From YouTube: Chinatown Welcome Home
Description
Tune in as Mayor Janey and distinguished members of the Chinatown community celebrate the Chinatown Land Trust's newly attained affordable condominium units. Featuring a key handoff to the low income homeowners and a selection of speakers, this event is nothing less than a turning point for Chinatown's low-income housing market.
A
Hello
and
welcome
everybody.
I
we're
particularly
honored
to
welcome
mayor
janie
representative
michael
witts,
our
city
councilor,
ed
flynn
and
lydia
edwards,
chief
housing,
chief
sheila,
dillon,
kristin,
harrell
and
molly
wallahan
lockwood
from
the
life
initiative,
karen
chen
from
the
chinese
progressive
association
and
so
many
other
people
here
who
really
made
this
project
possible.
B
B
B
A
And
when
we
first
started
the
chinatown
community
land
trust,
several
years
ago,
a
lot
of
people
looked
at
us
and
said
a
community
land
trust
in
chinatown.
Do
you
have
some
land?
Well
good
luck
with
that,
but
I
think
that
we
are
proving
today
that
it
is
never
too
late
to
take
control
of
your
community
and
stabilize
your
community.
A
A
I'm
sorry,
the
hundreds
of
community
members
who
signed
petitions
marched,
attended
zoning
hearings
held
press
conferences
over
the
past
few
years,
led
by
the
chinese
progressive
association
and
the
chinatown
stabilization
committee,
who
stood
up
and
fought
to
preserve
our
small-scale
row
house
streets
for
working-class
families
and
the
city
councilors
like
city
councillor,
lydia,
edward
city,
councillor,
ed
flynn,
and
at
that
time,
a
city
councilor.
B
Tim
go
to.
B
B
B
So
abby
was
really
pleased
to
be
here
today
to
thank
the
land
trust
to
providing
this
opportunity
for
her
young
family
that
they
can
stay
in
the
community,
and
so
they
can
get
a
good
education.
Now
that
she
does
not
have
to
worry
about
being.
Kicked
out
that
so
many
of
her
friends
are
worrying
about.
D
Hi
everyone-
I
am
so
excited
to
be
here-
to
thank
the
chinatown
community,
land
trust
and
the
chinese
progressive
association
for
all
of
close
systems.
I
work
in
tv
and
I
still
don't
know
how
mics
work
I'm
excited
to
thank
the
chinatown
community,
land
trust
and
the
chinese
progressive
association
for
all
of
their
work
in
establishing
and
creating
this
land
trust
homeownership
opportunity.
D
I
moved
to
boston
for
school
in
2017
and
without
opportunities
like
this
created
by
these
organizations
and
the
city
long-term
living
in
boston
would
not
have
been
an
option
for
me.
So
I'm
incredibly
grateful
for
this
opportunity
and
I
can't
say
enough
how
much
I
want
to
thank
you
all
for
the
work
that
you've
done
and
I'm
very
excited.
So
thank
you.
A
And
now
we're
honored
to
introduce
our
mayor
kim
janey
she's
been
a
long
time
friend
of
chinatown
before
when
she
was
a
city
councilor
and
when
she
was
often
one
of
our
allies.
As
we
went
to
city
council
for
many
different
policy
issues,
but
even
before
that,
when
for
decades
she
was
an
activist
like
many
of
us,
a
community
activist
fighting
on
the
lines
for
racial
equity
and
educational
equity,
particularly
in
in
terms
of
education,
for
limited
english
speakers
and
students
with
disabilities
and
and
those
who
had
less
access
to
education.
B
E
Thank
you
so
much.
It
is
so
good
to
be
here
this
afternoon
and
I
want
to
thank
everyone
who
has
had
a
hand
in
making
this
day
possible.
I
want
to
start
by
thanking
lydia
lowe
and
the
chinatown
community
land
trust
karen
chen
and
chinese
progressive.
E
You
guys
have
been
strong
amazing
advocates
for
this
community
and
I'm
so
grateful
to
have
your
partnership
as
we
do
this
work
in
the
city
of
boston
and
to
my
dear
friend
and
strong
advocate
suzanne
lee
you.
I
have
now
known
you
and
worked
with
you
now
for
more
than
20
years.
