secondary

data.

initiatives
to
increase
graduation
rates.

Education

their
mission
to
educate
our
students,
we
have
created
the
following
vision,
and
it
is
right
here
and
I'm
going
to
read
this
to
you.
This
Vision
provides
us
with
a
vivid
picture

what
we
are
looking
for
to
achieve
with
our
students.
So
it
is
the
vision
of
the
Brentwood
School
District
to
inspire,
motivate
and
support
our
students
to
become
the
leaders
of
tomorrow.
We
will
graduate
students
who
have
a
strong
academic,
Foundation,
inclusive
of
career,
embedded,
coaching
College
experiences
and
steam
skills.

The
knowledge
and
authentic
experiences
they
acquire
will
prepare
and
motivate
them

confidence
to
fulfill
a
purposeful
vision
for
themselves
and
the
community

will
one

that

discrepancy
there

the
difference
is
only

males
when
we
get
to
the
secondary
level.

significant
impact
on
our
graduation
rate
and
we
will
see
that
when
I
look
at
the
numbers,
what
happens
here
most
of
the
students
that
we
have
at
the
secondary
level
that
are
coming
in
their
males
and
they
are
our
newcomers,
the
students
that
are
coming
from
out
of
country.

You

enrollment

2022,
then
you
have

we
project
for
2023,
as
you
can

middle
and

that's
pretty
they're
still
pretty

the
same.
However,

high
school
right
now
the
environment
is

we
are
expecting

enrollment

students.

significant
increase,

students
that
we
are
going

receive
there.
However,
when

look

total
number

students
right,
it
is
pretty
much
the
same.

only
an
inclusive

students-
it's
just
the
demographics,

So
we
have
some
students.
You
know
we
have
new
students
that
are
coming
in,
but
they
are
our
newcomers
and
the
ones
that
are
second
language,
learners,
I,
provided
you
in
the
middle
you
see
a
chart
there
and
Miss
Florida
river
is
going
to
speak
more
about
their
enrollment
of
bilingual
and
enl
students.

also
want
you

take
a
look
at
a
number
of
my
Guinea
vento
students,
and
this
is
something
that
we
have
to
celebrate.
We
many
four
years
ago
we
had
a
total
of
369
students
of
the
machine
eventu
status.
Right
now,

secondary
level
we
have
80
and
at
the
elementary
level,
only

This
is
great.
This
is

for
many
many
reasons.
The
students
have
housing
and
we're
also
quoting
the
students
properly.
So
the
students
we
are
Merlin

Ramos

They
do

a
protocol

place.

terms

who
really
is
making

that's

the
number

Middle
School
level
enrollment.
However,
the
way
that
I
did
it
was

grade
level
before
you
had
the
overall
enrollment.

the

that
we

now

the
projections,
it
will

to
have
the
students
at

Freshman
Center
if
we
switch
the
Freshman
Center
students
to
the
middle
schools
and
then
the
grade
six.

look

the
number

we
will
need
at
least
49
classrooms
just
to
divide
the
students.
This
way
we
have
50
classrooms
right
now.
In
order
to
do
something
like
this,
we
will
not
be
able
to
have
classrooms

special
education
students,
because
everybody
will
have
to
be
in
a
classroom
of

order
to
do
something
like
this,
we
will
not
have
our
classrooms
we're

classrooms.
We
will
have
to
add
additional
space
in
order
to
be
able
to
open
a

These

the
ones

have
moved

Psych
classes

sitting

progressed
onto
bilingual
classes.
We

all
definitely
be
proud
of
this,
because
it
shows
the
tremendous
growth
and
Improvement
in
in
a
quite
a
short
time.
Most
of
these
students
come
to
us
with
less
than
third
grade
levels
in
math
and
reading,
and
some
of
them
come
with
no
education
at
all.
They
work
hard
with
the
support
of
our
teachers
and
it's
a
testament
to
their
persistence,
hard
work
and
support
on
behalf
of
our
encouragement
on
behalf
of
our
teachers.

