From YouTube: Boston Fire Department Recruit Graduation 2018
Description
Mayor Walsh and Fire Commissioner Joseph Finn congratulate the new Boston and Weymouth Fire Department recruits, upon their graduation in Dorchester's Florian Hall.
A
B
C
Each
other
God
our
Father.
We
thank
you
for
this
day
of
celebration
for
the
60
Boston
firefighter
graduates
today
from
this
class
and
the
four
from
Weymouth.
We
thank
you
for
their
families
and
for
the
support
of
their
loved
ones,
we're
here
to
celebrate
their
rigorous
physical
and
academic
training
and
as
they
prepare
for
the
performance
of
their
duties,
we
pray
that
you
will
bless
them
and
keep
them
strong
and
thank
them
for
their
accomplishments.
C
Today,
god
we
take
a
moment
to
just
thank
you
for
the
life
of
firefighter
Justin
Dee
Poitras
from
engine
42,
who
had
a
tragic
motorcycle
accident
and
we
prayed
for
his
family
and
those
he
worked
with
in
his
wonderful
company.
We
pray
that
his
memory
will
be
etched
in
the
lives
of
those
he
shared
with.
C
For
this
brief
moment
of
a
year-and-a-half
working
in
the
department-
and
we
pray
again
specifically
for
all
those
who
are
here
today,
as
we
celebrate
a
wonderful
occasion
and
we
pray
that
you'll
bless
the
entire
department
and
keep
every
single
firefighter
from
her
harm
and
protect
them
from
her
harming
danger.
Bless
us
this
day
in
the
name
of
the
Father,
the
Son
and
the
Holy
Spirit
amen.
D
Thank
you
mark.
You
know
this
is
Mark's
first
ABM
scene,
I,
don't
wanna
have
pressure
to
him,
but
he's
doing
a
great
job
so
far,
good
job,
Commissioner,
Finn,
Ritchie,
perĂ³n's
presidency,
Paris,
Reverend,
Thomas
to
all
the
families
and
the
new
recruits.
Thank
you
for
support
and
encouragement.
I
know
that
the
families
you
must
be
proud
today,
all
you
recruits
become
a
member
of
the
Boston
Fire
Department
and
the
way
Weymouth
fire
department,
families
to
everyone
taking
the
oath.
Today.
Congratulations
you
begin
beginning
a
noble
career.
D
Boston
Fire
is
one
of
the
oldest
fire
departments
in
the
nation
and
I
can
proudly
say
as
mayor
the
city
of
Boston,
one
of
the
best
in
the
nation
as
well
you're
the
next
generation
in
a
long
line
of
firefighters
who
share
your
values,
your
people
in
our
neighborhoods,
who
don't
hesitate
to
jump
when
the
public
needs
you.
You
have
pride
in
your
city
and
pride
in
your
profession
and
I
hope
that
our
residents
are
very
grateful
to
feel
service.
D
This
class
is
ready
for
the
demands
of
this
career.
You
have
completed
what
I
could
probably
say,
one
of
the
most
rigorous
academies
in
the
United
States
of
America,
and
many
of
you
are
building
on
your
skills
developed
as
a
member
of
the
United
States
Armed
Forces
and
I'd
like
to
take
a
moment
to
thank
all
of
our
veterans
that
are
here
today,
both
in
our
crews
and
our
veterans
are
in
the
crowd.
Today.
D
As
you
put
your
heart
and
soul
into
this
work,
we're
making
sure
you
have
the
resources
that
you
need
through
fiscal
year,
2023
we're
investing
in
over
70
million
dollars
in
the
Boston
Fire
Department.
New
firehouse
is
like
engine
17
in
Dorchester
and
engine
42
in
Roxbury,
we're
bringing
on
six
new
additional
trucks,
bringing
the
total
to
39
new
trucks
over
four
year
period
in
the
City
of
Austin,
better
communication
equipment,
HVAC
and
lighting
in
our
five
houses.
This
investment
also
has
a
big
emphasis
on
firefighters,
health
and
safety.
D
We
continued
the
industrial
cleaning
of
our
fire
houses
to
mitigate
the
risks
of
cancer
and
will
continue
to
provide
the
kind
of
training
and
equipment
that
you
will
need
as
firefighters
to
stay
healthy
throughout
all
of
your
lives.
You're,
making
a
powerful
commitment
to
our
city,
Boston
fires
embody
our
spirit.
I
see
it
every
time
on
a
fire
and
I
hear
from
people
in
this
department
that
the
firefighters
have
saved
it's
about,
jumping
into
action
when
your
city
and
people
need
you.
It's
also
about
treating
people
with
dignity
and
compassion.
I
am
as
mayor.
