From YouTube: Grove Hall Promenade Groundbreaking
Description
City officials broke ground at the future Grove Hall parking lot and promenade site in Roxbury. As part of the project this parcel will be converted into a promenade, or public walkway, featuring granite benches, decorative lighting, and landscaping edge treatment including new trees, bushes, and shrubs. The completed parking lot will be ADA compliant and feature 13 additional parking spots.
A
A
So
much
consideration
has
been
put
into
how
best
to
reconstruct
this
large
parcel
of
land
that
you
see
behind
me
with
your
input.
The
final
design
work
will
serve
not
only
the
transportation
needs
of
the
entire
neighborhood,
but
also
serve
as
a
gathering
point
for
all
of
our
residents
here
to
be
a
place
making
activity
whether
you
choose
to
move
around
this
neighborhood
by
foot
by
bike
or
by
car.
This
facility
will
help
you
to
make
that
trip
both
safe
and
easy,
and
to
create
a
welcoming
environment
in
our
neighborhood.
B
A
Know
what
you
know
what
we've
heard
through
so
many
of
our
community
meetings
starting
over
two
years
ago,
through
gold
lost
in
2030,
is
that
our
residents
want
input
into
how
our
community
is
function,
functions,
how
our
community
develops
and
what
our
open
space
looks
like.
So
we
took
all
of
those
suggestions
and
the
results
of
all
of
those
community
interactions,
and
we
crafted
such
a
beautiful
design
here
for
this
parking
lot.
A
But
there
is
one
person
who
makes
everything
possible
in
this
city
and
whose
leadership
gave
us
the
direction
and
the
vision
to
make
this
happen
today,
who
started
the
effort
with
go,
Boston,
2030
and
continued
it
several
weeks
ago,
when
we
released
imagine
Boston
2030,
who
has
a
vision
for
our
community
in
our
city
and
who
works
tirelessly
to
encourage
all
of
us
to
make
it
happen.
And
that's
your
mayor,
our
mayor,
Martin,
J,
Walsh,.
C
Thank
you
for
that.
Introduction.
I
really
want
a
lot.
The
two
people
I
want
to
thank
you
that
really
made
it
happen.
Sister,
Virginia,
Morrison
behind
me,
roll
call
CDC
her
dedication
of
work
to
this
neighborhoods,
absolutely
incredible
at
gaskey
and
main
streets
in
the
board
and
all
the
abutters
for
doing
what's
here.
C
If
you
get
a
chance,
take
a
look
at
the
board.
I,
don't
say
it's
not
transformative
of
the
neighborhood,
but
it
adds
to
the
uniqueness
of
the
neighborhood
by
putting
a
park
here,
parking
lot
behind
us
opening
the
space
up,
allowing
opportunities
for
for
for
events
to
happen
right
here
in
the
space
that
was
standing
on
I
want
to
thank
all
the
people
involved
in
church
next
Julia
flames
over
here,
all
the
business
community.
C
You
know
this
will
help
the
Grove
Hall
business
community,
as
well
with
the
opportunity
for
bringing
more
people
to
grow
Hall,
to
be
able
to
shop
here
and
add
to
the
great
vibrancy
of
this
neighborhood.
This
neighborhood
really
is
a
vibrant
business
district
in
the
City
of
Austin.
You
stand
out
here
and
watch
the
people
on
the
sidewalk.
You
see
a
lot
of
people
in
the
neighborhood
depending
upon
these
shots,
but
also
having
opportunities.
So
we
want
to
continue
to
grow
there.
C
C
This
is
this
is
great
to
be
breaking
ground
here
on
the
Grove
home
in
this
whole
parking
lot,
it's
more
than
just
adding
parking
spaces.
It's
about
access
for
businesses
in
neighborhoods,
as
customers
to
all
the
shops
in
here.
It's
about
having
an
attractive,
accessible,
public
realm.
It's
about
putting
real
pedestrian
space
in
our
transportation
infrastructure.
C
The
investment
here
is
three-quarters
of
a
million
dollars,
we're
adding
LED
lighting
quality,
fencing,
accessible,
sidewalks
ramps,
vn
parking
bike,
ramps,
bike,
racks,
good
drainage
for
the
environment,
a
walkway
with
benches
in
green
space,
a
design
that's
going
to
allow
a
whole
lot
to
be
used
in
this
space
used
for
when
it's
finalized
and
complete,
which
is
important,
there's
a
reason.
We're
celebrating
a
parking
lot.
