Description

This is a step-by-step video tutorial on how to make a life-size photo frame.

Get the young ones to pick the festive theme to inspire the decorations. It's a fun way to challenge creativity and resourcefulness.

Materials and equipment:

- Foam board (from Bunnings Project Panel White Corflute, 900mm x 600mm x 3mm, $6.50). If you can't get the foam board then try cardboard - I did, and it was fine. Just a bit floppy.
- Measuring tape or ruler + a marker
- Stanley knife
- Scissors
- PVA glue (optional)
- Masking tape (one full roll)
- Hot glue gun (plus extra refills of glue cartridges)
- Brown paper from Office Works (one full roll). Gift wrapping paper will also work

*(optional) Paint + glitter + brushes + water tub + palette

Ideas for the frame decorations:

How you choose to decorate the frame depends on the theme of your celebration... Is it Christmas, New Year, Hanukkah? What kind of get together are you celebrating?

For mine I used:

- Christmas ornaments (I got mine from Big W)
- Tinsel
- Pom poms
- Stickers
- Stick on gift topping ribbons
- Gift tag gold stars
- Mini silver baubles
- Fake mistletoe on wire
- Stick on foam letters and numbers

My name is ida and I'm going to show you how to make a giant selfie photo frame.

For this project, you will need.

A

A plastic or foam board.

A

Stanley, knife scissors measuring tape, pva glue, masking tape, hot glue, gun brown paper from officeworks, and if you can't get all those materials, there's also gift wrapping or why not try cardboard.

A

How you choose to decorate your frame depends on the theme of your celebration. Is it christmas new year hanukkah? What kind of get-together are you celebrating for my frame? I used christmas ornaments.

This project is a great way to challenge your creativity and resourcefulness.

A

You can recycle old decorations or go up shopping for secondhand ones.

A

And if you need to buy any brand new ones, try to support local businesses by buying from small variety shops.

A

For mine, I use baubles a candy cane christmas decorations, tinsel pipe cleaners, pom poms, stick on ribbons gold, stuff.

And fake mistletoe and stick on foam letters and numbers.

A

Once you have all the materials you can start but grab an adult to help you with this first part, you first need to measure and mark out the square. This is going to be your frame.

We want the border of the frame to be 10 centimeters from the top 30 centimeters from the bottom and 5 centimeters on each side.

Once you've got your lines marked get an adult to cut out the inside of the frame.

Part of the video here I am trying to make the frame out of cardboard.

It took a lot more work than just using the plastic board.

A

And lots of masking tape.

A

Once you have the frame cut out, you can get rid of the middle square and start wrapping.

A

I use this brown craft paper and lots of masking tape to wrap my frame, but I think some gift wrap could look really nice too.

Another way to make your frame really special is to paint it here's the cardboard frame once my paint dried.

Okay, now it's time to decorate the frame so plug in the hot glue gun to warm it up.

A

Make sure you put some cardboard underneath it, so it doesn't shoot glue on the floor.

A

I started by wrapping the silver tinsel around the frame.

A

Next, I made a little cut through the paper into the board to stick the mistletoe through.

A

Then I attached the candy canes by their string with masking tape.

A

And you can do the same with your stick on ribbons.

A

I also have these star-shaped gift tags, so I tied them to the tinsel. If you don't have these, you can paint some cardboard and cut out the stars yourself.

Twist two of the pipe cleaners together at a time until you have enough to make a border at the bottom of the frame.

A

Then write your festive message inside the border. I use stickers to do mine.

Do this in lots of ways, maybe you want to try doing bubble writing or using a stencil? I wonder what yours will say whatever it is, make it big and bold.

If you have bubbles, then you use the hot glue gun to stick them around the border.

A

Look now I'm attaching pom-poms as my final step, but you can go on and on until you run out of glue or masking tape.
