Mayor Wu joins with city officials and Boston's Dominican community to raise the Dominican flag over City Hall Plaza. This is the first flag raising event since the Mayor signed an ordinance to codify policy regarding the display of flags on City Hall Plaza.

It's my honor to be here on city hall, plaza for the first flag, raising in a long time.

More importantly, it's the flag raising for the country that my parents came from the dominican republic. When I see that flag, I see community, I see family. I see sacrifices that you guys left when you left your country, whereas.

The dominican community is a pillar of the city of boston, contributes to its growth and development through contributions to business, politics and education, and whereas the migration of dominican families to boston dates back to the 1950s, and there are over 100 000 residents of dominican descent that reside in boston, making the the largest foreign-born population in the city of boston and whereas the commemoration of the 159th anniversary of the restoration of independence of the dominican republic by the city of boston by raising the flag, serves to recognize the community's contribution to boston.

Now we hereby do proclaim august 16th 2022 to be dominican republic heritage day in the city of boston.
