From YouTube: Bethel Park School District Live School Board Committee Meeting: August 2, 2022 (7 PM)
Description
August 2, 2022
A
Thank
you.
I
need
a
motion
to
adopt
the
agenda
for
business
items
so
move
second
move
by
mrs
galzo
seconded
by
mr
greisbeck.
B
Yeah,
thank
you
good
evening.
Everyone
I'll
start
with
welcome
to
the
grown-ups
table.
Mr
quinn.
Who's
he's
really
like
48
hours
on
the
job,
and
we
have
an
over
under
bet
on
how
long
it'll
take
until
he
gets
the
first
complaint
about
the
weeds
and
the
grass
anthony's
already
lost.
B
B
B
The
board
will
be
approving
some
personnel
moves
tonight,
a
lot
of
new
hires
and
we're.
I
think,
we're
really
fortunate
right
now
in
bethel
to
draw
really
high
caliber
teaching
force
of
candidates.
We
thoroughly
enjoyed
the
experience
this
summer
meeting
these
candidates
and
seeing
what
what
good
opportunities
and
things
they
were
bringing
to
bethel
park.
B
I
think
the
board
will
be
pleased,
but
there's
also
retirement
on
tonight's
agenda
to
approve
mr
spellers.
Dr
spolaris
is
announced
his
intention
to
finish
one
more
year
of
service
to
bethel
and
retire
in
june.
He
started
in
bethel
park
in
1999.
B
B
At
the
board's
table
is
one
more
installment
in
the
monthly
update
that
you've
asked
for
on
strategic
planning
goals.
I've
focused
each
month
on
each
of
the
six
different
major
categories
of
goals
that
we
have
established.
We've
been
through
discussion
on
curriculum
and
instruction
and
talked
about
student
experience,
diversity,
equity
inclusion.
B
Tonight
we're
going
to
look
at
facilities
and
infrastructure.
The
goal
was
to
develop
a
facility's
master
plan
that
would
lay
out
over
10
years
time
the
vision
for
all
of
the
infrastructure
throughout
the
district.
Of
course,
the
primary
piece
of
that
was
renovations
and
alterations
to
project
to
the
major
to
the
buildings.
B
B
Currently
on
on
time
now
to
finish
that
project
in
december
of
2023,
we
expect
more
dirt
to
start
moving
with
the
bus
garage,
paving
and
infrastructure
project
there,
too,
and
at
our
monthly
infrastructure
and
facilities
meetings
that
you've
been
hosting
here
for
the
last
six
months,
we'll
have
another
one.
Next
tuesday
night,
in
which
you'll
get
some
more
updates
and
specifics
on
the
ims
project,
the
pace
of
work,
what's
done,
what's
still
to
be
done
in
phase
one.
What's
looking,
where
are
we
with
the
phase
two
project,
designs
and
costs?
B
B
This
is
just
year,
one
of
a
ten
year,
this
master
plan,
and
so
your
your
update
tonight
has
a
lot
of
red
ink
because
things
aren't
moving
fast
enough,
really
because
hey,
let's
agree,
it's
a
10-year
plan
and
we're,
at
the
beginning,
end
of
a
long
journey
to
modernize
to
invest
significantly
in
our
facilities,
so
that
there'll
be
another
50
years
of
of
productive
life.
Out
of
them.
B
There
is.
There
was
a
lot
of
talk
this
week,
particularly
on
social
media,
about
the
district
pursuing
land
for
the
elementary
project
just
wanted
to
make
sure
the
board
was
up
to
date
on
that
that
we
have
not
filed
eminent
domain
claim
at
this
point,
because
the
family
is
interested
in
selling
the
property
outright.
So
that's
where
our
focus
has
been
in
the
last
two
weeks,
working
on
that
moving
that
forward.
B
If
that
were
to
successfully
occur,
we
would
then
foresee
that
property
being
an
access
road.
There
isn't
any
intention
on
the
district's
part
to
put
a
building
on
that
property.
That
would
seem
to
be
a
concern
for
some
of
the
neighbors
there
on
king
school
that
it's
that's,
not
the
intention
of
the
district.
We
want
to
be
able
to
have
access
to
them.
E
B
Doesn't
know
his
mic's
on,
so
that's
that's
the
update
on
this
part
of
the
strategic
plan.
Of
course,
the
the
entirety
of
the
plan
is
on
our
website
the
facilities
master
plan.
I
talked
about
that
10-year
plan
is
also
on
our
website
and
this
particular
update
and
all.
C
A
A
Thank
you
thank
you
and,
and
I
think
in
that
you
know
we
are
trying
to
be
as
complete
and
transparent
as
as
possible.
We
also
have
created
a
website
that
you
can
find
off
of
our
facilities
page
on
our
website.
A
A
A
These
are
all
core
steps:
core
ingredients
to
developing
the
future
of
our
academic
performance
that
we've
laid
out
in
our
strategic
plan
and
and
that's
what
drives
us
first
and
foremost,
is
the
you
know
the
quality
of
education
that
we
can
deliver
to
students
across
the
entire
district.
