C
D
Good
morning,
come
on,
let's
bow
our
heads
just
for
a
moment
of
Prayer
got
our
father
Eternal
God.
We
thank
you
today
for
this
wonderful
day
of
celebration
for
the
32
Cadets,
who
have
just
graduated
and
moved
on
to
the
next
level
in
phase
of
their
entrance
into
the
Preparatory
program
of
the
fire
department.
God,
we
pray
today
that
you
will
bless
their
families
and
their
friendships
and
their
support
systems.
We
pray
that
you'll
protect
each
one
of
them
from
hurt
harm
and
danger,
and
we
thank
you.
D
Oh
God,
for
the
diversity
of
neighborhoods
from
across
the
city
of
Boston,
from
whence
all
of
them
have
come
to
be
a
part
of
this
program.
We
thank
you
today
for
the
leadership
in
the
fire
department
and
for
the
leadership
of
in
the
within
the
training
program
and
God.
We
pray
that
you
would
bless
each
one
of
us
today
with
health
and
prosperity
and
wellness.
We
give
you
praise
today.
For
another
day
the
Lord
has
kept
us.
D
B
E
E
I'm
honored
to
be
the
commissioner
at
the
start
of
this
program.
It
took
a
lot
of
people
to
get
this
program
off
the
ground.
The
state
legislature
passed
the
legislation
and
we
had
a
diversity
officer.
Michael
Gaskin,
our
HR
Director
Lenny
D'souza,
along
with
our
entire
HR
team,
create
this
program
from
the
ground
up
in
a
very
short
amount
of
time.
Thank
you
all
very
much
for
that.
E
I'd
also
like
to
thank
our
uniform
members
who,
Rose
to
the
occasion
during
this
maiden
voyage
of
this
program,
Lieutenant
David
stock
fire
fight
is
Brian
alkins,
Electro,
Tavares,
Margaret,
Conley,
Michael,
Fitzpatrick,
May,
ho
Dennis
Concepcion
Emily
chin.
Thank
you
all
for
getting
this
program
going.
Thank
you.
E
E
Thank
you
very
much
firefighter
Robinson
he's
been
he's
been
with
these
fight
these
Cadets
from
day
one
managing
32
people
five
days
a
week.
The
optimal
number
of
people
any
person
should
manage
is
five
or
six
so
Rosie
yo.
We
need
five
of
you
to
keep
this
going
all
right.
If
anybody
can
clone
him,
can
we
please
work
on
that
now?
Thank
you
very
much
firefighter
Roosevelt.
Thank
you.
E
So
the
cadets
over
the
past
few
months,
you've
been
with
us
you've
made
a
positive
impression
on
our
staff.
You've
gone
through
a
lengthy
application
process
and
out
of
hundreds
of
applications,
you
were
the
32
that
were
chosen.
You
deserve
this
opportunity
to
serve
our
city,
you'll
begin
in
a
long
journey
that
the
citizen
helping
the
citizens
of
Boston's
in
their
time
of
need.
It
is
hard
to
describe,
but
one
you.
E
E
E
We,
we
already
have
been
receiving
inquiries
from
other
fire
departments
on
how
we
did
this
program,
so
I
think
it's
starting
to
spread
throughout
the
country.
So
thank
you,
mayor
Wu,
for
giving
us
this
opportunity
for
another
fight.
Boston
fire
department
be
the
first
in
the
nation
with
the
new
fighter.
Cadet
program
with
that
is
my
honor
to
introduce
Michelle
Wu
mayor
of
the
city
of
Boston.
F
Hey
everyone
thank
you
for
being
here
for
this
historic
moment
in
the
city
and
one
of
great
celebration
and
pride
I'm,
so
thankful
to
all
of
the
members
of
the
fire
department.
Who've
had
a
hand
in
making
today
happen
and
supporting
our
first
ever
inaugural
Cadet
program
class.
Thank
you
to
the
commissioner,
whose
leadership
through
every
imaginable
and
unimaginable
type
of
issue,
has
been
Rock
Solid
for
our
city
and
has
served
the
department
himself
for
many
many
years,
knowing
every
every
part
of
the
job.
F
I'm
also
grateful,
thank
you
Reverend
and
Rabbi
and
father,
and
all
those
who
ensure
that
the
day-to-day
support
of
our
firefighters
and
of
the
department
encompasses
their
whole
lives
and
to
my
colleagues
in
elected
office,
who
are
here
at
C
city
council
at
large,
Aaron
Murphy
here,
state
representative,
Danny
Ryan.