D
The
city
of
Boston
I
am
very
proud
of
this
graduating
class,
including
the
floor
recruits
from
Weymouth.
Thank
you
very
much.
Thank
you
for
choosing
this
profession.
Thank
you
for
putting
your
name
on
the
on
the
dotted
line.
Thank
you
for
being
here
to
the
families.
I
know
that
over
the
last
several
months,
it
was
complicated
because
there
was
a
lot
of
stuff
going
on
in
the
Academy
and
I
know
you
put
up
with
a
lot
too.
D
You
should
be
proud
of
these
firefighters
right
here
to
my
right,
if
you're
proud
of
their
commitment
to
their
City
their
permanent
commitment
to
their
country.
Thank
you
very
much.
I
know
that
we're
going
to
continue
to
build
on
the
tradition
here
of
the
excellent
Boston
Fire
Department
is
known
for
thank
you
for
serving
our
city.
Our
city
will
always
have
your
back
and
congratulations
to
all
of
you.
A
E
E
You've
truly
earned
it
I
would
like
first
to
recognize
the
upper
command
staff
of
the
Boston
Fire
Department
chief
of
operations
of
field
services
throughout
Fontana,
chief
of
operations
of
Support
Services
Jackie
Walsh,
Deputy,
Commissioner,
Leyva,
Human,
Resources,
legal
affairs,
Kearney
Wang
and
Deputy
Commissioner
administration,
finance,
Kathleen
judge,
as
well
as
a
human
resource
director
and
a
Hanley
I'll,
also
like
to
recognize
the
Weymouth
Fire
Chief
Keith
stock
and
his
command
staff
chief
I
hope
we've
trained
them.
Well,
we
given
you
the
best
I
knew
his
firefighters
I
would
first
like
to
say:
congratulations.
E
It's
been
a
long
21
weeks
for
those
veterans
in
the
class.
I
would
like
to
say
thank
you
for
military
service
and
to
those
who
came
to
this
class
through
the
power.
A
bilingual
selective
certification
process.
Welcome
your
special
language.
Skills
are
surely
needed,
as
the
content
city
continues
to
grow
and
diversify
in
is
more
inclusive.
You're.
All
now
proud
members
of
the
oldest
and
finest
fire
department
in
the
nation.
So
the
newest
members
of
the
Weymouth
Fire
Department
I,
want
to
extend
my
heartfelt
congratulations
to
you
and
your
families.
E
E
The
many
weeks
of
studying
and
drilling
on
moon
island,
finally,
over
and
now
the
real
world
training
begins.
Our
world
is
a
very
different
place
than
it
was
prior
to
9/11
terrorism,
the
threat
of
terrorism
before
ever
present,
as
we
realize
back
a
marathon
Monday
in
2013
and
continue
to
witness
to
many
times
each
year,
the
training
you
received
the
fire
ground
operations,
Emergency
Medical
Response-
has
its
material
incidents.
Technical
rescue
as
well
as
type
terrorism,
are
all
leave
the
foundation.
E
E
Your
training
has
been
rigorous
and
demanding
and
you're
the
first
class
of
recruits
to
take
part
in
the
National
firefighter
cancer
cohort
study
being
conducted
by
dr.
Geoff
Burgess
at
the
University
of
Arizona.
Boston
was
lucky
enough
to
be
selected
as
one
of
the
three
cities
across
this
country
to
be
involved
in
this
multi-year
study.
This
study
will
follow
these
new
firefighters
throughout
their
careers,
the
30
years
they
were
going
to
follow
them
test
them
annually
and
be
on
top
of
any
potential
exposures
or
potential
cancer
risk
that
they
may
suffer.
E
So
you
were
truly
on
the
cutting
edge,
this
class
of
being
the
health
and
wellness
being
priority
for
all
the
parts
and
firefighters
you're,
the
fourth
class,
to
go
through
the
o2
x
human
performance
program.
The
first
full
week
of
training
is
dedicated
to
the
o2
X
program
o
to
X
is
a
holistic
approach
to
health
and
wellness.
I
think
you're
catching
a
theme
that
health
and
wellness
are
the
number
one
priorities
of
firefighters
of
this
administration.
E
E
You
can
see
they
look
a
little
thinner,
don't
they
almost
a
7%
decrease
in
the
body
fat
from
individual
every
member
improved
at
least
three
out
of
the
five
key
performance
indicators.
The
indicators
are
the
planks
pull-ups
push-ups,
bodyweight
squats
and
the
one
to
half
mile
run
keep
using
these
old
2x
concepts
about
your
career,
and
you
live
a
long
and
healthy
one.
E
We've
set
the
goal:
train
the
entire
department
in
these
techniques
and
within
three
years
we
will
have
in
this.
