A
If
everyone
can
take
their
seat,
get
settled
in
outstanding,
thank
you
all
for
being
with

and

and
activists
both
here
and
throughout
the
nation.
I
am
Travon
Williams
Senior,
vice
president
of
marketing
and
Communications
here
with
the
NAACP
and
on
behalf
of
the
millions
of
members,
supporters
and
activists
that
make
up
this
powerful
Network
that
we
call
the
NAACP
Universe.
A
We
are
so
honored
and
thrilled
to
be
able
to
join
for
this
introductory
press
conference
for
the
114th
NAACP
National
Convention
right
here
in
Boston
Massachusetts
long
time
coming
long
time
coming,
but
we
made
it
momentarily
we'll
have
remarks
from
our
national
state
and
local
NAACP
leadership,
but
before
they
come,
we
know
that
moments
like
this
are
birthed
not
only
through
Timeless
efforts
of
leaders
throughout
the
nacp,
but
also
through
inspiration,
support
and
commitment
from
outstanding
allies
and
partners.
A

who
couldn't
be
here,
but
since
his
love
and
Mr

Elisa
as
well
as
conference

Charlotte,
Nelson,
Darnell,
Williams
and
I

B
I

We
thank
them
so
much
for
their

I
see

Russell
Holmes
here,
who's
been
a
stalwart
and
a
champion
I'm
going
to
scan
and
give
me
a
wave
if
I
don't
see,
I
see
City

large

City
councilor,
Kendra
Lara
did
counselor
friend.
We
all
came
from
the
same
event
just
about
10
minutes
ago,
so
I
assume
councilor,
Tanya,
Fernandez
Anderson
is
on
her
way
from
that
other
event.
B
Who
is
the
district
councilor
for
this
District

well?
And
thank

so
much
who
did
I
miss
in
elected

B
I
also
want
to
thank
many
members
of
our
cabinet,
who
are
here
today
working
hard
on
behalf
of
the
city
of
Boston.
Every
day,
our
senior
advisor
and
racial
Justice

