From YouTube: Mayor on Main: Boston Main Streets Awards 2018: Day 2
Description
Mayor Walsh is taking the 2018 Main Streets Awards on the road to the neighborhoods! Visiting locally owned small businesses in West Roxbury, Hyde Park, and Mattapan, Mayor Walsh honors this year's awardees for their outstanding work and contributions to their neighborhoods.
A
Main
streets
there's
a
lot
that
makes
some
work.
It's
that
it's
the
it's
the
director,
it's
the
broad
its
the
businesses,
it's
the
community,
but
it's
also
the
volunteers.
Without
the
volunteers,
we
really
have
nothing
with
a
cultural
mainstream
program
in
a
lot
of
ways,
and
this
she
has
me
treat
of
the
volunteer
for
West.
Roxbury
is
Cameron
Bishop.
B
B
A
C
Everybody
not
Roslindale,
but
we're
really
happy
to
be
at
West
Roxbury,
Main
Street.
We
love
Danielle,
we
team
up
a
partner
with
West
Roxbury
Main
streets.
A
lot
we
cross,
promote
events
and,
like
Danielle,
says
nothing
that
we
do
can
happen
without
volunteers
and
for
businesses
and
our
to
volunteer
business
owner.
Both
are
two
of
the
most
beautiful
souls
and
all
of
Rhonda's
nails
are
so
happy
that
the
mayor
is
here
and
she
presented
with
me.
A
A
Village
squid
one
of
the
things
that
she
that
the
business
does
and
that
Guzman
does
is
incredible.
His
donate
part
of
her
portion
of
her
sales
to
the
rosin
middle
school,
and
that
really
is
about
that's
even
above
and
beyond
giving
back
to
a
community
to
want
to.
Thank
you
for
that.
Also
helping
celebrating
quickly
at
the
Valentine's
Day
market
at
the
substation
and
the
holiday
line
is
Holiday
Market.
A
A
E
A
I
just
want
to
say
one
other
thing:
councilman
O'malley
could
be
here
today
because
he
is
voting
on
the
budget
right
now,
the
city
budget
and
some
other
things
we
have
more
busy
in
the
City
Council
and
when
we
send
up
this
I
didn't
realize
the
same
day
as
the
budget
budget.
That's
all
right
and
thank
you
for
coming
out
lolly.
The
one
thing
I
do
want
to
say
is:
please
residents
when
you
go
shopping,
trying
to
do
the
best
you
can
to
shop
with
the
local
business.
A
You
know
a
lot
of
people
shop
online
today,
a
lot
of
people
all
the
malls
today
in
the
business
is
that
I
hear
the
people
that
own
these
businesses
they
put
their
life
savings
into
these
businesses.
They
create
an
opportunity
in
a
neighborhood.
If
we
didn't
have
them,
we'd
have
a
few
storefronts
and
it's
not
something
water
sensational
make
sure
you
use
our
local
business.
Thank
you
going.
F
F
F
Visiting
Hyde
Park
a
lot
recently
from
HP
150
events.
He
was
at
the
kickoff,
the
Founders
Day
kick-off
at
George
Wright.
He
was
at
the
I,
remember,
win
luncheon
and
then
recently
at
the
festival
which
he
stuck
around
for
a
little
longer
than
we
expected.
So
our
recommendation
is
to
get
an
apartment
in
highfather.
F
A
A
A
A
few
people
I
want
to
recognize
I
want
to
thank
all
the
board.
Members
obviously
feel
great
work
here
on
Main
streets
and
I'll
talk
about
that
again
in
a
minute,
but
I
want
to
give
a
shout
out
to
a
couple
of
people
that
couldn't
make
it
here
today.
One
was
Tim
McCarthy
he's
gonna,
try
and
make
it,
but
Timmy
just
we've
had
a
vote
in
the
City
Council
on
the
budget,
and
he
has
some
other
votes
going
on.