Within
three
years
we
will
have
trained
the
entire
department.
Currently
we
have
over
1200
members
trained
in
the
old
2x
performance
concepts,
and
hopefully
this
will
make
a
big
difference
in
their
careers
and
on
the
fire
ground
and
their
rehabilitation.
If
they
do
get
hurt,
the
secrets
are
like
Japanese,
a
firefighter
is
being
peak
physical
condition
and
mentally
resilient
throughout
your
career,
and
the
old
2x
program
is
giving
you
the
tools
to
do
that.
E
You
receive
the
best
training
and,
thanks
to
the
unwavering
support
of
Mayor
Walsh,
will
continue
move
this
job
forward.
I
talked
to
the
mayor
on
a
regular
basis.
It
could
be
about
an
overnight
fire.
I
am
just
asking
how
things
are
going
he's
genuine
concern
for
the
well-being
of
his
firefighters
is
always
present.
In
our
conversation,
he
truly
appreciates
the
hard
work
of
the
men
and
women
of
the
Boston
Fire
Department.
E
I
would
like
to
take
this
moment
to
public
thank
mayor
Walsh
for
all
the
capital
investments
he
has
made
in
the
department
in
a
very
short
period
of
time,
from
self-contained
breathing
apparatus,
state-of-the-art,
breathing
apparatus,
15
whoo
ladder
trucks
already
in
service
3
in
production,
1
new
tower
1
service
1
in
production,
as
well
as
23
new
engines,
2
new
five
houses
they'll
be
complete
in
the
next
couple
of
years.
All
of
these
would
not
be
possible
with
the
support
and
commitment
from
Mayor
Walsh.
To
that
end,
mere.
Thank
you.
E
The
new
firefighters
I
wish
you
long
healthy
and
successful
career
and
keep
in
mind
you'll
get
out
of
this
job
when
you
put
into
it
so
come
to
work
every
day
with
the
attitude
that
you're
going
to
make
a
positive
impact
in
someone's
life
who
really
needs
it,
there's
nothing
more
rewarding
and
gratifying
that
helping
someone
and
their
time
in
need
the
families
of
France.
Congratulations
to
you.
You've
witnessed
firsthand.
E
Thank
you
so
much
for
your
hard
work
on
the
training
cabinet.
The
training
academy
is
a
very
difficult
place
to
work.
They
mold
these
young
men
and
women
into
firefighters.
They
bring
them
in
raw
and
they
teach
them
the
skills
that
they
need
to
survive
on
the
fire
ground
and
so
that
there
can
be
no
greater
calling.
So
thank
you
to
the
training
division
for
all
your
hard
work.
F
Thank
you
Mark
mm-hmm,
good
morning.
Everyone
welcome
to
Florian
Hall,
mayor
Walsh,
city,
councilors,
Commission
offender,
Weymouth,
Fire,
Chief

jewel
master
Galaga,
the
BFD

staff,
the
Weymouth,
firefighters,
local
1616,
President
Jimmy,
young,
family
and
friends
and,
last
but
not
least,
the
graduates
of
the
Boston
Fire
Academy
good
morning
and
welcome
to
Florian
Hall
home
of
blossom
Huckle
718.
My
name
is
rich
Paris
and
I
am
proud
to
represent
the
men.
A
woman
of
Boston
Fire,
a
local
718.
F
Today
is
a
day
you
will
never
forget.
The
first
step
of
your
career
is
to
be
a
firefighter,
is
complete.
You
launched
a
moon
island
is
officially
over
the
PT,
long
lectures
on
the
fire,
ground
operations
up
and
overs
and,
of
course,
last
but
not
least,
the
plumps,
the
memories
that
will
stay
with
you
forever
that
this
time
has
arrived
for
Captain
Gallagher
in
his
respected
staff.
To
let
go
of
your
hands.
F
You
are
now
part
of
something
that
is
bigger
than
you,
the
firefighter
profession,
profession,
there's
a
lot
large
extended
family
and
you
are
now
a
member.
Regardless
of
what
pants
you
wear
on
your
sleeve,
so
the
family
members
of
the
graduating
class-
thank
you.
Your
love
and
support
is
why
these
recruits
are
graduating
today,
in
you
shoe.
You
too
should
be
very
proud
and
deserve
a
round
of
applause.
F
To
the
new
firefighters
celebrate
your
accomplishment,
but
remember
your
journey
is
just
beginning.
The
citizens
of
Boston
away
are
relying
on
you
to
protect
them.
With
that
mission
comes
a
great
responsibility.
You
are
not
held
to
a
higher
standard
and
that
we
facet
of
your
life
being
a
firefighter
is
a
proud
tradition.
