From YouTube: Garvey Park Groundbreaking
Description
Mayor Walsh joined with elected officials and Dorchester residents for the groundbreaking of renovations to Garvey Park. This $5 million investment includes improvements to various sports fields, play equipment and a dog park, along with increased lighting and seating, and more accessible entrances.
A
A
This
5.1
million
dollar
renovation
came
from
the
mayor's
capital
budget,
which
includes
a
seven
hundred
and
ninety
thousand
dollars,
investment
from
the
Community
Preservation
Act
CPA.
So
thank
you
to
the
taxpayers
for
helping
pass
the
CPA
and
adding
another
seven
hundred
and
ninety
thousand
dollars
to
this
worthwhile
project.
I.
A
Want
to
thank
our
design
team
that
worked
on
this
design
ground
view
design.
If
you
haven't
seen
it,
it
was
a
little
windy
for
the
board,
so
they
are
underneath
the
tent
on
your
way
out.
If
you
weren't,
able
to
check
out
the
design
and
Fleming
construction,
we'll
be
working
here
throat
next
summer
to
make
sure
that
this
one's
an
investment
that's
here
to
last
for
the
community.
A
This
park
is
named
after
private
William
H
Garvey,
a
US
Army,
a
World
War,
one
veteran
who
was
killed
in
action.
November,
10th,
1918
I
understand
some
of
those
families
here
so
I'd
like
to
recognize
them.
Please,
if
you
don't
mind
waving
or
raising
your
hand,
just
to
acknowledge
them.
Thank
you
for
joining
us.
A
A
It's
gonna
have
a
two
to
five
year
old
playground:
a
five
to
12
year
old
play
area,
a
brand-new
street
hockey
facility,
a
basketball
court,
a
big,
a
big
addition
here
for
this
community:
we're
going
to
love
a
dog
recreation
space
that
Leo
that
four
areas
for
dogs
to
run
around
over
by
where
the
street
hockey
court
used
to
be
a
new
astroturf
field
for
both
baseball
softball
practice,
and
for
that
for
our
own
grade
and
upon
to
flag
football
league,
so
they'll
be
able
to
play
here
on
this
field
with
lights.
So
this
will.
A
A
So
if
you're
not
familiar,
there
is
some
jurisdictional
issues
with
DCI
on
some
of
the
property
and
park
zones,
the
majority
of
it,
but
we're
working
together
to
make
to
increase
the
size
of
the
dog
park
and
work
together
to
make
sure
that
this
is
the
best
possible
park
with
the
best
design
you
can
with
the
constraints
we
have.
So
thank
you
to
the
DCR
and
all
of
our
state
elected
officials
for
helping
us
cross
the
finish
line,
we're
looking
forward
to
a
summer
2020
opening
of
this
newly
renovated
facility.
A
We
thank
all
the
residents
for
your
input
and
your
involvement
throughout
the
community
process
and
it's
really
not
my
pleasure
to
introduce
a
man
from
this
neighborhood,
but
one
that
cares
about
parks.
One!
That's
given
historic
funding
to
the
parks
and
he's
made
sure
that
all
Boston
residents
were
the
second
city
in
the
United
States.
First
on
the
East
Coast
we're
all
residents
are
within
a
10-minute
walk
from
their
front
door
to
their
nearest
local,
open
space.
So
now,
without
further
ado,
please
welcome
the
mayor
of
the
city
of
Boston,
Martin
Jol,.
B
B
For
the
great
work
that
they
do
here
in
Georgia,
but
all
over
the
city
of
Boston
I
want
to
thank
Pat,
Brophy
chief
of
operations
and
his
team
for
for
running
a
process
here
and
getting
the
community
active
and
talking
about.
What's
going
to
happen
here
at
Garvey,
which
is
a
awesome,
I
want
to
thank
city,
councilors,
Michael,
Flaherty
and
Easter
sabe
George,
state
representative,
Danny,
hunt
and
I
want
to
get
Frank
Baker
chilies
in
Ireland
right
now.
You
would
have
been
here
for
pushing
and
getting
the
money
available
for
this
Park.
B
This
proximity
over
a
five
million
dollar
investment,
almost
in
the
790,000
from
CPA
funds.
The
rest
is
coming
on
to
the
general
funds.