Foreign
languages
within
our
district.
This
slide

definitely
important
because
it
conveys
the
diversity
that
is
Brentwood
showing
the
languages
our
students
speak
at
home.
You
know
Spanish
Still,
Remains
the
predominant
language
year
to
year.

so
very
much
when
it
comes
to
the
other
languages
spoken
at
home,
which
is
extremely
interesting
when
we
get
students
from
different
countries,
some
of
which
we've
never
heard
before
consistently

the

are
Urdu,
pigeon,
Creole,
English
and
French
Haitian

then
we
have
languages
from
all
around
the

are
sprinkled

Portuguese

Ukrainian,
Arabic,
all
making
our
Brentwood
a
cultural
Hot
Spot.

Essentially,
you
know
it's
important
to
mention
that
we
ensure
that
our
students
receive
Equity.
You
know
an
equitable
and
accessible
education
by
utilizing
the
services
that
we
have
from
the
community.

Liaisons

support,
bilingual
hotline,
Rosetta
Stone
for
students
and
families
and
appropriate
translating
services
so
that
we
can
ensure
that
all
of
our
students
and
families
feel
welcome,
supported
and
connected
to
our
Brentwood
Community
foreign.

Last
year
we
had
2964
elf,
it
has
increased
to
3191
and
most
of
the
increases
attributed
to
the
an
increase
in
the
bilingual
student
population.
The
high
school
alone
has
seen
a
significant
increase
and
on
the
right
side,
you
see
the
commanding
monitoring
students.
Although
those
students
have
technically
exited,
we
still
offer
them
the
proper
support
so
that
they
can
succeed
in
their
gen
Ed
classes.

the

way

they
enroll
the
students
and
the
what
they're
providing
for
them.

you
look

high
school
graduates
we
had
in
June,
the
students
are
enrolled.
High
school,
we
have
74
graduates
in
this
was
in
January
2021.
Then
we
got
to
the
year
2122.
We
had
107
graduates
in
August,
then

January
we
had
52.
graduates.
Now
this
year,
June
22.
Let's
end
between
2023,
we
have
12
students
that
graduated
that
attended
in
high
school
and
then
in
August

and
in
January
we
had
30
also.
So
this
is
a
grading
great
program
that
we
have
to
be
able
to
graduate
our
students.

the
bottom,
it's
important
to
mention
also
that
this
year
in
June
2022,
we
had

high
school

they
were
dwelling
enrolled
in
Italy
in
high
school
and
also
even

have
the
adult,
ESL
and
adult

the

increase
the
enrollment
there
by

adults
that
are
enrolled
currently
enrolled

adult
education.

the

because
we
would

extend

we'll

the
adult

yoga
classes
for
next

would
like
to
propose
that

driver's
ed
I
know
that
that
has
been
a
topic
you
know
here
lately,

we

like
to
include
driver
set
and
Mr
Chang

doing
our
homework

exactly
what
we
will
need
in
order
to
to
get
this
done?

so
the
focus
of
this
presentation
is
really
to
discuss
right,
how
kind
of
programs
we
are
making
with
the
goals
that
we
presented
to
you
last
March,
and
what
is
it
that
we're
doing
right
now
to
increase
graduation
rates
and
what
we're
proposing
to
continue
to
increase
graduation
rates.

Last
year,
in
March,
we
said
that
we
were
committed
to
graduate
students,
more
students
with
the
regions
and
also
an
advanced
level
diploma,
and
we
wanted
to
see
what
we
called
a
market
value
Asset
to
this
diploma.
What
that
means
is
to
not
just
having
students
graduate
with
a
diploma
but
also
have
something
else
that
they
can
do
when
they
leave
High
School.

Many
of
our
students
are
immigrant
students
and
they
don't
have
the
funds
really
to
go
to
school
and
they
have
to
pay
for
their
own
school
or
they
don't
get
scholarships
so
having
some
kind
of
degree,
meaning
being
a
cosmetologist
or
having
some
kind
of
a
certificate
will
help
them
to
go
to
college.