It
is
your
obligation
to
continue
the
tradition
with
the
honor
and
the
respect
that
it
deserves.
F
Unfortunately,
part
of
that
tradition
is
that
you
must
live
with
an
unsettling
reality
and
at
any
moment
you
may
sacrifice
your
own
life
so
well.
This
may
live
throughout
your
career.
You
will
see
loss
of
civilian
lives
and
lives
of
your
brother
and
sister
firefighters.
It's
simply
the
nature
of
our
job.
F
When
you
arrive
at
your
firehouse,
introduce
yourself
volunteer
for
anything
that
is
needed
and
get
involved.
Local
718
has
a
proud
history
that
is
direct
result
of
firefighters
who
have
sat
in
that
same
seats.
What
you
are
sitting
in
today,
the
local
needs.
You
in
your
ideas,
give
something
back
to
the
Union
that
has
already
provided
you
more
than
you
know
your
safety.
Your
benefits
are
a
direct
result
of
the
union's
commitment
to
you
and
your
families,
local
1616
and
Weymouth
is
no
different.
We
are
all
in
this
together
in
closing,
cherish
this
moment.
F
Remember
what
you
have
been
taught
in
the
Boston
Fire
Academy
and
continue
to
make
an
effort
to
learn
as
much
as
you
can
about
being
a
firefighter
make
a
difference
in
the
lives
of
the
citizens
you
serve.
They
deserve
the
very
best,
be
humble,
be
proud,
but
most
of
all,
please
be
safe.
Good
luck
and
congratulations.

my
tenure.
G
At
the
training
academy
you
performed
above
expectations
in
the
skill,
training
and
live-fire
evolutions.
You
represented
your
departments
honorably
on
the
occasions
when
off-site
training
was
conducted,
you
are
ready
to
go
to
the
field
where
I
have
no
doubt.
You
will
commit
to
the
task
at
hand
which
is
service
to
the
public.
Us
want
to
protect.
Congratulations.
G
Lastly,
all
this
could
not
have
been
accomplished
without
a
dedicated
staff
to
guide
teach
and
instruct
you,
both
in
the
classroom
and
on
the
drill
ground.
They
have
set
the
example
for
you
in
many
ways,
but,
most
importantly
in
teamwork,
just
as
operations
of
the
fryer
ground
require
a
team
effort
operation
at
the
training
academy
required
team
require
a
team.
So
at
this
time,
I
would
like
to
recognize
and
thank
the
Academy
instructors
for
their
commitment,
dedication
and
hard
work
that
brought
you
here
today.

I
I
The
wall
of
us
on
that
first
day
of
drill
school
understood
that
a
Korea
and
the
fire
service
require
a
great
deal
of
commitment
I.
Don't
any
of
us
knew
just
how
deep
that
commitment
would
have
my
be?
We
first
have
to
make
a
commitment
to
ourselves.
We
needed
to
stay,
focused
and
alert
during
what
sometimes
hours
remember
any
PowerPoint
presentations
to
exercise
patience
and
attentiveness
retire
instructors,
as
they
taught
us
the
basics
you
can
do
are
effectively.
I
H
I
Service,
nothing
is
accomplished
by
an
individual.
Our
missions
are
accomplished
as
team
one
firefighter
cannot
properly
operate
an
apparatus
or
ventilate
a
building
or
effectively
extinguish
the
structure
fire.
It
takes
a
team
in
drill
school.
We
did
everything
together,
we
stand
classes
together,
we
eat
together,
shield
blocking
speaks
together
and
yes
at
times
even
shower,
and
what
was
wrong.
We're
all
off.
The
start
is
to
pay
attention
to
each
other
and
develop
a
strong
sense
of
situational
awareness
attention
to
detail.
I
I
Next,
we
need
to
make
commitment
to
the
Boston
Fire
topic,
the
iaf
M
into
local
718.
This
commitment
was
much
deeper
than
just
showing
up
for
scheduled
shifts.
We
must
commit
to
being
active
and
involved
as
much
as
possible
to
ensure
that
we
continue
to
care
and
the
benefits
are
being
part
of
such
a
free
to
power.
I
As
the
newest
generation
of
firefighters
is
on
us
who
everything
we
came
to
need
this
job,
this
department
and
this
union
better
and
stronger,
just
as
my
brothers
and
sisters
who
came
before
us
and
finally,
it
is
vitally
important
for
us
to
make
a
commitment
to
the
city
of
Boston
and
the
job
is
inherently
dangerous,
in
fact
being
stressed
many
times
by
our
master
and
instructors
at
the
death.
But
we
made
a
commitment
that
we
would
put
ourselves
in
harm's
way
to
everything.