Economic
Opportunity

who
has
also
served
as
first
vice

the
first

here
in
Boston.
B
Director

many
many
folks
from
our

thank
you
to
speaker,
Ron
Mariano
and
the
entire
State

and
state.
Thank
you
to

Gibbons
of
the
Massachusetts
Convention
Center
Authority,
and
all
the
community
members
joining
us
from
across
our
city
right
here
in
Nubian,
Square,
the
heart
of
Boston.
B
Greater
representation
on
the
city
council,
with
my
incredible
colleagues,
greater
representation
at
the
state
level,
thanks
to
the
Grassroots,
organizing
and
Leadership
of
so
many,
and
even
the
very
neighborhood,
where
most
of
the
convention
will
be
centered.
The
seaport
thanks
to
the
work
and
the
diligence
and
the
focus
of
this
city
and
many
of
the
people
in
this
room.
B
Boston
is
not
only
the
Cradle
of
democracy
but
the
birthplace
of
the
Abolitionist
Movement,
without
which
our
democracy
would
have
remained
inequitable
and
incomplete
forever.
Just
down
the
block
from
this
building,
which
is
named
in
honor
of
Boston's.
First
black
city
council
president
Bruce
bowling
stands
the
historic
12th,
Baptist,
Church,
hello,
Reverend,
Willie,
Patrick,.
B
The
very
institution
where
the
Reverend
Dr
Martin,
Luther,
King,
Jr,
deepened
his
faith,
found
his
calling
and
found
his
love
and
we're
proud
to
have
that
forever.
Memorialized,
with
the
Embrace
on
Boston
Common,
we
are
the
city
of
melnia
Cass
and
The
Honorable
Mel
King
of
Byron
rushing
Dr,
Clarence,
Jeep
Jones
and
Miss
Gene
McGuire,
the
54th
Regiment,
the
Phillips
School,
the
African
Meeting
House.
B
A
Outstanding,
thank
you
so
much
mayor
Wu.
For
those
warm
remarks.
It
was
so
thrilled
for
the
opportunity
to
be
with
you
all.
Next,
you
will
hear
from
our
nscp
national
leadership.
First,
you
will
hear
from
chairman
Leon
wrestle
he's
the
chairman
of
the
national
board
of
directors
for
the
NAACP
followed
by
him
will
be
president
Derek
Johnson
he's
the
president
and
CEO
of
the
n
aacp
and
then
following
him
will
be
board
member
Michael,
Curry
who's,
the
NAACP
New
England
area
conference
administrator
and
member
of
the
nacp
board
of
directors.
C
C
We
are
happy
because
the
last
time
we
were
in
this
building
announcing
that
we
would
be
here
three
years
ago.
None
of
us
could
have
imagined
mayor
Wu
all
of
the
things
that
would
happen
in
the
intervening
period
And.
So
it's
my
pleasure,
it's
my
pleasure
to
say
very
loudly
and
very
proudly
that
the
114th
annual
Convention
of
the
National
Association
for
the
advancement
of
colored
people
will
take
place
in
Boston
Massachusetts.
C
C
We
are
the
nation's
oldest
and
largest,
and
boldest
and
probably
proudest
civil
rights
organization.
We
are
that
Grassroots
organization
that
attempts
to
impact
public
policy
across
this
country,
and
so
we're
we're
so
happy
so
happy
that
we'll
be
here
now
I
come
from
Florida
I
live
in
Florida
and
so
I
need
you
to
understand.
C
C
Understanding
that
when
we
talk
about
a
woman's
right
to
choose,
what
we're
really
talking
about
is
a
woman's
right
to
govern
her
own
body
and
I.
Think
about
the
fact
that,
as
we
look
across
the
country-
and
we
see
an
attempt
to
roll
back
our
history,
you
did
a
Litany
of
the
history
of
Black
Folk
in
Boston
and
in
Massachusetts,
but
there
is
an
unrelenting
attack
on
telling
the
real
history
of
Black
Folk
in
America,
because
some
folks
say,
oh,
you
don't
need
to
be
awake
to
that.
C
You
know
my
States
they
say
is
where
woke
goes
to
die.
Well,
when
we
come
to
Boston
in
July,
we
gonna
wake
this
place
up,
we're
gonna
wake
this
place
up.
We
we're
going
to
face
the
fact
that
we
need
to
continue
the
fight
for
Quality
education
and
equity
in
education,
we're
going
to
raise
the
issues
of
gun
violence
in
the
in
America
and
how
Police
use
their
Authority
in
America.
We're
going
to
look
at
the
issues
that
are
confronted
by
communities
across
this
country.
We
understand
that
climate
Justice
is
not
just
a
phrase.
C
C
Moniker
that
people
want
to
give
us
that
we
are
the
most
advanced
nation
in
the
world
when
we
look
at
ourselves
and
realize
that
in
education
and
in
health
care
and
in
so
many
other
areas,
we
are
behind
so
many
countries
that
we
would
consider
developing
nations,
we
have
work
to
do.
The
114th
annual
Convention
of
the
NAACP
will
lift
up
the
work
that
we
do.
