B
Welcome
to
the
monthly
meeting
of
the
town
talk
with
the
mayor.
This
is
our
first
exercise
of
doing
this.
Previously,
we've
done
hhi
tv
we've
done
our
website,
but
we
thought
it's
important
to
have
this
type
of
format,
so
we
can
answer
questions
back
from
our
citizens
about
what's
going
on
well
we're
fortunate
this
afternoon
to
have
carolyn
grant
with
us
she's
the
executive
producer
and
the
creator
of
this
show
carolyn
welcome.
B
A
So
all
they
have
to
do
is
submit
those
questions
to
us
at
communications,
hilton,
head
island
sc.gov,
and
we
will
get
those
to
be
a
part
of
the
show
and
have
have
you
or
other
guests
to
answer
those
questions.
A
Right
now,
just
once
a
month-
and
I
say
that
because
we
do
communicate
in
many
other
ways-
we
have
all
of
our
social
media
channels
that
we
use
facebook
nextdoor
youtube
twitter.
So
we
get
information
out
that
way.
We
also
have
shows
on
whi
that
we
are
part
of
so
we
get
information
out
that
way
and
then
we
also
send
out
news
releases
on
a
weekly
basis
and
we
have
several
newsletters
that
we
send
out
all
in
an
effort
to
keep
our
community
residents
informed
about
town
news
and
projects.
The.
B
A
Right
right
and
so
having
those
questions
that
again
when
they
send
us
the
questions,
we
can
invite
different
guests
to
come
on
and
answer
those
questions
and
have
a
conversation
with
you
as
a
town
leader,
and
I
think
people
enjoy
hearing
from
you,
as
well
as
a
representative
of
our
town
council
and
of
our
community.
And
so
you
know.
Having
that
conversation
with
different
guests
will
enlighten
audiences
and
you're.
A
A
A
Also,
we
have
an
e-subscription
service,
so
people
can
go
online
and
sign
up
to
receive
newsletters
and
other
updates
from
the
town
based
on
whatever
topic
that
they
might
be
interested
in.
But
you
know.
We
certainly
hope
that
our
viewers
will
definitely
follow
us
on
all
of
our
social
media
channels,
as
well
as
subscribe
to
our
get
our
news
and
updates.
A
A
So
mayor,
one
of
the
an
example
of
a
question
that
the
public
may
submit
is,
for
instance,
over
the
weekend.
There
were
people
out
at
allender's
beach
park
and
they
saw
green
ribbons
around
a
tree
and
so
immediately
somebody's
already
asking.
Why
are
those
green
ribbons
tied
around
those
trees
at
islander
park?
B
A
C
B
A
B
With
that,
I
thank
you
very
much
and
we'll
look
forward
to
you
producing
the
rest
of
these
shows.
Thank
you.
Thank
you.
Yeah.
Our
next
guest
joining
us
today
is
the
deputy
manager
of
the
town
of
hilton,
head
josh,
gruber.
B
B
C
Well,
thank
you
very
much.
I
think
most
people
who
know
me
that's
a
pretty
obvious
statement,
but
I
appreciate
you
making
sure
that
those
that
didn't
know
they
now
know.
I
am
the
number
one
fan
well.
Thank
you
for
having
me
here
today.
I
wanted
to
take
an
opportunity
to
help
educate
the
public
a
little
bit
more
about
the
redistricting
process
that
we're
currently
going
through
here
at
the
town.
C
Another
word
for
redistricting
is
reapportionment,
and
what
that
means
is
that
every
10
years,
when
the
federal
government
conducts
the
census,
we
take
the
new
information
that
comes
in
from
the
federal
government
regarding
our
population,
and
we
use
that
information
to
redraw
the
boundaries
of
the
town
council
wards
to
make
sure
that
we've
got
a
roughly
equal
number
of
people
in
each
district
and
that
way
everybody
who
votes
and
participates
in
the
democratic
process.
Their
vote
counts
as
much
as
everybody
else's
vote.
C
Obviously,
people
know
that
when
you
talk
to
your
neighbors
and
talk
to
your
friends,
you
wind
up
forming
these
communities
of
interest
and
a
lot
of
times.