Here.
Thank
you
for
what
you
do
on
a
daily
basis
and
to
president
Sam
Dillon
and
vice
president
Haywood.
Thank
you
for
all.
You
do
to
represent
the
members
of
local
718..
F
I
I
saw
president
Dylan
eyeing
the
badges
a
little
bit
over
there
and
I
hope.
He'll
say
a
little
bit
about
why
they're.
So
special
for
our
Cadets,
but
it's
been
a
great
partnership
and
we're
so
thankful
for
all
that.
You
do
to
make
sure
that
our
firefighters
have
what
they
need
and
that
we
can
be
an
open
dialogue
about
that.
D
F
To
the
families
and
loved
ones
joining
us
this
morning,
thank
you.
The
Milestone
we're
celebrating
today
is
one
that
requires
a
network
of
support
to
reach
and
behind
each
and
every
one
of
the
leaders
in
our
Boston
fire
department.
Cadet
class
is
a
village
of
Champions
and
cheerleaders
who
have
been
there
every
step
of
the
way.
F
F
When
you
are
the
first
fire
department
in
the
nation
and
the
best
I
might
add,
with
a
legacy
that
stretches
back
more
than
345
years,
it's
not
often
that
we
get
to
celebrate
New
firsts.
So
this
is
a
truly
special
moment
and
especially
big
deal
that
will
go
down
in
the
Departments
and
our
City's
history
and
that's
something
that
we
are
all
incredibly
proud
of.
F
We're
proud,
not
only
because
you
are
the
first,
but
because
you
are
the
first
among
many,
the
Boston
Potter
Department
received
more
than
170
applications
for
this
inaugural
class
of
cadets
from
those
more
than
170.
They
selected
the
32
of
you
here
today,
32
individuals,
family
members,
community
members
who
represent.
A
F
Thank
you.
Over
the
last
eight
weeks,
you've
climbed
ladders
and
thrown
them
you've
done
bunker
gear
and
learned
to
identify
the
tools
that
firefighters
deploy
in
emergency
situations
to
save
our
residents
lives
together.
You've
pushed
yourselves
and
each
other
to
remember
what
led
you
to
apply
for
this
program
in
the
first
place
to
reflect
on
what
it
means
to
you
and
those
you
love
and
what
you've
been
willing
to
sacrifice
in
order
to
achieve
it
and
over
the
next
two
years
you
will
continue
to
be
pushed
and
challenged
and
grow
through
the
hands-on
experience.
F
F
B
F
G
Good
morning,
everyone
and
allow
me
to
welcome
you
to
the
very,
very
proud
home,
foyin
Hall,
a
Boston
firefighters,
local
718.
I,
want
to
thank
everyone
for
coming
down
here
today.
For
this
very
special
event,
mayor
Wu.
Thank
you
for
attending
once
again,
thank
you
for
your
leadership
and
thank
you
for
the
dialogue,
as
you
put
it
that
we
continue
to
engage
in
representing
all
of
Boston's,
firefighters
and
someday
for
the
ones
who
make
the
cut
these
Cadets
to
our
Command
Staff
chief
of
Department
Burke.
G
G
I
have
Boston
Fire
Department
badge
number
one:
three,
six
two
that
was
presented
to
me
in
this
Hall
on
this
stage
by
mayamati
Walsh,
when
I
became
a
firefighter
the
minute
that
they
pinned
that
badge
on
my
uniform.
They
also
pinned
it
in
my
heart.
That's
the
mentality
that
you
have
to
adopt.
If
you
want
to
be
successful
as
a
Cadet
and
you
want
to
be
successful,
hopefully,
as
a
boss
in
firefighter
mayor
Wu
called
me
out,
she
saw
me
eyeing
the
badges
that
you're
about
to
get
they're
very
sharp.
Very
well
done.
G
You
got
the
painted
badges,
we
haven't
seen
those
for
a
while,
so
congratulations,
mine
doesn't
have
that,
so
you
got
nicer
badges
in
the
union.
President!
Congratulations!
But
let
me
tell
you
about
that.
This
badge
that
I
have
1362.
they
could
have
made
this
out
of
a
tin
can
and
I
would
still
wear
it.