C
The
work
that
our
Grassroots
folks
do
the
work
that
we
all
have
to
challenge
ourselves
to
do,
because,
in
order
to
thrive
together,
we
have
to
understand
that
we
have
to
work
together.
We
have
to
plan
together.
We
have
to
create
public
policy
together,
we
have
to
carry
out
public
policy
together,
because
that's
the
only
way
that
we
will
Thrive
together,
see
you
July
26th
in
Boston.
D
Good
morning,
I
want
to
start
by
thanking
board
member
Michael
Curry
for
the
vision
to
bring
the
convention.
Here.
President
Tanisha
Sullivan
for
seeing
it
through
the
implementation
to
representative
Holmes
for
pinning
the
concept
that
the
state
of
Massachusetts
will
support
this
convention
into
the
speaker
for
making
sure
it
get
passed.
So
thank
you
all
for
inviting
us
teaching
mayor,
Wu,
you're
correct.
D
Because
for
114
years
it
has
been
our
job
to
make
democracy
work
for
all
you
think
about
the
advancements
in
this
country.
Over
that
time,
our
fight
has
not
been
an
exclusionary
fight
for
our
community.
Only
our
fight
has
been
a
fight
to
ensure
that
the
promises
that
is
enshrined
is
the
Constitution
is
provided
to
every
citizens.
D
Even
if
you
don't
have
citizenship
that
you're
treated
with
human
dignity,
voting
rights
are
being
attacked.
The
lack
of
legislation
assured
police
and
gun
reforms
put
America's
at
harm
across
the
country.
It
is
about
public
policy,
we're
an
advocacy
organization,
not
a
service
provider,
because
we
recognize
that
with
people
are
hungry,
there
should
be
soup
kitchens.
However,
there
should
be
legislation
and
public
policy
to
prevent
hunger.
D
That's
really
important
for
us
to
pay
attention
to
because
of
an
apartheid.
America
is
a
shrinking
America.
We
can
no
longer
Proclaim
to
be
the
leading
democracy
on
the
globe
if,
in
fact,
we
restrict
the
opportunities
of
so
many
deserving
individuals
to
add
to
the
quality
of
life
for
all
of
us,
I
recognized
a
long
time
ago,
but
I'm
funny.
Looking
and
no
matter
what
I
do.
I
can't
change
the
way.
D
D
We
cannot
afford
that,
whether
it's
the
rights
of
women,
whether
it's
the
rights
of
immigrants,
whether
it's
the
rights
of
women,
of
of
the
LGBT
community,
whether
it's
the
right
of
young
people
to
go
to
school
and
be
able
to
read
the
rich
history
that
we've
all
contributed
to.
We
must
stand
together.
D
Our
victories
from
the
1964
Voting
Rights
Act,
or
the
1965
Civil
Rights
Act
of
1964
Civil
Rights
Act
1965
Voting
Rights
Act
are
victories
that
have
stood
the
test
of
times
and
we
must
protect
them
at
all
costs.
D
D
D
D
D
D
D
D
The
fight
for
clean
and
accessible
water
in
Flint
Michigan
is
directly
related
to
public
policies
in
Jackson
Mississippi
or
in
Baltimore
Maryland
or
in
Philadelphia,
or
even
here
in
Boston,
that
the
infrastructure
that
we
rely
on
for
clean
water,
that
the
public
policy
that
will
determine
whether
or
not
we
have
clean
air
to
breathe
and
the
food
that
we
eat
that
that
need
that
should
be
regulated
is
all
about.
The
work
of
the
NAACP
discrimination
is
is
both
a
solution
for
Bad
actors.
D
D
The
work
to
respond
to
gun
virus
takes
takes
tax
issues
in
Uvalde,
Texas
and
Saint
Bernardino
California
or
any
other
place
where
we've
had
over
300
incidents
of
gun
violence.
When
we
share
our
knowledge
from
our
delegates
from
across
the
country
to
talk
about
those
tactics,
that's
why
we
meet
because
NAACP
in
47
States
20
to
200
units.
We
are
the
eyes
and
ears
on
the
ground,
not
only
for
the
African-American
Community,
but
our
members
writ
large.
D
We
work
to
secure
a
future
where
everyone
can
exercise
their
civil
and
human
rights
in
every
aspect
of
life,
Education,
Health,
criminal
justice
and
the
environment
without
discrimination.
That's
why
this
convention
is
a
Sacred
Space
for
us.
That's
why
we
reflect
on
the
root
of
this
movement
to
re-energize
today's
fights.
We
are
proud
to
reflect
on
our
deeply
rooted
ties
to
this
city,
where
the
first
branch
of
this
Association
was
created
our
goal.
Our
mission
is
to
thrive
together
and
to
ensure
that
democracy
work
in
a
way
in
which
every
citizens
can
participate.
D
E
E
E
Well,
the
rate
in
Nashville
was
350,
and
that
was
what
they
were
telling
us
in
2018
and
I'm
trying
to
get
the
city
to
understand
our
delegates.
Don't
pay
that
our
delegates
do
not
come
to