A
So
he
texted
me
right
now
to
let
let
let
him
know
that
you
couldn't
be
here
today
to
celebrate
the
business
of
the
shows
want
to
pass
that
along
and
Enslow
Scotia.
He
couldn't
be
here
as
well
today
either
and
he
called
me
this
morning.
He
doesn't
use
text.
He
called
me
this
morning
and
and
said
he
couldn't
be
here
today
and
I
said
no
problem.
I'll
take
care
of
that.
So
I
want
to
thank
those
two
elected
officials
to
do
incredible
work
here.
You
know,
as
we've
been
going
around
and
doing
this
tour.
A
This
started
two
years
ago
last
year.
Actually,
when
we
took
the
business
of
the
year
and
the
volunteer
of
the
Year
awards
out
to
the
neighborhoods
because
it
was
in
inside
strand,
theater
was
a
great
event,
but
what
was
happening?
Is
we
really
didn't
get
a
chance
to
promote
the
businesses
out
in
the
neighborhoods
and
by
being
here
today
we're
sending
a
message
to
the
rest
of
the
world?
A
What's
going
on
and
right,
maybe
people
making
people
realize
that
their
main
situation
districts
are
really
important
to
support
them,
because
you
have
the
bread
and
butter
of
a
neighborhood
having
businesses
and
strong
businesses
on
streets
on
Main
streets.
It's
so
important
for
the
future
of
our
city,
and
also
you
provide
a
service
to
people
all
the
different
businesses.
So
I
want
to
thank
the
businesses
for
your
great
support.
A
I
also
want
to
thank
the
community
because
we're
out
the
community,
the
businesses,
don't
don't
survive
and
I've
been
saying
this
for
the
last
couple
of
days.
Just
make
sure
when
you
leave
here,
and
you
talk
to
your
friends
from
the
neighborhood,
make
sure
that
they
shop
in
the
neighborhood
as
best
they
can,
because
these
businesses
I'd,
like
the
one
that
we
ran
up
we're
celebrating
today.
Most
of
my
family
owns
most
of
them
put
all
of
their
life
savings
in
the
business.
A
Most
of
them
are
raising
the
family
and
paying
a
mortgage
and
doing
all
the
things
that
these
big
conglomerate
companies
are
doing,
except
on
a
smaller
scale.
So
we're
asking
you
just
make
sure
as
we
go
around
spread
the
word
you
know
if
you
can
buy
something
in
the
local
shop
and
set
up
buying
it
online
or
going
to
a
mall,
not
because
then
you're
on
Mars
but
shopping
locally,
because
it
really
is
a
poem
because
everyone
would
work
as
their
own
facilities.
I.
A
So
the
reason
why
we
here
today
to
celebrate
the
business
of
the
year
and
the
volunteer
of
the
year
and
last
year
we
had
a
big
movement
in
City
Hall
when
we
took
on
Main
Street
program
and
moved
it
from
DND,
which
was
doing
a
fabulous
job
in
second
mcdhh
evelopment,
and
the
reason
why
we
did
that
is
really
thinking
about.
How
do
we
give
the
supports
to
businesses
when
it
came
for
small
business?
We
had
the
office
of
small
business
over
here
we
had
Main
Street's
over
here.
A
We
have
Economic
Development
Office
over
here.
We,
the
BP
da
down
here,
and
it
really
was
no
consensus
when
it
came
to
small
businesses
and
well
they
again.
How
do
we
make
sure
as
we're
attracting
new
companies
to
Boston?
How
do
we
actually
provide
the
service
of
the
small
business?
So
we
put
them
off?
A
We
consolidated
the
offices
under
John,
Bowers,
a
shop
and
John,
is
been
working
with
the
team
at
Main
streets
to
make
sure
that
we're
making
the
investments
and
making
sure
the
commitment
to
small
businesses
in
our
city
and
in
the
year
that
it's
been
there.
