so
I'm
not
very
knowledgeable
in
things
Transportation,
so
I'll
be
stopping
you
every
now
and
then
to
you
know,
explain
a
little
more
in
detail,
because
you
do
so
much
more
than
what
the
public
would
imagine.
You
do
and
I
think
it's
a
good
time
to
educate,

and
you
know,
inform
as
well
as
go
over
the
ongoing
projects
that
you
have
I
know.

So,
as
Sam
mentioned,
I'm
an
urban
planner
in
the
transportation
department
and
I
think
in
the
most
simple
terms.
That
means
that
I
work
on
projects
that
involve
sidewalks
that
involve
pedestrians,
Greenways
folks
on
bicycles,
thinking
about
how
we
can
get
people
to
move
around
the
city
in
a
safe
way,
regardless
of
how
they
want
to
travel.

I
do
a
lot
of
the
same
things
as
Anna,
however,
I
oversee
the
division
that
we
work
in
so
I
work
on
a
higher
level
with
other
departments,
projects
bringing
in
the
transportations
work
into
other
planning
and
Urban
Design
projects,
perhaps
for
an
example,
and
we
work
a
lot
with
public
works
and
follow
stormwater
projects
to
make
sure
the
sidewalks
will
be
built
correctly
and
any
Ada
issues
are
addressed
with
that.
So
we
can
keep
improving
Ada
issues
around
the
city,
so.

Yeah,
we
have
multiple
divisions
in
the
department
so
where
the
transportation
planning
division,
there's
also
the
transit
division,
which
deals
exclusively
with
the
buses
and
that's
more
than
a
full-time
job
for
multiple
people.
And
then
we
have
the
parking
division
who
deal
with
all
of
the
parking
spaces
in
Asheville
and
then
the
engineering
department,
which
also
has
the
sign
shop.
So
all
the
street
signs
stop
signs
things
that
you
see
mounted
on.

So
this
is
an
exciting
project
because
it
is
really
a
keystone
in
adding
protected
bike
facilities
in
our
downtown
core
folks
who
drive
on
Asheville
streets
who
walk,
who
also
bike
they'll.
You
know
you
see
that
we
do
have
some
bike
Lanes
going
into
downtown,
particularly
on
Cox
avenue
or
or
Lexington
and
certain
other
places,
but
we
don't
really
have
a
good
East-West
connection
for
dedicated
bike
facilities,
yep
and
the
college
patent
bike.

Yeah
yeah,
one
of
my
biggest
fears
is
just
you
know
that
moment
where
I
might
potentially
hit
someone
on
the
bike,
because
I
didn't
see
them
or
because
there's
just
not
enough
room,
so
I'm
really
happy
that
especially
downtown
can
I
get
pretty
busy
as
well.
No
just
let's
just
make
Asheville
safer
for
everyone.

That's
right,
yeah
and
I.
Think
one
thing
that's
also
exciting
about
this-
that
you
might
not
pick
up
on
just
from
the
project
name
itself
is
that
it
does
improve
safety
for
pedestrians
too,
for
people
walking
around
downtown
it
part
of
the
project
or
the
sort
of
design
components
include
making
some
of
the
crosswalks
more
high
visibility,
so
that
they're
easier
to
see
and
also
creating
a
buffer
between
the
cars
that
are
traveling
on
the
streets
and
the
sidewalk
through
that
bike
lane.

We
heard
feedback
that
we
needed
to
do
some
more
engagement
to
potentially
tweak
that
design
to
make
it
work
better
for
everybody,
and
so
we
held
a
public
event
four
weeks
ago
today
at
the
collider
downtown,
where
folks
could
come
and
give
us
feedback
and
learn
about
the
project.
But
as
follow-up
to
that,
we
also
have
a
public
survey
that
is
available
on
the
project
page
and
we're
collecting
responses
to
that
survey
through
Monday
June
5th.
So
how.

that
it's
meaningful

and
the
questions
that
we're
asking
on
that
survey

dealing
with.

often
you
travel
on
these

things

important

you

you
are
traveling?

you
concerned
about
speeds?
Are
you
concerned
about
your
safety
as
a
pedestrian?
Are
you
concerned
about
your
safety
as
a
bicyclist
things
like
that,
and
also
what
types
of
facilities?

the

way

is
to

that's
the
main

the
city's

You'll
see
a
button

the
top
right
corner
that
says
projects

you
can
click
on
that
button
and
all
of
the
active
projects
that
the
city
is
is
working
on.
Right
now
are
essentially
on
that
page
and
they're
listed
in
alphabetical
order.

do
like
to
we
want
to
have
more
engagement
in
general
with
City,
so
it's
always
good
to
see
that
you
know
people
might
ask
how
do
I
get
here.
It's

good
to
have

experts
come
to
the
show

say
it

exactly
how
you
do
it
there's
no
excuses
he's
right
there
for
you,
yeah,
so
yeah
I'll
answer

a

take
us
some
time
to
compile
all
of
that
information.
But
once
we
do
we'll
also
look
at
any
changes
that
we
might
be
able
to
make
to
the
design
based
on
that
feedback
that
we've
received
and
will
ultimately
make
a
presentation
to
city
councils,
public
and
economic
development
committee
and
then
from
there
I.
Think.
The
sort
of
the
next
steps
that
we
envision
are
developing
a
bid
for
construction
and
implementation
and
then
ultimately,
selecting
a
contractor
for
that
bid
and
going
to
council
for
them
to
approve
that
and.