a
convention
on
an
expense
account
their
Grassroots.
They
pay
out
their
pocket
and
we
have
to
do
our
absolute
best
to
minimize
their
costs.
So
I
get
a
call
from
Michael
Curry,
encouraging
me
to
come
to
Boston
I
said
Michael
I'm
in
Tennessee
fighting
them.
You
know
how
expensive
Boston
is.
E
I'm
gonna,
be
honest
with
you,
I
wasn't
feeling
then
I
get
a
call
from
Mel
wash
I
said:
Mr
Mayor,
you
know
you
got
an
expensive,
a
very
beautiful
but
expensive
city,
so
the
mayor
says
we're
going
to
create
a
fund
so
that
nobody
loses
the
deadliest,
won't
get
charged
over
200
and
the
hotels
won't
lose
by
giving
them
that
rate,
and
so
each
year
I
get
a
new
best
friend
in
that
community.
E
E
The
NAACP
is
a
network
of
activists
and
Community
leaders
across
the
country
who
are
building
black
political
and
social
power
through
advocacy
litigation
and
Civic
engagement.
Ideas
born
from
the
convention
are
translated
into
impactful
action
throughout
the
year
during
each
convention.
Delegates
debate
and
vote
on
resolutions
which
govern
how
the
association
will
respond
to
issues
including
criminal
justice,
environmental
justice,
education
and
gun
violence.
E
E
F
Good
morning
as
I
was
thinking
about
today,
I
was
trying
to
figure
out
where
to
start
to
bring
greetings
and
I.
Think
about
a
few
things
in
this
moment.
I
think
about
the
African
proverb.
If
you
know
the
beginning
well,
the
end
won't
trouble.
You
so
I
think
about
the
many
folks
in
the
NAACP
that
have
stood
in
the
position
of
president
or
served
on
the
executive
committee
or
been
a
member
of
this
organization
and
served
in
this
city.
F
Chairman
Turner
may
not
know
this,
but
this
conversation
about
the
convention
coming
here
started
way
before
that
called
to
Chairman
Turner
Michael
Munn
who's.
Here
knows
that
that
call
goes
back
many
years
ago
when
Leonard
Ackles
was
president
and
I
made
a
call
to
Anna
Aponte,
the
former
leader
of
our
convention,
planning
and
said:
hey.
F
We
need
the
convention
to
come
back
to
Boston
and
me
and
Anna
got
on
a
phone
call
and
she
was
communicating
with
Michael
Munn
and
we
couldn't
solve
for
the
pricing
of
the
hotels
because,
as
chairman
Turner
and
others
have
said,
it's
difficult
to
come
to
a
city.
If
people
can't
afford
to
come
so
I
want
to
just
pay
more
take
a
moment
to
just
pay.
Respect
to
the
people
that
made
this
moment
possible.
F
F
F
If
people
remember,
the
TV
show
Quantum
League,
so
I
really
want
you
to
be
standing
on
a
street
corner
in
Boston
right
now
in
Roxbury
in
1901.,
and
pick
up
a
copy
of
Boston
Guardian
William
Monroe
Trotter's
paper,
and
you
would
see
inscribed
on
the
front
page
of
that
paper
for
every
right
with
all
thy.
Might
that's
what
we're
talking
about
then
in
the
course
of
this
City's
history
from
1630,
when
those
slaves
arrived
in
Boston
by
root
of
Bahamas
to
1641,
when
slavery
was
legalized
in
Boston
to
the
series
of
cases.
F
But
that
wasn't
my
main
reason
because
I
think
when
conventions
come
to
cities
and
states,
they
require
us
to
dig
in
on
history,
because
we
need
to
now
revisit
that
history
to
give
us
momentum.
For
all
these
conversations,
we're
having
about
reparations
about
criminal
justice
about
housing
and
education,
you
get
a
sense
of
Pride
and,
as
as
my
good
friend,
Rosalind
Brock,
the
former
chair,
said,
courage
will
not
skip
this
generation.
F
So
I
I
say
this
to
you
as
I
close
on
behalf
of
the
New
England
area
NAACP,
which
is
branches
in
Maine,
New,
Hampshire,
Vermont,
Massachusetts
and
Rhode
Island.
We're
excited
to
have
those
delegates
come
and
have
Boston
show
up.
Boston
show
up
now.
People
have
asked
me
constantly.
Well,
you
know
conventions.
F
There
should
be
no
convention
in
Boston
and
a
Mercedes
to
Cliff
who
I
was
just
talking
to
when
I
walked
in
when
I
was
President.
Naacp
I
was
adamant
that
I
got
Street
cast
involved
in
NAACP,
so
I
went
to
slades
there's.
Some
people
who
now
from
here
won't
appreciate
that
recruitment
as
slaves
with
Siobhan
Siobhan,
a
national
board
member.
She
gave
a
speech
in
the
middle
of
slave
slaves
with
RSO
in
the
room
and
they
ran
up.
Oh,
we
want
to
get
your
number
Siobhan.
We
want
to
work
with
the
NAACP.
F
That's
what
we're
talking
about
that?
Don't
let
there
be
one
aspect
of
the
city
that
does
not
get
an
invitation
to
