From YouTube: BFD District 10 Back In Service Ceremony
Description
The Boston Fire Department's District 10 is back in service! Mayor Janey joins members of the City Council, Boston Fire Commissioner Jack Dempsey and members of the District 10 community in reopening the once closed fire station in West Roxbury, along with promoting 4 Distict Cheifs, 5 Captains and 5 Lieutenants in the Boston Fire Department.
A
Good
morning
my
name
is
brian
alkins,
I'm
the
public
information
officer
for
the
boston
fire
department.
Welcome
to
today's
ceremony.
Can
I
ask
everybody
to
rise
as
we
post
the.
B
B
B
C
D
The
talmud
teaches:
are
you
ready
for
lesson
entitlement
if
you
want
to
give
it
an
aramaic?
Yes,
the
talmud
teaches
that
every
joyous
event
must
be
tempered
with
some
reality,
which
here's
a
trivia
question
for
you,
which
is
why
a
jewish
wedding
ceremonies,
which
are
joyous
a
glass,
is
always
broken.
D
D
And
it
was
heartbreaking
not
just
for
the
families,
of
course,
but
for
our
firefighters
working
12-hour
shifts
some
of
them
coming
back
to
the
relief
tent.
That
was
on
scene
with
tears
coming
down
through
the
dust
on
their
faces
suffering
not
just
under
the
physical
burden,
but
something
that
hasn't
been
recognized
since
I've
been
on
and
is
only
being
recognized
in
recent
times.
D
And
there
were
miracles
there
too,
though,
and
I'll
just
share
quickly.
We
had
the
opportunity
to
spend
some
time
in
firehouse
station
21,
first
on
the
scene,
responding
to
that
first
alarm
that
was
struck
and
the
woman
firefighter
who
drove
that
truck
it
was
a
platform,
was
telling
me
that
her
response
time
is
normally
four
minutes,
but
sometimes
it
can
go
up
to
six
and
the
captain
said
to
her
we're
always
getting
false
alarms.
This
is
a
box,
that's
in
the
garage,
so
don't
push
it,
and
so
she
didn't.
D
The
captain
said
to
me:
it
was
against
policy
and
standing
orders,
but,
and
he
figured
he
says-
I'm
either
to
get
written
up
or
I'm
going
to
get
a
medal.
D
A
E
Thanks
to
mayor
journey
and
the
relentless
effort
of
city
councilor
flaherty
over
the
past
years
and
all
the
members
of
the
city
council
who
supported
this.
We
are
here
to
restore
the
services
of
district
10,
which
covers
west
roxbury
and
parts
of
hyde
park
and
roslindale
as
of
100
hours.
Today
july
14
2021
district
10
will
officially
be
in
service
and
we
will
restore
the
geographical
lines
which
divide
our
city
into
10,
fire
districts
and
two
fire
divisions.
E
E
E
E
E
I
would
like
to
thank,
may
janney
and
council
flaherty
for
working
together
to
make
this
happen.
They
have
seen
the
need
and
have
met
it.
They
have
recognized
that
this
additional
resource
will
enhance
the
safety
of
the
residents
of
west
roxbury
and
also
the
safety
of
the
firefighters
who
work
in
this
district.
F
Hello:
everyone.
This
is
a
good
day.
I
want
to
thank
you,
commissioner,
for
all
of
your
work,
not
just
today.
I
want
to
thank
you
brian.
I
want
to
acknowledge
john,
certainly,
the
members
of
the
boston
city
council.
F
We
are
joined
by
council,
o'malley
council
president
counselor
bach,
who
is
the
chair
of
the
ways
and
means
committee
city,
councillor
asavi,
george
city,
councilor,
baker,
city,
councilor
flynn
and
city
councilor
mejia.
I
want
to
thank
the
entire
boston
city
council
for
their
work
on
the
budget
and
making
sure
that
we
had
the
resources
to
do
this,
but
particularly,
I
want
to
lift
up
council
flaherty,
who
has
been
a
champion
and
yes,
we
can
get
a
round
of
applause.
F
He
has
been
a
champion
and
a
good
partner
in
making
sure
that
we
would
be
here
today
to
rededicate
this
space.
We
know
that
our
firefighters
risk
their
lives.