just
finding
some
random
construction
company
from
someone's
backyard
to
you
know
do
this.
You
need
to
take
the
steps
to
make
sure
that
it's
you
know,
quality
right
and
that's
why
it
takes
so
long
and
but

end

the
day
you
know.
Hopefully
we
deliver
a
nice
good.
Looking
useful
and
safe
I
don't
know
construction,
new
sidewalks,
so
I
do
appreciate.

steps
that
you
take
for
making
sure
that
Asheville
stays
safe,

This
particular
Project's
been
really
complicated
because
I
mean
no
big
surprise.
Downtown
is
very
busy
and
there's
a
lot
of
businesses
in
the
area
that
we're
talking
about
a
lot
of
loading
zone
needs
and
their
street
parking,
and
so
all
of
those
things
need
to
be
considered
and
people
who
would
enjoy
riding
bikes
more
or
would
find
riding
bikes
easier
to
get
around
in
downtown
are
not
able
to
do
it
as
easily
as
if
we
had
a
bike
Network
downtown
right,
but
this
is
more
than
a
bike
project.

Ashville
unpaved
is
a
is
a
project
that
we're
working
on
with
Community
Partners,
who
are
willing
to
raise
the
funds
to
build
dirt
trails
in
and
throughout
Asheville,
and
we're
working
on
three
pilot
projects.
Right
now,
one
is
behind
Nashville
Middle
School
in
Aston
Park
in
the
bakote
branch
Forest.
The
other
is
at
the
French
Broad
River
West
Greenway
area,
that
is
Duke
property,
that
the
city
leases
for
99
years
and
the
third
is
Azalea
Park
out
by
the
Nature
Center
and
the
soccer
fields
and
they're
all
very
we're.

In
the
preliminary
phase,
our
partners
are
asphalon
bikes,
connect,
Buncombe
and
Pisgah
sorba,
and
they
have
been
doing
a
great
job
working
with
us
as
partners.
Right
now,
we're
in
the
public
engagement
phase
to
take
a
look
at
these
dirt
trails.
That
will
be
good
for
hiking
and
biking
throughout
different
areas
of
downtown.

ones
for
hiking
they're,
called
multi-use
Trails
will
be
wider
and
the
ones
that
we're
saying
are
for
bikes
are
going
to
be
built
for
bike
riding,
which
means
they'll
be
able
to
handle
the
the
curves
better

like
armored.

they

them
so
that
you
they
are
built

they'll.

take
the
weight
of
speeding,
bikes
and
things,

it's
pretty
exciting
I've,
you

worked
for
the
city
for
almost
10
years
and
I've
been
hearing
so
many
places
every
corner
of
town
wants.
Dirt
trails

part
of
the
greenway
program,
because
they're
cheaper
to
build
and
faster
to
put
in
and
any
time
that
we
can
provide
people
in
Asheville.

think
this

a
good

about
the
Asheville

this
is
something
that
for
the

we've

you

needs

be
done
with
the
city

to
the

at
the
same
time
we
have
not
quite
made
it
to
the
point
where
I
explain.

goes
next

the

When
they
click
submit,
it
gets
directed
to
City
staff,
based
on
the
type
of
request
that
that
the
public
submits
and
it
isn't
as
simple
as
just
responding
to
that
and
it
being
done
because
there
are
so
many
potholes
in
the
city,
or
there
are
so
many
sidewalks
that
need
attention
or
other
things
like
that.
So
A
lot
of
times,
we
do
have
a
long
queue
and
sort
of
have
to
prioritize
based
on
the
staff
that
are
available
and
have
the
expertise
and
knowledge
to
fix
those
things
and
and
work
that
into
our
schedule.

has
other
projects
that
we're
we're
working
on.
So
I
think
that
it's
always
folks
ask
I've
heard
them.

know
say
well.

anybody
seeing

request

it
comes

would
say
yes

least
I'm

ones

come
through
to
me
and
other
folks.
I've
talked
to,
we
do
see
those
and
we
do
take
them
seriously
and
I
always
emphasize
to
folks
too,

thing

simply
say

just

fill
it
up
immediately

it
would
be
great
if
it
was

so

the

pothole
side
of
things,
I
can't
speak
to
that
super
well,

that
is
a
different
department,
but
we
do
get
requests
about,
let's
say,
for
instance,
on
Amboy
Road
across
from
the
climbing
gym
and
the
park.
There
is
a
pedestrian
Crossing
and
we've
gotten
requests
that
the
the
button
or
the
light
goes
out,
and
we
know
that
and
staff
know
that,
but
sometimes
it
takes
time
to
order
parts
and
equipment
and
get
that
stuff
installed.
So
what
looks
like
on
our
end,
you
know
moving
things
forward.

exactly
what
you're
talking
about
so
okay
that
that
so
I
hope
that
really
helps
listeners
understand
like
I,
know,
there's
so
many
jokes
and
stereotypes
or
city
employees
and
City
work,
and
there
might
be
some
truth
behind
it.
But

truth
is
it's
a
little
different.

it's
not
that
we're
not
working,
it's
that
it
just
takes
time
and
we
cannot
just
you
know,
put
a
sticker
on
that
and
fix
it
right
away
and
super
quick