So
but
I
encourage
you
to
check
out
the
the
microsite
the
website
that
we've
created
that
covers
all
of
the
developments
around
our
facilities
plan
and
that
can
be
found.
I
think,
there's
a
button
on
the
facilities
page
of
our
website.
Yeah.
B
A
None
for
this
meeting.
Okay,
thank
you.
Moving
into
the
voting
section
of
the
meeting,
mr
scalzo,
can
you
take
care
of
the
curriculum
committee?
Yes,.
G
Under
curriculum
committee,
we
have
one
item
number
one
2022
2023
student
handbooks.
I
would
like
to
move
that
item.
H
A
Just
a
couple
comments
on
this
before
we
vote,
I
think,
mrs
janicek,
you
had
a
question
this
week
we
saw
there
were
some
people
that
were
had
some
confusion
or
we
didn't
do
our
job.
I
guess
of
having
the
right.
H
Right
it
was
the
ims
handbook
last
year:
didn't
have
the
updated
dress
code
policy
in
it.
H
A
H
I
A
See
he's
not
here
for
personnel
committee,
is
it
janet
said?
Can
you
take
person
the
five
items
under
the
personnel
committee.
H
G
J
G
A
Motions
made
by
mr
grisbeck
and
second
I've
had
mr
scalzo.
I
just
had
one
question
on
here,
so
it
appears
like
the
amendment
to
the
school
physical
agreement.
It
just
converted
us
from
a
definite
term
to
a
automatic
renewal
where
we
just
have
to
provide
a
you
know,
60-day
notice
that
the
agreement's
canceling
is
that
the
only
change
yes
yeah,
okay,.
G
F
Okay,
my
question
on
number
two
is:
does
this
also
start
with
the
bus
tracking
situation
where
parents
can
check
where
the
buses
are
on
their
problems?.
B
What's
that
software,
dr
jensani,
it's
just
confirming
that
we'll
have
that
ready
to
go
for
the
start
of
the
year.
I
Yes,
everything's
slated
to
be
on
time,
so
we're
we're
just
sending
a
final.
These
bus
runs
actually
to
to
busware,
so
we
can
get
things
settled
in.
So
that's
where
we
are
right
now.
F
J
G
A
A
Okay,
let's
move
into
the
committee
reports,
then,
mr
scalzo,
can
you
walk
us
through
the
three
items
on
the
curriculum
committee.
G
K
So
the
pre-k
counts
program
at
bethel
park.
We
run
a
17
class
student
classroom
and
we
partner
we're
the
lead
agency
and
we
partner
with
the
allegheny
intermediate
unit,
so
they
provide
the
actual
instructional
services
for
us
and
rent
a
space
out
of
william
penn.
So
the
classroom
is
held
within
our
district
and
this
year
the
budget
increased
the
monies
and
funding
that
went
towards
head
start
and
pre-k
classroom
opportunities
for
students
in
pennsylvania,
and
so
all
pre-k
counts
classrooms.
Instead
of
having
eighty
five
hundred
dollars
per
student,
which
is
what
the
grant
is
for.
K
That's
the
amount
they
increase
that
to
ten
thousand
dollars
per
student,
and
so
we
now
receive
a
hundred
and
seventy
thousand
dollars
our
administrative
costs.
As
the
lead
agency
are
very
minimal.
K
They
are
normally
around
three
thousand
dollars,
which
is
a
little
bit
of
money
that
pays
for
our
secretary
stacy
to
do
some
of
the
administrative
work
that
goes
with
the
grant
of
entering
some
of
the
fiscal
items
and
some
of
the
reporting
and
then
all
of
the
rest
of
the
money
goes
to
the
aiu.
With
the
exception,
if
there
is
a
mandatory
conference
in
the
poconos
that
they're
saying
that
we
will
travel
to
this
year,
but
due
to
covet,
it
has
been
canceled.
K
So
we
do
set
aside
some
of
that
funding
because
it's
there
for
that.
But
everything
else
goes
to
the
aiu
to
offer
direct
services.
So
all
of
the
increase
in
this
funding
has
been
passed
through
to
the
aiu
to
offer
instructional
services
for
those
17
students
who
will
have
full
day
180
pre-k
classroom
experiences
at
william
penn.
A
G
Can
you
also
explain
title
1a
and
title
2
are
title
2a,
non-public
school
services,
sure.
K
If
that
student
would
go
to
a
school
that
we
use
title
1
funding
at
which
those
three
schools
are
memorial,
lincoln
and
franklin,
then
that
student
generates
a
equitable
share
of
that
federal
money
that
goes
to
that
non-public
school
to
offer
any
student
from
bethel
park.
That
shows
a
risk
of
not
being
proficient
at
the
standards,
and
so
we
next
month,
you'll
see
later
I'm
sorry
later
this
month,
you'll
see
later
on
in
the
agenda,
we
put
out
a
request
for
proposals
of
companies.
To
I'm
sorry,
that's
the
one
we're
talking
about
right
now.