This
parks
that
truly
a
collaboration
with
the
neighborhood
and
in
the
community
I
want
to.
Thank
you
all
we're
upgrading
a
lot
in
this
Park
Recreation
sporting
areas,
for
the
kids
and
for
adults
play
areas
for
our
young
people.
We
want
to
make
sure
new
lighting
and
seating.
It's
going
to
be
more
walkable
and
accessible
for
folks,
it's
going
to
be
a
park
that
that's
for
all
ages
and
in
this
product.
B
It's
a
lot.
A
lot
of
use
you
have
a
lot
of
used
to
have
a
lot
of
baseball
here.
Sell
us
some
baseball
here.
Have
a
lot
of
football
have
a
lot
of
flag
football
here.
I
know,
lacrosse
has
played
here
over
across
the
way
of
the
the
street
hockey
leagues
and
some
other
things
happening
in
so
this.
This
is
a
great
opportunity
here
in
the
Neponset
area,
to
have
a
beautiful
park.
B
I'm
excited
about
this
product,
I'm
excited
about
the
fact
that
when
I
first
got
elected,
state
representative
I
got
a
call
from
the
constituents
on
Tolman
Street.
There
was
a
big
problem
of
drainage
and
off
any
of
you
here
in
Holmen
we
was
what
the
person
would
call
me,
and
we
had
a
big
problem
of
drainage
and
we're
trying
to
figure
out
what's
wrong
and
ultimately,
what
happened
was
there
was
a
short
pipe
over
there,
another
carriage
in
it
and
we're
trying
to
figure
out
what's
going
on
in
few
years
and
years.
B
The
drainage
problems
in
this
park
has
been
a
big
problem,
this
product
kind
of.
Does
it
all,
and
it's
so
important
that
I
was
yesterday.
We
were
in
in
Mattapan,
and
we
named
the
park
after
one
of
the
activists
in
the
community
who
passed
away
and
I
was
talking
about
the
park,
how
beautiful
was,
and
it
was
a
Warner
football
field
and
the
first
game
they
had
two
years
ago
when
it
was
open,
a
team
from
Brookline
came
in
and
all
that
a
DA
was
only
this
is
in
Dorchester.
B
This
is
in
Mattapan,
I
can't
believe
they.
It
feels
like
this,
and
we
want
to
make
sure
I
want
to
make
sure
that
every
single
field
we
have
in
the
city
of
Boston
every
single
pot
we
have
in
the
city
of
Boston
is
as
good
as
any
single
Park
in
the
suburbs
and
there's
a
for
mobility.
Coach
I
certainly
know
that
coaching
Little
League
from
McConnell
Park
and
then
going
on
the
travel
team
that
look
like
family
Park
playing
in
some
of
these
places.
So
we're
gonna
continue
to
make
investments
in
our
neighborhoods.
B
We're
going
to
continue
to
make
investments
here
and
do
extra
centering
all
over
the
city
of
Boston.
So
I
want
to.
Thank
you
all
I'd
be
remiss
if
I
didn't
mention
just
real
quickly.
This
park
officer
officers
with
climate
change
and
I
know
that
Sun
on
the
front
and
center
of
a
lot
of
people's
money,
but
with
dedicating
10%
of
all
of
our
capital
spending
to
climate
resilient
projects
and
we're
doing
a
program
called
resilient
Boston.
B
It's
just
so
we're
looking
at
the
climate
change
in
Tulsa
and
we
did
it
in
Southie
and
we'll
make
me
sure
that
this
climate
change
happens
as
sea
level
rise
happens
and
do
it.
So
you
think
well,
it
doesn't
really
affect
us
personally
here
in
the
pancit,
but
a
couple
years
ago,
when
the
pots
are
certain
flooded
out
in
cars.
It's
a
crime
under
the
hundred.
B
That's
a
result
of
climate
change,
so
we
need
to
make
sure
it
continued
in
investments
as
we
move
forward.
So
I'm
gonna
stop
talking
there
and
I
would
ask
our
elected
officials
come
on
that.
First,
a
few
words
I'm
going
to
ask
C
confernece
rossabi
George
come
out,
City
Council,
Michael
clarity
and
then
the
clean
up
will
be
the
end.