You
share
the
same
thoughts
and
same
beliefs,
and
so
we
want
to
try
and
draw
districts
on
the
island
that
meet
all
of
the
required
constitutional
principles,
but
also
take
into
account
these
communities
of
interest
and
try
to
protect
those
and
keep
them
together
so
that
you're
voting
with
other
similar
like-minded
people
on
these
issues.
C
For
this
process,
when
town
council
adopts
an
ordinance
redrawing
the
district
boundaries,
that
will
be
the
final
action
on
this
matter.
Historically,
it
used
to
be
that
you
had
to
take
the
maps
that
you
wanted
to
put
in
place
and
you
would
have
to
send
them
off
to
the
federal
government
and
they
would
have
to
get
blessed
and
then
come
back
to
you
before
you
could
finalize
them.
C
C
Yeah
one
of
one
of
the
things
that
makes
this
somewhat
interesting
is
that
obviously
our
population
isn't
spread
out
evenly
across
the
island.
We've
got
certain
places
where
we've
got
a
large
concentration
of
people
who
live
here
year
round.
We've
got
other
populations
where
we
don't
have
a
large
concentration
of
people
that
are
here
year
round
and
when
we're
working
with
these
maps,
we
have
to
take
up
drawing
those
lines
based
upon
the
census
blocks
that
are
delineated
by
the
federal
government,
and
so
those
blocks
can
be
very,
very
small.
C
They
can
be
very
large
and
it's
best
to
kind
of
think
of
them
as
individual
puzzle
pieces,
and
so
when
we're
looking
at
redrawing
these
maps,
what
you're
really
doing
is
taking
these
puzzle
pieces
and
trying
to
form
them
in
a
way
that
again
reflects
who
the
community
is,
but
also
makes
the
pieces
fit
in
the
terms
of
the
number
of
voters
in
each
district.
The
demographic
information
that's
within
each
district.
C
Those
are
all
considerations
that
we
have
to
look
at
and
and
they're
just
not
uniform
in
terms
of
the
shape.
You
could
have
one
district
that
has
five
full-time
residents
in
it
and
you
can
have
another
that
has
700
and
they
could
be
right
next
to
each
other,
and
so
it
makes
for
an
interesting
examination,
but
by
working
with
the
public
and
by
working
with
council
we'll
be
able
to
explore
what
all
those
different
alternatives
are
to
hopefully
come
up
with
a
product
that
again
is
acceptable
to
everybody
within
the
community.
C
If
you
do
get
put
into
a
different
district
or
a
different
ward,
the
beaufort
county
board
of
elections
will
update
your
voter
registration
card
and
they'll.
Send
you
a
new
card
that
lists
the
information,
but
you
will
not
need
to
re-register
to
vote.
You
will
not
need
to
take
any
other
action.
You'll
just
get
notified
if
there
happens
to
be
any
changes
to
where
your
voting
precinct
is
or
what
districts
you
may
be.
Voting
for
and.
C
So
for
the
town
of
hilton
head,
our
next
general
election
is
scheduled
for
november
of
2022,
and
so
we
want
to
have
all
these
changes
finalized
and
in
place
and
clearly
communicated
to
the
public
well
in
advance
of
the
election.
And
so
we've
set
a
goal
of
trying
to
work
pretty
diligently
to
have
this
process
wrapped
up
no
later
than
maybe
end
of
february,
beginning
of
march
time
frame.
C
B
B
C
B
I
thank
you
very
much
for
all
the
work
you
do
not
only
this,
but
for
the
town,
josh
gruber
number
one
fan
well,
thank
you
for
tuning
in
to
today's
initial
program,
along
the
way
in
the
future,
we'll
be
talking
about
the
three
parks
that
we're
doing
cross
island
chaplain
park
in
the
mid
island
park.
We'll
also
be
bringing
you
up
to
date
on
the
corridor.
The
bridge
in
the
corridor,
we'll
also
be
talking
about
the
major
initiatives
of
towns
coming
forward
with
this
year
along
the
way,
thank
you
and
have
a
great
day.