Also,
so
one
of
the
certificates
that
we
are
exploring-
and
we
already
have
also
is
called
the
HVAC-
the
heating
ventilation
and
air
conditioner
I-
just
learned
that
that
actually
stands
for
that
I
always
did
I,
always
call
it
I
just
want
about
that
the
Microsoft
also
so
they
know
Microsoft.
So
we
are
exploring
all
of
this,
but
one
thing
that
I'm
very
proud
of
the
goals
that
we
have
from
last
year.

this
year
was

we

been
able
to
provide
our
students
with
college
credits,
the
enrollment
of
students
obtaining
college
credits,
because
the
board
of
education
is
paying
for
it
when
it's
higher
than
600.-
and
you
will
see
later

this

but
I
am
very
happy
and
proud
that
we
have
so
many
students
that
will
leave
with
so
many
of
the
college
credits.
Also,
we
would
like
to
continue
to
explore
the
possibilities
of
providing
students
with
internships
and
work
based
programs
as
well.

really
important
to
us
now.
This
progress
of
you
know
proposal
that
we're
talking
about
here
and
the
process
starts
early.
It
doesn't
start
when
we
are
just
in
at
the
high
school.
It
starts
in
seventh
grade
and
we
began
that
process
already
with
the
guidance
counselors
and
the
home
and
career
teachers
presenting
the
students
to
Naviance
and
our
eighth
graders
are
also
creating
what
is
called
the
individualized
graduation
plan.

we
had
that
plan-
we
presented
that
to
you,
but
then
what
how
do
we
go
from
here?
We
have
this
plan.
We
want
to
increase
graduation
rates.
How
do
we
go
about
it?
So
what
we
did
was
in
coordination
with

coordinators,
the
assistant
principle,
the
the
principles,
the
assistant
principles,
some
of
them
participated
also
and
the
cabinet
we
prepare
for
the
school,
the
secondary
level
plan
for
Student
Success,
and
you
have
a
copy
in
your
in
your
folders.

about
the
Coalition
career,
but
in

initiative

support

increase

graduation
rates.

about
how
it's
calculated
and
I
provided
some
projections
which
I'm
glad
to
say
that
I
was
correct

the
numbers
that
I
was
able
to
provide
our
graduation
rate.
Right
now
is
78
percent
of
our
students.

and
we
had
an
11
of
our
students
that
are
considered
as
dropouts
right.
We
have
that,
and
we
know
that
we

increase

many
of
our
students

the
second
language

have
to
work
and
we're

ways

keep

going

call
the

because
it

really
sad

the
students
leave

when
they
leave,
we
have
to
call
them
with
what

called
the

that
works
against
us.

have

we

us

we
add
the

know
that
our
graduation
rate
will
be
much
higher.

three
math

science
and
social

Those
are
the
assessments,
the
regions
that
they
have
to
take
the
percentage
of
students
obtaining
a
Region's
diploma
right
now
was
52
percent.
The
regions
with
Advanced
designation
is
25.

want
this
number
to
be
higher.
We
would
like

students
to
have
at
least
50
percent
of
our
students
would
should
obtain
an
advanced
designation
level
diploma.

we
are
hoping
that
our
middle
school
students
leave
their
middle
school
already,
with
at
least
six
credits.

the

They'll
celebrate

enrichment
group
will
have

biology,

the
algebra
one,
and
then
we
are
going
to
propose

all
this

one

we
only

money

provide
just
one
teacher,

RTI
teacher
at
each
building,

we
have
the
after
school
program

but
it
was
very
limited

levels

support

exciting,
because
this
program
is
a
bilingual
educational
program
which
has
native
English
language
speakers
and
Native
Spanish
language
Learners,
who
together
are
integrated
and
they
learn.
You
know
not
only
the
proficiency,
you
know,
learning
and
speaking
and
singing
in
Spanish,
but
also
practice
positive,
Multicultural
approaches
and
connections.

they
get
to
see
what
it's
like
to
learn
another
language
from
both
sides.
So
it's
exciting
and
that
Lego
again
is
there
supporting
them
and
they're
having
fun
learning,
while
speaking
Spanish,
which
is
excellent,
we
had
great
inquiries
about.

child
go
in
their
third
grade?
Fourth
grade,
we're
start
we
started
with
kindergarten
and
hopefully
we'll

students
will
then
start
the
Dual
language
program
that
we've
become.

