
get
hit
by
item.
B
So
it's
it's
the
first
time
in
my
career
that
I
worked
on
the
several
emergency
proclamations
from
the
governor
at
the
same
time.
So
we
we
worked
our
way
through
the
pandemic,
Ida
Spanish
pretty
much.
We
still
had
a
lot
of
damage,
I
think
it
could
have
been
worse,
but
preparing
for
that
and
being
ready
for.
That
is
something
that
this
Sheriff's
Office
is
good
at.
B
Hopefully,
in
my
career,
we'll
never
see
another
pandemic
and
we
always
are
going
to
be
ready
for
any
emergency
that
that
hits
us
and
I
will
tell
you
this
and
one
of
talking
about
another
challenge:
Fentanyl
that
that
drug
is
killing
more
of
our,
not
just
young
young
old
black
white.
They
don't
care.
B
We
are
seeing
more
and
more
overdose
deaths
by
Fentanyl,
and
it
is
a
you
talk
about
an
epidemic,
and
something
has
to
be
done
about
that,
because
we
see
in
that
more
and
more
Donovan,
so
I'm
looking
forward
to
working
with
this
team
for
the
next
several
years
as
sheriff
and
I,
don't
think
anything
can
be
thrown
out.
Our
way
that
we
can't
handle
awesome
well.
A
Sir,
if
I
must
say
it's
been
a
pleasure
working
with
you
all
over
at
least
the
last
year
and
stuff
I've
been
really
honored
working
with
this
team,
great
work
that
you
all
are
doing
here
in
Ascension
and
with
the
community
again
