From YouTube: Gorilla Grove Ribbon Cutting
Description
The six gorillas of Franklin Park Zoo in Dorchester have just moved into their new home. At a cost of $9.1 million dollars, the Gorilla Grove exhibit features a waterfall, climbing vines, and over 360,000 square feet of expansive space to explore. Mayor Wu joined with Zoo New England President & CEO John Linehan, local political leaders and community members to celebrate.
A
Day
at
the
zoo
and
we're
so
happy
that
you
all
could
be
here
with
us,
this
project's
been
several
years
in
the
sort
of
planning,
designing
and
building,
and
it's
with
great.
A
A
C
A
A
If
there's
anyone
else
here
and
that
I'm
missing
say
hello
or
I
apologize
if
I've
messaged
you,
but
thanks
for
being
here,
I
also
want
to
thank
our
our
board
of
directors,
many
of
whom
are
here
today
who
are
so
committed
to
the
zoo's
mission
and
vision
for
the
future.
We
have
one
of
the
most
engaged
board
of
directors
in
the
zoo's
history,
and
this
is
what
we
have
to
show
for
that.
So,
thanks
to
the
board
of
directors,.
A
A
A
A
A
So
today's
really
a
day
to
celebrate
we're
so
excited
you
could
all
be
here.
We've
long
wanted
to
build
this
outdoor
habitat
we're
thrilled
you
could
be
here.
This
is,
as
you
can
see,
it's
a
dynamic.
It's
an
immersive
space.
There
are
not
many
guerrilla
exhibits
in
the
country
where
you
actually
come
in
and
share
space
with
the
gorillas
you
are
sort
of
in
their
home,
while
you're
in
this
building.
We're
super
excited
about
that.
You
know.
A
A
lot
of
our
goal
is
really
to
try
to
to
bring
people
in
in
into
this
immersive
experience
and
to
reach
people
through
their
hearts
and
through
their
minds
to
create
empathy
and
connections
with
with
our
guerrillas
and
with
the
in
with
the
living
world.
A
So
we
we
hope
you
guys
will
really
spend
some
time
and
enjoy
the
exhibit,
even
after
this
little
ceremony
and
I'm
sure
you'll
never
forget
this
experience.
A
Your
friends
about
it
and
tell
them
they've,
got
to
come
out
and
see
it,
and
so
once
again
we're
thrilled
beyond
words
that
you
all
are
here
today
and
that
we're
ready
to
to
show
off
this
project
and
with
that
I'm
gonna,
introduce
mayor
wu
to
say
a
few
words.
D
Thank
you
bob.
I
still
can't
over
get
go
get
over
baby
pablo.
Thank
you
to
kiki
for
coming
and
showing
off
the
new
little
one
for
all
of
us.
D
D
Oh
okay:
here
we
go
all
right.
I'm
really
honored
to
be
here
with
all
my
colleagues
and
thank
everyone.
This
is
an
incredible
show
of
support
from
across
the
commonwealth
for
a
treasure
in
our
city.
That
is
really
a
treasure
for
all
of
massachusetts.
D
D
D
B
D
B
Yeah
yeah,
thank
you.
Thank
you.
Everybody
joe,
is
doing
what
silverbacks
do,
which
is
keep
us
all
in
check
and
then
being
very
respectful
when
turning
his
back.
So
we
don't
stare
at
him
straight
in
the
eye,
which
is
good
guerrilla
etiquette.
Not
to
do
so,
but
I
I
think
he
shows
he.
He
does
like
the
attention
he's
one
of
the
most
confident
ones
and
he's
been
enjoying
being.
B
B
B
B
B
And
then
and
fall
in
love
with
gorillas
and
care
for
them.
Just
as
much
as
we
do.
Guerrillas
are
on
the
line
they're
critically
endangered
and
they
need
our
help.
B
Yeah
so
zoo
new
england
has
been
a
long
term
supporter
for
guerrilla
conservation
in
the
wild,
and
we
do
want
everybody
to
come
here
and
and
help,
and
we
appreciate
people
coming
here
and
fostering
the
connections
and
really
engaging
with
our
group
and
with
our
mission
to
connect
people
with
wildlife
and
with
wild
spaces.
So
we
appreciate
everybody
being
here
today.
D
I
just
wanted
to
highlight
a
couple
ways
in
which
the
zoo
also
ensures
that
there's
full
accessibility
for
all
of
our
communities
as
well.
The
zoo
hosts
a
summer
zoo,
teen
program
where
300
city
of
boston
teens,
have
participated,
gaining
valuable
work
experience
right
here
with
our
animals
and
with
this
incredible
organization.
D
They
are
home
to
the
turtle
conservation
head
starting
program
head
starting
program
where
285
local
students
from
five
different
schools
raise
spotted
and
blanding's
turtle.
Hatchlings
they're,
also
a
participant
in
the
card
to
culture
program
where
anyone
any
family
with
ebt
or
wic
cards
can
bring
a
family
for
just
four
dollars
a
person.
And
so
I
know
in
the
many
ways
the
zoo
is
an
important
community
member
one
important
one
major
way
that
they
contribute
and
our
good
neighbors
in
our
city
is
to
ensure
that
these
doors
are
open
to
everyone
too.
A
Thank
you
mayor
ruth.
Thank
you.
So
much
I'd
like
to
now
invite
the
the
chair
of
our
board
of
directors,
colin
van
dyke,.
C
I
will
keep
this
brief
since
everyone
has
said
what
needs
to
be
said,
and
I
think
our
friend
behind
us
will
tire
of
long
remarks.
I
just
want
to
say
it
really
is
a
special
day
here
for
zoo
new
england,
and
it
is
special
that
you're
all
here
with
us.
Over
the
last
few
years
there
has
been
a
block
by
block
stone
by
stone
effort
to
build
this
zoo
into
a
world-class
institution.
C
We
have
come
so
far
in
such
a
short
amount
of
time
and
what's
exciting
for
me,
and
I
know
the
whole
board
and
I
think
the
whole
zoo
community
today
is
that
what
we're
saying
is
there's
no
turning
back
the
sky's
the
limit
for
this
organization.
We
have
incredible
supporters,
donors,
families
and
friends.
C
You
know
legislators
and
and
city
officials.
The
baker
polito
administration
has
been
very
helpful
to
this
or
this
organization,
and
we
we
can't
wait
to
show
you
what's
next,
but
for
today
I
think
we
should
go
right
to
opening
this
gorilla
grove
and
showing
you
what
we've
got
to
show
you
today.
Thank
you.