B
E
E
We
need
to
use
every
single
tool
in
our
tool
box,
as
we
address
the
housing
crisis
here
in
boston
and
make
sure
that
we
are
building
housing
that
meets
the
needs
of
our
residents,
and
I
couldn't
be
more
grateful
to
have
sheila
as
a
part
of
this
work.
E
I
want
to
also
recognize
the
elected
officials
that
are
here
and
I'll
start
with
the
boston
city
council.
As
was
mentioned,
I
had
the
honor
of
being
a
strong
advocate
in
that
space
working
with
counselors.
Here
I
want
to
acknowledge
counselor
ed
flynn,
who
does
such
an
amazing
job
representing
this
community.
E
B
B
E
E
Right
from
main
street,
as
well
as
from
my
office
of
neighborhood
services,
lisa's
here
she's
done
incredible
work
and
I
also
have
to
lift
up
the
residence.
It
is
the
residents
of
this
community
that
make
chinatown
so
special,
so
vibrant,
and
it
is
because
of
your
advocacy
working
with
the
different
civic
groups.
Community
groups
advocacy
groups
that
we
are
here
to
this
day
to
celebrate
this
month
monumental
occasion
with
this
land
trust
and
the
opportunity
for
affordable
home
ownership
in
chinatown.
B
B
E
In
addition
to
the
investments
and
the
lenders,
certainly
the
city
of
boston
has
had
a
hand
in
making
sure
we
are
investing
in
this
neighborhood,
and
I
want
to
thank
the
entire
team
for
that.
E
My
family
was
not
able
to
hold
on
to
their
brownstone
back
in
the
1980s
when
the
south
end
began
to
gentrify,
so
this
issue
is
especially
important
to
me.
It
is
very
it
is.
It
is
very
personal
for
me
that
we
are
able
to
come
here
to
this
day
on
this
day
to
make
sure
that
residents
have
affordable
home
ownership
opportunities,
particularly
for
working
class
families,
and
I
want
to
lift
up
and
celebrate
our
new
homeowners
who
are
with
us
today.
E
And
in
conclusion,
I
want
to
thank
everyone
again
for
helping
us
get
to
this
point.
This
is
a
very
special
day
in
our
city,
and
it
shows
that
when
we
work
together,
we
can
come
up
with
creative
solutions
in
addressing
our
housing
crisis
and
we
can
have
affordable
home
ownership
in
our
neighborhoods
to
support
working
families
and
make
sure
that
the
residents
of
boston
can
continue
to
call
our
city
home.
So,
thank
you
all
for
being
here.
I'm
truly
grateful
to
celebrate
with
you
all
and
continue.
B
A
F
Please,
that's
it
all
right,
I'm
done
no.
Thank
you
for
having
me
here
today,
madam
mayor,
thank
you
for
for
allowing
me
to
say
a
few
words
and
I
just
want
to
congratulate
the
chinatown
land
trust
cpa
for
all
the
work
that
they're
doing
you
know
initially
with
this
pilot
program,
it
is
you,
are
you
guys,
are
correct
in
saying.
I
think
a
lot
of
people
were
skeptical
about
about
the
opportunity,
the
ability
to
pull
this
through,
and
I
know
that
that
was
I
never
doubt
you
guys.
F
So
that's
it
wasn't
me,
and
I
would
never
doubt
anything
that
you
guys
when
you,
when
you
guys
put
when
you
guys,
put
your
your
mind
to
things.
You
know
it
is
usually
a
success
in
terms
of
the
work.
That's
done
and
usually
chinatown
is
the
benefit
for
it.
So
I
want
to
thank
lydia
suzanne
and
all
the
members
of
cpa
and
the
chinatown
land
trust
for
the
work
that
they're
doing
in
in
keeping
things
affordable
here
in
chinatown
and
in
throughout
the
city
of
boston
and
mayor.
F
I
want
to
thank
you
for
all
your
work
and
leadership
on
this
council
flynn
and
edwards.
Thank
you
both
for
your
commitment
to
chinatown
and
commitment
to
the
work
of
trying
to
keep
things
affordable
here
in
the
city
we
are,
you
know
we
have.
The
mayor
mentioned
a
process
for
the
city
funds.
We
also
have
a
process
for
the
state
funds,
the
the
five
billion
dollars
that
were
given
to
us
from
the
from
the
federal
government
during
the
during
the
the
biden
bill.
F
Most
recently,
we
are
having
an
open
and
transparent
process.
