From YouTube: Boston Double Up Food Bucks Launch
Description
Boston launches the Double Up Food Bucks program at World's Best Food Market & Vegetarian Product Inc., located in Hyde Park. This program makes fresh fruits and vegetables more affordable for EBT recipients.
A
We're
very
exciting
that
we
are
relaunching
our
possible
tables
program.
Oh
wow,
what
a
city
both
on
Tomo
plan
program,
I
just
want
to
share
with
you
a
little
bit
of
how
this
program
is
started
in
2016
the
office
of
food
access.
They
hosted
a
community
listening
stations,
and
we
hear
over
and
over
from
our
two
station
that
if
you
have
five
more
dollars,
I
will
use
those
for
buy
fruit
and
vegetables.
If
you
have
five,
more
dollars
will
buy
the
fruits.
So
my
kid
wants
to
work
was
to
have
every
morning
hey.
A
All
this
process
with
us
I
want
to
thank
her
food
network
and
I
want
to
take
the
Michael
and
Susan
Dell
foundation
and
the
store
owners
that
are
being
part
of
this
program.
As
I
say,
this
is
the
beginning.
Our
goal
is
to
expand
and
we
really
are
looking
for
Tina
Boston
more
healthy
and
thriving,
and
we
are
completely
sure
that
this
is
the
first
step
for
doing
that
before
they
start
getting
too
emotional
and
all
the
stuff
I
want
to
introduce
a
Marty
Martinez
chief
of
Health
and
Human
Services
chief.
Thank
you.
B
So
I
am
excited
to
be
here
to
sort
of
just
think
the
mayor's
office
of
food
access
on
behalf
of
Mayor
Walsh,
who,
unfortunately
can't
be
here
today,
you
get
the
other
Marty,
but
it's
just
as
good
I
am
excited
to
just
be
here
with
you
all
and,
more
importantly,
to
sort
of
start
this
program,
because
the
most
important
thing
for
me
is
to
make
sure
that
we're
understanding
that
the
access
to
food
is
not
a
simple
thing.
It's
not
an
insignificant
thing.
It's
an
important
thing!
B
Thank
you
for
this
partnership.
This
opportunity
to
do
this.
We
are
going
to
take
it
a
couple
couple
neighborhoods
now,
but
do
everything
we
can
to
raise?
The
profile
of
the
work
Daily
table
was
one
of
our
partners,
FNT,
Davies,
supermarket
and,
of
course,
our
partner
here,
the
world's
best
food
market
and
vegetarian
products,
which
is
great
we're
excited
to
be
able
to
be
here
to
sort
of
kick
off
the
program
in
Boston
alone.
People
may
know
this.
B
When
customers
pay
with
their
snap
or
EBT
card,
the
discount
will
automatically
be
deducted
from
their
total
at
the
register.
There's
no
requirements
to
participate
in
the
Boston
double
up
and
all
snap
recipients
are
encouraged
to
utilize.
The
program,
and
the
most
important
thing
for
me
is:
let's
eliminate
barriers
right.
One
of
the
things
that
mayor
Walsh
talks
about
a
lot
is
that
the
work
of
the
city
administration
is
to
help
people
reach
the
middle
class.
B
In
order
to
help
people
reach
the
middle
class,
you
got
eliminate
all
barriers
for
them
to
get
there
and
one
of
those
barriers
is
hunger,
food
security,
food
deserts
and
access
to
quality
and
accessible
and
affordable
food,
and
that's
what
this
program
is
about
and
that's
what
we're
trying
to
be
able
to
do
so
again
from
me
from
Mayor
Walsh.
Congratulations!
The
office
of
food
access,
which
continues
to
do
this
really
important
work,
I'm
excited
to
be
here
and
to
be
a
part
of
it
and
I
just
want
to.
B
C
Hi
everybody,
hello,
Hyde,
Park,
Thank,
You,
chief
Martinez,
and
thank
you
all
for
for
being
here
today.
I'm.
My
name
is
Liz
Alpern
and
I'm
here
on
behalf
of
Fair
Food
Network
and
we
are
a
national
nonprofit
and
we
are
a
partner
on
this
program
and
so
excited
to
be
here.
Launching
double
up
food
bucks
Boston
today.
I
do
want
to
thank
so
much
the
mayor
of
this
office,
food
access
and,
of
course,
the
Michael
and
Susan
Dell
foundation
that
are
supporting
this
program
and,
of
course,
all
of
our
participating
stores.
C
So
I
want
to
give
you
just
a
little
bit
of
background
on
this
program,
so
you
have
a
sense
of
where
does
all
this
come
from
and
nearly
a
decade
ago
we
piloted
this
program
called
double
up:
food
bucks
in
farmers,
markets
in
Michigan,
five
farmers
markets
in
Michigan,
and
the
idea
was
well.
Why
don't
we
go
we'll
we'll
double
what
people
spend
on
nap
dollars
or
food
stamps
as
they're
also
called
and
and
we'll
double
it,
and
that's
going
to
bring
benefit
to
our
farmers.
It's
going
to
bring
benefit
to
small
businesses.