This
neighborhood
suffered
from
divestment
over
the
years
and
we
need
to
make
sure
that
we
continue
to
make
these
investments
in
the
neighborhood
and
because
the
neighborhood
deserves
those
investments.
C
We
need
to
treat
every
inch
of
this
neighborhood
as
worth,
making
sure
that
we
continue
to
invest
in
it.
That's
not
citywide
plan.
Imagine
Boston
2030
a
long
term
vision.
It's
built
from
neighborhood
investments
like
the
one
that
we're
making
here
in
this
parking
lot
in
this
neighborhood
we're
also
investing
in
Franklin
Park
we're
also
investing
in
light
Stadium
we're
also
investing
in
Boston
Latin
Academy,
we're
also
vesting
in
the
Hayes
Haynes
Early
Learning
Center,
the
Ellis
School,
the
Hernandez
school.
C
We
have
bike
lanes
coming
to
humboldt
ass
Harambee
park,
a
mile
down
Blue
Hill
Ave.
It
has
a
3.7
million
dollar
grade
going
on
in
it
now
we're
investing
in
space,
because
it's
important
for
us
to
do
that
as
a
city
in
all
of
these
different
pieces
is
a
part
of
the
bigger
puzzle.
So
I
look
forward
to
returning
here
when
the
construction
is
complete,
so
we
can
cut
the
ribbon
on
the
final
product.
C
A
Thank
you
so
much
mayor
right
now,
I'd
like
to
take
an
opportunity
to
introduce
a
member
of
the
mayor's
cabinet
who
works
tirelessly
with
our
community
and
with
all
of
the
partners
and
city
government
to
ensure
that
there's
opportunities
and
that
what
we
do
helps
to
build
those
opportunities
in
the
community
big
round
of
applause.
Now
for
Chief
John,
barrows,
chief
of
economic
ball,.
B
Good
afternoon
it's
a
pleasure
to
be
here
in
Grove
hall.
It
always
is,
but
today
to
mark
the
reconstruction
of
the
municipal
parking
lot
that
will
connect
different
areas
of
the
neighborhood
and
attract
residents
and
others
surrounding
neighborhoods
to
a
destination
for
shopping,
dining
and
enjoying
Boston's
open
space.
This
wouldn't
be
made
possible
if
it
weren't
for
the
leadership
dedication
and
you
just
heard
it
the
investments
made
by
our
mayor,
let's
give
for
our
Mayor
Mark
J
Walsh
I
also
want
to
recognize
my
colleagues
and
government
who
worked
hard
to
make
sure
this
happened.
B
But,
most
importantly,
and
the
mayor
said
it
are
the
leaders
of
this
neighborhood,
the
people
who
make
sure
that
this
neighborhood
continues
to
be
the
focus
of
the
city,
the
focus
of
residents
and
continue
to
be
a
vibrant
place
to
do
business.
So
I
want
to
call
out
some
folks
here
today
and
so
join
me
in
recognizing
Ed
Gaskin
from
the
greater
Grove
hall.
Main
Street
I
want
to
recognize
sister
Virginia
from
Gopal
NBC
I
want
to
recognize
Cheryl
strata,
make
sure
we
have
links
there
and
is
also
doing
some
other
good
work.
B
Hopefully
we
will
announce
soon.
I
want
to
thank
all
of
those
who
are
here
today
who
make
sure
that
projects
like
these
continue
to
support
our
neighborhoods
I
want
to
recognize
those
who
are
working
with
us
to
make
sure
there
are
good
jobs
in
this
neighborhood
and
that
the
people
from
this
neighborhood
are
able
to
participate
and
be
a
part
of
the
good
jobs
and
the
contracts
and
all
of
the
spending
that
comes
from
the
cities.
I
want
to
recognize,
Carolyn,
Crockett
and
her
her
work
with
folks
today
belong
be
rjp
policies
really
important
critical.
B
The
redesign
of
this
parking
lot
will
increase
parking
capacity,
introduced
new
safety,
lights,
accessibility
features
and
welcome
and
a
beautifying
landscape.
All
of
these
features
add
up
to
great
a
great
destination
for
our
residents
and
for
folks
who
are
coming
to
Grove
all
Dorchester
and
beyond.
This
means
more
people
will
be
able
to
enjoy
and
spend
more
time
in
Grove
hall,
if
not
to
have
a
picnic
or
to
go,
walk
and
explore
it
in
the
shop
eat
and
visit
the
small,
local
businesses
and
retailers
of
Grove
hall
and
throughout
the
commercial
district.