They
are
brave,
they're,
courageous.
They
are
on
the
front
lines
to
keep
all
of
us
safe,
and
so,
while
we
rededicate
this
space,
it
is
important
to
point
out
that
this
makes
us
safer,
because
every
single
minute
matters
every
single
second
matters.
F
This
is
a
really
good
day
in
the
city
of
boston
and
I'm
just
grateful
that
we
are
here
and
I'm
really
proud
of
all
the
work
that
our
fire
department
does
under
the
leadership
of
our
commissioner.
So
I
want
to
thank
you,
commissioner,
and
for
those
amazing
words,
the
chaplain,
our
rabbi,
thank
you
so
much
for
being
here
and
then
last,
but
certainly
not
least,
the
families
who
also
make
sacrifices.
F
I
don't
know
how
you
do
it,
I
really
don't.
It
is
so
difficult
as
someone
who
has
seen
this
firsthand
as
a
civilian
and
also
now
as
mayor,
the
sacrifices
you
make
are
are
certainly
a
ones
that
we
all
respect,
and
we
owe
you
a
debt
of
gratitude.
So
thank
you
so
much,
and
I
am
just
grateful
that
we
are
finally
here-
and
I
want
to
thank
council
flaherty
again
for
your
partnership.
G
And
for
years,
we've
asked
them
to
do
more
with
less
to
push
them
to
always
make
sure
we
hit
these
incredible
goals
in
the
high
esteem
that
we
hold
for
each
and
every
member
of
the
department,
and
they
have
they've
exceeded
our
highest
expectations,
and
this
year
will
finally
allow
us
to
right
or
wrong
that
was
done
over
a
decade
ago,
in
the
restoration
of
district
10
to
allow
for
our
residents,
our
neighbors
in
west
roxbury.
Have
the
coverage
have
the
support
of
the
command
staff
and
the
capabilities
that
reflect
this?
G
Ever-Growing
city
is
something
that
is
long
overdue,
so
I
am
incredibly
grateful
to
each
and
every
one
of
you
to
the
mayor,
of
course,
the
commissioner
men
and
women
of
local
718
and
president
john
soares
and
his
brother
and
sisterhood,
and
to
my
colleagues
on
the
council,
and
particularly
councilor
large
michael
flaherty,
who
has
just
been
our
quarterback
on
this
particular
issue.
G
This
year
marks
my
11th
and
final
year
as
your
city
councilor,
and
in
that
time
we
have
tried
in
vain
to
get
this
district
restored,
and
I
am
so
proud
is
that
I
move
on
to
my
next
chapter.
We've
done
this
by
working
together
and
recognizing
just
the
need
of
this.
We
have
a
major
pipeline,
a
couple
blocks
away.
We
have
senior
housing
all
around
us.
We
have
a
pond
right
down
the
street.
G
We
need
to
make
sure
that
we
have
the
resources
so
that
the
men
and
women
of
boston
fire
can
do
their
job
well
and
to
continue
to
protect
us
with
the
exemplary
service
that
they
demonstrate
each
and
every
day.
This
is
a
great
day
for
the
city
of
boston
and
I'm
so
honored
to
be
with
each
and
every
one
of
you.
Thank
you
very
much.
H
Speech,
thank
you
very
much
to
the
appointees
and
to
their
families.
Congratulations
on
something
well
deserved
and
well
learned,
based
on
your
training
and
experience
and
for
the
families
that
when
you
go
to
work,
they
don't
know
whether
or
not
you're
coming
home.
They
don't
know
what
you're
going
to
be
exposed
to
and
and
you
know-
and
they
continue
to
worry
about
you,
so
they
pay
a
significant
sacrifice
to
our
city
as
well.
H
I
want
to
make
sure
that
families
are
recognized,
and
this
is
really
personal
for
me
on
a
number
of
fronts.
I
grew
up
in
a
household
with
my
dad
and
I
would
wake
up
and
he'd
be
at
the
kitchen
table
drafting
legislation
to
for
firefighters,
to
protect
firefighters
up
at
the
state
house,
and
he
wasn't
alone
at
that
kitchen
table.