With
this
much
pride
I
would
still
wear
it
with
this
much
honor.
G
G
G
B
Next
speaker
is
Michael.
Gaston
now
fired,
include
officer.
H
Good
morning
everybody
I'm
more
of
a
silent
partner
in
all
this
and
I.
Don't
have
my
saxophone
in
front
of
me,
so
my
public
speaking,
isn't
all
that
great,
but
I
want
to
first.
Thank
you
all
for
being
here
to
the
representatives
city,
councilors,
state
representatives,
Madam,
mayor
I,
know,
I
didn't
do
that
in
order,
but
thank
you.
Thank
you
for
your
Hospitality
president.
H
Dylan
I
also
want
to
acknowledge
a
few
of
our
Partners
in
getting
this
to
where
we
are
today,
including
past
president
higginbottom
from
the
Boston
Society
of
Vulcans.
This
conversation.
H
This
conversation
started
well
before,
as
I
was
a
BPD
representative,
A
diversity,
recruitment
officer,
came
over
to
fire
about
a
year
ago
and
I
want
you
to
know.
We've
had
several
conversations
even
before
I
was
with
the
Boston
fire
department
about
the
cadet
program
about
Recruitment,
and
so
we
definitely
consider
great
partners,
of
course,
attorney
Halls
right
next
to
him
from
the
LCR
I'll
say
it.
Okay,
I
cannot
remember.
Lawyers
for
civil
rights
as
well.
H
H
And
as
we're
continuing
to
focus
on
Fitness,
it's
not
only
about
getting
into
an
academy,
it's
also
about
graduating
an
academy.
So
I
want
to
thank
health
and
ladders,
which
is
our
internal
health
and
fitness
program,
Lieutenant,
Beau,
Claiborne
and
Lieutenant.
It's
a
hyphenated,
Joshua
Stewart
Shore.
Here
we
go.
Thank
you.
H
I
especially
want
to
thank
mayor
Wu
for
your
leadership.
You
may
not
remember
the
first
time
that
we
met,
but
I
do
I
was
part
of
a
program
called
lead
Boston.
In
a
particular
week
we
were
covering
Health
disparities
in
the
communities.
You
were
the
city,
councilor
then,
and
one
distinct
memory.
I
have
the
in
the
discussion
on
that
day
is
observing
the
way
you
listen
to
people.
I
said
to
myself.
She
actually
she's
actually
listening
through
this
conversation.
This
is
a
tremendous
skill
to
have
in
leadership.
Recently.
H
It's
a
great
part
to
be
amazed,
it's
a
great
to
be
an
amazing
part
of
this
Ensemble
on
stage
as
well
with
our
conductor,
commissioner,
Burke
I'm,
our
director
of
HR
lady
de
Souza,
who's,
a
tremendous
musician,
as
you
all
know,
and
have
heard
in
her
own
right
and
our
our
HR
team,
shella
and
Deirdre
our
Command
style,
deputy
chief
Marshall,
who
never
grows
tired
of
me
in
the
doorway
of
his
office.
Even
before
he's
had
the
chance
to
put
his
back
down.
H
I
saw
him
just
this
morning:
Deputy
Chief,
calabresi,
Deputy,
Chief,
Viola,
Viola
and
deputy
chief
Burke
I
want
to
thank
you
for
listening,
encouraging
and
asking
the
tough
questions
not
just
pointing
out
deficiencies
but
coming
to
the
table
with
Solutions.
Thank
you,
representative
Chyna
Tyler,
for
listening
to
the
Boston
Society
of
Vulcans
and
our
communities.
We're
pushing
for
this
legislation
that
gives
the
city
a
chance
to
create
access
to
an
amazing
career
for
residents
of
the
city
of
Boston.
H
H
It's
uncomfortable
and
we're
excited
and
eager
to
learn
more
about
how
we
might
improve,
especially
encouraged
by
the
calls
we're
receiving
from
the
municipalities
asking
about
what
we're
doing
we're
ready
to
listen,
they're
ready
to
listen,
we're
still
trying
to
figure
out
some
of
the
things,
but
starting
with
the
template
laid
before
us
by
the
Boston
Police
Department
in
the
late
70s
I
want
to
thank
the
police
officers
that
are
here
even
a
Cadet
that
showed
up
as
well
that
I
think
I
hired
last
year.