come
to
Seaport
into
that
Convention
Center,
so
I'm
gonna,
say
one
is
I'm
honored
and
blessed
to
serve
on
the
national
board,
and
the
chairman
allows
me
to
serve
as
chair
of
the
advocacy
and
policy
committee.
We
do
some
tremendous
work.
I'll
end
it
on
this
note,
and
folks
have
heard
me
say
this-
that
I
always
say
I'm
glad
so
many
people
awoke
and
others
are
waking
up.
F
Mr
chairman,
but
some
of
us
are
insomniacs
and
the
reality
is
I,
get
to
sit
around
a
table
quarterly,
with
a
table
of
insomniacs
I,
get
to
work
with
a
national
staff
that
live
and
breathe
civil
rights
every
day
way
before
George
Floyd
way
before
covid-19.
A
As
we
made
mention
to
throughout
this
morning,
in
order
for
our
families,
communities
and
this
nation
to
reflect
the
sort
of
advancement
in
progress
that
so
richly
deserved,
it
needs
we
need
to
be
willing
to
go
after
those
dreams
collectively
and
drive
together
and
in
Boston.
We
have
found
true
leaders
and
allies
to
help
us
in
realizing
that
dream
inviting
next
to
the
podium
in
this
order
will
have
meet.
A
Boston
CEO
Martha
Sheridan,
followed
by
her,
will
be
Massachusetts
convention
Authority
executive
director,
David
Gibbons
NAACP
Boston,
Branch
President,
the
PowerHouse
that
is
Tanisha
Sullivan,
Massachusetts
house
Speaker,
assuming
Ronald
Mariano
and
Mass
Mutual,
executive,
Dominic,
blue
and
rounding
them
out
will
be
our
national
director
of
Youth
in
college.
Wisdom.
Call
in
that
order.
G
Well
well:
well,
aren't
those
some
tough
acts
to
follow
good
afternoon.
Good
morning
almost
afternoon,
I'm
Martha
Sheridan
I'm,
the
CEO
of
meet
Boston,
the
city's
convention
and
visitors,
bureau
and
I'll
start
by
saying
that
being
the
CEO
of
a
CVB,
that's
going
to
host
this
Monumental
convention
is
a
privilege
of
a
lifetime.
G
Many
of
my
counterparts
would
wish
to
host
this
group
in
their
city
and
I'm,
just
so
thrilled
that
Boston
is
going
to
be
your
host
for
the
next
convention
coming
next
month,
so
we're
thrilled
to
host
the
114th
National
Convention
as
the
first
chartered
NAACP
Branch.
We
Embrace
this
moment
and
this
opportunity
to
highlight
the
Boston
of
2023.
As
the
mayor
mentioned,
an
exciting
City
featuring
23,
diverse
neighborhoods,
each
teaming
with
immersive
cultural
experiences
like
the
one
we're
in
today
the
National
Convention
drives
National
conversations.
G
Attendees
include
innovators
and
thought
leaders
whose
ideas
find
a
forum
here
to
be
socialized,
more
broadly
and
most
importantly,
crystallized
into
impactful
action
in
Boston.
We
are
proud
of
our
tradition
of
innovation
as
well.
We
boast
four
centuries
of
pioneering
spirit
for
centuries
of
Rich,
immigrant
history
and
four
centuries
of
leading
Progressive
conversations.
G
We
know
we
have
work
to
do.
We
confront
our
own
history
as
we
strive
every
day
to
build
equity
and
access
across
the
city.
So
as
some
areas
of
this
nation,
as
has
been
noted,
work
to
curtail
rights
and
restrict
access
here
in
Boston
Massachusetts,
we
celebrate
those
stories
and
seek
to
amplify
them.
However,
we
can.
G
As
a
destination
marketing
organization,
we've
worked
diligently
to
bring
the
promise
of
the
visitor
economy
to
all
areas
of
Boston,
elevating
neighborhood
stories
and
Community
Voices
to
create
content,
Inspire
visitation
and
uplift
small
businesses
as
an
essential
part
of
the
travel
experience,
our
award-winning
Boston
Neighborhood
videos
and
all-inclusive
Boston
campaign,
both
underscore
this
focus
and
how
we
have
pursued
it
intentionally
and,
most
importantly,
authentically
working
with
Michael
and
Tanisha
and
all
of
our
city
partners
and
the
MCCA.
This
has
been
a
collective
effort
to
thrive
together.
G
I
want
to
note
and
thank
members
of
the
meet
Boston
team
who,
alongside
all
of
the
leaders
that
spoke
today,
have
been
working
diligently
for
the
past
four
years
to
make
this
convention
a
success,
and-
and
we
are
proud
to
support
this
convention
on
every
level
financially,
logistically
and
socially,
so
we're
excited
to
be
working
alongside
all
of
you
for
that
I
think.
Most
importantly,
this
I've
been
in
this
business
for
35
years.
G
I
am
the
first
female
CEO
of
this
organization,
also
one
of
only
a
handful
of
female
CEOs
in
major
metropolitan
areas
across
the
country,
I
have
a
passion
for
