Description
The Boston Public Improvement Commission (PIC) is the owner and regulator of the City's rights of way. The PIC plays an integral role in the City's development and permitting process. From the restaurant that wants to add a seasonal cafe on the public sidewalk, to the developer who wants to construct an underground parking garage for a new housing development, or the homeowner who wants to add an architectural feature to a house that juts into the public space, each must seek approval from the PIC to have its private venture occupy public space, either permanently or on a licensed basis.

sides

proposed
sign
is
located
on
the
northwest
corner
of
Boylston
Street
and
Washington
Street,
which
are
one-way
streets
in
each
direction.
These
are
pedestrian
oriented
signs
that
content
is
changeable,
but
not
moveable.

we've
done
over
the
last
few
years,
working
with
the
B
PDA,
is
locate
the
sign
to
partially
screen
as
much
as
we
can
existing
building
louvers,
which
are
unsightly
in
doing
so.
We've
placed
the
sign
above
an
existing
building
canopy,
so
it's
above
the
public
way,
but
in
order
to
have
air
flow
behind
the
sign,
it's
set
off
from
the
building
face
a
little
bit
to
meet
good
engineering
for
mechanical
engineering,
which
is
why
we're
here
for
a
request
for
the
license.
We've
been
through
a
BPA
approval
process
received
approval
from
them
in
March.

have
a
license
agreement
with
them
that
the
Commission
may
be
familiar
with
that
route.
That
prescribed
certain
content
also
has
enforcement
mechanisms
in
there.
One
of
the
things
we're
particularly
proud
of
is
our
public
and
community
content.
We
have
a
minimum
ten
percent
requirement
regularly
exceed
that.

also
worked
with
urban
college
who's
across
the
street,
from
us
in
the
China
trade
building
and
provided
them
content
on
the
existing
sign
in
the
W
Hotel
and
they've
been
very
pleased
with
that.
I
did
want
to
mention
that,
given
this
sign
location,
we've
done
a
robust
community
outreach
process.
We
do
have
letters
of
support
from
st.

Francis
houses
down
the
street
as
well
as
the
urban
college
and
I've,
given
those
to
miss
supporting
one
of
the
things
that
came
up
through
that
process
were
some
concerns
on
content,
given
some
of
the
recovery
opera
recovery
operations
that
are
going
on
at
st.
Francis
house,
so
we've
committed
to
no
drugs,
no
drugs,
no
alcohol,
no
marijuana,
no
tobacco
and
then
obviously
no
nudity.

license
agreement