B
I
know
you've
heard
it
before,
but
our
main
streets
in
our
small
businesses
are
the
backbone
of
Boston's
economy,
our
workforce
and
our
neighborhoods
mayor
Walsh
understands
the
importance
of
small
businesses
in
Boston
and
just
last
month
we
celebrated
24
new
businesses
and
volunteers.
With
the
mayor
on
the
mayor
on
Maine
Charlie
tour
for
the
annual
Boston
main
streets
awards.
B
One
of
odd
one
of
every
dollar
spent
in
local
in
our
local
business
district
53
cents
are
returned
to
the
community
fueling
our
local
economies.
You
guys
understand
that
53
cents
of
every
dollar
we
spend
in
our
Main
streets
is
returning
to
our
local
economies
to
contribute
to
a
more
vibrant
neighborhood.
B
So
this
redesigned
parking
lot
and
promenade
allows
for
more
visitors,
more
patrons,
which
translates
into
more
jobs
and
increases
economic
development,
economic
activity
for
Grove,
Hall,
Thank,
You,
mayor
for
being
a
leader
that
continues
to
invest
and
believe
in
our
neighborhoods,
and
thank
you
for
all
of
our
neighborhoods
for
continuing
to
champion
and
be
the
voice
for
the
best
neighborhoods.
We
can
have
congratulations
all.
A
A
You
know
when
we,
when
we
started
to
conceptualize
this
project,
Danny
knew
so
came
to
me,
and
he
said
you
know
before
we
go
any
further.
He
said
you
know,
there's
we
need
to
reach
out
to
the
community.
We
need
to
design
this
with
the
community
and
he
said
there's
one
person
that
that
we
need
to
reach
out
to
now
who
has
her
pulse
on
the
community?
A
Who
is
our
partner
and
we'll
ensure
that
what
we
build
here
is
reflective
of
what
the
community
needs
what
the
community
wants,
and
we
want
to
thank
her
for
her
participation
in
this
and
I
want
to
welcome.
Now
your
partner
in
the
community,
here
sister
Virginia
from
the
growth
Hall
Neighborhood
Development
Corporation
was
a
beautiful
contingent
with
her.
D
D
The
growth
Hall
Neighborhood
Development
Corporation,
its
board
of
directors
of
one,
is
here
with
us
in
the
Sudan
Mohammed,
as
well
as
its
membership,
along
with
greater
growth,
Hall
main
streets
of
which
I
sit
on
the
board
as
well
as
long
a
long
with
Freedom,
House
and
other
organizations
that
helped
to
bring
this
into
fruition.
We
could
not
do
it
without
the
mayor
and
the
City
Council
voting
for
funding
to
get
this
work
done.
D
One
of
the
things
that
I
want
to
say
when
we
came
in
this
morning
we
heard
brother
Lo
and
the
black
Economic
Council
talking
about
lack
of
jobs
in
this
community.
Adequate
pay
work
wages
for
working
class
people.
They
are
absolutely
right
to
be
out
there
and
we're
absolutely
correct
in
holding
people
accountable,
the
city
for
things
that
need
to
be
done,
but
here
and
now
our
mayor
in
our
City
Council
are
working
to
get
things
done
in
this
community.
So
we
have
to
say
thank
you
for
our
taxpayer
taxpaying
dollars
working.
D
We
thank
the
city
officials
but,
more
importantly,
the
most
important
people
here
today
are
the
communities
because
they
are
the
ones
that
hold
organizations
like
ours,
accountable
in
the
city
accountable
for
getting
things
done.
We
have
a
beautiful
parking
lot
that
will
be
increased,
better
lighting,
better
lights,
more
parking
to
accommodate
the
businesses
we
have
a
park,
that's
been
expanded
that
will
allow
local
entertainment,
local
talent
will
help
our
residents
be
able
to
come
and
sit.
Maybe
read
a
book
read
a
paper,
let
us
log
on
to
their
laptop.
D
A
Thank
you,
sister
Virginia
I
want
to
thank
everyone
for
being
here
today.
We
have
one
more
speaker
but
I
know
that
it's
getting
close
to
the
lunch
hour
because
we're
all
getting
hungry
and
there's
a
good
reason
for
that
because
of
the
wonderful
smell,
that's
walking
from
our
next
speakers
establishment.