travel
and
I,
firmly
believe
that
travel
breaks
down
barriers
helps
to
cultivate
Global
cities,
citizens.
It
connects
our
deep
desire
to
explore
and
protect
this
planet
and
to
cherish
all
the
diverse
cultures,
communities,
environments
and
ecosystems
that
call
it
home
here
in
Boston.
We
cannot
wait
to
be
home
to
the
114th
National
Convention.
Thank
you.
H
Good
morning,
I'm
David
Gibbons
and
I'm
the
executive
director
of
the
MCCA,
the
bcec,
where
everything's
going
to
happen.
But
I
would
like
to
thank
president
Derek,
Johnson
and
Tanisha
Sullivan
and
especially
Michael
Curry,
for
inviting
me
here
today
and
it's
incredible
to
think
that
four
years
has
gone
by
since
the
110th
annual
convention
in
Detroit
and
we
were
out
in
Detroit
and
we
were
joined
by
representatives
of
the
city
of
Boston
and
of
the
Commonwealth
of
Massachusetts,
because
we
were
welcoming
the
111th
National
Convention
to
be
in
Boston
Summer
of
2020..
H
Nobody
could
have
predicted
what
the
world
would
face
and
the
impacts
of
covid-19
on
the
city
on
our
industry
today,
I'm
proud
to
be
joined,
Again
by
Community
leaders
in
the
city
and
the
Commonwealth
to
welcome
the
NAACP
back
for
the
114th
as
the
executive
director
of
The
Authority
I
want
to
thank
the
naacp's
national
board
of
directors
for
choosing
Boston
and
I
want
to
recognize
John
McDonnell,
our
chair
and
the
board
of
the
MCCA,
which
is
both
city
and
state
for
the
support.
They've.
H
Given
me
over
the
past
four
years
for
our
team
to
make
it
happen,
the
dedication
and
enthusiasm
in
getting
this
historic
event
back
to
Boston
I'd,
also
like
to
thank
the
members
of
meet
Boston
I.
Think
I
first
met
Martha
we're
in
a
room
and
I
said:
we've
got
this
big
deal.
Trust
me
we're
going
to
make
it
happen
and
I've
got
you
back
and
off
to
Detroit.
We
went
and
I
also
Tanisha.
We've
been
working
for
four
years
to
make
this
happen.
Also.
H
H
H
H
It
all
took
a
tremendous
effort
from
everybody
from
this
Total
Community,
and
it's
really
a
testament
to
how
much
this
city
values
having
your
event
here,
we're
not
giving
up
and
finally
we're
back
here
and
I
think
you
did
an
interim
virtual
in
one
of
those
off
years.
So
congratulations
on
that.
We
have
tremendous
advantages
within
our
industry.
The
biggest,
though,
is
the
city
of
Boston
itself
when
the
attendees
come
to
the
BCC
or
the
hides
they
set
up
home
base
in
these
facilities,
but
their
events
extend
beyond
our
walls.
H
They
connect
with
our
business
communities
our
academic
communities
and
explore
our
neighborhoods.
We're
excited
to
host
the
NAACP
for
this
highly
anticipated
event,
but
it
is
the
collective
Hospitality
of
the
entire
city
that
will
showcase
Boston
next
month
as
the
industry
leading
destination
that
we've
become.
So
thank
you
and
welcome.
I
I
I
also
want
to
take
a
moment
to
thank
Michael
Curry.
He
is,
as
many
of
you
know,
my
predecessor
in
this
role
and
certainly
left
very
big
shoes
to
follow,
but
we
have
been
blessed
with
a
dynamic
executive
committee
here
in
Boston
that
has
been
Resolute
and
ensuring
that
the
work
that
the
mission
of
this
Association
is
carried
out,
unapologetically
with
great
resolve
and
so
several
of
them.
I
Many
of
them
are
standing
up
here
with
me
today,
because
I
believe
that,
as
we
talk
about
this
theme,
thriving
together,
I
want
you
to
see
that
we
are
truly
thriving
together.
I
I
also
I
was
I
was
sharing
with
Martha
for
a
moment.
I
said
we
got
to.
Let
them
know
there
are
women
in
leadership,
okay
and
so
I
I
also
want
to
call
into
the
space
the
fact
that
here
in
Boston,
we
also
have
the
distinction
of
having
the
first
woman
to
serve
as
a
president
in
the
association.
So
the
very
first
president,
very
first
woman,
to
serve
as
president
of
a
local
branch
in
this
Association
was
Florence
the
sewer
and
she
was
president
of
the
Boston
branch.
J
I
And
so
I
also
stand
on
her
shoulders,
of
course,
the
shoulders
of
many
other
women
who
have
served
in
this
role:
Ruth
Batson
melnia
Cass.
These
are
women
of
impact,
not
just
of
title
but
women
who
were
deeply
committed
to
ensuring
that
this
city
was
one
where
we
could
all
live,
work
and
Thrive,
and
so
I'm
honored
to
sh
to
stand
here
today
in
their
legacy.
I
I
I
I
When
we
began
this
journey
in
2019,
Governor
Baker
was
incredibly