other

going

March

and
then
the
students

the
kinder
level,
the
language
immersion
students
and
some
of
the
Kinder
students
are
going

have
an
exciting
program
that

began
in
2017
I
feel
like
everything
started
in
2017,
but
we
began
with
40
students
staying
after
for
this
club,
which
stands
for
Community
obligation,
professionalism
and
achievement,
and
now
it's
well
over
300
participated
and
these
students
bilingual
students
come
they
attend,
they
attend
workshops
and
they
hear
speakers.

just
had
the
fifth
district
legislator,
Sammy
Gonzalez,
come
and
tell
his
story
about
his
struggles
and
the
obstacles
he
faced
and
to
inspire
our
bilingual
population
that
they
too
will
go
through
struggles
and
obstacles,
but
can
accomplish
whatever
they
dream
about.
So
it's
it's
exciting
to
see
that
we've
now
started
thanks
to
a
grant
and
partnership
with
Eastern
Suffolk
BOCES
Copa
for
middle
school
students.
So,
like
Wanda
had
said
before,
you
know,
starting
at
the
middle
school
level
and
propelling
them
forwards.

So
eighth
grade
bilingual
students
now
attend
Wednesdays
and
Fridays
at
the
high
school.
So
they
see
what
the
high
school
looks
like
and
their
the
high
school
students
mentor
and
help
them
and
they
play
soccer
which
they
love.
So
it's
nice
because
outside
of
our
office,
we
get
to
see
them
playing
on
Wednesdays
and
Fridays
and
they
don't
leave
whether
it's
cold
or
dark
they're
there
playing
and
then
they
learn
they
learn
about
Community,
like
it
says,
obligation
and
being
a
professional.

Attend
Copa
Saturdays,
which
starts
this
Saturday
at
the
high
school,
so
that
they
too
can
come
from
9
to
12
and
participate
and
they'll
be
learning
literacy
through
the
Digital
Arts.
So
they're
going
to
be
learning
how
to
create
digital
stories
and
use
technology
as
part
of
their
learning
exciting.
And
then
you
know
exciting,
because
one
of
like
I
said
we
mentioned
Wanda
mentioned
New.
York
Sabe
has
invited
them
to
perform
one
of
their
skits
there.
So
that's
exciting!

proud
of
that
and
we
couldn't
do
it
without
Angel
Perez,
our
coordinator
of
Performing
and
Fine
Arts
and
Margarita's
father,
but
ultimately
Contreras,
who
really
stuck
it
out
and
supported
these
students
throughout
the
whole
process.

we're
definitely
proud
of
them
and
then

can't
not
mention
our
community
Plaza
liaison
to
step
up
and
are
there
for
anything
and
everything.

need.
The
snuggly
and
comfy
Drive
the
Christmas
tree
lighting
was
amazing
and
it
was
so
nice
to
this
year.

fortunate

to
get
a
lot
of
coats
and
jackets
so
next
year.

think
we
need
to
add
that,
because
there
was
truly
a
need
for
warm
coats
and
jackets,
so
that
was
popular,
but
we
also
were
very
proud

the
way
we
stepped
up
for
Pakistan
flood
relief
donations.

was
so
nice
to
see
not
only
students
supporting
our
community
but
communities
around
the
world
that
really
need
our
help
and
attention.

understand

trials

aware

glasses

ignore
those
things

are

on
our
agenda

attack
as
much
as
possible.

kids

suicide.
Teenage
suicide
is
real.
Our
kids
are
suffering
like
all
kids
and
they're
going
through
traumatic
times.

throwing
everything
we
can
at
it,
but

not

enough

particular
child

important
that
you
give
us
a
call,
because
we

don't
want
to
ignore
any
child,

know
that
those
things

out

schools

a

of
a
job
trying
to
teach
teachers
what
to
look
for
in
terms
of
bullying
and
harassing,

example,
those
issues.

lot

professional
development
around

schools

remember

we

largely
immigrant
many
many
times.

a
monolingual,
Spanish-speaking
parents
and
I
think
we
do
a
heck
of
a
job
trying
to
get
them
into
the
school.

they
become
comfortable
with
the
learning
atmosphere.

are
not
hands
off.

keep
them
at
a
distance

saying
that
it
ever
was
that
way

this
District.
But
it's
not

we
want

trying

get
them

departments
are
huge
in
this

know
the
special
ed
as
well
they're,
always
inviting
parents
in,
but
we
need
more
parents,