H
When
I'd
come
down
with
my
brother
and
sister
to
go
to
school,
he
was
with
your
other
patron
saint
j.j
jennings,
along
with
bobby
mccarthy,
dusty
allwood
and
at
the
time,
a
young
turk
by
the
name
of
mikey
mullane,
and
they
fought
tirelessly
up
at
beacon
hill
to
make
sure
that
the
laws
were
there
to
protect
firefighters,
but
in
particularly
their
families.
In
situations
where
there
was
a
death
or
catastrophic
injury
that
led
to
permanent
injury
status
and
so
and
then
to
be
involved
in
a
little
bit
of
a
mayoral
skirmish
back
in
2009.
H
Corridor
over
here
with
the
gas
pipeline
and
a
lot
of
senior
citizens
and
senior
buildings
and
our
beloved
longwood
medical
area
that
I'm
going
to
continue
to
fight
for
as
well
and-
and
so
it's
a
great
day
to
be
here.
It
was
great
to
work
with
the
commissioner
and
iraqi
mayor
kim
janey,
my
colleague
as
well
as
the
chair
of
ways
of
means
and
my
colleagues
in
the
council
to
make
sure
that
when
I
got
back
on
the
council,
that
was
one
of
the
first
things
I
focused
on.
H
They
said
I
felt
they
owed
it
to
the
men
and
women
of
the
fire
department
and
their
families
to
to
restore
ten
and
five
and
so
we're
halfway
there.
And
if
I
could
just
indulge
the
chief
and
the
commissioner
in
obviously
and
on
our
acting
mayor
that
there's
a
second
car.
That's
out
there
that
if
we're
able
to
restore
it
with
the
current
list,
we
would
significantly
diversify
the
upper
echelon
of
our
chiefs.
H
Our
captains
and
all
our
tenants-
and
I
think
we
have
a
responsibility
to
meet
that
moment
and
that
window
is
closing,
because
those
civil
service
lists
will
be.
Will
be
dying
fairly
soon,
and
so,
if
there's
the
will
to
work
with
me
and
and
activate
janey
and
the
commissioner
and
my
colleagues
to
get
that
done,
I
would
love
to
see
that
happen
and
restore
our
city
and
give
them
the
fire
protection
that
they
need,
particularly
with
so
many
things
going
on
in
our
city
and
with
that.
I'm
just.
H
For
firefighters
and
their
families,
as
long
as
I'm
on
the
city
council
I'll
continue
to
work
with
my
colleagues
and
our
mayor
and
our
commissioner
to
make
sure
that
you
have
the
equipment
that
you
deserve
and
that
you
need
that
you
continue
to
remain
safe.
Your
health
and
well-being
is
our
major
concern.
H
We're
going
to
continue
to
make
sure
that
the
cancer
and
the
asthma
rates
that
you
guys
experience
as
a
department
continue
to
decrease
around
your
wellness
and
those
efforts
are
something
that
I've
always
stood
for
and
it's
kind
of
learned,
behavior
in
the
flaherty
household
and
how
we've
always
supported
firefighters
and
dates
back
to
my
uncle
maca,
who
was
a
captain,
my
uncle
tommy,
who
was
a
lieutenant
I'm
very
proud
of
my
cousin
tommy
who's?
The
chief
my
cousin
chris,
was
a
lieutenant.
H
My
cousin
terry
is
a
fight
fighter
as
well
as
my
cousin
stephen.
So
we
come
from
a
family
that
respects
the
work
that
you
do
understands
the
dangers
and
the
hazards
of
the
job,
and
we
want
to
make
sure
that
you
have
the
tools
and
the
resources
you
need
to
to
to
do
the
job
and
to
do
it
safely
and
to
be
able
to
go
home
to
your
families
and
to
live
a
very
productive
lives
after
retirement.
H
So
with
that,
it's
grateful
to
be
here
with
my
colleagues
so
proud
to
support
you.
Folks,
again,
congratulations
and
one
final
ask
if
we
can
get
district
r5
back.
This
obviously,
would
be
a
great
addition.
Thank
you.
I
I
just
want
to
make
one
correction
on
what
councilman
flaherty
said
about
terry
he's,
not
just
a
firefighter
he's
the
firefighter
rabbi
cork,
mayor
janie,
commissioner.
Thank
you
city
councillors,
wow.