supportive
and
Governor.
Healey
has
truly
taken
that
support
to
the
next
level.
Her
entire
cabinet
has
been
activated
to
support
this
convention,
led
by
our
lieutenant
governor
Kim
Driscoll,
our
chief
secretary
April
English,
and
today
we
have
our
undersecretary
for
transportation.
Monica
Tibbetts
nut
here
representing
the
administration
I
also
want
to
thank
our
business
community.
I
I
I
There
are
too
many
folks
counting
on
us
and
so
I
want
to
thank
those
of
you
who
have
joined
us
today.
I
want
to
Echo
attorney
Curry's
invitation
inviting
you
to
join
us
at
the
114th
National
Convention
July
26th
through
August
1st,
at
the
Boston
Convention
and
exhibitor
Center.
We
look
forward
to
seeing
you
and
we
look
forward
to
thriving
together.
K
K
I
am
honored
to
be
here.
I
truly
am
honored
to
be
here
at
the
announcement
of
the
114th
National
Convention,
a
little
a
little
aside
as
to
how
I
got
here.
K
We
were
doing
a
budget
and
Russell
Holmes
came
up
to
me
and
asked
for
amendments.
Is
he
has
often
asked
in
the
past,
but
this
one
was
specific
to
the
NAACP
and.
K
When
he
told
me
how
much
he
was
looking
for
after
they
picked
me
up
off
the
floor,
I
went
to
my
Ace
chairman
of
ways
of
means.
Aaron
Michael
Whitson
said.
K
I
listened
to
to
President
Johnson's
comments
and
was
really
touched
by
the
struggles
that
are
ongoing
in
this
country
and
the
one
thing
I
think
you
can
leave
here
with,
as
you
go
back
to
the
members
who
ask
them
to
attend
your
National
Convention.
Is
that
you're
coming
to
a
place
that
recognizes
the
crisis
that
we're
in
in
this
country?
K
I
think
the
choice
of
this
city
as
your
site.
This
time,
though
it
was
fraught
with
some
stops
and
stats
and
all
good
things
are
a
little
bit
tougher
than
they.
They
usually
ask
them
we're
here
at
a
good
time,
we're
here
at
a
place
that
recognizes
the
struggles
that
recognizes
that
things
have
to
change
that.
We
can't
allow
the
Supreme
Court
to
run
roughshod
on
the
rights
of
individuals,
and
we
must
stand
up.
We
must
end
up
I,
don't
have
a
lot
of
people
around
me.
K
That
was
a
shot
at
Linda
you're,
not
going
to
get
out
and
unscathed
Linda
again
I'm,
just
thrilled
to
be
here
and
I'm
honored
to
be
here.
It's
quite
an
honor
I
thank
Russell
for
coming
up
with
the
amendment
after
I
took
my
hot
medication.
I
was
fine
and
we're
going
to
be
fine.
We
were
able
to
balance
the
budget,
even
though
we
were
shy
a
couple
but
again
thank
you
for
the
invitation
and
thank
you
so
much
for
allowing
me
to
speak.
L
L
Mass
Mutual
has
been
on
this
journey
for
more
than
a
decade
and
it
truly
is
a
journey
and
it's
a
call
to
action
for
all
the
companies
to
join
us
in
that
Journey.
As
an
example
of
some
of
the
work
that
we've
done
more
recently
is
our
impact
investing
work,
we're
in
we're
investing
300
million
in
black
Hispanic
and
diverse
owned
businesses.
L
We
also
have
a
target
of
150
million
in
supplier
diversity.
Now
we're
looking
forward
to
sharing
some
of
our
work
and
also
learning
from
others
around
their
work
that
they're
doing
at
the
convention.
So
in
closing
the
Boston,
the
Boston
business
Community
welcomes
the
NAACP
to
our
city.
L
M
M
That's
what
I
like
to
hear
come
on
come
on,
it's
an
honor
to
stand
before
you
today
as
a
national
director
of
the
youth
and
college
division
of
the
NAACP,
as
we
Embark
upon
this
journey
to
the
114
National
Convention.
Here
in
Boston,
we
Embark
upon
a
lifelong
journey
to
unlock
the
incredible
potential
that
lies
within
our
youth,
our
activists,
our
organizers
and
leaders
in
2023
and
Beyond.
M
M
M
M
What
Boston
leaders
have
done
to
invest
in
our
youth
should
serve
as
a
model
for
local
state
and
National
progress
as
we
prepare
for
this
pivotal
annual
meeting
in
the
great
city
of
Boston,
we
must
understand
that
this
work,
we
do,
must
be
thought
Across.
The
Nation.
This
work
will
equip
our
youth
with
the
resources
and
knowledge
necessary
to
harness
their
Collective
power
and
making
transformative
change
by
shaping
National
conversations,
influencing
policy
and
demanding
accountability.
M
As
we
convene
this
historic
convention,
let
us
remember
that
the
road
ahead
is
not
without
challenge,
but
those
challenges
are
the
fuel
that
ignites
our
determination
and
propels
US
forward.
Let
us
commit
to
Building
Bridges