K
Title
two
goes
to
any
non-public
that
is
in
our
geographical
border,
so
that
is
ave
maria
bethel
park
hillcrest
and
the
saint
thomas
morris
school,
and
so
that
funding
equitable
share
is
a
per
pupil
amount.
Bethel
park
has
roughly
3
800
students
k
to
12.
and
those
three
buildings
I
believe
hillcrest
is
at
153.
K
Ave
maria
is
around
304
and
st
thomas
school
is,
I
think,
five
or
seven,
and
so
you
total
all
of
that
up
and
each
we
get
roughly
eighty
thousand
dollars
it's
divided
by
the
grand
total
of
four
thousand
something
and
each
student
is
worth
a
proportion
and
that
amount
of
funding
based
on
the
number
of
total
enrolled
students
goes
to
those
schools
and
that
title
to
money
is
spent
for
professional,
develop
development
for
those
teachers.
It
is
not
allowed
to
go
to
anything
that
is
mandated.
G
Dr
zeb
jan
santi
will
attend
the
2022
school
safety
summit
at
the
sheraton,
harrisburg
hershey
hotel
in
harrisburg
pa
on
november
1st
2022
and
november
2nd
2022
as
a
total
cost
of
dollars
and
cents,
and
sharon
jan
is
sick
to
attend
the
p-a-s-a-p-s-b-a
school
leadership
conference
at
the
kalahari
resorts
in
the
poconos
manor
pa
on
october
30th
2022
through
november
1st
2022,
at
a
total
cost
of
one
thousand
one
hundred
fourteen
dollars
and
sixty
four
cents.
If
anybody
else
has
any
questions,
please.
C
J
Items
sure
on
the
finance
committee
agenda
tonight
we
have
four
items:
number
one
july,
2022
and
august
2022
salaries
and
bills.
Number
two
june
2022
financial
report
number
three
july:
2022
financial
report
number
four
approval
of
cross
district
agreement
for
special
education.
Dr
mench,
could
you
explain
number
four
for
us.
Please.
J
You
very
much
does
anyone
have
any
questions
on
any
of
the
other
items
all
right,
I
moved
those
four
items
to
the
consent
agenda
very.
A
Good
the
policy
committee
ms
turner,
had
to
drop.
I
don't
know
if
anybody
else
is
knows
these
policies
in
depth,
but
we
have
two
of
them
that
we'll
be
voting
on
because
of
the
third
and
final
reading
for
the
assessment
system,
so
that
just.
B
To
clarify
one
more
time
that
policy
amends
an
existing
policy
to
support
the
math
intervention
program
at
the
middle
school.
The
board
will
recall
from
our
education
committee
meeting
back
in
the
spring
that
we
needed
to
have
that
in
policy
that
students
who
aren't
proficient
have
to
participate
in
the
remediation
or
intervention
program.
So
that's
the
amendment.
Sort
of
a
change
to
the
existing
policy
and
128
is
a
new
policy
that
would
set
up
expectations
and
procedures
that
have
to
be
followed
for
schools
to
have
guest
speakers
from
outside
the
school
into
the
building.
B
Us
this
week
right
correct,
that's
just
just
come
through
our
review.
Okay
had
mr
cromey
look
that
over
this
was
recommended
by
psba
relative
to
staff,
use
of
social
media
expectations
and
and
regulations
protecting
the
district.
Okay.
A
Okay,
very
good,
any
comments
on
those.
A
Under
other,
so
next
meeting
will
be
approving
the
evaluation
of
both
superintendent
and
assistant
superintendent.
Those
are
the
first
two
items
and
maybe
dr
walsh,
you
can.
C
B
Yes,
so
the
the
boards
actually
approved
this
twice
previously.
The
department
of
education
is
authorizing
schools
to
allow
remote
students
to
count
as
seat
time.
So
if
the
district
for
some
emergency
circumstances
had
to
go
remote,
this
this
template
submitted
to
pde
would
authorize
the
district
to
use
that
day
as
count
as
a
school
day.
This
is
different
than
a
severe
weather
type.
What
we
call
those
feed
days,
the
flexible
instruction
days,
where
the
flexible
instruction
day
students
would
have
the
choice
of
coming
or
staying
home.
B
A
A
G
I
have
a
comment.
I
would
like
to
recognize
one
of
our
employees,
our
director
of
technology,
brett
slesak,
for
really
helping
us
with
really
what
helping
us
with
communication.
We've
had
our
challenges
here
in
bethel
park
with
communication
and
you've
taken
on
a
lot
of
challenges
here.
So
I
really
want
to
appreciate
what
you
did
last
week
with
really
helping
with
our
email
system.
G
It
is
incredibly
hard
for
a
parent
to
email,
a
teacher,
just
a
simple
email,
where
there's
three
to
four
or
five
pages
that
you're
clicking
through
and
then
eventually
you
have
to
wait
for
a
link
to
get
confirmation
and
then
eventually,
then
you
can
start
this
email
process.
Now
you
know
he
he
sent
a
test
run.
I
don't
know
if
it's
live
yet
or
what?
But
it's
one
click.
It's
one
click!
It's
the
directory,
yeah
the
directory
is
fantastic.