This
is
a
great
day.
This
is
you
know
just
looking
at
the
these
men
and
women
that
are
getting
promoted
here.
Four
great
chiefs
here
this
is
this
is
impressive.
I
You
know
mark
captain
of
engine
21
his
father
is
the
district
chief
who's
here
kevin
one
of
the
one
of
the
smartest
guys
on
this
job
mark
one
of
the
handsomeness
guys
on
this
job
and
john
yeah
he's
right
there
with
him.
I
I
mean
those
those
eyes
will
get
him
nowhere,
but
what
a
great
day
this
is
a
great
day
and
have
this
car
behind
us
like
this
and
to
know
that
know
that
they're
going
to
be
here
for
for
an
incident
for
anything
that
happens
in
this
part
of
the
city
is
a
big
deal.
We
had
a.
We
had
a
fire
on
vfw.
I
They
had
to
wait
for
car
12
to
respond
without
one
of
our
own
firefighters
living
on
the
second
floor,
who
had
to
be
rescued
with
a
painter's
ladder
was,
you
know,
could
have
been
totally
different
if
that
was
on
a
friday
afternoon
or
monday
morning.
So
again,
this
is.
This
is
great.
Congratulations
to
the
family,
congratulations
to
all
who
will
get
promoted.
I
Thank
you
mayor.
Thank
you,
commissioner.
Thank
you,
councilman
flaherty,
and
we
wish
you
the
best
on
your
leaving
and
thank
you
for
all
your
work
that
you
did.
Mr
o'malley.
I
wish
you
the
best
in
all.
You
do.
Thank
you.
You
know
kenzie.
She
killed
that
ways
and
means
committee.
I
I
have
to.
I
have
to
give
her
credit
for
that.
So
thank
you.
So
much.
Let's
move
on
to
the
day.
A
So
I'm
going
to
ask
the
city
council
the
mayor
and
the
thing
is
to
stand
up
here.
We're
going
to
do
a
group
photo
in
front
of
card
12..
Let
me
continue
with.

C
A
I'm
next
for
modi
being
promoted
to
the
rank
of
district
chief,
I'm
passionate
to
him
because
he's
an
engine
21
guy
and
I
came
on.
He
came
on
as
a
firefighter
with
me
mark
miller,
being
pinned
by
his
father
district
by
chief.

So
right
before
we
close
out,
I
just
want
to
make
a
mention
to
deputy
chief
bernie
tully
after
37
years
of
our
services,
tomorrow's.
E
J
Unfortunately,
I
didn't
bring
my
speech
with
me
that
I
had
worked
out
for
later
in
the
week,
but
I
just
want
to
thank
you
know,
and
the
commissioner
said
37
years,
but
38
and
a
half
but
I've
had
a
wonderful
career
and
I
I'm
so
appreciative
all
the
firefighters,
lieutenants
captains
chiefs.
I've
worked
with
over
the
years.
J
I
I've
never
forgotten
from
once
I
came
being
a
firefighter
on
this
in
the
job
of
firefighter
of
the
boston
fire
department
is
the
greatest
job
in
the
world,
not
just
america,
so
I'm
I'm
so
thankful.
F
J
Storyteller
like
to
reminisce
and
that
type
of
stuff,
but
I'll
I'll,
cut
short,
my
reminiscing
and
just
say
that
again,
I'm
so
thankful
for
the
38
and
a
half
years
and
with
the
with
the
so
many
happy
times
were
also
sad
times.
This
past
year
we
lost
three
active
firefighters,
mike
ritchie,
ray
johnson
and
most
recently,
lieutenant
rick
sterling.
J
So
if
you
would,
please
keep
thumping
your
thoughts
and
prayers,
and
I
went
down
the
union
hall
last
week
and
just
looked
at
how
many
people
have
died
in
the
line
of
duty.
In
my
in
my
time
on
the
career
and
over,
it
was
twenty
five
thousand
killed
in
the
line
of
duty
in
my
career,
not
to
mention
all
the
ones
before
my
career.
So
again,
I
would
just
like
to
say
this
is
an
auspicious
happy
occasion,
but
we
also
have
to
remember
those
that
have
gone
before
us.
So
thank
you.