C
So
as
a
legal
can
right
here
after
you
may,
as
that,
make
me
fast
just
want
to
thank
everyone
for
being
here
today.
I
think
what
the
mayor
mentioned
about
making
sure
that
all
of
our
parks,
especially
for
our
young
people,
our
state-of-the-art,
are
something
that
they're,
proud
of
something
that
we
as
parents
and
community
members
are
proud
of,
is
really
important
to
me.
That
is
it.
C
We
all
know
that
that's
very
true
when
we
go
to
suburban
fields,
there's
a
different
experience,
and
that
know
that
for
sure
is
changing
under
Mayor
Walsh's
leadership
I
had
poison
a
plate
on
this
pack
of
variety
of
sports.
They
use
the
rink,
and
for
me
this
is
probably
going
to
be
what
comes
closest
to
a
complex,
and
it
will
certainly
be
went
down
that
state
of
the
art
complex
that
folks
of
all
the
ages
can
can
utilize
them
super
excited
about
that.
C
I
can't
wait
to
maybe
get
a
City
Council
softball
game
on
this
field.
After
I
tell
them,
it
will
reverse
the
state
legislature,
the
Boston
delegation
versus
everybody,
so
I
look
forward
to
that,
but
really
excited
to
be
here
with
all
of
you
and
can't
wait
to
see
that
kids
playing
on
this
field,
these
fields
and
in
these
parks,
when
it's
all
done,
Thank
You
mayor.
D
This
is
a
great
day
for
Dorchester,
as
I
was
joking
with
the
mayor.
I
said
da
Chester
gets
everything
these
days
so
proud
to
be
here,
proud
to
support
the
Mays
capital
working
with
my
colleagues
in
the
council
also
is
the
chair
of
the
Community
Preservation
Committee
on
the
council
being
able
to
work
with
those
assisting
funds
to
the
tune
of
seven
hundred
ninety
thousand
to
go
with
the
capital,
so
it's
gonna
be
beautiful
when
it's
done
in
this
Park
also
has
some
personal
significance
to
my
family.
D
Sadly,
its
way
my
cousin
Patrick
took
his
life,
so
I
know
that
my
cousins
and
my
aunts
and
bye
here
from
time
to
time
to
pray
and
reflect
and
to
give
us
that's
a
Frenchman
down
every
rabies.
This
is
going
to
be
really
enjoy
the
groundbreaking
and
look
forward
to
the
completion
of
the
project
and
it's
going
to
be
a
marvel
for
the
entire
tour,
just
a
neighborhood.
So
thank
you
and
God
bless
and
with
that
introduce
your
state
representative,
Jim
hunt,
Danny
hunt.
E
Thank
you
no
great
day
great
to
see
all
the
kids
out
here
and
it's
all
about
them
always
and
needs
to
spoke
about
it,
but
the
mayor,
as
well
as
the
City
Council's,
made
a
strong
commitment
to
our
local
parks
and
improving
the
quality
of
life
of
all
the
citizens
of
of
the
city,
including
libraries,
community,
centers
and
parks
like
this.
This
is
very
special
for
me.
E
It
was
my
local
park,
I
learned
by
fill
cavities
that
just
change
a
watch
back
if
you're
an
hour
late
going
home
for
dinner
and
has
one
one
person
left,
but
also
there's
a
number
of
dogs
here.
Part
of
this
Improvement
Program
is
going
to
include
a
dog
park
in
this
south.
He
has
everything
as
a
dock
park
in
Southie.
E
We're
going
to
have
one
over
here,
I
think
they're
building
another
one
at
Pope,
John
Paul
Park,
which
is
there's
a
meeting
about
that
this
evening
and
just
a
shout
out
to
the
Thornton
and
Garvey
family
Ryan
spoke
about
it,
but
this
park
is
named
after
mr.
Garvey,
who
was
at
November
10th,
which
someone
said
was
honest.
E
This
day,
this
community,
as
well
as
South
Boston,
has
a
strong
commitment
to
serving
our
nation,
whether
in
the
military,
police
and
fire,
and
that
was
one
thing
that
kind
of
struck
me
is
that
you
know
should
have
been
coming
home.
So
it's
great
to
rededicate
this
park
in
his
honor
and
I
know
I'm
going
to
enjoy
it.
Thank
you.