I
know
some
folks
here
have
already
participated
in
that
we
are
going
to
have
a
number
of
more
initiatives
and
more
meetings
on
that
coming
up
in
the
fall.
So
we
welcome
the
opportunity
to
make
sure
that
we
have
these
discussions
on
how
this
money
should
be
spent
and
affordability
and
housing
is
a
key
component
in
that
conversation
going
forward.
F
I
want
to
be
in
that
one
okay,
you
can
get
make
sure
you
get
in
that
one
I'll
make
sure
you're
there
and
to
the
new
to
the
new
residents
of
chinatown.
Welcome
to
the
neighborhood.
I
think
medan
is
that
how
you
say
it
and
edwards
or
eddie.
I
think
I
started
calling
you
already
welcome
to
the
neighborhood,
and
you
know.
F
I
think
that
these
two
are
perfect
examples
of
the
challenges
that
we
face:
people
that
want
to
stay
in
their
community
and
the
students
that
come
here
and
they
want
to
stay
here.
You
know
they
once
they
go
to
school
here.
They
want
to
stay
here,
and
I
think
that
those
are
the
two
segments
of
the
populations
that
we
need
to
be
looking
at
and
focusing
on
how
we
can
best
serve
those
those
folks-
and
this
is
a
great
example
today
of
that.
F
So
thank
you
both
for
for
for
for
being
here
today
and
welcome
to
the
neighborhood
or
you
know,
congratulations
on
home
ownership
in
the
neighborhood.
So
thank
you
again
for
having
me
here
today
and
congratulations.
G
I
want
to
say
thank
you
for
this
tremendous
partnership
with
sheila
dylan
sheila
dylan's
team
at
department
of
neighborhood
development
working
closely
with
mayor
janey,
but
also
my
colleague
on
the
boston
city
council
as
well.
Lydia
edwards
who's
been
a
real
champion
of
housing
for
immigrants
and
for
working
families
and
seniors,
so
we're
also
we're
also
proud
of
the
tremendous
work
of
aaron
mikowitz,
who
does
exceptional
work
at
the
state
house
for
for
this
community
and
what
I,
what
I
wanted
to
leave
you
with
one
brief
message
is
two
brief
messages.
G
I
I
don't
think
in
my
entire
career
in
government,
I've
met
a
more
dedicated
group
of
people
than
the
chinese
progressive
association
in
terms
of
fighting
for
what's
right
in
our
city
and
fighting
for
immigrant
rights
and
fighting
for
working
class
families
and
seniors.
So
I'm
proud
of
the
tremendous
work
they
do
every
day
in
making
sure
boston
is
boston,
is
welcoming
to
everybody
in
my
final.
My
final
point
is:
we
still
have
a
lot,
a
tough
road
ahead
of
us
during
this
pandemic,
and
it's
important
that
we
work
together.
G
B
A
And
last
but
not
least,
we'd
like
to
introduce
city,
councilor,
lydia
edwards,
to
say
a
few
words.
People
may
not
know
this,
but
she
had
a
special
role
in
making
this
project
happen
because
she
actually
introduced
us
to
and
helped
us
set
up
a
negotiation
with
this
with
the
seller.
H
Thank
you
and
good
afternoon
a
lot
of
people
don't
know
before
I
was
in
politics.
I
worked
at
legal
services
and
I
got
some
of
my
first
clients
in
2012
from
cpa
and
working
for
workers,
rights
and
working
with
this
organization
for
almost
10
years.
But
it's
true.
I
got
a
call
from
very
persuasive
women,
lydia
and
karen,
who
said
we
we
want
to
try
something
new,
we're
going
to
make
history
we're
going
to
get
a
developer
to
sell
it
back
to
the
community,
and
I
said
okay,
but
I
don't
doubt
you
either.
H
I
know
not
to
doubt
you
at
all,
and
so
I
I
called
up
the
developer
and
I
said:
let's
have
a
coffee
and
we
discussed-
and
I
can't
be
persuasive
a
little
bit
and
he
agreed
to
meet
with
cpa
and
ultimately
agreed
that
the
best
thing
to
do
was
to
give
it
back
to
the
community,
and
I
want
to
thank
you
so
much
for
making
history,
because
when
I
look
at
east
boston-
and
I
see
how
many
developers-
and
we
assume
once
it's
sold-
it's
gone
forever.
This
is
precedent
setting.