It's
been
working
out,
we're
trying
to
help
businesses
the
best
we
can
and
today
we're
recognizing
a
small
business
that
isn't
a
small
little
small.
But
it's
great
that's
what
I
want
to
just
talk
a
little
bit
about
Elias,
who
is
the
owner
when
he
was
19
years
old.
A
A
It's
a
lot
of
places
and
I
want
to
thank
you
for,
for
all
of
you
are
obvious,
are
what
you've
done
for
the
city
and
I
have
a
plaque
somewhere
and
I
wanted
to
say
the
city
of
Boston,
High,
Park,
Main,
Street,
2018
business,
the
keiki
and
sons
in
recognition
of
your
commitment
to
the
neighborhood
and
to
the
Main
Street
program.
It's
today
signed
by
myself
in
John,
burrows,
chief
economics
and
soul,.
E
G
You
everybody
for
coming
out.
Thank
you
to
the
mayor.
Of
course,
all
the
elected
officials
that
are
here
the
Boston
Police
I,
want
to
thank
the
mayor
for
everything
he's
done
for
the
city,
the
economic
growth
that's
gone
on
in
the
city.
We've
definitely
benefited
from
that,
and
him
championing
championing
championing
immigration.
I
don't
have
a
position
really
on
immigration.
Other
than
my
parents
are
immigrants
and
that
I
was
born
here,
while
they
were
illegally
here.
G
My
own
natural
being
of
being
born
here
by
immigrants,
been
able
to
see
the
American
dream,
be
born,
develop
and
live,
and
I've
also
been
able
to
be
part
of
a
company
that
is
having
other
people
come,
be
part
of
it
and
living
the
American
dream,
and
that
is
ultimately
the
real
American
dream.
Thank
you.
Everybody.
Thank
you
for
this
award.
A
And
before
we
move
on
to
the
volunteer
of
the
year,
what
I
just
want
to
I
was
already
mentioned,
but
I
want
to
congratulate
hi
park,
154
an
incredible
street
festival,
the
other
night
I
think
I
think
they
sold
800
tickets
when
I
was
total
walking
in
the
door
and
I
think
3,000
people
showed
up
and
it
was
absolutely
incredible.
It
was
great
to
see
the
pride
of
hi
Park
and
what
was
even
better
and
I
said
this
the
other
night.
It
was
great
to
see
all
those
people
that
moved
out
coming
back
on.
A
Would
you
know
before
I
talk
about
mark
Main
streets
when
you
think
about
a
Main,
Street's
district,
you
need
you
need
businesses,
you
need
executive
director,
you
need
a
board.
The
board
is
all
volunteers,
there's
not
a
lot
of
money
in
the
process,
and
it's
really
about
how
do
you
excite
the
community?
And
what
really
is
that
it's
the
backbone
to
all
of
it.
Aside
from
the
residents
who
shop
on
the
streets?
A
Before
I
give
the
microphone
a
Mac
I
also
want
to
give
a
shout-out
to
my
Carabas
MOX
brother,
who
I
met
many
many
years
ago,
who
also
just
you
know,
you
can
see
it
in
the
family.
Just
always
give
him
back.
He
works
for
District,
Attorney,
Dan
Conley,
but
he's
the
guy
that
you
call
if,
if
there's
a
way
to
help,
somebody
and
Michael's
generally
behind
the
scenes,
but
I
want
to
thank
Michael
too
for
his
years
of
involvement.
H
Hopefully
everyone's
heard
about
the
great
work,
the
mayor's
done
with
the
Boston
2030
vision,
which
is
really
looking
what
the
future
of
Boston
is
gonna
look
like
I
grew
up
in
High,
Park,
I,
loved
High,
Park
and
I
spent
a
lot
of
my
time
here
and
I
want
to
see
what
the
future
can
hold.
There's
a
lot
of
opportunity,
not
just
from
a
business
perspective,
but
as
our
community
changes,
we
all
changed
so
I'm,
really
looking
forward
to
the
process.