Justice
Together
We
reshaped,
The
Narrative
of
our
nation.
M
Together,
we
can
transform
the
landscape
of
politics
and
Power
together
we
can
create
a
future
that
celebrates
the
diversity
and
richness
shared
in
our
Humanity.
The
time
is
now
the
moment
is
ripe,
let's
Embrace,
with
an
open
heart,
an
unwavering
resolve
together,
let's
build
black
political
power
and
Usher
in
an
era
of
progress,
equality
and
Liberation.
For
all
may
this
convention
be
the
Catalyst
for
change
that
resonates
far
beyond
the
great
City.
A
A
N
C
A
Is
that
we'll
be
releasing
a
release?
The
medley
follow
the
press
conference
that
will
have
more
details.
There's
some
names
that
we
we
got
to
get
the
thumbs
up
on
before
we
can
say
more
I,
don't
want
to
break
no
whatever,
but
we'll
send
a
release
out
here.
A
momentarily
following
this
they'll
give
you
a
few
more
details
with
regards
to
some
of
the
more
notable
speakers
and
panelists
that
will
be
participating.
G
Hi
we
have
some
preliminary
numbers
well
in
excess
of
10
million
dollars
in
direct
spending
for
the
week
that
the
group
is
here,
but
it's
a
moving
Target
we'll
be
gathering
some
more
data
on
the
off-site
activities
and
adjusting
that
number
as
we
get
closer
to
the
convention.
But
it's
it's
a
significant
impact
for
sure.
G
I
I
think
what's
important
to
note
is
that,
while
there's
approximately
as
Martha
shared
the
the
10
million
direct,
we
are
also
being
very
intentional
about
ensuring
that
we
are
including
black
owned
businesses
by
Park
owned
businesses.
Women-Owned
businesses
to
help
ensure
that
the
impact
is
felt
across
the
region.
And
that
does
take
great
intentionality
and
one
of
the
reasons
why
we
wanted
to
specifically
call
out
some
of
the
consultant
firms
that
we've
already
onboarded.
O
Sam
at
all,
this
is
a
question
for
some
of
the
city.
Folks,
you
guys
spoke
to
a
fund
that
was
created
under
mayor
Walsh,
expanded
under
your
Administration
on
the
cost
of
attendance
for
people
coming
for
convention
and
having
more
details
on
that.
How
much
isn't
expected
cost
for
people
attending
and
then
how
much
to
grow
under
your
adventure.
B
We
can
follow
up
with
that
information.
We
don't
I,
don't
have
the
numbers
off
the
top
of
my
head,
but
very
grateful.
There's
been
a
a
whole
team
at
the
city
level,
dedicated
to
working
alongside
local
leadership,
National
leadership
to
ensure
that
this
convention
is
accessible,
inclusive
and
affordable
to
to
participants.
I
will
say
several
of
those
leaders
are
in
the
room.
Many
many
different
parts
of
our
cabinet
engaged
and
I'll
give
a
shout
out.
Also
we'd
recognize
the
city
councilors,
who
were
present
at
the
beginning
of
the
program.
B
J
I
So
first
and
I'm
in
the
mayor
will
will
elaborate
on
the
city's
Focus
from
an
NAACP
Boston
Branch
standpoint.
We
look
forward
to
welcoming
our
neighbors
across
the
city
for
a
day
of
action
and
service
on
July
22nd
from
10
a.m,
to
12
noon,
and
that
is
that
work
is
being
led
by
the
Davis
Systems.
That
will
be
a
city-wide
day
of
action
in
service
across
five
of
our
neighborhoods.
Here
in
focus
on
five
of
our
neighborhoods
in
the
city,
we
will
be
joined
by
local
residents
as
well
as
our
corporate
community.
I
We
have
what
we're
calling
the
NAACP
experience
at
the
Hub
that
is
free
and
open
to
the
public
all
day
the
career
Summit
will
be
there.
There
will
be
activations
from
many
of
our
members
of
our
corporate
Community,
as
well
as
our
local
organizations.
Again,
that's
the
weekend
of
July
28th
to
July
30th,
free
and
open
to
the
public.
In
addition
to
a
number
of
social
events
that
are
in
the
process
of
being
planned,.
B
I'm
going
to
wave
up
our
director
of
sports
tourism
and
special
events,
John
borders,
as
well
as
Chief
irwu
and
Lori
Nelson,
if
they
want
to
come
up
and
offer
a
quick
word
as
well,
there's
been
a
real
Focus
to
ensure
that
the
impact
is
lasting
and
we
already
have
organizations
black
LED
organizations
centered
in
the
community
who
have
been
putting
in
effort
year
after
year
to
continue
beloved
traditions
and
often
without
the
public,
support
and
recognition
and
attention
of
how
important
this
is
as
critical
infrastructure
for
our
community
events
like
Bam's
Fest
or
Gospel
Fest,
or
the
Caribbean
Carnival,
which
is
in
its
50th
year
this
year.
B
P
Thank
you
so
much
mayor.
We're
really
excited
about
some
of
the
activations
that
we
have
that
will
take
place.
One
thing
that
was
stated
was
that
Friday
night
at
the
Hub
DJ
Jazzy
Jeff
will
be
one
of
the
talents
who
will
be
with
us.
I've
been
trying
to
hold
on
to
like
these
name
drops
until
things
became
official,
but
what
better
place
to
share
some
of
these
details
on
Saturday
night
we
will
have
a
delegates
reception
that
will
be
free
and
open
to
the
public
as
well
from
7
to
11
p.m.
P
We
will
share
details
on
the
location,
but
that
will
be
co-hosted
by
our
mayor
as
well
as
our
governor
and
then
on
Sunday
afternoon.
We
will
also
have
Gospel
Fest,
which
will
take
place
at
the
Pavilion,
and
our
talent
will
be
headlined
by
Fred
Hammond.
We
will
also
have
Kiki
Sheard,
who
will
be
with
us
as
well
as
an
artist
major
in
addition
to
some
local
talent.
P
E
One
of
the
things
we
want
to
stress
upon
the
Boston
Community
is
that
we're
one
of
very
few
national
conventions
that
promote
and
encourage
the
community
to
come
in
and
join
us.
We
are
going
to
educate
and
entertain
The,
Young
and
the
senior,
and
so,
if
you're,
not
a
member
you're
still
invited,
and
we
hope
that
once
you
have
seen
and
enjoyed
who
we
are,
you
will
want
to
be
a
member.
So
we
invite
all
of
Boston
to
come
out
and
visit
the
114th
National
Convention.