When
we
came
here
a
few
months
ago,
we
couldn't
help
but
notice
what
an
asset
it
is
to
have
such
a
beautiful
establishment
right,
abutting,
our
property,
and
we
couldn't
ask
for
a
better
partner
here
to
help
us
craft
and
develop
it.
E
So,
first
a
little
edit
I
want
to
say
thank
you
to
Jonathan,
who
is
the
current
occupant
of
flames.
My
tenant
and
yes,
I-
do
eat
there
as
well
so
good
afternoon.
Thank
you
as
an
outward
facing
term.
For
me,
it's
often
shared
at
celebratory
moments
like
this
I'll
begin
with
a
reflection
and
looking
inward.
My
name
is
Sheryl
Strada
I
am
the
property
owner
at
469,
Blue,
Hill
Avenue
for
years,
known
also
as
Keith
place
receipt
we
received
accolades
and
recognition
from
the
Phantom
Gourmet
for
our
breakfast
menu
for
our
lunch
menu.
E
E
It
was
an
odyssey
to
envision
a
family
restaurant
at
that
time
in
growth,
Hall
was
somewhat
of
a
dream,
but
at
the
intersection
of
the
city,
state
and
federal
dollars
that
came
into
the
project,
it
became
a
reality
and
when
you
have
contributing
entities
pooling
resources
together
on
behalf
of
growth
of
businesses,
then
that's
real
community
work
from
the
conception
that
took
us
four
years
to
open
and
I
didn't
stop
the
wooden
stop
until
my
son's
name
was
up
on
that
building.
He
is
my
inspiration
and
my
aspiration.
E
Every
day,
businesses
are
the
heartbeat
of
a
community,
and
now
it
is
time
to
give
thanks.
Mayor
Walsh
I
am
thankful
and
grateful
to
be
standing
beside
another
mayor
who
also
had
a
vision
for
this
area
and
it
started
with
Mayor
Menino.
He
began
a
lot
of
development
in
the
area
mayor,
Walsh,
I.
Look
at
this
park
is
capstone
and
continuing
to
work.
There's
always
more
to
be
done.
Always
you
can't
put
a
period
at
the
end
of
the
sentence.
E
So,
throughout
my
years
here,
I
employed
a
number
of
youth
and
we've
heard
conversation
individually
and
collectively
about
youth
employment.
I
can
share
with
you
some
of
the
success
stories.
We
have
a
firefighter
in
the
city
of
Boston
who
began
his
days
at
Keith's
place.
We
have
a
gentleman
in
the
conference's
Union
who
began
his
work,
value
and
ethic
at
Keith's
place.
We
have
a
sous
chef
in
New
York.
E
We
have
a
successful
business
person,
a
woman
in
Los
Angeles,
so
youth
development
was
a
part
of
everything
that
I'm
doing
and
hopefully
I'll
be
doing
something
in
an
announcement
coming
up
pretty
soon
I've
been
in
Chicago,
Los,
Angeles,
Atlanta
Amsterdam,
and
this
past
weekend
in
a
Gulf
with
Maine,
two
people
top
stopped
me
on
the
street
and
they
talked
about
peace
place.
So
the
business
was
a
legacy.
We
did
wonderful
work
and
we
will
continue
to
do
so
in
many
areas.
My
commitment
to
you,
mr.
E
mayor
and
it
comes
from
a
visit
to
Rwanda
the
fourth
Saturday
of
every
month
in
Rwanda.
There
is
no
business
that
is
allowed
to
open.
There
is
no
taxi
running
no
gas
station
open
until
they
go
out
we'll
clean
the
streets.
So
my
commitment
to
you,
mr.
mayor
I,
will
be
asking
the
city
of
Boston,
so
this
is
now
public
for
some
rates
and
some
roads
and
some
gloves
and
on
the
4th
Saturday
I
will
I
will
pull
together
some
business
folks,
some
residents
and
we
will
assist
in
cleaning
this
park.
That
is
my
commitment.
A
So
I'd
like
to
thank
each
and
every
one
of
you
for
allowing
us
into
your
neighborhood
to
share
this
this
groundbreaking
with
you.
Please
take
a
moment
to
see
what
this
parking
lot
and
what
this
development
will
look
like
in
just
a
few
short
months
and
in
that
those
few
short
months,
you'll
see
a
lot
of
dandy
news,
oh
and
his
crews
out
here,
and
we
want
to
invite
everyone
back
when
we
do
the
ribbon-cutting.
Thank
you.