H
What
maybe
get
involved
with
High
Park
Main
streets
as
a
volunteer,
I
came
back
to
Boston
after
being
in
New,
York
and
I
work
at
Babson,
College
and
I
said.
What
better
way
can
I
give
back
is
to
really
get
involved
with
the
entrepreneurial
process
which
it's
the
entrepreneurs
like
our
small
business
owner.
That
makes
a
difference
in
our
communities,
so
the
more
that
we
can
do
to
support
our
small
businesses,
the
better
off
we'll
all
be
in
our
community.
Thank
you.
H
H
D
Coming
out
in
honoring
the
folks
that
means
so
much
to
us
here
in
the
community,
so
we
have
today
our
wonderful
mayor
Walsh,
who
is
going
to
honor
our
business
of
the
year,
our
volunteer
of
the
of
the
year.
These
individuals
have
supported
our
main
streets
from
day,
one
from
our
from
our
inception,
all
the
way
to
five
years
when.
D
A
Let
me
just
say
a
couple:
quick
thank-yous.
Thank
you.
Everyone
for
coming
out
today
we're
doing
this
tour
around
the
city
to
honor
the
businesses
on
different
Main
Street
districts
in
the
neighborhoods,
but
today
we
hear
him
out
of
hands
and
honor
the
business
and
volunteer
the,
but
also
we
announced
last
week
that
we
were
going
to
do
a
major
study
of
Mattapan,
a
planning
study
in
the
city
of
Boston
and
that's
a
big
deal
because
what's
gonna
happen
is
what
I've
been
looking
at.
All
the
streets
will
be.
A
A
Andrea
Campbell
was
asking
for
it
and
that's
why
we
here
today,
not
for
that,
but
I
want
you
to
all
know
that
you
know
we
want
to
make
sure
we
bring
businesses
more
businesses
to
Mattapan
more
businesses
to
here
to
Blue
Hill
Ave,
to
make
sure
that
people
to
come
and
shop
here
and
stay
here,
and
that's
something.
That's
really
important
to
us,
so
thank
you
to
all
the
businesses.
I
also
want
to
take
Main
streets.
A
You
see
an
investment
by
the
state
on
the
other
side
of
the
square
and
making
sure
that
the
roadway
looks
like
it
does
in
Milton,
and
that's
something
that's
really
important
to
a
colony
worked
on,
and
what
working
you
also
in
the
city
to
make
sure
that
we
keep
this
neighborhood
safe
and
that
we
continue
to
fill
businesses
here.
So
we
can.
Thank
you
to
the
volunteers.
Thank
you
to
the
Main
Street
board.
Thank
you
to
all
the
businesses
at
the
first
business.
We're
doing
is
the
business
of
the
heirs
here.
Stop
Sean.
A
A
A
And
now
we
also
so
what
makes
Main
Street
strong,
obviously
is
the
businesses,
but
it's
also
the
volunteers
and
we're
recognizing
one
of
the
special
volunteers
this
year.
But
I
want
to
thank
all
the
volunteers
who
make
this
Main
Street
so
so
important,
and
this
year's
that
support
Main
Street
volunteer.
The
is
Yusuf
Ali.
A
A
big
supporter
of
all
things:
Main
Street,
he's
volunteered
his
time
and
effort
in
every
single
community
event,
and
that's
something
that
we
need
to
have
happen
to
make
an
event
go.
Well,
you
need
the
volunteers,
the
people
who
are
dedicating
their
time
and
services.
It's
also
the
Main
streets
is
benefited
from
from
Yusuf's
marketing
skills,
creative
thinking
and
your
physical
labor.
So
thank
you
for
that.
I
appreciate
and
we
appreciate
conscious
in
the
city
of
Boston,
but
the
main
streets
appreciate
all
of
your
efforts
and
wishes
to
congratulate
you.