H
So
I
had
the
privilege
of
hiring
here
last
year
as
a
BPD
Cadet
fast
forward.
To
now
the
mass
State
Police
has
a
Cadet
Trooper
program,
and
so
Captain
Anthony
dear
Mass,
state
trooper
is
a
part
of
that
where
we're
seeing
their
recruitment
so
understand
that
the
idea
can
start
here
can
start
with
BPD,
but
we
want
to
make
sure
that
people
have
access
to
great
opportunities,
I'm
appreciative
of
those
that
have
challenged
us
partners
with
us
along
the
way.
H
I
truly
believe
that
iron
sharpness
iron
Boston,
firefighter
Lieutenant
stock,
firefighter
Electro
Tavares,
firefighter
Fitzpatrick,
Michael
Fitzpatrick
and
firefighter
Roosevelt
Robinson
one
day,
he'll.
Allow
me
to
call
him
Rosie.
Thank
you
for
asking
the
tough
questions
and
setting
a
strong
foundation
on
which
to
build.
We
look
forward
to
your
continued
contribution,
perfecting
what
you
have
started.
Excuse
me
what
you
started
to
be
clear.
This
is
not
a
graduation.
H
This
is
not
end
of
a
process
for
them.
It's
a
pinning
ceremony
a
graduation
would
lead
us
to
believe
that
something's
been
accomplished
or
completed.
The
work
is
not
done.
Our
Cadets
are
just
beginning.
We
call
in
the
cadet
program.
We
call
it
the
cadet
program,
but
this
is
a
job.
It's
a
professional
opportunity.
H
They're
working
at
city
of
Boston
employees,
our
hope
is
to
provide
the
resources,
encouragement
and
the
time
and
in
the
near
future,
for
you
to
be
counted
as
the
most
prepared
most
committed
and
thought
of
as
the
best
recruit
in
the
history
of
the
Boston
fire
academy.
That
will
be
the
standard,
and
that
will
be
the
expectation
that
is
the
potential
we
saw
in
you
during
your
interview
process.
Doing
your
Fitness
evaluation
and
we
see
it
in
you
now,
as
you
work
to
encourage
one
another
today,
you're.
Well,
the
badge
shiny.
H
H
The
color
of
the
patch
borrows
from
the
theme
Boston
Strong,
with
yellow
and
blue
blue,
signifying
the
horizon,
or
life
potential
and
promise
of
a
new
day,
the
color,
yellow
or
light
being
that
light
on
a
hill,
a
light
to
others,
impacting
the
community
around
you
at
our
core
serving
with
empathy,
sympathy,
care
and
respect
the
light
that
that
the
that
light,
that
impact
that
you
have
an
author
by
the
name
of
Stephen
Pemberton,
actually
wrote
a
book
The
Lighthouse
effect
how
ordinarily
ordinary
people
can
have
an
extraordinary
impact
on
the
world.
H
H
These
two
years
three
years
will
fly
by
in
an
instant
it's
a
tremendous
opportunity
before
you
grab
it
hold
on
to
it.
The
poet
Benjamin
e
Mays
wrote
a
poem
of
life
just
being
a
minute,
and
this
part
of
your
life
in
your
career
is
this.
As
opposed
to
this,
life
is
just
a
minute:
I've
only
just
a
minute.
Only
six
60
seconds
in
it
forced
upon
me
can't
refuse
it
didn't,
seek
it
didn't
choose
it,
but
it's
up
to
me
to
use
it.
I
must
suffer
if
I
lose.
H
B
A
B
Since
this
is
not
a
graduation
we're
doing
the
pending
a
little.
H
We're
not
having
the
cadets
on
the
stage
they'll
be
coming
in
front
of
the
stage
pinned
by
one
of
their
mentors
and
or
instructors
and
then
at
the
end
of
the
ceremony.
Families
are
welcome
to
take
pictures
in
front
of
the
backdrops
over
there
as
well
so
I'll
be
reading
the
names
in
alphabetical
order.

and
so
we
pray
that
this
beginning
be
creative
and
productive
form
a
foundation
for
the
future.
As
with
your
guidance
and
blessing,
oh
Lord,
our
department
and
our
city
goes
from
strength
to
ever
greater
strength.
May
this
be
God's
Will
and,
let
us
say,
amen,
amen,.