C
C
We
have
generated
nearly
23
million
dollars
in
sales,
and
that
is
money
that
is
directly
benefiting
farmers
and
and
families
and
local
businesses,
and-
and
so
here
we
are
in
Boston
we're
bringing
this
program
to
Boston
and
we're
so
excited
to
be
doing
it
because
Boston
is,
is
totally
fertile
ground
to
grow
this
kind
of
an
opportunity.
We
have
the
kind
of
stores
that
are
really
getting
on
board
and
bringing
their
full
commitment
to
this
program.
We
have
the
administration,
we
have
the
mayor's
office,
we
have
Mayor
Walsh's
commitment
and
vision
to
this
program.
C
We
have
the
mayor's
office
of
food
access.
Everyone
has
been
working
so
hard
to
make
this
happen
and
we
have
all
of
you
all
of
you
are
here,
because
you
want
to
learn
more
because
you're
interested,
because
you
believe
in
the
possibility
of
a
healthier
City,
and
so
so.
This
is
it
Boston
is,
is
ready
for
this
program
and
we
can't
and
we
can't
wait
to
see
it
grow
over
time
to
more
neighborhoods
and
more
stores.
So
I
really
think
I
just
want
to
just
want
to.
C
D
The
developed
program
is
opponent.
Program
is
give
the
opportunity
to
the
community
to
buy
the
fresh
and
healthy
vegetable,
because
when
you
see
that
the
the
vegetable
and
the
fruits
they
know
the
lost,
are
they
important
for
the
healthy
life
and
then
supporting
the
program?
And
then,
when
still
call
me
come
here
and
and
like
me,
sit
down
with
me
and
talk
to
me
about
it
and
I
say
being
Vicky
long
time
ago.
It's
ripen
to
this
bag,
and
then
I
talked
to
her
about
a
view
and
I
say
well.
D
We
started
before
what
like
five
years
ago,
but
we
continue
to
do
it
and
after
that
they
went
down.
But
when
she
come
back
to
me
and
I
said:
hey
I'm
already
there
come
here,
I'm
waiting
for
you
and
she
came,
and
then
she
walk
with
me
and
and
that's
it
okay
and
then
she
said
this
is
what
you're
gonna
need.
This
is
what
I'm
gonna
do
and
then
I
said:
okay,
that's
fine
and
the
first
week,
one
cheek
after
she
left
when
I
put
the
vegetable
the
fruit
in
there
and
then
some
people's
convenience.
D
All
that
nice
very
nice,
and
then
you
know
you
buy
for
ten,
you
p5o
not
save
me
money
and
I'll
save
you
money.
They
give
you
relative
life
too,
so
I'm
going
to
keep
pushing
and
to
keep
the
program
and
forth
here,
because
I
want
my
community
to
be
very
healthy
and
then,
if
I
have
L
to
be
both
that's
been
my
business
gonna
be
healthy.
Thank
you
continue.
B
So,
thank
you
so
much
Christian
not
only
for
doing
the
program
but,
as
we
talked
about
earlier
for
not
giving
up
right
because
it's
easy
to
try
something
if
it
doesn't
work,
we
sort
of
what
we
tried
that,
but
thank
you
for
being
our
partner
and
we're
gonna
keep
pushing
in
keep
trying
to
make
it
work
and
bring
resources
in.
So
you
can
not
only
have
a
healthy
business
but
a
healthy,
healthy
neighbors.
So
I
really
appreciate
it.
I
also
want
to
thank
our
Commissioner
of
a
q4d
TAS
here
from
the
state.
B
Thank
you
for
being
here
and
appreciate
all
the
work
you
do
to
help
us
sort
of
do
this
work
at
a
city
level.
So
thank
you.
Thank
you
for
being
here.
I
just
really
want
to
sort
of
end
by
saying
a
couple:
quick
things
one.
There
are
resources
over
here
that
Stephanie's
worked
hard
to
put
over
here.
So
we
have
resources
over
here
that
we
want
you
to
take
a
look
at
about
the
program.
B
I
can't
stress
enough
that
the
city
is
committed
to
figuring
out
how
to
put
more
healthy
food
in
the
hands
of
people
and
we're
gonna
keep
working,
we're
gonna
keep
partying
with
the
stee
we're
gonna
partner
with
nonprofits.
Here
our
Boston
and
local
businesses.
We're
gonna,
keep
doing
the
work.
The
cost
of
hunger
and
food
insecurity
is
so
great
that
we
have
to
keep
working
and
we're
gonna
keep
doing
it.
We're
thinking
about
how
were
thinking
about
Human
Services.
We
have
to
think
about
access
to
food,
so
we're
gonna
keep
doing
that
work.
B
If
you
want
to
learn
more
about
the
program,
you
can
go
to
the
mayor's
office
of
food
access
website
at
Boston,
slash,
Department,
slash,
food
access
or
call
up
a
city
hall,
and,
most
importantly,
I
just
want
to
thank
folks
for
being
here
together.
We
can
continue
to
collaborate
not
only
to
make
a
difference
but
raise
awareness
around
these
important
issues.
Thank
you.
So
much.
Everyone
have
a
great
weekend.
